Dirty! Seems to be two cultures in the Asian American restaurant owncommunity. Those that are super clean and those that are just absolutely filthy. This happens to be the lazy filthy ones. The hibachi guy is walking around the buffet talking on phone. The waitress has AirPods in and doesn't respond to anything including thank you. I asked how much lunch was and was told the wrong price. The tops of the buffets are covered in dust, grime, and random food label signs that are made out of fluorescent paper like their sharpie poster board restroom sign that looks like a toddler made. The last time we ate here we said no more! But then in a weak moment we stopped today, a Saturday, around 5pm. You would think that they would be serving good food during a weekend dinner hour. First, there was hardly anyone there. Then, as I'm slightly handicapped, we asked the greeter (who seemed annoyed that we took him away from his little tv set) for a seat close to the food area, which he very grudgingly gave us (I mean, the place was almost empty! Why would he hesitate?!). But worst of all, the FOOD! Everything on the steam tables were either just slightly warm or flat out cold! The chicken on a stick? Cold! The shrimp? Lukewarm to cold! In town for the weekend from LA, and after a full day of traveling - because of the time difference - we decided we wanted to stuff our faces here. My wife actually planned to eat at the Anaheim location after a Disney trip with some girlfriends, but they ended up changing plans. So when she saw Hibachi Grill was near our lodging for the weekend, eating here sounded like a plan - especially because the price for eating back home was $20. An AYCE spot near Disneyland for a price that is far from commonplace these days? I figured the Indiana location had to be wicked cheap. This is largely the focus here. Value and volume over quality. It is quite easy to be critical about a buffet that doesn't cut it for style and execution. But for $15 AYCE, I believed the place served what it aimed to: plenty of options that might not blow you away, but it all tasted fine enough. And the selections were well tended to, refill-wise. We sat across from a family of six that got to eat out for less than $100. This place gives you plenty to eat if you don't feel like eating at, or cooking at home, and the ​simple reality is, you could be doin​g​ a​l​ot worse than Hibachi Grill. I got to try different combinations of new items every time I got up to get a plate. And I was happy enough to keep tasting things until it was time to go home. Yes, mostly everything could use a little hot sauce or salt/pepper to taste, but Hibachi was busy when we showed up. This place has steadily gone downhill over the years. It is unbelievable nasty, for one thing! It's not a good sign when you go into a place when they first open and there is cocktail sauce dripped into the hard-boiled eggs on the salad bar, for example, or there is raw shrimp mixed up with the raw chicken at the hibachi bar. First off I want to say that the food is okay and they have some what good options of food. I've come to this buffet 2 or 3 times before I decided to never go back due to the service and the waitress expected to be tipped. I get that it's hard working at a restaurant especially a buffet with the amount being paid but it's a buffet we literally get the food by ourselves so I don't know why I have to tipped the waitress. Matter fact tipping is an option, no one should be forced or pressured to tip. What happened on the day me and my 3 siblings last went there , the waiter was literally waiting for us to get done from when we start to sit down. I was going to tip the waiter in cash but she got mad at me for not tipping when I pay for the food, not too soon after she questioned me why I didn't tipped we were going to leave and she say something in her language at me. This spot has opened/closed and reopened many times due to various issues. This is my first time back and it was only to take a family member who loves the place. We were met by several friends who are also big fans. Upon entering we were greeted and led to a table. The waitress brought drinks and then we were told to go ahead to the buffet. They don't have a menu just a buffet, with lots of options. I wasn't able to eat that day (fasting for medical reasons) but everyone told me how much they loved the spring rolls, the wonton crab pastries and the noodles. Our group went back for several plates and they even have dessert with ice cream and some cookies. I'm not sure this would ever be a spot that would be a favorite for me, but the place was busy and everyone there seemed to be happy. This is the largest chinese buffet on the south side - so many options! I do like the Hibachi Grill when you can create your own options. But everything is just 'ok' or awful. I am assuming they have changed ownership since because the food choices and quality is very low now. Every time we visited in 2022 (probably 5 times) we continued to say next time will be better but finally, we have come to terms with it not being great anymore. The variety of food on the buffet is really low. They do not carry some major staples you would expect on a Chinese buffet, like egg rolls. They have not had egg rolls any time I was in there, only spring rolls. The quality of the food is really what disappoints me. EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING must sit all day because it is so hard and dry every time we eat here. If it isn't swimming in a sauce it will be rock hard when you bite into it. I picked up a sugar roll and it was so hard I would bang it on the table and it never broke. I mean even the ice cream cups are frost bit. It is so bad. So so bad. They also up their costs (like everywhere) but paying $15 dollars for this place is laughable. The staff here are very nice and the kitchen are attentive at keeping the food items filled. The food is the problem. Their salad bar is lacking and the entrees are mainly just meat and very few vegetables. The one soup (out of four or five offered) that I tried had very little flavor. Take advice from The Journey and UMI on e 86st this food tasted bland dry stringy and the hibachi grill meat was not fresh and brown the frozen shrimp still had ice on it, absolutely nothing was flavorful and bland. They serve old food and you do not get what you pay for when everything is horrible like out of the 1980's my husband literally spit food on to his plate because it was horrible he couldn't help it. Man I really wanted to like this place, but was really disappointed with the food. First impressions: They have a very large koi pond that is cool, but smells terrible as it has alot of coins in it. The smell was a pretty big appetite suppressant but once we were seated the smell was only slightly offensive. The buffet has a very large selection of poorly seasoned and some very dried out dishes. Lots of strange flavors, like chichen with only oyster sauce, tough maybe duck, and bacon wrapped dried out artificial crab. Also we tried one of each of the sushi, and although expectations are low, the quality just doesn't justify the calories. Our server was nice, but they don't have the foot traffic to rotate dishes out to keep the food fresh. I can't recommend this buffet, as for the price it's worth driving elsewhere. read more

Constant refilling of drinks, attempts to clear plates that were still being eaten, dropping bill so fast the receipt was still printing by the time we were asked to pay. We attempted the seafood options all which were inedible. Muscles were filled with dirt sand and seaweed. Crawfish and shrimp were absolutely atrocious. My children took a few bites of multiple things and stated the food tasted weird. Don't even get me started on the bathroom. Not only a safety hazard with exposed cleaning chemicals and wired hand drys next to the sink. 3 out of the 5 stalls available one covered in sh*t, the other had a literal trash can inside the bowl, the 3rd had water pooling at the base of the stool. I have never written a review, but others should be warned. The restaurant smelled like sewage (unfortunately, we did not smell it in the entryway). The rolls were rock hard on the bottom. The pizza was not cut. The steak for the hibachi was brown. The food (noodles, meat...) was dried out and luke warm directly out of the warmers on the buffet. The sushi was also dried out and warm. There was not an itemized bill. It cost $77 (with tip) for our family of 4 (2 adults, 13 year old, and 9 year old). We hardly ate anything.
