Stop by here on the way back from a golf trip and wanted to try the iconic high boy cheeseburgers. I double cheeseburger was good and hot but pretty pricey for just a double cheeseburger. I can mark it off my list that I tried it, but not eager to come back.

This is my first time at this particular location. I usually go to the HiBoy over by Arrowhead. I will probably keep that tradition. This place is clean and smells great! The tots here were a little soggy. But the self-serve catsup was very good. I got a Double HiBoy. It seemed dry, like the meat had been on the grill too long. I went and got some mustard and added it between the patties. That seem to make it a little better. As expected, the bun was warm and delicious and the vegetables were fresh and crispy, but something was off. As a bonus, found a great car wash next door that's only 50 cents per minute! Butch's. Wow!

The food is absolutely disgusting. Its so expensive for terrible food. Got the burgers, fries, dried pickles, stuffed spuds and onion rings and all of it was so bad, paid $60+ and not one thing was even edible I had to throw everything away, which is really tough waisting that much money right now and it be a waste. i will never be coming back.

Meh. That pretty much sums up my experience. I happened to be in the area and I've heard people say this is their favorite burger place so I decided to give it a try. The burger itself was average at best. The meat was pretty bland and dry. The overall burger was dry. The lettuce that was on it was soggy and old so I removed it. Maybe that's where the sauce went. The tots were good. It's hard to mess up tots. My favorite thing I got was the cherry mash cyclone. Now that I would return for. I'd skip everything else.

The carhops came right up to our window to take our order and were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The menu is surprisingly large for such a small place. We ordered the Wiz Burger, chicken nuggets, tots, onion rings, fries, and Brown Cow root beer floats. Prices were very reasonable, which was a nice bonus. One thing I really loved was the option to order their homemade root beer in an ice-cold glass mug (which you return when you're done). It definitely adds to the nostalgic experience. Our favorite items were the crispy tater tots, the chicken nuggets (which were more like mini chicken strips), and the root beer floats. The Wiz Burger was definitely unique, but it wasn't a crowd-pleaser in our car. It's made with loose meat mixed with onions, pickles, and cheese, which may appeal to some but wasn't our favorite. I'd definitely go back to try the chicken sandwich, pork tenderloin, or spicy buffalo dog. The food itself might be closer to 3 stars, but the unique throwback nostalgia of the carhop era bumps the overall experience into 4-star territory. It's a must-try-at-least-once kind of place.

My review is, for me, the burger, its not that good, its just not for me. My expectation was, they had the "IT FACTOR" for the burgers. Something you would have expected from the day, 60/70 years ago. The old larger bun, not biscuit size, grilled burger meat, mine seemed losely patted and steamed and more than pickle, onion and mustard. Maybe thats just the way its always been and others love it. Im glad I went but it is a one stop for me. I wish you another 70 years of continued service and a great icon of Independence, Mo.

The food has always been fresh and well made. The employees have most always been friendly even when overwhelmed with orders and work swiftly to get orders out. However, that friendly atmosphere changed today with Ms. Leslie who is apparently a "manager". We ordered two #4 bowls- and immediately received a "go to hell" look from Leslie like she was annoyed. In the midst of ordering, everybody's phones went off for an amber alert. Leslie reached into her pocket with gloved hands, messed with her phone, stuck her phone back in her pocket and then reached into the lettuce with the same gloved hand and placed lettuce in our bowls. My husband then kindly advised both bowls would be "mikes way" but with no onion or tomato on one. Leslie looked up and said "I just do the meat! You can tell them when they make it!" My husband immediately left the store as to not cause a scene for how rude she was. A young man who I think was new (as I'd never seen him before), dressed our bowls. He first started to chop the meat. Leslie had come from behind the counter standing near me, and saw him chopping the meat first. She muttered something to him, then went behind the counter and very sternly told him "the meat goes on last!". I very quickly spoke up, looked at her and said there was no issue and it was fine. This young man was kind and professional throughout the entire process. (Our bowls were perfect!) As for the meat going on last? Since when?? I order a bowl EVERY time I'm in and EVERY time the meat goes on first! If the meat is "supposed" to go on last, I will always make sure the meat goes on first. As the same young man rang up my food to pay, I reassured him everything was fine and explained that EVERY time they put the meat on first so I don't know what that woman is talking about! I asked for this woman's name as the entire staff seemed on edge with her. They were very hesitant to give her name. I somewhat demanded her name, asking for somebody to give me her name and another young man asked whose name I wanted- he said it was Leslie. He asked if everything was okay? I thanked him and exited the store. Leslie was extremely rude and unprofessional the entire time we were there. If this is your manager- please reevaluate who you've hired. The way she snapped at my husband causing him to walk out is unacceptable. The way she spoke to the employee was unprofessional. There's a right way and a wrong way to teach- and this wasn't it. I would hate to see how she speaks to employees when there are no customers. And lastly, the lack of food safety from a "manager" is appalling and extremely concerning. I should have stopped her and requested ALL the lettuce be tossed for the safety of all customers. Shame on me for not speaking up. I haven't worked in food services for over 20+ years, and that's just the basics- she should absolutely know better. I'm not saying we won't return, but I sure hope Leslie has a better attitude if we cross paths again, and I recommend that she either take or renew her food handlers permit promptly because she seems to have forgotten the very basics.

So, to say we were disappointed is an understatement. Both of these were mobile orders made from my jm account. The 1st visit: we walked into the store and were completely ignored. And no, they werent busy. There were only 3 people in the entire store and one was with me and the other picking up an order. We walked in before the guy came in by about 2 minutes, still zero acknowledgment. They spoke to him immediately. Then a minute after they asked him what he needed they finally said hello and asked what we needed. It was odd as f**k. Even the other guy thought it was weird when we began speaking. He even asked "werent they here before me"... The food was decent this visit and its the only reason i gave in when my lady mentioned she wanted a sandwich from somewhere. The 2nd visit: the worst jersey mikes sub ive ever had anywhere in America. That includes california, missouri, Tennessee etc. it was made so poorly I dont even want to describe it. Thats how pissed i am about wasting my money here. We wont be back. Well drive 20 minutes out of our way to get good service and a great sub. Look at my other JM review. Gave them a 4/5. This place 1/5. Love JM, hate this place.

We met at Café Cà Phê's four-year anniversary…read more I came around the corner and there they were. We locked eyes. I couldn't believe they were staring right at me. For a brief moment, I thought I heard music. There was a DJ, actually. But that's not how I remember it. I remember the bus. Yellow and black, impossible not to notice. Anime artwork stretched across the side. Go Chew Burger. At the window, someone was waiting who was every bit as inviting as the aroma coming out of that heavenly little bus. I started looking over the menu, and there, winking at me, was the GOCHEW Burger. They mentioned the double patty. I hesitated. "We won't tell anybody." Two patties it was. They also talked me through the kimchi: fresh or charred. They gave me enough information to make me feel like I was making all the decisions. Double patty. Charred kimchi. Loaded fries. I was all in. While I waited, I did what anyone with an infatuation does: research. I learned about Joohae "Chewy" Yoon and what she's trying to do with GOCHEW--take Korean flavors and put them into foods people already know. Burgers. Fries. Familiar food carrying something new. Then the buzzer went off. Time for our first date. No chairs. No tables. Things were getting a little awkward, so we went back to the car. The fries had lost their crispness to the sauces and steam, but I didn't care. The Korean BBQ sauce was sweet and savory, the gochujang brought mild heat, the creamy lime sauce cut through it all, and the bright green chives pulled everything together. Incredible. But the burger? Perfectly crisped edges. Juicy, hot beef. Melted cheese. Charred kimchi bringing sweetness and acidity. Three sauces that somehow never fought for attention. And the bun had a serious responsibility. Two patties. Cheese. Kimchi. Three sauces. Everything depended on it. Spider-Man protects New York and everyone who depends on him. This bun had the same problem. With great power comes great responsibility. And it held. Mostly. The attraction was still there. The infatuation was still there. But they had become something else entirely. Love. This wasn't just a good burger. This is the best smash burger I've had in Kansas City. Chewy set out to make people fall in love with Korean food by putting those flavors into things they already know. I think she got me.
