I'm a sucker for buffet. Especially when I visit a new area, I'm always thinking I'm gonna find the local gem. Well Hibachi Grill Buffet is not a gem but it's definitely a local favorite for sure. There were lots of people coming and going on a Friday around 1pm. Total price for 2 people plus tips was $45. The space is huge with even more seating in the back that they had closed off. Food is steadily being cooked from the kitchen. There is a hibachi grill where you can pick your own beef or chicken and vegetables. Sadly this wasn't too tasty and I thought the beef was cut way too thick for grilling. The sushi section was also a fail. Everything was a Frankenstein type of roll made with the same basic fake imitation crab. The fried section looked tempting but didnt actually taste good. Desserts were very basic and nothing that $5 Safeway deals can't get you. Service and people were very nice and they were great about cleaning plates and maintaining a clean environment. There were a few hot items that I liked so I mainly just stuck to those things. Check out my pics and videos for all of their offerings. My family and I stopped by Hibachi Grill & Buffet a few weeks ago. Although everyone in my group had been there before, it was my first time. It was a pretty standard Asian buffet, but I appreciated how they had some options for sushi and made-to-order hibachi. There was nothing memorable about the food, but nothing was awful. The establishment is a solid option for an Asian buffet. Hibachi Grill & Buffet is located in the shopping center across from Solano Mall on Gateway Boulevard. There is plenty of free parking for customers shared among the businesses. We came in on a weekday during dinner and they were pretty busy. Definitely seems like a popular place in the area. Service was friendly and efficient. Tables were bused frequently and staff seemed to be monitoring the buffet well to keep things clean and make sure there weren't a bunch of empty entrees. The made-to-order hibachi was my favorite thing there. Warm and right off the grill. Several seafood options and a decent variety of various dishes for different palettes. Good food and quick reloads by staff! Good flavors and they have ice cream! Broccoli beef to sushi is nice. The place is clean and they are on top of spills or counters that are dirty. It is not the best quality but it is good. Tried frog legs and crawfish here for the first time and enjoyed both. Wow an actual nice and clean buffet including the bathrooms! Staff comes around constantly to make sure tables are cleared of plates, food in the buffet is consistently filled, and tables are cleaned for next patrons. Thr crab didnt have too much meat so mostly ate shrimp (of which they have quite a few different prepared options). And ibwas delightly surprised that they even had shrimp boil! I'm always in the mood for buffet. First time here and it was on the way home from Sacramento so we stopped by for a weekday lunch. We came right before opening and that is the best time to come so you get first dibs on fresh cooked food and prepared sushi. It was good to see some new items that are not available at other buffets. But most dishes are standard like other Chinese buffets. Fountain drinks, coffee, and tea are included in the price. The place is bright, spacious and clean. The buffet area is in the middle of the room and towards the back. Booths and tables to the front and left side so you're not close to people's behinds lol. They had a lot of staff working on the floor so maybe that's how they are able to keep the place clean and tidy. Each table was constantly being cleaned while we were all eating. This is a plus. The foot itself was just ok. Most of the dishes were pretty simple and regular with limited options for lunch. I'd say the best thing was their chow mein and fried chicken. Everything else was pretty much subpar. The habachi grill section was just ok too. The guy working the station was over doing it with the oils and seasoning. I tried putting the ingredients together for fried rice, but my rice came out oily, wet, and super eggy. Aside from the main dishes, I thought their Chinese donuts were solid and matched great with the vanilla ice cream. The sushi is a big disappointment, as the taste and quality are below supermarket packaged meals. The Hibachi section allows you to customize an entree, but it's cooked on a flat top like Mongolian places. Service is attentive, as the staff was consistent in picking up finished plates in a timely manner. Ambiance is decent. It's a basic buffet with enough space to get around. There's no true grill and I don't think any entrees are actually cooked on one. This is a place if you want to stuff your face with average food. I had high expectation when I visited as a friend once told me the Hibachi in the Sacramento area was good. I understand this is not Sacramento but I thought they're one company so standard must be the same. I mean, it's not bad... it was okay... just "okay". It did not give me a reason to want to come back. I've eaten here before and it was fine, but today was a disaster. While the food itself was good, everything else was unacceptable. The dining room was overheated and filled with a strong chemical stench, which completely ruined the experience. No one should be eating while breathing in cleaning chemicals. Management either doesn't understand or doesn't care about basic comfort and safety. Temperature control and chemical use during service should be common sense. To make things worse, they allowed a pet dog in the dining room -- not a service animal. That's a serious health violation and completely inappropriate for a restaurant. I come to Hibachi Buffet every so often with my family because I love the wide selection of dishes and I think it is worth the price. Some of my favorite foods to try at this buffet include the cajun boil, sushi, cheese muscles, crab rangoons, and snow crab legs. However, I do want to address minor issues I have at this buffet. Once, when I was grabbing sushi, I was specifically choosing pieces with salmon on top since some pieces also have tuna, avocado, not enough fish, etc. The person making the sushi noticed this and dramatically rearranged the sushi pieces while I was still grabbing food! He then has the nerve to tell me that all pieces of sushi are the same. I told him that some pieces have more salmon which I prefer. Since this is a buffet, I should be allowed to pick and choose whichever and however much foods I want! Some weekends have snow crab legs and other weekends do not. I recommend calling this location to ensure they will have snow crab legs so that you are not paying the weekend/dinner price if there are no snow crab legs. Additionally, if they do have snow crab legs, the tray empties quickly! This means you have to be strategic and quick when getting it. They will probably refill it about every 30 minutes. The seafood boil is also only served on weekends. The last time I went however, there were significantly less crawfish compared to the other times I've been here. I'm not sure if it's because crawfish are in season or not. This was unfortunate as the crawfish are my favorite part of this dish! The bathrooms are a little disgusting. There is a sign above the toilet advising guests not to use the trash bin to throw their toilet paper rather than in the toilet. We came here on Father's Day for dinner around 6:30pm and they were pretty busy. First thing you need to do is to go to the cash register and pay for your meal. They will give you a receipt with a number which you will give to the host/hostess. Then you just wait to have your number to be called for you to be seated. There are some places to sit while you are waiting in the front waiting area. On Father's Day it was pretty chaotic and many people who came in (including myself) did not realize the check-in system. Fortunately people waiting around will generally point you in the right direction to pay and get your number. Once seated, we proceeded to go forage for what we wanted to eat. Drinks are self serve at the drink machine towards the back of the restaurant to the left of the hibachi grill area. To the right of the hibachi grill area is the sushi bar. At the center of the restaurant is where the buffet area is. Yo the right center of the restaurant is the bathrooms. Between the bathrooms and the sushi bar is where the ice cream freezer is. Overall ambiance is like most Asian style buffet, don't expect any frills and thrills. I did notice they wipe down the counters at the buffet stations frequently, they wipe down the tables and chairs when once people finish and leave. The staff are quick to pick up you finished plates, so you always have space on your table when you come back with your new plate of food. Now you are oriented, we can talk about the food. Overall taste of the food is just ok. They seem to use a lot of the same base sauce for many of the dishes with just some modifications to change the taste of the dish. Most of the dish taste sweet, but even the dishes that traditionally shouldn't be sweet. A lot of the dishes are overcooked, so the vegetables don't have much of crunch anymore and the overcooked food is very noticeable with the seafood such as the fish, shrimp and crab. The sushi is nothing write home about, pretty bland and the tongs used to grab the sushi is pretty dirty. I didn't get the chance to try the hibachi grill, so I have no opinion on that. Overall, the food was either bland or sweet. Unfortunately, best tasting foods are the ones they didn't cook themselves such as the seaweed salad, ice cream and some of the dessert dishes. I am not sure if the decrease in quality of food was because they were super busy from being Father's Day, but I would rate the food 2/10, but did give them 3/10 overall rating because they did try to clean the buffet stations, the speed of removing finished plates was quick, they wiped the seats down, and they large selections and variations of food.
