5 years ago I would have rated Hickory Tavern a solid 4 stars. But the bar has lost the service and cleanliness it once had. Food prices went up, food quality went down, and the place has gotten filthy. From the floor, to chairs, to baby seats - everything has a sticky touch to it. Beer is ridiculously overpriced. Burgers are meh - you'd be better off going to Saveeda's for a burger. Much better taste and the cheaper. Or just drive to Waxhaw and get Rippingtons or Maxwell's tavern to go and eat at the brewery... I hope they can renovate or deep clean the place, work on getting their menu shored back up - then maintain it. I just don't bother going there anymore. read more

This is the most basic place that is honestly amazing to go out to dinner when you have kids. The kids meals are cheap and perfect portions. Don't get the tacos, stick to basic hand held sandwiches and burgers. Beer specials are nice. read more

Very poor service. Appetizer never arrived. Our meals came so we began to eat and even finished. Manager said she would get it right out but we finished our meals and it still never arrived. We have been here 4 times and I believe that I am a gluten for punishment. Absolutely the worst Hickory Tavern that We have been to. Food is terrible no matter what you order and they can't even get you beer order correct. Which in my opinion is sacrilege for a place with Tavern in their name. Finally, the service is also terrible. Be prepared for you sever to be rude and disappear for long periods of time. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. Lucky a new one is open in Indian Trail. Been going there a long time and it's a good neighborhood place with good variety of food that for the most part is great. The problem is in the time it takes to get the food! I was looking for something nearby and quick so I gave Hickory Tavern another try. This time I had their "New Pulled Pork Tacos". They were OK except for the big globs of pork fat in each. I have been coming to Hickory Tavern in Wesley Chapel since they opened. I even worked there for about 4.5 years. I love the atmosphere, and now that I no longer work there, I still love going in and seeing familiar faces. The company recently changed up the menu and added Brussels sprouts, which my boyfriend RAVES about. I am a classic, wing kind of girl myself. Burgers are great. Beer is always ice cold (and lets all be honest with ourselves that's really most important!) I highly recommend seeing Victoria behind the bar and Kassi in the bar dinning room! Always great service. Kitchen can be slow at times, but what do you expect when you're putting out so much food at once!? I recommend 100%. read more

Some of the worst food I've had at a restaurant. Gordon Ramsey please visit this place! Ordered a variety of food because we were fearful of the quality once we sat down and took a look at the place. The chicken tacos make Taco Bell seem like authentic Mexican. They are pretty much what they served in high school cafeterias. The smothered chicken was a disaster. It was supposed to be a chicken breast with onions, mushroom, etc with melted cheese, but what we got was an undercooked piece of chicken with veggies around it were ridiculously overcooked creating a pile of mush with cheese on top. We also ordered the blackened tilapia. Tilapia is a dirty fish already. Now imagine it frozen and thawed, overcooked, and then someone dumps some McKormick blackening spice all over it. One bite and I thought I was eating something that was received from the coals in the grill. Awful. Bottom line.....go here for a beer and to watch a game, but do yourself a favor and don't order ANY of the food. It's all frozen and thawed tasteless crap. read more

Really my rating would be 3.5, but that's not an option. Though they're a "tavern," they have a whole section devoted to dining. That said, I think they need to work on the menu and add more options that aren't sports bar related. For instance more steak or more seafood options. We went for dinner on Monday night. We have gone there many times over the years. This was the worst service we have ever had, the kitchen was definitely lacking. It took our hamburgers a long time to be served, but we tolerated it to not ruin our dinner. My burger was cooked correctly, medium well. My husband's burger was rare and he had also ordered medium well. We requested a replacement from our server, who was a very nice young lady. After 45 minutes of getting updates from our server that it was coming out shortly, we asked for the manager. She apologized and said she was just back there reprimanding the kitchen about our and other orders. We said we were leaving, we were at our wit"s end. No offer of a gift card or discount. Did offer free dessert which would "be right out". We did not wait. Very disappointing. read more

I would always like coming to this place with the family. The food is average but there's lots of TV's to keep the kids busy, it's loud enough that it doesn't matter if the kids get loud and there is a good selection of beer. Apparently though I've been doing it wrong because you don't have to wait for a table you can just walk in a sit down. It was a crowded evening tonight and after waiting for our turn to be seated we were told we were next after our table was cleaned off. Instead an older man came in, said something to a watress then grabbed his own menu and sat down. Rather than ask the gentleman to leave we were told by the hostess that we'd have to wait for the next available table. Instead we left. I wasn't going to have a confrontation with them or the old man in front of my children who were already a half-hour past their normal dinner time due to the wait. I did call later and the manager apologized but admitted that he already found out what happened but he didn't kick the man out after we left. Sure we had left and he couldn't do anything about that but there were other people that should have been seated before the old man. So they effectively gave a booth to a single old man instead of a families with children who had been waiting for a while. We were frequent customers for the past few years especially in the summer when we could sit outside. We aren't on first name basis with them or anything but a few of the waiters/waitresses always remember is and our daughters. One waiter we've had a number of times had even come over, said hi to us and got youngest daughter to laugh while we were waiting tonight before all this happened. After our experience tonight though our money will be spent elsewhere. read more

This is my go to place to eat good food. The manager, Amanda, is awesome. She takes time to let me know what their specials are and explains future dishes coming on the menu. But the details about the ingredients make you reschedule other events just to make sure you show up to eat food that you can find nowhere else. Wednesday nights are wing night. Wings on special. Their special macaroni is to die for. The chocolate chip cookie desert came out hot and it was all I could do to eat just one...........I took the other four home..........ok, three made it safely. Well, I had hoped this place wold have developed more consistency after being open a while, but it still sucks. Last time we checked in with four people we gave a phone number, and we were given a pager, but even though they could have seated us after fifteen minutes, they let us sit right by the hostess stand for another forty minutes. The girls had written down the cell number wrong, i.e., they didn't think to literally just say our table was ready, or use the pager, or walk two feet and simply gesture. In other words, they didn't want to do their jobs, or didn't care, or both. After that we waited twenty minutes for drinks and apps, and then another half hour for food. The whole experience took two and a half hours, and the food wasn't nearly good enough to justify that waste of life. Just avoid this place. You may get seated in five minutes or an hour depending on how the staff feels, and you may eat inside of one hour depending on the waiter/waitress, and that is one hour from when you sit. You may also be told the wait is forty-five minutes, only to be forced to sit at the group table in the bar, and see entire sections stand empty despite the faux wait the hostess claimed. For a similar experience just order from a drive-thru, take it home and stare at it until you are too disgusted to eat anymore, then throw fifty bucks in the trash. read more

Most likely one of the most horrid dining experiences ever! I wait thirty minutes and my waitress comes to my table and asks again what I ordered. Thirty minutes and my order has not even been put in! They gave me free chips for the wait, if I wanted chips and salsa I would have ordered them! If the food wait was not bad enough, I had to wait 15 minutes just to get a drink around here. Even after I finally got my drink, I never even had it topped off. Been here often. Seems like every visit gets worse. If there are any potential competitors thinking of opening a nearby bar: I'll happily take my business to you. Went here for dinner with family and friends. The place is nice, TVs all over plus the giant screen. I had chicken wings and they were awesome. Great selection of beer. It does get packed. We came on a Thursday night - football. I will definitely come back here for several reasons but to me the most important thing is that the servers are friendly. read more

The waitress did an outstanding job. She was very attentive and helpful. Our oysters were nicely chilled and had a good saltiness. They tasted very fresh however, the shells could have been scrubbed a little better. I liked that they had a local beer selection. Had lunch here today and it was great! For a sports bar the food is very good. We had a very good server and very good food. I really like the fish taco's and the tavern chips. The manager stopped by and chatted with us and she is very friendly. People need to remember they are in a sports bar that is always busy and not an up scale restaurant. read more

Let me start off by saying we are a GM and AGM of a restaurant/bar in Charlotte and have been in the industry for over 20 years. We come to the Weddington location because it is close to our house and have never had an issue before (we always have sat at the bar) We came today to watch the football games. We had invited 3 other friends to join us. We arrived at 12:45 to watch the 1:00 games and got sat by the hostess. (No spots at the bar) we then literally with no exaggeration waited 32 minutes for a waiter to come over. The only reason it wasn't longer is because my fiancé went up to the bar and asked for a manager. The manager apologized and sent a server over. The server blamed it on management (you never do that) We ordered waters, 1 beer, and one mimosa pitcher. We then waited another 18 minutes for our drinks including water. The tables next to us had got seated at least 20 minutes after us and were all served and got food before our waters even came. As a manager when you were told (in a very nice manner) that you have a full table of people "in the business" that we're having an issue we were just expecting a walk by "how is everything " or anything due to the fact that the service never got better. We had multiple tables around us complaining as well. The restaurant was not busy at all. Unfortunately this 3 hour experience has put a very bad taste in our mouth and will be going to a different location from this point on. read more

This location is super convenient since I live up the street.. but every single time I've been here it just isn't good. I literally order a kids grilled cheese and sweet potato fries and every time they've messed it up. I usually call and order to-go and it seems like every time I call I have to wait 10 minutes for someone to take my order. And then when I pick it up, my food is either cold, burnt or wrong.
