But everything else was a solid 3. Nothing wrong with it at all... But, I was underwhelmed based on my previous experiences. When we checked in, the host was fine. The room was fine. The bathroom did leave some things to be desired. There was not a good place to put your toiletries. We also had to climb into a very deep bathtub to get to the shower... If you are clumsy, like me, you may walk away with a couple of bruises. The house itself was very pretty, and was decorated in a manner appropriate for the property. I would've liked to seen some warm blanket to sit out on the patio with, board games, or puzzles to pass the time. There was only one sofa, and it was not in a cozy little nook where you would want to hang out. The food was fine. The menu is heavy on carbs and sweet breakfast treats. They were executed well enough. But there was not any particular breakfast that knocked my socks off. Again it was fine. The location was very convenient to downtown Asheville. It would be a two minute drive or a 10 minute walk to downtown Asheville. This bed-and-breakfast did not appear to be owned and operated by the hosts, rather an absentee corporation or business. I think that made the difference. Everything was fine, but it didn't have that touch of home that you expect when you stay at a bed and breakfast. For example, when we wanted to use the television, and needed some assistance, when we called the number that was left, the call was blocked. On a whim , we texted Fortunately, they responded right away. But ultimately, after 6 PM you are on your own in terms of staffing. Overall, I can recommend Beaufort House, but I think next time I will try something different.

However, I was expecting this to be a special and elegant experience and it was not. When we arrived during the specific check in time the door was locked and no one was in the front office. It turns out they were showing someone else to their room but we didn't know that. We just stood out on the porch not knowing what to do until someone finally came to the door. There's no reason they couldn't have the front door unlocked during the limited window of check in time. The person who showed us around said there would be "heavy continental breakfast ". However, it turned out the breakfast was probably the very absolute minimum they could provide and still call it breakfast. It was very disappointing. If I'm not mistaken it was only available from 8:30 until 9:30 or something very limited like that. Finally, there was no lotion in our bathroom, only shampoo, conditioner, and hand soap. I would stay there again but I would have to weigh the options of amenities and prices of other hotels. A regular mid price hotel has more amenities than what was offered when we stayed.

This a top notch B&B owned and operated by a very kind, caring, attentive and lovely owner Randy…read more My husband researched and found this absolutely gorgeous B&B and surprised me with an overnight trip to Asheville. First off, be aware the uphill road leading up to the B&B is narrow and does accommodate cars going up and coming down it. There is a community around the B&B, but there is so many trees and foliage, you really never see any of the other houses as they are spread out amongst the hills. Once you arrive at the parking lot of the B&B you feel as though you have been transported far away within its own space and hill/mountain area. Upon approach to the inviting double front doors, you are greeted by gorgeous gardens and an inviting porch. We rang the door bell and our host Randy opened and greeted us. We explained everyone we needed to know about the drinks available to us free (soft drinks) along with a cute coco-cola bucket filled with ice, glasses (wine & soda), coffee which is available all day along with sweeteners & creamer, tea bags and everything needed for such drinks. Also said there would be fresh cookies later afternoon for us to enjoy. On our stay, we enjoyed Raspberry Bars delish!! Our room was cozy and we slept amazing even in a queen bed (no saggy mattress). Each room has a back screen door which leads to a somewhat narrow patio. Which enables you to sit and admire and sit looking out over the absolutely gorgeously manicured gardens with mature trees, shrubs (both flowering and non-flowering), beautiful flowers, bird watch etcetera. It is so tranquil and peaceful while sitting and relaxing. Our room and bathroom was very clean and stocked with the necessary toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body soap, Q-tips, cotton balls and a makeup remover towel). On the main floor, there is a much larger patio to enjoy with a propane fire pit, comfy rocker chairs and non-rocking along with heat lanterns. There is a nice outside covered patio with high top tables to enjoy breakfast, wine, etcetera overlooking the large expansive gardens as well. Truly it was a beautiful B&B. There is a pool table, a large TV, music even a guitar (if you play) in the very over large "living room" for guests to enjoy with plenty of cozy chairs, sofa, rockets to nestle in. Great area to visit, drink hot coffee, wine etcetera. Definitely will be back on our travels into NC. Randy, thanks for making our stay so memorable and enjoyable.

Here are a few of my chief complaints: 1) There was no one to check me in when I arrived late after a long flight from California. After standing in the empty front room for a while, I saw a small sign saying to call a number to check in. I called twice before an insolent teen in sweatpants finally showed up to give me my key. 2) The inn adds a daily "tip" for room cleaning on top of an already high bill. (This is one of the more splurgey places to stay in the Black Mountain area.) If that wasn't rude enough, no one ever came by during my three-night stay to clean/tidy the room. The toilet bowl had dirt marks all over it when I showed up and there they stayed for the duration of my visit. No one made the bed. 3) Internet did not work. 4) Breakfast begins late -- at 8.30am -- because the chef has to take his five children to school. Seriously. So if you're staying there for work, as I was, you have to get breakfast elsewhere. That being said, after a lengthy argument with aforementioned insolent teen, the chef prepped me some breakfast items before he left for the night and left them in the fridge. That was very sweet of him.
