I've been to Hidden Manna several times since moving to Matteson and the service & food has always been good - but I went last night and we waited 10 mins for the waitress to serve us, 20 mins for a quesadilla appetizer to come out, and then 50 minutes for a po' boy and a burger to come out. We finally had to ask for our entrees to be packed up to-go because we waited so long. While the waitress did give us a 10% discount off our bill, it was still a long, long wait. I know a po' boy and burger doesn't take 50 minutes to cook. AND.... the back half of the restaurant was EMPTY. I swear to Jeebus - the back half was completely empty - I know because I peered in on my way out of the door. C'mon.... restaurants are so limited in Matteson - I really like this place - I hope they step up their game. read more

I'm really done giving this restaurant a chance. They are pricey for no reason. Everything served in to-go style including dine in during covid. Not very pleased but it is what it is. I ordered a 3 cheese omelet for me and one for my son, and it came with bacon and hashbrowns. Their potatoes/hashbrowns were not fresh. They tasted microwaved or like reheated potatoes. I added a side of cheddar grits, where they only add cheese to the top- it's not added & cooked throughout. The bacon is also not fresh- id bet money its the bacon that you microwave too. Their bacon taste just like pork rinds and just looks like bacon and now for the eggs. My son mentioned how his omelet was missing cheese. I took a bite of my omelet and noticed something strange about my 3 cheese omelet. I couldn't taste any cheese at all. I cut my omelet open to find that yes, my 3 cheese omelet was indeed cooked with no cheese lol AND I found an egg shell ! I'm done! I have had it! To fix it, my waiter gave me a order of their shrimp pasta which was okay, I mean nothing special. Not more/better than a $8 plate, which they got going for $30-40. It did NOT fix my family brunch being ruined by overpaying for mediocre food. Our waiter was good. Thats it. Thanks Scott. But I'd probably try somewhere in the city or Flavor. Words really can't describe my experience from the moment I walked the through the doors of Hidden Manna Café to the moment I left. Friendly welcoming service (I felt like a member of the family) to the beautiful decor & lovely music to the delicious food. I was most impressed with the meat coming from a local butcher. I order the stuffed turkey burger (I chose pepper jack, spinach & mushrooms) and it was perfect. Why not 5-stars? Only because my fries were not perfect (they probably could have stay in the fryer for about 2 minutes longer) but I was to famished to since then back. Please check out Hidden Manna Café. A friend recommended this place so for my fiancee BIRTHDAY we decided to come. I loved the decor and our waitress was plesant. Her name escapes me at the moment. Anyway the first dish was the Shrimp and grits with chicken sausage,spicy. That's all it was,was spicy. No flavor,juicy shrimp creamy grits just bland and spicy. My guy had the seafood omelette and potatoes, bland also. I keep it simple with bacon and eggs with potatoes. I've had better and even though Paula the waitress was very sweet I would never make the drive for thei nur bland food. Food was good, I had a spinach omelette with salmon croquettes. Some of the best salmon croquettes I've ever had. The wait to get a table was about 40 minutes and the waiter was so busy that he didn't check on us as much. 2 hour wait for food! Will not be going back anytime soon!! Me and 2 friends met here for brunch on a Saturday at 1pm. When we got there, we waiting in the waiting room for about 20-30 minutes. Once we were seated, it took the waitress another 20 minutes or so to even come and take our orders. When she took our order, we mentioned that we were pretty hungry and asked if the food would be coming right up; she casually responded that shes telling people to allow 50-55mins for their food. We were not happy with that wait time but what could we do! An hour later, the waitress come to our table and offers us some soup. When the soup came, it was soooo salty that we couldnt even eat it. 2 hours later, our food finally arrives! The food was good but DEFINITELY not worth the wait. Don't get me wrong, the waitress was very nice and I felt bad for her because it was not her fault! She apologized for the wait but that was all! Went here for brunch and the service and food was TERRIBLE! Our server seemed to be having a bad day and it showed in her service. The food was horrible no flavor and wasn't cooked all the way. Spoke with the owner she had a rebuttal for everything and she wasn't too accommodating. When I told her about the service & server being terrible she said oh she isn't feeling well. I received a $20 off coupon for my birthday via email with no exclusions. I placed my order online and went to the establishment to pick it up. The server was having an issue ringing the coupon and went to the back which was by the kitchen to ask for assistance. Much to my dismay, a woman who just happened to be the owner hollered from the back " The only time people come in is when they are getting something free" I had to ask the clerk and the other guests did she really just say that. My son and I visit this establishment often and breakfast alone for us is over $40 because he likes that high priced Banana Fosters French Toast( which is good). I absolutely love this place. Definitely a hidden gem in the south suburbs. I have been 3 times within the span of a week. The first two times I got the "smothered" pork chops. It was AMAZING!!! My first set of sides were green beans and mashed potatoes and the second was mashed potatoes and corn. The option came with soup or salad. Next time I will pass on the salad and stick to soup. The chicken and rice soup was excellent. The desserts were beyond amazing. I ordered the banana pudding and Carmel pound cake. My third visit I got fried chicken. It was terrible. Here was no seasoning and "airy" when I bit the in. 10 dollars wasted. Needless to say I will go back. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is nice. The food was good, but the service was TERRIBLE. I ordered a sweet tea, the chicken and waffles and a fried green tomato appetizer. It took over 10 minutes for out actual server to come to the table (there were several servers walking between the dining rooms). When our server finally came it took an additional 5 minutes for her to bring water. When I told her we were on kind of a rush and asked if all of the food could come out together, she seemed to ignore me. When I asked if she heard me, because she never looked in my direction, she said she was waiting for her tablet to load. When the food came, we were pleasantly surprised. It was not as good as some other similarly designed restaurants, but it was good. Oh, and I never received the sweet tea I ordered. When we asked for the check, the waitress disappeared for a while l, then came back asking if we ever got the drinks we ordered. I told her no, and she continued to stare at the table, never looking at me, as if she were verifying my response. When I did give my debit card to pay, I noticed the waitress just set my card and receipt on a counter out of her view and mine. This is one hidden lil gem in matteson. There was live jazz music with a cool musician which created a nice atmosphere. I didn't like the fact that the lights weren't dimmed while we where there to further create an ambiance. The food was ok...I had a fried fish platter and my wife had the catfish grit cakes. My goodness, my goodness! I love this place! I've been here about 6 times and have always had delicious meals. Today I had the perch dinner with fried corn and spinach. The portions were large and I took home enough for another meal. For dessert, I had the caramel pound cake. I asked for a scoop of ice cream and the server came back with two large scoops for the price of one! My friend had the pork chops and said they were delicious. The owner came over, as she's done before, to ask if we were enjoying our meal. Come here - you will not be disappointed. This is the first time I've felt led to share my negative experience about a business. I just left this establishment and my food as well as the service provided was terrible. To start off, it took about 25mins before our food was brought to the table and we ordered breakfast. I ordered veggie omelette, hash browns with vegan sausages and pancakes. The pancakes and vegan sausages were hard and the hash browns were over cooked. In spite of the food being terrible that was not the worst thing. When I informed the waitress of the food, she had a very unpleasant disposition. Never any apologies. She simple just said what do you want to do? My response is you see how this looks right and she response was, ok again what do you wanna do? She then said do you wanna take it off your bill. I said yes, took the plate and only returned with the bill for my husbands food after I had to beckon her over to our table which was about 15 mins from the time she told my plate away. After our group of 7 waited over 30 minutes for seating, 45 minutes at the table without the appearance of a server and insulting responses to our efforts to be acknowledged by the wait staff, our party of 60+ seniors were in utter dismay and dissappointment at the experience. We received more attention from the other diners who were so complimentary of our 'friendship' attire and camaraderie. To the 2 servers, we were not only invisible, but an added intrusion into their flow and space. This quaint house-converted restaurant gave the illusion of the intimacy of a home kitchen, where your anticipation alone could fill you up. Instead, our entree was air and attitudes. I had the Banana Foster French toast with turkey bacon the French toast was so good I forgot all about the bacon . At one point I was a regular lunch goer... however, today, I ordered vegetable soup after I inquired of the meat content because I am a vegetarian. Upon arrival, during my break, I was told the vegetable soup contained meat. Upon leaving the establishment, without any lunch, I decided to call to bring this matter to the attention of the manager. After explaining the situation, the manager never rendered an apology nor regret for their mistake; however, attention was brought to my tone of voice then she hung up in my face. Ofcourse, I called back and asked again for the manager, but the individual who answered stated he was the owner and the husband of the manager. He too was grossly unprofessional and never once rendered an apology or a solution to my problem, but mentioned my tone of voice (which was now agitated for good reason). Afterwards, I kindly told him good-bye, because I refused to be as rude as his wife; however, it was not before I stated I would never enter this unprofessionally managed establishment ever again. The place is so neat, our server and the owners are really genuine and personable. OMG! Blessings to the owners/cook for serving an amazing food! I can't wait to comeback and try more on their menu. We're giving them five stars, but the seating hostess almost cause a downgrade. With her being the first-introduction/ person you meet, she was not welcoming. She was curt, not smiling, appearing as if she didn't want to be there. Bad attitude. Almost left, but thankfully she was an anomaly.
