I feel like this restaurant has gotten some bad ratings that are questionable. Maybe someone had a bad night, or a bad day, and was not being fair. Granted, most restaurants will have some days that are better than others. That being said, our experience was nothing short of excellence last night. We had no issues getting a parking space but it was a Thursday evening. We sat at the bar area per our request. The dining room had lots of empty tables but on this particular occasion, we wanted to be near the action. There was a guy playing the guitar and singing some of the older songs that was very good. But on to the service, beer and food. I will start with the service. Our waitress approached our table as soon as we were seated and was very helpful in our selection from the huge list of draft beers. No wait for a cold draft tonight! She was very observant and acknowledged our request to wait to order our food. When the time came, we placed our order for the Fish Taco's with their signature chips and the Chicken Caesar Wrap with French Fries. The food quickly arrived and was all very fresh. The fries were piping hot. The Fish Taco's were very good as was the Chicken Caesar Wrap. I really do not have anything bad to say about our experience at all. What ???? Check out reviews ... All Women --- who don't know anything about what a "good bar" is .... Place is Way over priced for drinks - wait staff is marginal ..... It's like a bad Applebee's. Been eating here for years. Always friendly staff, great food and plenty of sports. Not the biggest fan of the menu changes...the bacon cheese fries disappeared from the menu, but after asking about them, was able to get an order made anyway. How can you not like that?? read more

Always a good spot to catch a game and have some good grub. Can be noisy, even if you are away from the bar, but you are not going to Hickory Tavern for a romantic night out. Plenty of beer to quench any thirst though. read more

Don't ever go to this place and hope to see the hometown team play. The staff was completely unaccommodating to switch any TV...even if absolutely no one was watching the game. Only 4 TV's out of 100 are on the hometown team. Way to support the home team Hickory Tavern! read more

It's unfortunate to have to give this restaurant only 2 stars because the food is delicious, however the customer service is absolutely awful! Having a little child and working full time makes it hard to go out for dinner, but we like to try and order takeout from here during the week. It's a constant problem trying to get somebody on the phone to take our order. We have waited on hold for over 15 minutes to try to place an order and finally have to hang up and go with another restaurant. We have made complaints and have been told by the manager the bar is busy. If the bar is always that busy maybe they should come up with a better way to place to go orders. Plenty of restaurants have a special station just for To Go customers and they seem to do very well. Just a thought... read more

Love going to this place. Excellent burgers and wings. Make sure to get the wings charred. Service was great especially by Jordan and Kaitlin, they went above and beyond to make sure our drinks were filled and our food was good. When I arrived I was greeted with smiles. I was there to pick up an order for one of the companies I work for. The ladies, at the front of the restaurant, graciously directed me to the bar. However the guy behind the bar (Brandon) was rather rude. I was having trouble understanding an order that was placed through the app on my phone and I asked him if he understood it. I completely understand that it was not his job to help me decipher it; however, there's a way that you speak to people when you are conducting business. This is what he said, "If you don't understand your own stuff, how do you think I'm going to understand it...it's your stuff and you should know your own stuff. If y'all don't know your own stuff, I don't know what to tell you." While he was saying this (in front of a customer) his body language represented his frustration with me. I get that he was busy and didn't have a lot of time between customer requests, but his actions were very unprofessional. I got the feeling that he was tired and irritated (judging by his response). I responded to his rudeness with a smile which seemed to end his mild rant. Meanwhile the customer that witnessed his rudeness kept looking at the both of us. I guess she was wondering if I was going to humor him by responding negatively. I've worked in customer service for years and I was not about to let his actions affect me. I waited a very long time for my order, but not once did I question the wait time because I could see they were busy and it was two days after Christmas. I wrote the words "secret shopper also" on the recipient that I signed. I don't know if he saw what I wrote but his attitude changed for the better. For a bar, this place is a must when we travel to Charlotte for hockey. It is a bar. Sports on the TVs, loud and fun. Good staff even when busy. Wings, burgers and brews. You will want to have a shot and stay a while. read more

I should of been more weary when I saw the rating was a 91 but I gave this place a shot. Regrets!! Food and service is the absolute worst. No regard for customers and actually very rude and indifferent. The manager Josh is disgusting and treats customers very badly. Ran our credit card and wouldn't refund a drink that they put on our tab in error. Told us to take up with our bank. Switched our game off in middle of game (Tarheels) to be spiteful. Went across the street to Carolina Ale (rating a 97) - friendly staff - clean - good mix of people in a good atmosphere). Hickory Tavern has gone way downhill...need new management!!! read more

Hickory Tavern continues to disappoint when it comes to seating in the bar area. In the past, it was first come first seating. They now seat you...even in the bar area. I have gone to this Hickory Tavern a few times now and there have been multiple tables vacant in the bar area however I've been asked to wait each time. Once for nearly 30 minutes. The tables remained vacant the entire time until we were seated. Even the servers, who are pretty good, complained about the poor seating situation! Ridiculous! The food is hit or miss. Average. If not for the poor seating situation, I might return. I won't until they get this straightened out. read more

Not impressed !! We come here fairly often but usually the one in Indian Trail- after tonight we wish we hadn't stopped here! The service was slow (it was 10:00 not busy but not dead) our food took over 20 min and the app we ordered was over cooked and super greasy. The table was also very sticky!!! Yuck! I have had good experiences at HT, but this one was mediocre. I went on a Thursday afternoon, around 4:30, for drinks and appetizers. Our server was very attentive and friendly. The chips and salsa came out cold and a little stale. There was also a small piece of old chicken underneath the chips. The chicken tenders came out dark and overcooked on the outside and a little undercooked on the inside. Our server took it back and the manager came out to apologize. She said they didn't bread it correctly and the outside burnt. They gave us new chips and tenders, which were much better. I was a little surprised they didn't comp or discount anything. I just sat down with my husband after a wait of 20 minutes, after watching two parties who came in after us seated ahead of us. One of the couples didn't even have to wait! They walked through the door, went up to the hostess, and before they gave their names, another hostess walked up and said "Oh there's an empty table over there," and off they went! This happened to us here years ago with a longer wait, and I said I'd never come back after we complained and the cute hostesses laughed at us and manager blew us off. Food is okay, but service makes it not even worth it. I had horrible service every time I went in, but the last time was THE last time. A friend and I were there just to get apps and a drink, halfway through eating we watch our waitress leave. We were waiting for her to come back and she never did. The bartender finished waiting on her other table, but NOBODY ever came to check on us. One of the managers was sitting with his family at the table below us and had no idea what had happened. After about 30 minutes we finally had to ask someone for our check even though I was very tempted to not pay a dime. It was ridiculous. The restaurant seems very dirty as well. read more

The manager of this restaurant was an absolute jerk. We were running in from out of the rain just as a HUGE storm was starting - like hurricane type rain - enough to knock down an entire tree outside. We tried to park right out front with our motorcycle to keep the wind off of it so it didn't tip. While it was down pouring, the told us that we had to move it and that he couldn't have us parked right out front. He even pointed to his empty parking lot, saying there were plenty of spaces. He had absolutely no regard for the fact that it was pouring, that we were soaked, and that a nice motorcycle was going to get tipped over in the rain/wind. Had ANY other establishment been available, we would have brought our business there. When we came back in, he didn't say so much as "I'm Sorry", or offer some paper towels to help us dry off. For the poor management and rudeness, I would never recommend this bar to someone else, especially not if you're a bike rider. Also, the tab beer selection sucks - maybe 5 on tap. I ordered a Caeser salad to start which was cold and crisp with right amount of dressing and then the wing entree with teriyaki sauce and a fluffy baked potato with scallions and sour cream. First of all, this place will NEVER get my money EVER again. We called here tonight at 11:20 to see if we could place an order seeing that Google listed them at closing at 12 . The girl that answered the phone answered saying hello. Didn't even say thank you for calling Hickory Tavern or say her name. I had to ask if it was even Hickory Tavern & she rudely said yes. My husband asked if we could place an order & she said no. He asked why not if they closed at 12. She said "we usually close at 12 during the week but tonight we closed at 9. Why are you even calling, it's Christmas Eve! Tomorrow is Christmas. Go to McDonald's!" And then hung up the phone. I've never ever in my life experienced so much rudeness. I don't know who pissed in her corn flakes but I do know that karma is real & for her attitude alone, this place is trash to me. Was it too much to just say "sorry but we closed at 9 tonight." Not once did we say anything mean or rude. Of course we called back twice. First she didn't answer & the second time she answered but didn't say anything and just held the phone. I went to dinner with my family tonight and the food and service was just amazing. The hostesses were so friendly and opened the door for us when we arrived and left even in the rain. They were very welcoming. Our server was funny and seemed very outgoing and made great conversation. Our food was brought out so fast and was very delicious. This is a great restaurant/bar to watch sports. I come here often to watch football and they always have great service. They show every game and will try to get it on a TV near you if possible. It does get busy, so get there early to have your choice in seats. The food is good, I'd especially recommend the baked potato as a side. read more

So I am a frequent customer at different hickory taverns. I visited the one on providence road since I live near by to watch the Yankees vs Astros then after a NHL hockey game which I had watched there a week before. Brooke was very sweet, nice and attentive and was excellent. However the gentleman who was controlling the TVs was not. I asked towards the end of the Yankees game if they could put on the New Jersey Devils game since on the tv next to it was European soccer that nobody was as watching. We were told that they couldn't put the game on because playoff baseball and college football was on however once the Yankees were over they'd change the channel. Once the Yankees game ended I asked if they could put on the game and the guy was hesitant. He walked over and then came back saying that he couldn't put it on because they didn't have the NHL package... first of all don't lie to me. I understand people staying there for a while sometimes can hurt business and all that however had they put the game on we would have spent more money and even invited others to do watch the game. It really seemed like the guy just didn't want to put the game on because it wouldn't be appealing to others that were there. There are over 20 TVs and I can't have one at the bar to watch a hockey game? Also if you're not going to put on the game at least be honest with me... don't lie to my face and say you don't have something when I know for a fact that you do... needless to say I will never return to this location again. read more

I travel a lot and it seems there is always a Hickory Tavern near by! This location is closest to my house and my clear favorite. I go there on Sundays to watch football and with all of the new t.v.'s, the experience is awesome! I got there late and I was still able to watch all of my fantasy players. New menu is impressive! My favorite so far is the Tuna Poke......pronounced Pokay. I thought the Tuna was really good before, and was skeptical at first, but this dish is delicious. Wantons compliment it well. read more

I had an absolutely amazing experience at Hickory Tavern the other day. My waitress Jennifer Bianca was absolutely perfect. 10/10. Hands down the best waitress I have ever had.
