A week or so later, our out-of-town son and family were visiting. Their vehicle "check engine" light came on. Halfway through the day I got a call that the belt and tensioner needed to be replaced. The staff went above and beyond driving out to Kearny Mesa to get the part and replace it. I dropped off the car for an oil change and brake service. I was told that it would be ready by the end of the day. I get a call from George around 4 saying that I need other work done. His first quote is for $7999.00. After much negotiating I agreed to have the bakes and oil change done. I pick up the car the next day. The brakes and oil change are done and there is a hose leaking gasoline that wasn't mentioned the day before. I drove it to a mechanic that I should have taken it to the first place. He said that he's never seen this part damaged like this in his whole. They inspected everything and it cost another $503.00 to repair the leaking hose. I took my 2014 truck in for replacement of an idler arm. They did that repair ok. But he recommended replacing hoses on my radiator and new thermostat which I approved and he did. When I got it back, it drove home ok. But next day it overheated. I took it back. He replaced the new thermostat under warranty. I got it back. It drove ok, then overheated the next day. I added a gallon of coolant. I found out that this engine is notorious for having air getting trip and difficulty of bleeding. To make a long story short, I ended up adding a total of 1.5 gallons of fluid over a several day period. The system only holds 2.5 gallons to begin with. So Hi doesn't know what they are doing. $1500 and 4 day delay. I had to bring my car back due to it being worse then when I dropped it off. Don't waste your time on this place. Orginal owner sold it and it's horrible now. I was gaslight about what they did and don't do. I came in for brakes and transmission fluid flush. The flush was straight up not done and my brakes were so bad that it was dangerous for me to be on the road. And, my brakes were making this horrible sound as soon as I started to press on the brake. I didn't have this issue before. They ended up taking the new brakes off and putting my old ones back on and telling me to get the car towed to a dealership!? They told me it was unsafe to drive. My car was road safe before and due to their lack of knowledge and professionalism, they made a problem out of nothing and handed it off to a real mechanic. STAY AWAY! read more

They have regularly held cars of mine and my family's for days and weeks without explanation until we've had to physically come into the shop and demand to take them back. No work is ever done on the cars, and they always try to sell us on repairs that are entirely unnecessary by lying about the condition of the car. UPDATE: I received my paperwork very promptly after posting this review. George apologized for the delay. -------------------------------------------- I was very optimistic dropping my car off at Hi Auto. I'd spoken to George in the past and he is very personable - based off our conversation, I felt that I could trust him to be honest, do the work, and communicate well. However once I dropped my car off to have work done on the suspension, the communication disappeared. I would go days without an update on the progress for a job which I was told would take a couple days max. I continued to have to initiate calls for updates, or else I think it might have taken weeks to get my car back. I'm writing this review now because I have yet to receive the paperwork for the work done. It has been close to a month since I picked up my car with no receipt - I paid for the work when George wasn't in the shop so I could pick up my car after he'd had it for a week, and he assured me he would send me the paperwork after the weekend. I have called and texted over and over and he has continued to tell me he would send it in a day or two. Then I wait a week with no call or email, and still, no paperwork. If you have a car that is not your daily driver and can afford to leave it in the shop for a while, George will get the work done. If you need a quick turn around with efficient communication, this shop might not be the spot you. read more

My experience has been nothing like what it used to be. The mechanics there are very good but overworked now, and the owner seems much more occupied with his personal phone calls than helping customers with their automotive needs. In my instance, the owner over promised, lied and under delivered. This was never the case under the old ownership.
