I'll give it two stars for food. But a lot of the servers need retraining. Kinda different feel at this HT. Servers all have attitude that feels like if your not spending enough money you're not worth their time. Bar is the worst. Not friendly vibe at all. Go to Ballantyne. Much better! Just found out about the Providence Road health review .... this location was rated #10 of the 10 worst health scores in Charlotte for the month of July 2017. My name is Velda Brown. I visited this restaurant on February 9, 2024 and again on March 4, 2024 with my friend and the hospitality and service was awesome. Our waitress both times was so nice and took good care of us. The wings and ribs was so delicious so tender and the sides was also tasty. Mr. Omar the manager introduced himself to us when he brought our food to us and he was so nice and he makes sure his customers are satisfied with their meal. I've had by far the worst experience at a restaurant. What a disgusting group of servers, and manager. I want corporate to contact me about this situation. From the start they didn't want to serve me beer because they my ID looks fake. I've showed them my Id. My credit cards and other forms of Identification to prove its real. Next. I ordered my steak which was medium rare. They brought it out fully rare. And I eat rare steaks as well but this was just raw and lightly seared. I asked them to make it medium rare. They brought me another one after about 20 minutes of waiting. The same thing completely raw. I didn't want to be an jerk but I asked for the chef to come out so I can tell them what kind of steak I want. The chef came out and I asked her what temperature do they cook their medium rare steaks too. And she looked very confused and said what do you mean temperature? We cook it more or less raw. ( any chef should know you grill steak and check it by its temperature to know at what point of rarity it is ) And I said well it's very raw id like it more cooked to medium rare. And she said okay so you want medium and more cooked. And I said just medium rare please. I waited for about another 15 minutes. And some people at my table over heard them bad mouthing me and laughing at the situation. And the stares they gave me we rude and disgusting. So I decided to leave because I thought they wouldn't serve my other steak. So long story short do whatever it takes to not come here. You'll be very disappointed. read more

My family went to visit this Hickory Tavern location last night to celebrate a 10th birthday. We were so excited only to be greatly disappointed by not only the food, but also the service. The waitress could not have cared less about us as customers and made us wait an extensive amount of time for our cold food. The restaurant was not busy by any means. When we had to return one of the sandwiches multiple times, her response was that's the way it comes. I wish I had taken pictures to show the undercooked hamburger. When I called the next day to report our experience, the manager was disinterested and brushed me off by saying she'd look into it. Pleasant bar vibe with good food to boot. It did take a little while to get it, but that seems to be the story everywhere with COVID and the worker shortages. I'm a huge fan of Hickory Tavern but every location is different as far as quality of food and service. I stopped here to grab a quick dinner before an appointment right around the corner. There is ample parking and they weren't busy when I dropped in around 5 pm. I ordered my usual. BBQ chicken nachos with extra BBQ sauce. Food was bomb and the service was top notch. I don't usually like BBQ sauce but for some reason I just love it on these nachos! They used to have some really yummy crab dip on the menu that they unfortunately took off because people weren't ordering it enough. Maybe it will make a come back one day. HT is a great go to for football games, wings, and beers. I'll be back next time I'm in this area. read more

This place is a solid 3 stars. Went for brunch on a Sunday. Got chicken and waffles. There were only four other things on the menu. Chicken was perfect. Waffles were tasty but they add a coating of sugar which makes them super sweet. Too sweet. This place is a typical sports bar. Lots of TVs, a nice sized bar and outdoor seating. Probably won't come here again for brunch but will definitely come back to watch a game. read more

The food and service was excellent, I had the Salmon with the hickory Salad and they were out of the brussel sprouts so I got the Gouda Mac and Cheese. everything was so good. The salad was perfect temperature so all the flavors were wonderful. the Gouda Mac and cheese was awesome. My husband had the Ruben and said it was the best one he'd had. (NY guy) Matty was our server and was right there all the time and was so nice. We actually went back two days later with our son because he loves Philly Cheesesteak so he wanted to try it. He said it was really good and said he would he just ask for a little more cheese next time. I was able to get the Brussell spouts with bacon and balsamic glaze this time. Awesome. Last time. The wait staff was accommodating and apologetic, but the food was bland and cold. We get there might be short staffed, but when fries and tots come out cold after they messed up the order, it is clear there is no quality control in the kitchen. Just irritated enough tonight to write a review. I'm a regular at both this location and the one in Wesley Chapel. Forgot my wallet when I ran out so called to see if they might accept some form of payment from my phone tonight (Apple Pay, Venmo, etc). Answer was yes, that could be accommodated. When I arrived the answer changed to no from someone different at front who didn't even bother to check in with the lady who had said yes on phone earlier (I had fought rush hour traffic to get there). What really gets me is that I spend many thousands per year across these locations. At the Wesley Chapel location I'm treated like Norm at Cheers, the servers and manager are so absolutely incredible. I promise they could have figured it out. This location not so much. Went to Hickory Tavern last night for the first time last night. It was in Providence, NC right near Charlotte, NC. I was here due to the hurricane in Florida. The atmosphere was very cool and a extremely busy tavern. The menu was full of great meals and appetizers. There was a variety of "hogies" and I ordered the French Dip and Queso Dip as an appetizer. Our waitress was Jennifer and she was extremely precise in her serving us. We had a party of ten and the drinks were brought out first thing. She took our order at the same time and the appetizer was brought next and very good. After the appetizer our food was brought our within 5 minutes and it looked excellent. The presentation of everyone's food was perfect. The only thing I didn't care for was the lack of shaved prime rib in my sandwich. The beef broth was robust and tasty and everyone was content with each of their meals, Jennifer refilled our drinks on time and she helped make a great time. read more

They also donate to a veterans organization if you buy one of the burgers. I really appreciate them helping out vets. We came on a Sunday for Panther's football. All of the TV's in the dining room were small, most broken, and outdated. I have a larger TV in my bedroom and I'm a 25 year old girl.... Seriously?! They were only playing the Panthers on 1 TV, and golf on the others? Wtf? It's Sunday in Charlotte NC! This place is a sad excuse for a sports bar. I am currently in this establishment and very unimpressed with this location. My son is home for 2 weeks before deployment and asked to come here for lunch. He ordered a burger & mozzarella sticks and I ordered the wings. His sandwich was never put in but my wings were. The manager brought me my food and I asked for more ranch never came. Once my son received his sandwich the server said he would be back with ranch and it never came. I tip at least 20% but today he will get far less. I must admit that for awhile, I didn't see the appeal of Hickory Tavern. Sure, it has TV but even disgusting Applebees has TV and the food was so-so for the price. Then, things changed and the menu has improved and the prices have decreased so now I'm a fan. Hickory Tavern is my kind of bar and grill. If I want to grab a beer or more and watch the game, the bar is well lit, the music isn't too loud to talk, and the sports selection is plentiful. I've been to a few Hickory Taverns around the Charlotte area and this one is by far the best. The location is in the fast growing Ballantyne area and rests next to the Charlotte Golf Links course. Perfect for playing 18 and strolling over to the bar. The bar/patio/restaurant areas are large and loaded with places to sit for the busy times. Personally, I prefer the bar area for everything and it has always worked out well. We've eaten the wings, lobster roll, and the homemade chips and loved everything (Wings - nice and crispy with numerous sauce choices). They do a very good job of using fresh bread and ingredients for their sandwhiches. The best meal was the Chicken Avocado sandwich. Very healthy and very flavorful. The only reason that I held off on the 5th star was the beer selection. I thought it was rather lacking on the draft choices. Other than that, they have great daily drink specials and surprisingly delicious oyster days. TVs and large projection screens on every corner and wall -- I cant ask for anything more than that. We asked "what's on draft"... She couldn't name one beer on draft... We asked "what do you have for dessert".. couldn't name one, but she did tell us about something that they used to have... We asked for several things that we never received. It was not busy. We went there for my dad's birthday because he likes their chicken tenders. I have never eaten a full meal at Hickory Tavern, but I have been in here several times with friends to grab a couple of appetizers and beverages. The menu is typical bar food - not great but not bad either. I am always a fan of oysters and they offer them on the half shell.... yay! They do have a nice patio that I like to enjoy when weather permits. Service on my visits has been hit or miss. I have been several times when it is really crowded and it can be a challenge to get served. However, on visits when it was not so busy, the service was very good. In addition to all of the TVs for the sports fans, they also have live music on occasion. The overall atmosphere is comfy and laid back but I think a little nicer than many sports bars. read more

Worst experience at a Hickory Tavern ever. Place was 1/4 filled and server never showed until asking multiple times. 30 minutes for drinks. Had to go to the bar to get an order in. Manager could care less. He's watching a football game and having a drink at the bar as I'm writing this. Had to ask for utensils multiple times. While manager his having a drink our food gets cold, orders are wrong or forgotten, waters go unfilled. I'm sick and tired of a complete lack of service being ok. read more
