I was just introduced to this place last Friday and I have been there for lunch 2x this week now. #goodgrief I've seen the food truck before, but never tried them. I'm especially glad they have a "brick & mortar" location! Ambiance: Small, clean, about 15 tables and bar stools at the counter to eat as well. Decorated well, give an upscale trendy vibe. Food: is amaaaaaazing! Idk what they do to their rice, but it's light and airy and delicious, especially with the yumyum sauce. Everything is cooked well and made fresh to order. Service: Great service They're breaking my low carb diet!!!! Ughhhh

    Beef lo mein.

Hibachi Daruma is a new food truck on the scene this year and can usually be found around the usual hot spots for mobile eats in St. Paul (Mears Park, Rice Park, etc.). Their menu is fairly succinct, composed of gyoza, teriyaki, fried rice and lo mein with your choice of protein (beef, chicken or shrimp). Most dishes are accompanied by their special shrimp sauce, which is reminiscent of a zesty ranch type sauce. Portion sizes are fairly generous and I have no complaints about the shrimp fried rice or beef lo mein I have tried thus far. That said, there's not a whole lot that differentiates Daruma from it's skyway peers, other than Daruma makes everything to order and is typically far less greasy than some of their paint-by-numbers skyway competition. Overall, not a bad new addition to the food truck scene, but not really a novel dining option for worker bees downtown.

We often order business lunches from here and the meals arrive pre-packed and ready to go with plenty of yum-yum sauce! Delicious!!

From the moment we walked in, the experience was less than welcoming, primarily due to the cashier, Jessica. Her attitude was rude and dismissive right from the start. When I tried to explain that my twins were 9, turning 10 at the end of August, she questioned them about their birth years. This felt unnecessary and condescending. Upon receiving the bill, which totaled $321, I inquired about the pricing since it seemed excessively high. Jessica stated the per-person charge was $29.99, but when I calculated it, the numbers didn't add up. She mentioned taxes without disclosing that a service fee had also been added. This lack of transparency was frustrating, especially when I only discovered the service fee after swiping my card. The service continued to disappoint throughout our meal. Our server rarely checked on us, failing to offer refills or clear our plates until I had to find someone to address the situation myself. When she finally came over, she made a rude comment about crab peels on the table, which felt unwarranted. I explained that if she had been more attentive, we could have avoided that mess. We tried our best to keep the table clean under the circumstances. Regarding the food, some items appeared to be past their prime, such as old lemons that I pointed out to Jessica, who remained unhelpful and rude in her response. Overall, my experience at Sumo Buffet was incredibly disappointing. I would strongly advise against dining here--there are far better options available in the area. It's clear that customer service and food quality are not priorities for this establishment. Next time, I'll make sure to read the reviews before choosing a restaurant.

We walked past several temporary air conditioners on our way to our table (and they had all the tables in one area) with each reaching 84 degrees. We were brought to a table that had another family there and they were asked to scoot down, they ended up leaving, it was all very strange. All of the tables were together so the area where the hibachi was incredibly toasty. It was about 20 mins from our reservation when we had a server come over to ask us for our drink orders. Everyone in my group ordered a pop and a water. Not too long after another family was sat with us. Everyone ordered our food and then we waited. We got our drinks, but not once did anyone at our table receive a refill. Our server was noticeably absent, especially in this heat, we thought for sure cold drinks would be a priority to keep everyone safe and happy. The food presentation was great, the food was fantastic. I ordered the Rockys choice and got chicken fried rice as a upgrade. The steak was perfection! It all tasted so delicious! I brought most of the food home since the heat really calmed my appetite, and my husband devoured it within minutes of me getting home. He too commented on how amazing the steak was. Right after the last of our food was served, and we were really just getting into the food, our server appeared with to go boxes and asked us if we would want them, we all knew we would need boxes, but had really not had a moment to just eat as he handed us each our boxes and we awkwardly held them in our lap while we ate, and wondered where he went. Unfortunately, there is a 20% tip automatically included on the bill as they have posted on their door, so despite the bad service of the server making us feel rushed and dismissed, the tip is automatic. So needless to say we left overheated, dehydrated but not overfull (but with full to go boxes).

I wish we could see some of the distinct ingredients alone besides the tofu as it was a bit too blended for me. I liked how unique this ramen was!! The chicken karaage basket had the most addicting trio of sauces - yuzu mayo, nori ranch; and honey mustard. The yuzu mayo was so light and citrusy, and I could practically drink the nori ranch. The fries were shoestring and perfectly crispy. The issue lies in the chicken karaage - it almost felt burnt, and it was quite dry inside. The chicken age gyoza were yummy. My daughter didnt want to walk around and find food, she shy (pretty common for children) so i went up and made her a plate, she said the beef was dry i got her, so i asked our waiter for steak sauce and took a bite and told her to try it and it was better. The little boy at front door the little hostess guy, who claimed to be the ' manager ' said it cost $25 if i want to make her plate for her!! Insanity! I don't work there I'm not the "manager" you don't ever tell a customer that it's their job to do his job... Its clearly his first job and he sucks at it. Also, BBB will be notified. HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! Save your money, this is bottom of the barrel. I told the man that kicked me out for taking a bite of my daughters dry, unseasoned beef and me helping her season it. He ruined my nieces birthday and he didnt care at all. Heavy serial killer vibes!! Zero empathy!! Or common sense etc. Yuck, yuck, yuck!!
