6 of us stayed in the cabins this week for a relaxing girls getaway with so so results. The cabins left much to be desired. Bathrooms were dirty and not enough linens. One of the cabins tv didn't work and the beds were badly in need of new mattresses. I understand bugs when you are in the woods, but we had a tree frog guest in one room and signs of a mouse in the bathroom. The view was very nice and staff was friendly but not good at returning calls. We also felt they should offer food during the week even if it was a limited menu so you could stay there instead of having to drive somewhere else to get a meal. read more

Hidden Lake Winery is ridiculous! My son and his fiance were scheduled to get married the beginning of May 2020. Well we're in the middle of a pandemic and everything is closed per our Governor. My kids obviously have to postpone their wedding which is a big disappointment. But these greedy people want my kids to pay extra money to postpone their wedding. They're not trying to work with them in anyway. They flat out told him that it would be $700 extra if they pushed their wedding back to August of 2020. And even more money to push it back to May of 2021. These kids signed a contract they put their money down and now these people are wanting to milk more money out of them for something they can't control. Angela has been arguing with my son's fiance who has stage 4 cancer by the way on the daily over this. Long story short we canceled with them all together because We obviously don't want to have a wedding at a venue where the people are so greedy that they can't accommodate people during a pandemic. Of course they kept what money we've already paid. All of this was out of the kids control. I have 2 friends who their children are getting married at different venues of course. They are having no problem at all with their weddings being pushed back. Both of them push their wedding back until next year to give this pandemic time to clear out and their venues were totally happy to do it for them. If I could I would give this winery no stars. We've been coming here for years .... absolutely loved the place. The scenery was gorgeous, the wines were very good and the restaurant was fabulous. We were there a few months ago and if you weren't part of a wedding party, you were treated like a leper and the restaurant had closed. The grounds were not maintained and the wine list was drastically reduced. We basically decided we wouldn't come back anymore. However, when we noticed they were having a Valentine's dinner (which we had gone to a couple of times in the past) we decided to give it another try. What a mistake!!! We were promptly seated only to wait 45 minutes to get salads. First we waited 20 minutes to even have a server come to the table a/o get water. We finally got our own. There were no bread plates so when bread was served there was no place to put it and there was no salt and pepper on the table. That would not normally have been an issue, but most of us ordered steaks which came with a baked potato. The potato was supposed to have been loaded (cheese, bacon, green onion and sour cream. There wasn't even butter on the plate. The steaks were incredibly tough, the potato was so cold the toppings we finally got just sat on top, not melting and the so-called broccoli parmesan was flavored with what seemed like red pepper. I could eat none of it and refused to pay. Which basically wasn't contested. Needless to say we won't be back. How disappointing. read more

The food was pretty good, however it was overpriced and the dinner menu selection was very limited. I went there on my birthday and brought a party of 10 with me. It turned out to be one of the worst dinner experiences I've ever had. Our server was incredibly rude. She got annoyed with my table when we asked for seperate checks at the end of the meal. However, she did not ask us before if we needed them. She then told us there is a "rule" that she can only run two credit cards total. We should have been told about this rule at the beginning of the dinner. So my friends had to scramble to combine money and figure the check situation out on our own. Then our server frisbee tossed my friends credit card back to her after she ran it. I called to complain about the service, which I never do, and the owner said she would send us a gift card and appologized for the terrible service. A month later and the gift card never came. Myself and 6 of the other people that were dining with me that night were servers, so we understand that you can get busy and frustrated or may be having a bad day. However, the service we received from our waitress and the managers lack of follow through has ensured that we will never eat there again. Hopefully someone from the winery will read this and make strides to better their customer service. read more

If you are looking for a very nice quiet a secluded place to relax on a Sunday day then I would recommend this place. We went with a few friends on a Sunday ride and the ride there was awesome. When you pull up to the place the lake is a beautiful sight. Parking was okay kind of limited, not any parking for motorcycles btw. Walking in the actual bar area nothing really too impressive.The decor was simple and nothing exciting. We tried two sweet wines,one was called buck wild crazy I think and we were pretty impressed. What I was not impressed with was the interaction between us and the worker behind the bar. He didn't really go into too much detail to tell us about the wines, he just poured. I particularly thought the prices of the wines were a little high compared to other wineries. My favorite thing about this place was the scenery and the trail that they have on property. If the prices were cheaper and the staff were a little more interactive I would give this place a 4 star. read more

I LOVED this winery. There are so many areas you can hang out. My sisters and I loved going here, drinking wine, and listening to music. I also bought a bottle of wine to take home. Not a TON of choices, but enough. Will be back. read more

I can't say enough great things about this winery and it's staff. Amy, our coordinator, was personable, easy going, and eager to please. Our picture reel we created wasn't working on their projector at the rehearsal, so she took it home and messed with it until 2am to make it ready for our day. When that didn't work, she sent someone from her staff home to bring in their 72" TV to use it. The chef, Wes, let us customize our menu to suit us. We told him our style, and he ran with it. We love beer, so he marinated the beef in a vanilla porter and then encrusted it in a cocoa and coffee mixture. Meats were tender and so flavorful, he let me add bacon to whatever I wanted, and he checked in with me at the rehearsal dinner to make sure everything was to our standards and to see if we were happy. Our guests are still talking about how perfect and organized everything was, how the food was the best wedding food they have ever had, how gorgeous the setting was, and how nice the bartenders were. I would recommend this location to anyone having an event or wedding. Wes and Amy made our day easy, fun, and unforgettable. We will be coming back for wing nights, lazy winery Saturdays, and anniversary dinners! Thank you everyone involved in our day, we couldn't have asked for anything better. read more

I planned a wedding at Hidden Lake Winery and it was the most perfect day ever! The setting is exquisite and the service was more than I could have ever expected. The event coordinator there was very upfront with us about what the winery provided and they delivered on every single promise they made. The event staff went out of tehir way to make sure that every need was met. The cabins were gorgeous and the banquet room (the Champagne Hall) was right out of a fairy tale. I wouldn't even rate this one star but this is as low of a rating I can give. We drove all the way out there. Sure, the site was nice but the service was horrid. We would ask questions and the bored snotty server at the wine tasting counter would barely mutter one word answers. You have to pay a quarter for each sample of wine. That would be alright with me if I actually got a sample. My party barely got enough wine to cover the bottom of the glass. I would venture 1 tablespoon in each glass. I would never go here again unless I had to. The snotty attitude for back country wine was beyond hilarious. Save the gas money and buy some Blue Nun. read more

As unbelievable as it may seem, we managed to put together of wedding in a 4 week window. We chose The Estate at Hidden Lake Winery as our venue. Asked for dates that were open in December (mind you this was Thanksgiving week that we asked), we were told the 27th was open and that was that. Our wedding date was set for December 27, 2014. The Estate was perfect. The atmosphere is so relaxing and stunning that the decor we had to bring in was limited. They were so workable with us as we wanted to bring in rented lounge furniture to provide additional casual seating outside of the banquet room and adding more rented dance floor pieces to enlarge the dance floor. They even went far beyond what can be expected and made a special chicken dish for the meal - one that was not listed on their menu choice. In an extremely short time period, we had a wedding that looked like it was in the works for a year. Is it possible to give less than one star? If you value your health, your sanity or your money...stay away from this place. Beautiful scenery, but everything else was a nightmare. Horrible rude manager (Amy) not enough staff for the amount of business(it was a weekend), and the food not only tasted bad, but gave me violent stomach cramps. The only thing the "manager" did was yell at her helpless, 14 year old waitress. I heard the place is up for sale..hope the next owner does better. read more

This years Mothers Day brunch was average compared to last year. Last years brunch was more eloquent. The dishes that were served each had a marker on what it was. There was also more variety! The chicken I had today was not thoroughly cooked. The atmosphere was good. We will be back and I hope to see an improvement. read more

I don't even know where to begin honestly. We went there this past Friday night to celebrate a friends birthday and I'll never spend my hard earned money there ever again. I'm not one to ever bother with a review, much less a bad one but I'm just still so disgusted with our experience. We sat outside by the lake and the cheap plastic tables were broken and jagged on the edges. Heaven forbid you lean forward onto the table, it will scratch you and possibly rip your clothing of it gets caught up. This was EVERY table out there. They were also dirty, chairs included. The wine had sugar clumps hardened in the bottom of the bottle, you could NOT drink the last few oz. because of this. I have never seen this before, it was disgusting. The wine we were drinking only had 1% RS so I'm still very confused as to why. The wine pricing is obserd and falsely presented. Our wine was listed on the menu for $19.00 (fair enough) but when she rang it up the cost was $27. We were told tax and various fees make up the difference. Awesome, we just paid almost $30.00 for sugar water. We we're not given an ice bucket despite it being almost 95 degrees outside at 7pm. I came back in to ask for one and had to leave my I.D...FOR AN ICE BUCKET?! Then she put a few cubes in there and handed it to me. Seriously, it's HOT outside and this measly scoop of ice would have lasted 3 minutes in the metal ice bucket. Come on. I asked for more ice and reminded her how hot it was outside...I was met with attitude and frustration for my request but she begrudgingly did it. We we're eating there as well so we chose the bread and olive oil, the bacon wrapped jalapenos and the meat/cheese/fruit plate. The jalapenos had a strawberry relish which was fantastic. My only complaint with these was with the bacon. It was so thin and soggy. Not terrible mind you but definitely not quality bacon which is a shame because there are several wonderful butchers in the local area that have phenomenal bacon. They obviously aren't buying their meats local. The meat/cheese/fruit platter was misleading. The cheese was pre-cut packaged cheese, the summer sausage was good but summer sausage is typically delicious...and the "fruit" was 5 grapes...5 grapes that appeared to be a week past their peak, we did not eat them. The olive oil and bread was simply plain olive oil in a container and some toasted french bread. Still not sure why this is on the menu because I assure you if anyone is ordering bread and oil they expect warm oil with seasonings. We we're not brought silverware, napkins or side plates. I had to ask for all of that...to which the young boy pulled out styrofoam plates and wrapped silverware from his dirty apron. I digress. We finished our meal and wine then got the heck out of there. This place needs management badly! They need product control, quality assurance, new patio furniture that doesn't look like it came from dumpster diving, clear/concise pricing and a staff that is trained in hospitality. This is a beautiful winery and the location is incredible, it's sad to see that nobody cares enough to make it a place people want to frequent. I hope whomever ends up purchasing it (heard from the grapevine its for sale) is willing to put the time and money into making it worth visiting. The ground work is already there. In the meantime, save yourself the disappointment and loss of hard earned cash and go somewhere else. read more

I've been to the winery at least 3 times in the past two years. I stayed in the cabins in 2015, and there were some spiders, and the linens needed updating at that time, but I expected this since they are located in a wooded area. However, the food and wine were great and the atmosphere was very relaxing. I went back in 2016, but chose not to stay in the cabins. The food was good, and wine was great. The property is beautiful, and it's very relaxing. There are new owners, and i noticed lots of changes like Sunday brunch during my visit in November 2017. The food continuous to be good, and there are delicious new items on the menu. I spoke to the new owners who were very nice to me. They are very excited to bring us new things in the months to follow. Every time I've visited, I've brought new people with me and they all love it. They plan on coming back even if it is a few hours drive from Chicago. The website shows new linens on the beds and the cabins do look a little more welcoming. I am staying there a few nights in 2018, and I will let you know if that has improved. read more

I originally booked the Majestic Falls location of Hidden Lake Winery for my September 2009 wedding about a year out. I met with a coordinator that was very friendly, informative and helpful. About 3 months before the wedding my fiance and I hadn't heard a word from the winery, not even for our payment, so I decided to schedule a follow up appointment. We met with Lori... the new coordinator... and she was awful. She didn't know anything about our contract, nor did she take the time to learn about it before our appointment. She was very passive aggressive with us throughout the entire process. Weeks before the wedding she wasn't returning calls or emails, I had to hire my friend to fill in as event coordinator in her absence. To top it off, every employee of Hidden Lake Winery knew of my wedding as "the wedding with the thing"?! I'm not a difficult person to please, but I would never recommend their services to anyone. Which is a total shame because the location is beautiful. read more

When we first started going to the winery it was fabulous. The staff was helpful and attentive and the cabins were wonderful. Now everything is looking run down. The cabins are beginning to get shabby, there was mold on the ceiling of the bathroom in cabin 2. The never turned the lights on at night so it was hard to see. The lights around the drive by the cabins never came on. The front porch light in cabin 2 came on and went off whenever it wanted to. The air conditioning in cabin 2 did not work properly so we ended up opening the windows to get some relief. When we mentioned this to the staff they had no interest in hearing it, or doing anything about it. The reply was oh really. Not to mention the cost of renting the cabins have increased and paying more for cabins that are not being kept up and cleaned properly is not what I want to do. They also closed the restaurant so if you want food you have to drive to Breese, or Aviston, or St Rose which are all nice little towns and they have a lot of options. read more

We were just at the winery for a wedding reception on June 20, 2015. The weather had been rainy all month, but that Saturday it was beautiful! BUT the reception hall upstairs at one point read 87 degrees on the thermostat!! We had guest leave because of the heat...The food was nothing to brag about and was very limited in quanity passed out to our guest. In fact some had to ask for more. For the price we paid per plate, it was so not worth it. We were told we would have servers...No one every came and brought additonal water to the tables. No one ever came and cleared the tables of dirty dishes. We were to have servers cut the cake and serve pies. Again this service was a disaster. Yes the hall was beautiful thanks to the decorator!! Oh and the bride and groom were to have the honeymoon cabin that night---guess what no air conditioning!! I would hope their monies were refunded for that!!! read more
