The restaurant was very clean. The dining room was welcoming. I ordered the smothered white chicken with green beans, greens and a side of macaroni. All my side dishes meet or exceeded my expectations. However the smothered chicken gravy was undercooked so it tasted like uncooked flour. I returned the chicken and replaced the order with meatloaf. I wasn't impressed with the meatloaf. They gave me two pieces of meatloaf with barbecue sauce. Also the meatloaf wasn't soft and juicy. The meatloaf is traditionally made with tomato sauce or paste. Overall I left hungry and very disappointed with my meal. The last item I feel was not inline with the area is the meal price $23.14.

Yummy collard greens, spaghetti, baked chicken and cornbread bread muffin

It was a Saturday afternoon and I was heading home from visiting a friend in Chicago and I was in the mood for some good down home cooking and the Good Life Cafe was suggested by my sister. We ordered the jerk chicken, baked chicken, spaghetti collard greens and yams. Everything I tasted was seasoned well and delicious but the star of this show was the collard greens, candied yams and baked bone in chicken. Cornbread muffins came with the order and that cornbread was devoured instantly it was exceptional! I ordered my food to go because the inside of the restaurant was nothing to write home about so I kept it moving. They could improve on their customer service skills because when I sampled the food and asked for a spoon she pointed at the counter instead of communicating to me that they were on the other counter. I'm returning to try the fried catfish it wasn't on the menu at the time I ordered. Overall great food at a reasonable price.

The only thing edible was the meatloaf

The hostess was insightful and inviting, like eating at someone's house who loves you. Outside of all of that the Mediterranean lamb was phenomenal. As someone who has eaten lamb in the Middle East this was delightful, with the rice and flavorful kale it's a wonderful bite full. Large serving sizes...and that grilled pound cake lawd

Music is pretty loud in this small space. We decided on the 3 entrees for 69.00 with a glass of wine. We chose the pepper steak, smothered chicken, orange chicken, catfish and spaghetti, and the bbq catfish. Overall the food was ok., The bbq fish was a little to fishy and the smothered chicken was heavily salted. The star of our 6 dishes was the fried piece of catfish. The food came out quickly but nothing was piping hot. The server was OK as well, he did exactly what we expect of a server nothing more nothing less. I will say next time I would take the drive to the West side location, to me the food choices are better as well as the service.
