The last two times I've been to Jekyll & Hyde were elite for completely different reasons. Second‑to‑last visit, we'd been having way too much fun wandering around Waxhaw and fully lost track of time. Like, "how is it this late?" energy. We rolled into Jekyll & Hyde expecting the bare minimum--and instead got a staff that was still upbeat, friendly, and actually excited to help us pick food. Everything came out fresh and delicious, which honestly felt like a small miracle given how late it was. Then we went back on St. Patrick's Day, aka controlled chaos. The place was slammed, but the bartenders were absolute pros--friendly, fast, and somehow still smiling. They even had Irish dancers, which took the night from "fun" to "this is why we came out." Both visits were a blast. Whether you accidentally wander in late or show up for a full holiday circus, Jekyll & Hyde delivers good vibes and a good time. read more

Can't believe this place doesn't have higher reviews. Drinks were awesome. Smoked old fashion, whiskey sidecar and beers. We got a pretzel and it was so delicious. I got fish and chips and he got a Brekkie burger. Fish and chips were good but I would say the portion was small for dinner. However i think it was fresh and flavorful. The burgers looked awesome. I ordered the house breakfast, which included eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing enough that I won't be returning. The scrambled eggs were overcooked and had an unpleasant metallic taste and cold. The bacon provided was like a piece of 2 strips of bacon and the butter served with the meal was still frozen. While the potatoes and toast were the strongest parts of the breakfast. I would like to acknowledge that the manager responded professionally by providing a 50% discount and personally offering to recook the eggs. My girlfriends took me here for my birthday dinner this year. They insisted that I have a steak. I must say that the steak was delicious, cooked perfectly, and a great price! First time here and just ok. I really liked the decor so kudos there. The service was good as well. Started with the Bacon Pimento Cheese balls which were delicious. Slightly disappointed that you only get 4 for the price but again they were delicious. I then went with the Reuben Sandwich. It was a major disappointment. While the bread was good, there really wasn't much sauerkraut and the corner beef was very tough. I had to remove it from the bread just to eat it. I also added truffle fries and they were just ok. Not the best, not the worst. Standard pub like establishment with 2 rooms. One more family style sit down and another with a full sized bar in the middle. Plenty of Jekyll beers on tap that were all delicious. Menu full of options from some entrees, to burgers/sandwiches and a few soups and salads. The wait staff was young, but pretty friendly and on top of it for the most part. I thought some of the dishes were a hit (1885 chicken sandwich) and some were a miss (Mac n cheese). Wife and I decided to try this new Waxhaw restaurant/taphouse. A good idea. Similar to the Irish Pub down the street, this is a two-room operation, taking up two store fronts. One room has a large bar in the center, with some tables around it. The other room is the dining room, divided into two halves, each with 8 tables. Unlike the Irish Pub, this is a quiet atmosphere. Menu is excellent. Appetizers, which includes flatbreads, Soups and Salads, Steaks and Entrees, Burgers and handhelds, a brunch menu and a lunch menu. Separate QR reader required menu for tap beers and wines. Wife had a glass of house Cabernet, Twenty Acres ($8) and I waded through the beers on tap, close to 20 being offered, opting for one of the two lagers ($7). Gave our order to our server, Isabel B. Wife went for the chopped BLT salad ($14) which was HUGE. Surely enough for two to share. It was very good. I had the fish and chips ($18). It was one somewhat large piece of very lightly coated flaky white fish which was cooked perfectly and yummy to eat. It came in a bowl topping nicely cooked French fries. If you are really hungry and opt for fish and chips, have an appetizer, as the portion of fish is not filling. It was good, but perhaps the menu could offer one or two pieces of fish? I would have ordered two pieces. Service very prompt and friendly. Park is in a graveled lot behind the building, around the block. Another excellent eatery in Waxhaw. Worth a try. read more

We brought our friends of 43 years visiting from New Hampshire here and were so pleased that they LOVED the dinners. 2 of us had the pan seared scallops and 2 had the Shepherds Pie for main courses. All were delighted and pretty full before we left the restaurant. The service was very nice and we thought our server might have been new, but he did a great job. Of course, the restaurant is quite interesting and the large, motorized Halloween Monsters added to the ambiance. A cozy restaurant but a bit noisy when crowded. The menu features Irish, American and English cuisine. The staff was very friendly and accomadating. Three of us ordered the Hyde's Shepard pie and one of us ordered the Limerick beer glazed salmon with roasted brussel Sprouts. Everything was very tastey, plated nicely and good portion size. We recently tried this place in Waxhaw for the first time on a weekday evening. The restaurant wasn't crowded and we were seated right away. The interior is nice and inviting, and the hostess was polite. My spouse ordered a whiskey drink that was smoked, he thought it was very weak on the whiskey. There were several items on the menu that were only for lunch that I would've liked to try but we were there at dinner time. My spouse had the flame seared salmon. He thought it was just ok, it didn't have a flamed flavor to him. The potato portion was small, but the serving of broccolini was large. I had the chopped BLT salad and it was very disappointing. It had too much dressing on it and tasted like just lettuce and bacon. The tomatoes and onion had no flavor and I thought it was very odd to put hot onion straws on top of a salad. I brushed them off and ate them separately. I debated about adding chicken to my salad but the extra cost didn't seem worth it. I should've tried something else. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars -- even 4 -- but I'm giving 3 because the prices just don't match the quality. I absolutely love the atmosphere inside; it's got such a great feel. Unfortunately, not all of the staff are friendly, and the bartenders don't seem to know how to make drinks properly. The cocktails are overpriced for what you get. The food itself is good, but it's inconsistent -- sometimes it's amazing, and other times the same dish is cooked completely differently. I truly hope they tighten things up because this place has so much potential! And I hate that my friends and I always decide elsewhere than Jekyll. read more

11/27/24. Went midday for some thanksgiving eve cocktails and snacks. We had a few beers and Mrs. Clausmo, a spin on a cosmo(really tasty). Went here this weekend to celebrate my dad's birthday while visiting from NY. Everyone enjoyed the food, even the little ones. Some adjustments needed to be made, but our server Nathan was more than helpful in making sure we had everything we needed. Prices were pretty fair. I had lunch there today and ordered the Cuban sandwich. It took over 30 minutes for two of us to be served simple lunches (one soup and one sandwich). My sandwich came with the bread so burnt it was black. The food runner told me that if it was too burnt that she would be glad to return it. I did and it took a very long time to receive another. That one wasn't burnt but was not good. It took a long time to get our check and our server did not stay on top of drink refills. The place was definitely not busy, so the extremely slow service disappointed me. I will go to the Matthews location next time. read more

best spot. in waxhaw. i go every friday for dinner and drinks. the grilled salmon with the scalloped potatoes and green beans is always my go to and is always very good. fridays usually have my favotites alex ethan and doug behind the bar, all 3 are great bartenders/mixolologists and can make any cock tail into a mock tail. always great service and a great time with these guys behind the bar. they are all very fast and accurate, but still manage to have a little conversation with new comers and regulars like me. if you're in the waxhaw area definitely check it out and tell them kevin sent you. if you go friday get there earlier for parking and a table or seat at the bar. read more

So disappointed...friends said it was good. Went there tonight 9 /1 no one in there. Service was so bad waited to give our orders. Ordered a salad to come out first waited 15 minutes for it than had to ask waitress for it. We got the seared scallops were so tuff, told the waitress she never said sorry to hear that or would you like something else just turned and walked away. This was our third visit to Jekyll and Hyde in Waxhaw. Arrived at 6:30 on a Friday night and they were busy. We stood at the hostess area for several minutes and were ignored by two hostesses. They never greeted us or smiled. Looked miserable! Was told an hour wait with an attitude so we gave our name. Went to the bar which was crowded but the bartender was friendly and attentive. Took our drink order. We were seated within 20 minutes. Service was not good sadly. Drinks took forever and had to ask the waitress twice for them. We ordered the tuna tower and asked they please peel the cucumber because it's very chewy the last time. The waitress left and came back to tell us the manager said they were too busy to peel cucumbers (WTH) so we cancelled that dish. Food is just OK. Drinks and food l are pricey and service not good. Went to the Matthews location 5 years ago and loved it. Went with my family after they opened in Waxhaw and was very disappointed! Service was not good. After waiting 20 mins for server to take our order we waited forever to get our food. No one ever came back to see how the food was or if we needed anything else. The food was just ok and very overpriced. I hope that they are at least paying there staff more with what they are charging for meals. read more

We went out with friends and it was their first time at this spot. The Halloween decorations created a fun atmosphere, which we appreciated. Our group grew unexpectedly from four to five, so we moved to a high-top table in the bar area. That wasn't an issue, but we did wonder if being in the bar affected the quality of our service. Our server was enthusiastic--maybe a bit too much for our taste. She gave an extensive rundown of their house-made beers and liquors, which felt more like a sales pitch than a helpful overview. We just wanted our regular drinks that you could easily order anywhere. We eventually placed our drink orders, only to find out that most of the spirits, including vodka, were made in-house. My husband's bottled beer turned out to be non-alcoholic by mistake, and several others in our group said their drinks didn't taste like what they ordered. One drink, a double vodka cranberry, was mixed with something other than cranberry juice. When we asked about it, a manager explained they used a substitute but offered to remake it with actual cranberry juice from a bottle. That should've been done correctly the first time. Three drinks had to be redone, and one friend just accepted hers even though it wasn't right--she didn't want to make a fuss. It took about 15 minutes to get drinks ordered for four of us,( I was not drinking) partly due to the server's lengthy pitch. Once we finally sorted out the drinks after the mess up and ordered food, it was nearly an hour before we got to eat. The Salmon was good but the potatoes were lukewarm at best-not wishing to return anything at this point after waiting so long to get our food- I decided to suck it up and not complain. Even though the meal was expensive. The food tasted decent in spite of this, and we enjoyed catching up with our friends, but the whole drink experience was frustrating. It felt like the bar staff either didn't know the drinks well or weren't focused on getting them right. We later learned it's a brewery, which explains the house-made beer and vodka, but we were just hoping for simple, straightforward drinks--not flavored beer or experimental mixes. read more

Let's start with the positives my family loves the chicken sandwich and it's been consistently good. If you are gluten intolerant, this place is not safe. And you are limited, to the steak and steamed vegetables. And don't bother asking for what temperature you want your steak because you will get it overcooked 100% of the time. I know this by experience. It's never been good. Also we had an experience where my husband and sons Wing's came out raw. When the manager approached us, he was combative. I wasn't looking for anything. Just letting you know our wings were raw. This led me to believe that this place needs better management. So that is all. This place gets two stars for the good chicken sandwich for people that can eat gluten. read more

This was my third visit to this restaurant and I have previously enjoyed my meals. But today, both the food and the customer service were lacking. I ordered the Reuben and when my waitress came back to see how I liked my food, I told her I didn't like the sandwich. The bread was soggy. The meat was a thick cut and tough. Every bite the sandwich basically fell apart and was unpleasant to eat. My waitress's response was "Yeah, we don't make a traditional Reuben here." And she walked away. I don't think she really meant to be rude. I think she was very young and not trained on how to properly handle a customer complaint. That her response clearly said that my enjoyment of their food was irrelevant to her. As I left, I did speak to her manager to explain that he needed to train his staff properly on dealing with customer complaints. He was apologetic and thanked me for bringing it to his attention. Perhaps it was just a bad day, but when the food and the service are both poor, it certainly doesn't make you want to go back. read more
