Great drink specials at the outside bar on Tuesday nights. I swear I got a vodka red bull for $5. Everyone knows those are always up charged because of the redbull so that was very interesting!! I also love the variety of seltzers they have like they have lots of flavors for Happy Thursday's, mango passionfruit, strawberry, and a raspberry dragonfruit. It's nice that they have an inside and an outside in case you need fresh air. Their lines do get pretty long for the bathroom, which makes sense because the women's only has two stalls. It comes from a bottle??? No house made mix? For Wisconsin I'm disappointed! The cheese stick, jerky and beer back of spotted cow were good, can't get that out of state. My husband and I went there on Sunday for Brunch. We were greeted by the nicest bartender. He asked us if this was our first time here and proceeded to explain to us where we order our food. I got the avocado toast with an egg and my husband got the breakfast burrito. All I can say is WOW! So much food and boy was it good! My friend and I went here for the first time last night and really enjoyed ourselves. Chill vibe, lots of people there too that were in our age range, which was nice. We had only gone out to Water st before and that crowd was more college kids, younger, so it was nice to check out Brady st. Drinks were good, didn't have the food so not sure how that is. I haven't reviewed The Garage since 2014 or so. COVID has changed this place. Gone is the old fantastic food menu and in its place is Hidden Kitchen. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the food but it's a far cry from the old Garage menu. What's super annoying right now is that they have two designated spots at the bar to order, but then they let people just walk up to any other spot and basically jump the line if they get the bartender's attention first. Also, the last two times we've been there, they've be woefully understaffed at the bar so that coupled with people line jumping and ordering from anywhere creates a huge amount of confusion and more waiting than is necessary. I still like this place, don't get me wrong, but if you're going to have procedures in place, then you should enforce them. It's not enjoyable to be queued up with 15 people and then watch one or two jump the line because they just walked up to another spot of the bar. read more

It can get quite busy on weekend evenings, but at other times it is a great spot to sit and enjoy our summers. The bartenders are so friendly during the day. They have all you can drink mimosas on Saturday mornings which is definitely one of the best deals in Milwaukee I'd you are looking to day drink. Garage has a small food window with a smaller menu, which is a great option if you aren't looking for anything fancy. Garage is connected to HiHat which is much more of a quint darker bar setting. HiHat is typically less busy and a little bit of an older crowd than Garage. Definitely a great combo if you are looking to grab a drink on Brady. read more

We stopped in with a group of four on the morning of St. Patrick's Day for brunch and we were seated promptly, although The Garage was fairly crowded. The service was pleasant, the food was good, and the prices were reasonable. I haven't had brunch at The Garage/Hi Hat before, but I would return for some solid food a close walking distance from where we live. I chose the Reuben special, as did one other person in our party, and the two others selected the Breakfast Burrito and the Hot Honey Chicken & Waffles. Our food was delivered in a timely manner and everyone said they enjoyed their meals, although the Chicken & Waffles was a smaller portion than expected. The chicken was just four small pieces, and the waffle was a fairly small waffle split into four pieces (see picture). I would say this dish could be improved upon, as $13 for one small waffle and the equivalent of four pieces of chicken the size of chicken nuggets seems excessive. The Reubens were good, although the bottom piece of bread was pretty soggy when it arrived (probably from grease from the corned beef, but I don't know how long the sandwiches may have been sitting before being served). The breakfast potatoes were decent, but it's pretty hard to cook breakfast potatoes poorly. This was my first time getting a Bloody Mary at The Garage, which I would recommend. The Bloody comes with a few nice toppings and a chaser and is only $5. The Bloody mix itself was tasty, too. We had a good experience at The Garage for brunch. There are so many brunch places in Milwaukee, so I don't know if our experience was stand-out enough to come back in the very near future, but it would be a good and convenient brunch option if you're near Brady Street. The only downside of our dining experience was the loud music which was out of place during breakfast (but maybe because it was St. Patrick's Day), which made it difficult to hear each other at the table. I would come here if I wanted to eat and drink with a large group and stay in one location hassle-free. "Is that boneless?" Me: "I don't know. It looks too big to be boneless-- it looks really good!" That TWSS moment when you're actually discussing the chicken that came with your chicken and waffles. (It, despite looking huge, was boneless.) And sooo delicious! I'd yet to find a chicken and waffle keeper in the MKE but the hi hat garage's brunch version, served with syrup, rosemary butter and sage honey (I may be getting my spice/condiment pairings reversed but you get the general idea!) is definitely a strong contender. The (boneless) chicken breast somehow remained super juicy and the crispy breading was the kind you want to tear off, dunk in syrup and eat by itself. There were also a number of other harder to find brunch menu items here (Monte cristo, shrimp & grits, even fried latkes!) that I'd love to come back and try. They also (since its brunch after all) make a number of bloody Marys, beermosas, mimosas, and other specialty cock tails. Now, regarding the interior. I know the hi hat garage was remodeled like 13 1/2 years ago (kidding, but the remodel did happen quite a while ago) and I know I live pretty much literally around the block, but I hadn't been until this weekend. IMHO, the layout is much improved. With the old layout I never knew if people were just standing around or waiting at the bar to order a drink. And either way it always seemed impossible to get in to order one myself. The tables were nice but there never seemed to be table service. Now the whole place seems more welcoming, with the big bar in the middle. There's still tables out in front, but also a multi level patio that the interior opens directly on to via big (one might even say, "garage,") doors. Everyone working there (our server and others) were very friendly and greeted us as we entered and left. The Garage was one of the first places we discovered moving here to Milwaukee. We were lucky enough to know it before it was remodeled to what it is now. Yes the new digs work great but something has been lost from the old Garage. When your food goes downhill well everything else seems to follow suit. My favorite night to come down to this place was Ramen bowl night. I believe it was Wednesday and I religiously came to the place to eat and drink then. Not only was the price right but the bowls were magnificent. As the remodel happened the kitchen switched up chefs and they wanted to keep the popular bowl night alive so they made attempts to keep it moving. Well to say failure would be an understatement. Not only did they raise the price, which I truly have no issue with, they also dropped the ball on the quality, taste, and quantity of food you get. To say I was disappointed is to say the least. Especially with Tochi leaving MKE. Where do I get a good noodle bowl now! Don't get me wrong I still love enjoying summers on the patio of the Garage but I solely come here to drink now. City Tin Review #1 My bf and I stopped in for brunch yesterday, using one of the many City Tins for 2016. We were there shortly after they opened so it was nice and quiet on the Hi Hat side. I haven't eaten here in about a year (see previous review) but with the remodel and new menu I've been wanting to stop in. I like the new menu better. Although I haven't tried more than one thing, it's nice to see more veggie options (even a tofu scrambler for the vegans) and the prices are fair. I had the Garage Mimosa and the bf had the Manmosa. My drink was pretty good although they skimped on the booze in my opinion. For eats I tried the Fried Latkes with toast and eggs and let me just say, they were pretty darn good! I've only had latkes maybe once so I don't have much to compare to. They are made with caramelized leeks, mushroom and zucchini and fried into this delicious little pouch (not flat). The scrambled eggs were done well and the toast, it's toast. It also comes with a side of this creamy dijon sauce which was good but only for those who really like mustard. I was pleased and full without even finishing my food. My bf had the Pork Enchiladas which came with 2 eggs. Here's the thing, they aren't really enchiladas so I don't understand why they named them that way. What it really is is a stack of 3 tortillas with layers of cheese and pork so more like a tostada or stacked enchilada. That would be a better fit. His was tasty as well. Our server Nick was nice, attentive and offered his recommendations. All in all, not a bad meal and I'm happy to go back and try some other things off of the menu. read more
