Ordered filet & shrimp and filet & chicken both with extra fried rice. We did not get filet, not even close. Wasn't cooked medium like ordered (it was overly well done) and so hard and chewy. The filet & shrimp had 5 tiny shrimp. Vegetables were pretty good. The friend rice was awful, not fried rice at all...just some regular rice with a bit of soy sauce. For $45 for 2 meals, I expected #1 what I paid for (filet, not the cheapest cut of chewy steak they could find) and #2 an edible meal. read more

This is my go to take out for nights that I have to work late. They serve reliably great food everytime. I always get the Hibachi Chicken meal- which comes with a salad, huge portion of fried rice, lots of chicken, and some veggies. For around $7 for a ton of food it is a great deal. The Good : This is the same quality as any regular hibachi restaurant but, it's casual counter service so you can order for take-away, or just shlepp over to a table and eat it right there. The food is always delicious and fresh. The head chef is a pro, and has worked in RVA for many years, his flavors are spot-on! The prices are on target. I've tried several of the dinner combo's but my favorite is the chicken and steak, comes with rice and vegetables, salad and orange ginger dressing at around $14, this could easily feed 2 people, but I eat it over several hours. Don't judge... The Not-so-Good: There are only 2 grills, and since all the food is made fresh to order, things can get backed up if a lot of people happen to get hungry at the same time. Remember, it takes the same amount of time to prepare an order as any regular hibachi restaurant, but it's worth the wait. The table area is very basic, no frills. Similar to what you'd find in a mall food court. I don't mind, I'm here for the food. Note: Ordering ahead is highly recommended, especially if you're targeting a lunch or dinner hour. read more

I enjoyed my food from this hibachi place, but I can't say I would actually want to eat inside the store. It's not the most tidy place, but again... the food was pretty good. This is pretty sub par as far as restaurants go especially after all the hype. I ordered for pick up and was spoken to very rudely. Spent almost ten dollars for a combo box with beef teriyaki and got seven tiny pieces of meat in a sea of sauceless rice. They were out of sushi so I got four mediocre gyoza instead. I went inside and wasn't greeted and was treated very rudely when I was finally addressed. I witnessed the hostess berating the chef as well when he was actually very nice to me. The food here is delicious, it's probably my favorite food to get for takeout in Richmond. Calling ahead to order is a good idea, though if you order when you get there you can watch your food get made. I would recommend going during a weekday instead of Friday or Saturday, because they tend to get very busy and this sometimes means your food won't be as good. I've been going on Wednesdays and Thursdays for dinner, and it has always been incredibly tasty. You get a lot of rice with your food, it's probably enough for two people. You can order meat on the side and split the rice, that way everything costs about $15. Great value for the taste. Make sure to try out their filet mignon hibachi! read more

For $13.25 I got about 3 1/2 inch of steak chopped into tiny pieces and about 4 shrimps. oh and not to mention other customers got their food before us and their portions is much bigger. I love love LOVE this place! All of their food is prepped fresh and cooked to order while you watch. My favorite part are the hibachi vegetables. Can't get enough of them. Chicken, shrimp, and steak are all equally tasty, and luckily you can mix them all if you want! House made ginger dressing and yummy yummy sauces are on point. Lunch specials you can't beat. I would stick to the Hibachi (if their sushi was their best item it would be called "Sushi Express".....) it's great, basically just like going to a real Japense steakhouse but less than half the price, plus it's quick and easy. Awesome place! I'm writing this review after my first time trying it. I ordered the steak, chicken and shrimp hibachi all day special for $15 ($18 after tax). I ordered the steak medium well and it was cooked to perfection. The shrimp was tender and the chicken was delicious. The veggies were great as well with the fresh fried rice. Overall, the meal was excellent and the portion was heavy. The price was great for the amount of food. Needless to say I've found a new favorite hibachi spot, and it's not far from home! read more

I have been to this place to eat several times. At first, I was very excited to find a take out Japanese in Richmond. They have great prices for hibachi. However, I was disappointed during my last visit when I ordered the sushi express. My friends both ordered hibachi and got theirs in around 25 minutes. I waited 45 minutes for my sushi and then was very disappointed in the portion size. I ordered shrimp tempura and a california roll. I only received 4 pieces of shrimp tempura. The california roll portion size was acceptable (6 pieces). After waiting for 45 minutes and eating my meal, I was still hungry. I will probably still go there for hibachi, but I would avoid the sushi, it's not worth the wait. read more

I felt inclined to review because I work in this area and used to visit this place 1-3 times per week. The portions are huge, most people can't finish it. My complaint with this place has always been the inconsistency of the meat cooked. When you order chicken the pieces come out ranging from 1/2'' chunks to 1/12" chunks. Some pieces are nice but others are overcooked. I have finally decided to take this place out of my weekly lunch rotation because the soda machine has been out of commission for 3+ months now. If they are cutting corners on the soda machine it makes me wonder what else they are cutting corners on. Not the biggest deal in the world, but charging way $1 per soda X 50 sodas per day= 250 per week ( weekdays only ) or the $1000 per month. If an establishment is making $1,000 per month on sodas alone then they can afford to fix the soda dispenser. Sorry hibachi express, you can do better read more
