I was remarking to a member of my running group that I've probably driven past this place a million times and never noticed it was there. I'm not sure what I imagined it being. A Kinkos? Some place where I could print off copies of my zine about protecting the environment by committing minor acts of terrorism in America's forests? Turns out, it's a place where you can listen to truly random vinyl records while eating burritos entirely too good to be available in Clayton. Nothing about the latter says this part of town except for the price, which is almost like someone's cruel idea of a joke. I'd suggest that they're the best breakfast burritos available anywhere in the area, but what do I know? I've been eating breakfast burritos since the Reagan administration, when they were invented (as far as I know), but mostly of the microwavable variety. They have the potential to be the best food possible, because they combine the two other best foods, breakfast sandwiches and Mexican food, but no one seems to put any real effort into them. They're less likely than their lunch/dinner counterpart to cause gastrointestinal distress. People suspect that the reason Chipotle gives you the runs roughly every third time you visit is because of the cilantro, which is impossible to wash, but I heard it's really the lettuce. Never get lettuce on a burrito from Chipotle. If you're getting one of those bowls, why are you even going to Chipotle? You're probably already fat, and not eating a tortilla is not going to make a difference. But I digress. Upshot is primarily a coffee shop, and I think it's generally well regarded as far as that's concerned, though I'm no expert. I drink a nice, stiff six cups or so of whatever's on sale first thing in the morning and it usually ends up being the highlight of my day. I don't need any coffee in addition to that. I might get nervous. I've had luck lately with the seasonal selections at other local coffee shops that I've visited, so I figured I'd take my chances with an iced strawberry matcha latte. It seemed like it would be nice and refreshing after getting in a few miles with the homies, and damn it if it didn't hit the spot. You could see the actual seeds in it from where they must have crushed up an actual strawberry to make it, thus justifying the price, at least as far as they're concerned. They spared no expense with the burrito either. It's filled with surprisingly large chunks of bacon and avocado. Can they afford to give you more bacon because they don't cook it to the point where it starts to shrink? I like it when it's still kinda chewy, but I'm sure many would beg to differ. That must be how bacon is served in Clayton. They don't have the lovable old James bring it out to you, but I can understand, with this being 2026. It's not the lengthiest tortilla in the world, but it's stuffed to nearly overflowing with eggs, cheese, potatoes and what have you. I'd suggest bringing a date just to see if she could wrap her lips around it, but who's got that kind of money? It would have to be someone you've already been out with a few times, who's with the program, so to speak. read more

This location is built around a vinyl record/hifi music concept so music is a huge part of the experience. Coffee is pretty consistent (similar to the other locations) with seasonal drinks and house-made syrups. I believe the food options are the same as well although I didn't try any at this location. Stylish, cozy, and trendy. Great for casual hangs or solo coffee runs (music can be loud though). read more

The parking can be a little tricky and seating is limited, but if you're lucky enough to get a spot, it can be a really relaxing place to hang out or get work done. The vibe is lively, and they always have the best beats playing on the record player, which makes the experience even better. The staff is always so sweet whenever I visit, too. I've tried their iced matcha and hot chai, both are okay, but I definitely love their pastries more. Overall, a great stop if you're in Clayton. read more

Had a great experience at HiFi - Upshot! I didn't get a chance to snap a photo inside because it was busy but the vibe is definitely inspired by music and old records. It was a great atmosphere. There is limited seating but I was able to snag a seat outside on this unseasonably warm day in December. The staff was very welcoming and friendly and offered some suggestions on food. I ended up going with the original croffle (croissant waffle) and was not disappointed. My golden milk latte was also the perfect flavor. I was so excited to try out this new coffee shop in the Clayton area. I have seen many pictures of HiFi - Upshot and I could tell even before coming there that the vibe was going to be dope. I went on a Friday morning and it was popping in the shop. The energy was so vibrant matching with the aesthetic of the coffee shop. You can definitely work here too but it's not your typical co-op working coffee shop so don't expect to take your meeting calls. I ordered the cardamom tonic and it was so refreshing, perfect for a hot summer day. It's a harmonious combo of cold brew, orange juice and sparkling water. I also got a bagel and cream cheese and it was yummy as well. They have a side parking lot behind the building in the neighborhood but it's a bit limited so you can either do meters or street parking in the neighborhood. Watch out for the resident/permit only parking signs. Overall, I do enjoy my experience here a lot and I will return. read more

Pretty cool cafe here- when I walked in they were playing music from a Japanese vinyl and the vibe was great. There were a few people here and there studying and working with their drinks and the staff made sure everyone there was comfortable while they were working. I was greeted with a lot of enthusiasm when I walked in and I tested out a few of their drinks while I was there. The matcha cloud was awesome- I've never thought to put coconut water in my matcha so that was a unique surprise. They have a few other drinks on their menu that looked fun too! I saw this place come across my feed and after taking a look at the website, knew it was something I wanted to see in person. I decided to stop here omw to church. I received a warm greeting whilst walking in. The place is smaller than imagined but cozy. After seeing how good their breakfast sandwiches looked, I decided to get the classic and a chocolate chip banana oat cookie. There was one person ahead of me who was waiting on her food, so I assumed it wouldn't be too long of a wait. All of a sudden, a rush of people came in with their dogs. Don't get me wrong, while I love animals, it probably wasn't ideal to have them in such a small place, especially with tables their height. It didn't help once they started barking. After a while, I finally got my food. I was a bit disappointed with my sandwich. While the taste was great, overall, it was much smaller than pictured. Additionally, it was a weird contrast tasting a semi-warm egg to a cold avocado. It would have been nice if everything were the same temperature. As for the cookie, I have mixed reviews. Unfortunately, the cinnamon and oats overpowered whatever chocolate was supposed to be in the cookie. I feel like I tasted everything but the chocolate and the chocolate chip is supposed to be the best part. I've been coming since they've first opened not too long ago and everything about this place has been wonderful! The staff is always so friendly and the music always on point. I absolutely LOVE their avocado toast, it has a crunchy chili oil that makes it so unique and the flavors mesh so well. I'm also a big fan of all the fun flavors you can add to your latte as well! Cute coffeeshop and in a great, walkable location, just off the Centennial Greenway from Olive to Shaw Park. I loved my London Fog, and they had my boyfriend's favorite milk alternative, almond milk. It's small inside, but they've got a really cool vibe inside and the barista was very friendly. I'd say pricing is in line with other coffee shops in the area. There's no parking, but you can park in the plaza with The Pasta House and The Original House of Pancakes for free for a very short walk to the coffeeshop. My only complaint is the music seemed a bit loud when we came in and I wish they had couches or armchairs to match the cozy music vibe better. If they had comfier seating, I think I'd be more likely to stay a while and enjoy my coffee, compared to the metal seating options now. Overall, I'll definitely come back and interested trying some of their food offerings! read more

Great coffee and service! I ordered an iced Oatmilk latte and it was delicious. Staff was pleasant and approachable, quite helpful. The spot itself is vibey and quaint, good music playing and lots of natural light. I stopped here in between meetings to take some zoom calls and the internet wasn't the strongest, I was unable to take my calls. I also only had one bar (totally not the coffee shops fault) so taking calls wasn't in my cards for the visit. I'm not sure if it's like that all of the time or was just a glitch. Okay, this place is phenomenal. I'm not going to lie, I was cautiously optimistic about this place. But boy was I wrong! Upon my entry, the staff were quick to greet me and asked if I needed any help. I told them no, as I had already checked the menu out online, and they left me alone. Nothing worse than a hovering cashier waiting for you to just order and move on. I felt like they were happy to help if I needed anything. Anyway... The vanilla latte I had was WONDERFUL. My drive home from this shop was 10 min, the coffee was gone by then because I couldn't take my mouth away from it. The best part though, was the breakfast burrito. It should be illegal for it to be as good as it was. The only thing I feel like it needed was a salsa. Otherwise WOW! I will 100% be back here. read more

Great vibes all around! A clean storefront with great lighting. The vinyl ambiance is a nice touch. The Kyoto cold brew is fantastic and is the first place in St Louis that I found it. I would highly recommend. I also bought some fresh beans to home brew. As for the food, I felt the bagel sandwich was slightly overpriced and the tomatoes were a bit tough as the slices were just of the outside boarder and a tad unripened. The avo, tots, pico, and crema all worked well together, and the melted cheese on the tortilla was a great touch. Only feedback would be to crisp up the bacon a bit more and this thing is unbeatable. The other downside is that there is only paid street parking. There's a mini mall w free parking down the street. (I have been twice and tried at least 4 different drinks.) This is a tough one. After a lot of back and forth I'll go with 5 stars and start with my complaints, rather than 4 and my compliments. This place is very pricey. Rotating drip I think was at least $4, and I think a single origin cortado cost $5, both plus tax...and it wasn't even single origin, but rather a special blend. Cold brew was $5, although the menu said $4.50. Barista said it was a mistake, but still charged the higher price, and they had only been open two weeks, so a price increase already seemed weird. And while it is a comfortable place to hang out, with the turntables and records a nice touch, would have liked it to be a little more coffeeshop cozy. Finally, I waited for a while while the barista caught up with a friend one day, which is usually fine, but felt like it was a little overboard in this instance. That said, I loved the coffee and, even though I don't even live in St. Louis. I am so thankful to have a great specialty coffeeshop in that area. Previously, I felt like I had to go all the way to Soulard to Goshen for coffee of this quality in St. Louis. The Kyoto cold brew was the best I have ever had. It was the best of the coffee without the overwhelming qualities Kyoto sometimes has. The normal cold brew was also good. I had a drip coffee, kenyan, that was outstanding as well. This place is so wonderful. The coffee is delicious, I like to add their housemate syrups in my lattes. My favorite food item is the croffle, absolutely insane and decadent. The whole staff has been incredibly kind and accommodating. Especially Xander, really nice guy! Being very into audio and collecting records myself, this place just keeps getting better. The sound is very warm and inviting from their turntable and vintage speaker setup. Really adds to the comfort and vibrancy that people bring to this coffee shop. read more

In my top 5 of local coffee places. Not a great spot for a meeting (Miss the old Northwest Coffee that was here) since it's loud and often crowded. However, I like picking up to-go and their syrups are great. Wish they had more vegan desserts. read more

Not that we make it out there often living in the city, but we really do love upshot in St Charles! Is such a cute vibe! Was excited to hear they had a location closer to me. Sadly, it's just not quite the same. Let me preface the coffee is still great! Also, we didn't eat but the food that was coming out all looked fantastic. Hifi however is a record/vinyl themed coffee shop. While I love music, having it blaring while I'm having coffee and trying to wake up isn't really for me. The place is very small, and was packed when we went too. So, it was just overall very loud in there. Just personal preference that I want a bit more of a relaxing environment in the morning. I do very much want tol go back to try the food. Hopefully at a time it's a bit slower and chill. read more
