She was knowledgeable about both the menu and the wine selections, and her recommendations were very helpful. The food was outstanding! The pastrami sandwich was delicious, but the real star was the pretzel bread--it was incredibly soft, pillowy, and flavorful. Every bite was amazing. I really enjoyed this experience as we were enclosed with a great big greenhouse above us and the outdoor area leading to the nursery. This place can get busy during the lunch hours but we were seated quickly and the host was so kind. Our server was also very kind and made sure we had plenty of time to review the menu. He kept checking on us and answered our questions. The food was delicious. I ate all of my sandwich and per my server's recommendation, I got the potato salad instead of the pasta salad. This potato salad was SO GOOD! I ate all of it and enjoyed every bite. When I go back, I would like to try a dessert. There was just no room today. Overall, this place is worth checking out! Visited here with family to browse the nursery and have a nice meal. We waited not too long in line to be seated and our server was very attentive and accommodating. We ordered Fish Tacos, Prime Rib Sandwich, Chicken Cider Sandwich and Peach Salad. Each dish was very good, my fish tacos were stacked with perfectly grilled fish and the sauce was very delicious. The side salad and potatoe salad was also satisfactory. We enjoyed our meal and the experience but found the price rather high for the value. $19 for a simple peach salad seemed rather steep and the portion was not very large. Overall, this is worth checking out as the venue is very nice and the food quite good but I'm not sure if I would come back as the price tag is rather high. read more

Recently saw photos of this place all over social media and knew it had to go on the list. Being that it was our first time I was so nervous about if you needed a reservation and how busy they would be. They were able to get us a table outside under the heating lamps in about a half hour. The food was fresh, flavorful and hot! I got the Smoked Brisket Hash with a side buttermilk biscuit and the seasonal spritz to drink. My date got to the banana bread french toast. I enjoyed my meal and the date enjoyed theirs as well. Staff were super friendly, they answered questions as well as made recommendations. Next time I would like to get there earlier or make a reservation as to sit inside. I did notice outside they had a counter top and stools where they do wood fired pizza, and would like to try that sometime too. The aesthetics here are gorgeous. It is nestled in high hand nursery and the live plants really do make the restaurant beautiful. I came on a busy weekend and waited 40 minutes for a table. It didn't feel that long because I was able to browse for a new plant while waiting. I had the pretzel 9/10. The beer cheese wasn't as strong as I would have liked it but it tasted delish. The High Hand grounds include a full plant nursery, boutique shops, an art gallery, a brewery, and the cafe itself, so it's not just a meal, it's an experience. I ordered from the lunch menu and had the tri-tip sandwich, cooked perfectly with a buttery, smoky flavor balanced by avocado and a rich bleu cheese sauce. Every bite delivered and the portion was adequate. We started with mesquite chips and artichoke dip, which were absolutely delicious. But the true star of the meal was the house-made potato salad. It had dill and sweet pickles folded into a perfectly seasoned potato slaw. I'll definitely be back to try their brunch and explore more of the lunch menu. The wait was about 40 minutes, but there's so much to see while you wait. When your table is ready, they text you, which makes it easy to explore the grounds without hovering around the host stand. I'm giving this three stars mainly because of the front-of-house experience. We came for Sunday brunch and were quoted a 1-1.5 hr wait, which we were fine with. However, the hostess's attitude made the wait frustrating. She gave vague answers while looking visibly annoyed, avoided eye contact, and often sighed or rolled her eyes when guests asked about wait times. After the initial 1.5 hours had passed, someone from our group checked in and she sounded irritated just being asked for an update. We also had a child scrape his hand, and while I thought about asking for a Band-Aid, watching her interact with other guests made it clear it probably wasn't worth it, so we went back to our car for first aid. I understand it was a very busy day, but this is the first interaction guests have, and it really sets the tone of the rest of the meal. Once we were seated, the experience improved significantly. The setting is lovely, with gardens, a greenhouse, and a koi pond that makes waiting more enjoyable. The servers were friendly and helpful, made good recommendations, and everyone in our group enjoyed their food. Drinks were delicious too. Overall, the food, service, and atmosphere were excellent, but the hostess experience was disappointing enough to bring the rating down. First time at High Hand Café and I'm really glad we made a reservation for a Saturday morning at 9am because this place gets packed. Parking was easy, but finding the café was part of the experience since you walk through the nursery before reaching the restaurant. The hostess greeted us right away and service was excellent from start to finish. We had the breakfast burrito and eggs Benedict. I ordered the garden Benedict and added bacon, which was a great call. The Benedict was good. The burritos were decent, probably around a 3.5 out of 5, but the potatoes were solid. Espresso was exactly what you would expect, simple and well done. The ambience is what really makes this place special. It feels like you are dining inside a bright, open greenhouse surrounded by plants and flowers. Tons of natural light, greenery everywhere, and just a really cool, relaxed vibe. Easily one of the more unique cafés in the Placer County area. After eating we walked around the nursery, which has a koi pond, beautiful plants, a great succulent selection, and a few little shops tucked throughout. After being floored by the gorgeous flowers and plants in the nursery, we stumbled upon the café. We were greeted promptly, seated quickly, and enjoyed their beautiful outdoor patio. Most had reservations and further reservations for the day were closed. We were in the check in line and seated within 10 minutes. William took excellent care of our table. We quickly determined a return visit (with more friends) was a mandatory. I ordered the Blackberry lemonade and the peach salad with salmon. Absolutely delicious! The salmon had a beautiful sear and the blood orange vinaigrette is worth writing home about..oh my goodness! My friend wanted to try the peach cobbler so we ordered one to share, assuming it would be a dessert portion...wrong! Easily shareable for two (as in two sizable dessert portions) and served with ice cream. Some of the peaches were tart which I'm unfamiliar with in a cobbler, and the crust was a mix of crust and crumble, which I'm also unfamiliar with. Food was good, don't get me wrong, but not worth all the hype surrounding the tons of egg benedict reviews and at the price point compared to others similar. We've had much better egg benedict worth around the same price, if not cheaper. Was also shocked when pancakes for $17 only included 2 pancakes, not even blueberry pancakes were available per our server. Pancakes were medicore.. we've had better from mom and pops breakfast joints. Breakfast burrito was subpar compared to other Mexican spots. Crab cakes were decent, but not anything special nor at the level of other steakhouses at the same price point. This eatery is wonderful for any occasion if you're looking for gorgeuous surroundings, especially with incredible greenery all around. Just don't expect much from the food. We were told the wild hibiscus sparkler was popular and tasty so we went with it instead of the classic mimosas. We beg to differ.. should've stuck to the original plan with mimosas! What a fun location. The setting is just lovely and the food extraordinary! I had the shrimp salad and loved every bite! My girlfriend's meals were just as wonderful. The location is perfect for a girls get-together and where else can you also stroll thru the nursery to find unusual plants to fill in your gardens. I found String of Turtles! Never heard of this darling plant but it's thriving near my String of Pearls now! We were seated right by a Christmas tree and had ample space and privacy for our conversation/catch up lunch! The crust was good but the flavor was not there so we asked for balsamic vinegar and that did help a bit. Someone got the salmon bowl and loved it. I want to start by saying that we've been coming to this establishment for many years, which makes it even more disappointing to see it continue to decline with each visit. When we arrived, we were seated quickly with no reservation and no wait, which was the highlight of the experience. Unfortunately, everything went downhill from there. Our server introduced himself, but communication was difficult throughout the meal. We ordered drinks and asked for a few minutes to review the menu. When we asked what the soup of the day was, he initially told us clam chowder, then immediately said he needed to go find out. More than 10 minutes later, he returned, and when we asked again, he admitted he had forgotten and left once more. After another lengthy wait, he finally informed us the soup of the day was split pea. We then attempted to order a pizza and were told that pizzas could not be ordered until 10:30 a.m. At the time, it was only around 9:30 a.m. I decided to order the Peach & Prosciutto Flatbread appetizer instead, only to be told that couldn't be ordered either because it was made in the oven. None of this was communicated when we were first seated, nor was it noted on the menu. It makes little sense to open at 9:00 a.m. while offering guests a menu containing multiple items that aren't actually available for another hour and a half. Had this been clearly explained from the beginning, it would have saved a great deal of frustration. By this point, I was hot, irritated, and no longer interested in ordering food. Had we not already received our drinks, I likely would have left. The other members of our party ordered the $21 breakfast burrito and the $25 smoked prime rib sandwich. Both were extremely mediocre for the price. The burrito was wrapped in a corn tortilla rather than a flour tortilla, had already come unrolled, and quickly became a messy, difficult to eat disaster. The prime rib sandwich was served on very dry bread and lacked flavor. Neither dish justified the premium pricing. The dining environment was equally disappointing, there were flies everywhere. We spent much of the meal swatting flies away from our food and ourselves, making it nearly impossible to relax or enjoy the experience. Management should seriously consider addressing this issue with proper fly traps or Quikstrike. After our food arrived, our server never returned to check on us, ask how the meal was, or offer water refills. When the bill was finally brought out, we waited another 10+ minutes before he returned to process payment. By then, we simply wanted to leave. What was most noticeable was how many people were waiting for tables while service moved at an incredibly slow pace. Faster, more attentive service would have allowed tables to turn over more efficiently and reduced wait times for other guests. Overall, this was one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've had here. Between the poor communication, lack of attentiveness, unavailable menu items, mediocre food, uncomfortable dining conditions, and excessive wait times, the value simply isn't there anymore. We left feeling frustrated and disappointed. The service we received warranted a $0 tip, and for the first time, we're questioning whether we'll ever return. read more

I gave my "EXPERIENCE" here a perfect rating because of just a lot of different aspects despite the food not necessarily as good as the overall rating. With that said, just the vibes ambiance location gets 5 star. You want to impress someone from out of town and this is a nice place to do so. Has some hallmark vibes. Just to even getting here driving through a bit of small town Loomis. Has all that charm, feels, and as mentioned--the Hallmark feels. Before or after you eat you can walk the grounds that has the garden area, or inside the rest of the High Hand grounds. So quite an experience all on its own. The staff has always been great the few times we've dined here. Always nice and attentive. The food is a bit pricey for brunch affair and portion. BUT the quality feels above standard more affordable diner fare. Also the menu is not overwhelming. The pizzas are high quality and are wood fired in those stone ovens. It was everything you could imagine, and more. We have not stopped craving it since. After a delicious brunch, we went back to the nursery to find a multi-colored lantana. It was about 3:45 pm, and we started getting rushed by nursery employees. We were confused because it was so early in the afternoon. Well, unbeknownst to us, they close at 4pm! They told us they would keep a register open for us, so we requested help to find a multi-colored lantana. After we secured our plant we hurried back to the cashier, but were told by an employee that it was too plate to complete our purchase. We were confused, because minutes earlier we were told they'd hold a cashier open for us. We thought we'd go to the register to make sure, and she was in fact waiting for us. We checked out at 3:59 pm, and all was good in the world. Just know if you plan to visit, their hours are: Mon-Sat 9am-5pm; Sun 9am-4pm. Next time we visit (and we will visit again for both pants, and brunch), we will plan accordingly, because it takes a couple hours to browse their indoor and outdoor plant inventory. read more

The restaurant is located IN a working nursery) Outdoor pizza bar is also an option to waiting. Easy to find in Loomis with MUCH improved parking; this is a Destination! Families enjoy it and are generally well behaved. They love the fish! Food and beverages are ALL beautifully prepared and served by friendly people. (Can be noisy for those with hearing. The staff was very nice and attentive from the moment we walked in. My pomegranate mimosa hit the spot. And since it was our first visit, my table mates and I shared everything so we could sample more from the menu. We started with the Oktoberfest pretzel...the texture and taste of the pretzel was amazing but we thought the beer cheese was a little bland.
