They surely have the best bread ever ...and yes, service is slow and when you get your supposed warmed up baked goods; maybe they will be maybe they won't. Make sure that they keep an eye on your order so it comes out to your liking and not overly crisped or singed.. It is a bit haphazard there but still worth the price of admission. It is tucked behind a big restaurant (Mazzos) and you do not see it from the street. I went on weekday and it was a tad busyish so I can imagine the crowd on the weekend. My Airbnb host says it's over the top busy when the sun is out. It's in a stretch of town that is out and away from town center. So if a place offers a superior product, they will come...simple as that. This place strives for this and it is a super duper place for breakfast, breads and morning sweets. The selection is fantastic and I would be surprised if you didn't think the same. There is one situation. The indoor part is dark and depressing. It doesn't fit and needs "bakery style" updated. It look like a part of the old restaurant attached. The place is grimy dirty; look at the doors and around. When I was there for my third visit I sat inside cause of the rain and there was crumbs and food stuff all over the floor. It appears that they don't keep up appearances. The internet was not working. It took a suggestion of two people to put a sign on the door....they put it on the tip jar. We were both wondering why we couldn't access out laptops. Fantastic baked goods and food! What a sweet gem this is. Tucked away in an industrial/corporate office section of Eugene, one would never discover this sweet cafe with outside patio seating complete with Tibetan prayer flags flying overhead. Service is friendly but oh-so-slow. The line up area to order food is not the most efficient but it does work. Outside seating space is fantastic with ample parking. Let Me Take You Down To YUPPIE Town This place is only for the young and fit. I'm not usually on this side of town, but today I was, and I thought I'd stop by and pick up a few pastries and a coffee to take home. I had eaten here a few times a couple years ago and even though I remembered it being way over-priced for what you get, the food had tasted good, looked healthy, and the coffee was strong. Well, today I can't tell you if that is still the case, because I left before I could be further injured by an inconsiderate, thoughtless employee. Two ladies had entered before me and held the door, which I took and was leaning on when a young woman employee in a rush to get back to the cash register, pulled it out from behind me causing me to lose my balance and almost fall. Luckily for me, I didn't fall, but it did cause my bad hip and knee to go out, and now they really hurt! She quickly said she was in a rush and ran to "man her station" behind the cash register. I turned around and exited, and then had to deal with their crazy tiny parking lot. I will NEVER return here, and if you are over 50 (unless you're in fabulous shape), and or disabled, you should really consider going somewhere else that is more friendly to the less physically able. At Hideaway they are just "oh so glad to take your money," but never see you as a person. read more

Hideaway Bakery is probably one of the best bakeries to go to for breakfast in EUG. The pastries are very good, but every other time I come, the pastry dough isn't cooked all the way through. There are also quite a few flies in this bakery that tend to fly from pastry to pastry. The coffee is pretty good, I prefer to get the Lavender infused latte with Almond milk, because there coffee is a little bitter/tangy and the lavender really enhances the good coffee flavors that aren't so apparent. I love coming here for breakfast, and the small complaints I have, have nothing on the great food, vibe and customer service. read more

I love the Hideaway Bakery so much that I almost don't want to review it, for fear it will become even more popular than it already is. Great atmosphere: the outdoor patio perfect for warm, sunny days, and indoor seating with fireplace a cozy respite from cold, damp weather. The Parisian bfast sammie (egg & cheese on croissant, yowzas), tempeh reuben and vegetarian lasagna are all outstanding, but I doubt you can go wrong with anything on their menu. Their mochas are always spot-on, which I can't say of any other place in Eugene. I'm not even remotely gluten-free and yet find their gluten-free bread delicious. Summer pizza nights on the patio are fantastic, although the way-too-loud music makes conversation difficult. Sometimes the food takes a while, often folks stand too close in line, occasionally an order is forgotten, but none of this is enough to take away any stars. For cozy & delicious, the Hideaway has my vote! read more

The Hideaway Bakery is a great little neighborhood bakery and coffee shop. There's a nice outdoor covered patio area with maybe a dozen tables as well as a separate indoor "fireside room" with 8 tables. Free WiFi is available and it's a great place to get a little work done on quiet days. On other days, the small inside room with no music is filled with people talking and noisy kids so it's kind of hit or miss. The bakery features a large wood-fired oven and they make some excellent breads, muffins, scones, coffee cakes, etc. The vegan options aren't bad with a vegan cranberry scone being the best offering IMO. There's vegan banana bread, bran muffin and cupcake. Of course many of the breads are also vegan and they make a grilled tempeh sandwich that's vegan. Their espresso is fairly good but not the best and it can vary a good bit depending on the barista. Still, because of the friendly and pleasant atmosphere it's one of my favorite coffee shops in town to meet a friend to talk for an hour or catch up on work with my laptop. I'd love to see the Hideaway Bakery expand their vegan baked good options or at least rotate different things on different days. Every time I see the sticky bun or berry coffee cake I wish they made a vegan version. It's not hard to do and nobody would miss the milk and eggs. I also wish they would play music in the fireside room. Some mellow jazz would fit the fireside atmosphere and provide a bit of an audio buffer. read more

Ever since starting school here in Eugene I have been on the hunt to find the hidden gems of the city. One day casually strolling around amazon park I notice the small sign under Mazzi's restaurant informing me of a saturday market from 9-2pm behind the restaurant and then right below that is the sign for the hideaway bakery. Shocked that I have never noticed this sign before I decided that it would be my next destination for my weekend treat. I am so glad I noticed it because it sure it a hidden gem, and hidden. The food selection isn't large but fresh, many vegan options, healthy and delightfully tasteful. I ordered the wrap-less burrito for my breakfast with a small coffee and a potato doughnut hole. I must say everything was great! The doughnut hole was consumed within seconds, which too my surprise was not dense but light and perfectly sweetened to accompany my coffee. My wrap-less burrito was everything I could hope for in a breakfast. Full of flavor and wasn't too big where I had to unbutton my pants afterward. My friend got a breakfast sandwich on artisan bread... my mouth is watering thinking of it.. it was that good. I will be back! read more

Excellent morning with friends for a new baby end of summer meeting place! The bakery was bustling with people, the outdoor patio was packed with friends and families enjoying the end of summer sunshine. We enjoyed a tea and coffee, both were delicious and relaxing. We also shared a cinnamon roll, tasty although a little on the sweet side for me. The kids each had a chocolate raspberry cupcake, I tried a bite. It was a nice blend of sweet with tangy. Delicious. Hideaway is nice too because they have a sandbox to cater to the young children and mothers who can meet there and relax, knowing that their children will be entertained. They have the silverware available outside on the patio and they can pass you your order through the window, which in crowded days like today was extremely helpful to not have to weave back through the line with a hot cup of tea. I came here many times for brunch or coffee and pastry. Unfortunately, the quality has gone down in a major way. The last time we had brunch here the dishes came cold and almost heated up. As if they're laying around and not fresh. Baked goods felt old as well. Staff not very friendly. Did I go to the wrong Hideaway? I heard and read such great things. Not sure what to say. The service was okay. We were told that our mochas were "on the shelf" and we could go and get them. Which was weird considering she walked all the way over to us to say it. Maybe they were confused about what a mocha is? It really just tasted like half regular coffee and half steamed milk. (I am generally easy going with mochas) We also ordered a tempeh sandwich and a veggie burrito. The veggie burrito: I guess the only thing missing from the burrito was flavor. For how it looked, packed full of fresh ingredients, it was pretty bland. And the salsa was insulting- a small dish of tomato puree with a dash of tobasco. I could have drank it straight, and I typically struggle with medium salsa. The Tempeh sandwich: The tempeh was not marinated, seasoned, dusted, sprinkled or allowed to touch anything that resembled flavor or moisture. it was dry and tasteless. There was some slaw in the sandwich that was decent. It came with a side of undressed field greens. Althought I have to say it came on some really good bread. We did have a cookie that was good. Peanut butter chunk. The atmosphere was okay. We started out indoors, but I felt like I was in a study hall. It was totally silent. I place no blame on the establishment for this. I didn't want to bother anybody, so we went out side which was much better. There were overhead radiant heaters that felt pretty good on a 50 degree day. But there was sand all over the table from the kids sand pit play area. I think they are great for using organic ingredients and being green, but overall, I have a real hard time giving this place a good review. For the price and atmosphere, it was just not that enjoyable. Sad, I really wanted to like it. Maybe one day I will try it again to see if it was just a bad day. read more

Great local place. The bread and pastries are very impressive and tasty. The only problem really is the service. Getting our coffee drinks took too long, and as I watched other customers, they felt the same as well. There is a service "window" outside where they yell out your coffee/drink order when it's ready, and it definitely just has an unfriendly, factory vibe to it which contradicts what they are really going for here. Service definitely needs to be a bit more friendly to customers. Food is good, just don't have high expectations for service. read more

I have been here a handful of times, each time hoping for a better experience. I think now I will just learn my lesson. If it weren't for the ridiculous wait times (45 minutes to get a sandwich or 20 minutes to get a latte), or flies all over the bakery landing on all the breads, or loads of fruit flies all up in my soup, I'd probably give this place a 5 rating. The vibe is cool, the desserts look beautiful, and their Orange Cardamom Pinwheels are to-die-for! I do think it's a little unreasonable for coffee drinks to take so long to make - literally 20 minutes. Perhaps they need to work on their systems. Not sure. Not so hideaway anymore. I discovered Hideaway last summer, it quickly became my sister, & my favorite place to spend a sunny Saturday morning. Our children would play in the sandbox while we slipped coffee and shared delectable pastries. I love the blueberry vessels, carrot agave muffins, the hazelnut pinwheels, I could go on. Everything I've eaten has been delicious. I have a had a disappointing sand-which or two though just because they don't put in enough ingredients to make them filling. Over the weekend I stopped by my favorite little spot, to find they had added a whole breakfast menu. I got a breakfast burrito, my friend got the potato & egg plate. Both dishes were really good. I also ordered a sticky bun, it was hard & dry I brought it back in the kitchen and they very sweetly replaced it with a much fresher tasting bun. I was really disappointed how busy they were. It is no longer my quite little spot. Which is good for them, but I think they need to make some adjustments. I could overhear several other tables complaining about how long the service was taking. The staff seemed to stay pretty friendly in spite of all the complaining. I do have to agree with some of the other reviewers about the "window service", they are often cold, and seem really bother if you ask them for anything. read more

But moving on to the cafe - the food (sandwiches and salads) are OK, definitely the accompanying breads are great, but not worth the expensive prices coupled with the small portions. I love this place. The sandbox, cinnamon pastry rolls, scones, potato doughnuts, great mochas, all in a lovely outdoor/indoor setting. My kids adore the sandbox and sitting by the indoor fireplace on a cold day. This is a fantastic place to enjoy pastries and catch up with people you run into. I always have great conversations with people I know and people I've just met. Hideaway feels like a real neighborhood place with terrific local & organic food made by people who care.
