This is our favorite orchard to visit at Apple Hill. They have good Apple donuts which we love to get each time we come. They also have a small restaurant on the property where you can enjoy some food and sit either inside or on the patio and enjoy the gorgeous views. read more

I'd recommend skipping the frozen take home apple pie. We baked it according to the package instructions, but it turned out very soggy. The filling released a ton of liquid causing the crust to be wet and mushy. The apples were swimming in puddles of juice. The flavor was also underwhelming. My crew and I always come to High Hill in October. For me its the smells, colors, that kick off the Harvest season. They have pony rides, a little grocery store for produce , sauces, and gifts . Another line was quite long but moved quickly for doughnuts. I was surprisingly shocked that the place was still packed dispite the Pandemic‍ Great for the Apple Farm Community but tough to enforce the 6ft thing . Listen Up Be sure to wear Good Shoes! The area was relatively wet so I headed to the picnic benches trying to look for a seat. It was packed and none were available. I was just about to walk down a hill to the other side of the pond and SERIOUSLY by the pond area I saw at least 3 people slide down muddy slope. One was carrying hot coffee, another wearing flip flops, Thank God no one was carrying a baby... I didn't stay to watch who else would have fell. This place is one of the bigger ranches with a variety of things to look at and try! Unfortunately for me, by the time I got here I was already pretty full and didn't get to try too much of their food... I'll have to come back for that! They have a pretty large lot for parking that's easily accessible and is free! there were a bunch of vendors outside where you could walk through and see the trinkets and things they're selling. There's a store/to go purchase area to buy donuts, apple cider and jams! It was such a neat area to walk through! In the fudge factory, there's all kinds of sweets you could think of! And for kids there a mini mining area where you can purchase a bag inside and sift it in the water to see what "treasures" you can find! Went Tuesday, day after labor day. It was warm, breezy, with a few sprinkles. Whether it was because it was the day after Labor Day or because there were a few sprinkles, there were only a dozen or so people there. Perfect for me, but if you like crowds, you'd have found it lonely. I only went because I was told the apple fritters were exceptionally good. The apple fritter was good, however it had a slight taste that suggested, to me anyway, that the oil in the donut frier might have been a bit past its prime. It didn't stop me from eating it and, otherwise it was very good. It should have been perfect, though. At $7 each, plus the gas it took to get there, it was easily the most expensive apple fritter that I've eaten in my life. Most of what they have seemed pretty expensive. So, be prepared. I've gone to Apple Hill now. I probably won't go again. read more

Our second stop in Apple Hill in Placerville, CA was High Hill Ranch! This is one of the biggest apple hill farms you can visit. It has separate areas to buy cider, donuts, caramel apples, canned goods, and more. Plus they have lots of cool craft vendor booths you can explore. We tried a couple donuts here- the sugar apple donut and the pumpkin apple donut. The pumpkin apple donut was... a chef's kiss! Loved the strong fall spice flavors. The only reason why I went here is because they claimed to be strict on Covid-19 protocols. Upon arrival, I was shocked to see that social distancing and masks protocols were NOT enforced yesterday. Some of the people directing the parking lot were young teens who lead me back to the freeway and I had to sit in traffic for another 45 minutes! Some of the employees weren't wearing masks in the dining areas!!! A woman tried to fight me while I was in line for food because her snooty teenage daughter thought it was okay to violate me and my kids privacy. As much as I wanted to ignore her, I felt violated and told her to "Mind her own business" The whole time, the girl sat with no mask on with her arms crossed giving us that "Karen in training grin" Her daughter then thought it was funny to lie on me and say that I was taking photos of her. I was NOT. Her parents got upset and her Mother walked up to me with NO mask on yelling all kinds of profanity scaring my kids. Not only that, her husband told me to "Get the F out of here" What made him think that we didn't belong? Being a minority in Placerville is tough. Where was security?!!!!!! AGAIN -- I'm mad that more than 50% of the visitors and staff were NOT wearing masks. I'm mad that they gave me watered down apple cider. I'm mad that their traditional apple pie tasted like dough. I'm mad that they did not control the crowd. I wish I left but we drove 2 two hours and it was my daughter's birthday weekend. High Hill, you're a disaster!!!!!! Get security, hire staff old enough to drive cars so they can direct traffic correctly. The signs say "Masks enforced" Well guess what, according to my photos, no they were NOT!!!! I'd rather go to Boa Visa Orchards after dealing with this crap! Now me and my kids have to take a Covid test thanks to High Hill! I'm pissed! I'm never returning to this place again and I hope some people don't if they care about their safety, especially when it comes to Covid. High Hill does NOT care. They just want to take your money. FYI: I forgot to mention that minorities are treated poorly here. After experiencing racism during the confrontation by that woman, a white man sitting at the table by me told me to leave the United States. When I got to the front to order food, I asked for chips, the cashier rudely said "What do you want?!" I said, "Lays..." She went to grab the chips and slammed it on the table and crushed my chips. I believe she treated me this way because of the confrontation. She had no clue what happened but quickly took the other parent's side because she was white. Which lead the cashier and rest of the staff to treat me and my kids poorly upon ordering my food. So yeah, horrible experience and I'm never bringing my family to High Hill Ranch again. After all these years of visiting Apple Hill I realized I never once reviewed them. When I think of Apple Hill, I instantly think of High Hill Ranch! It's a staple filled with the pie house, hay rides, pony rides, fishing pond, and lots of vendors. Going on a weekend vs a weekday really dictates how easy it will be to find parking and how long lines will be. Typically on weekends (especially during fall) it's jam packed with lots of families. They do allow dogs here, which is amazing. You can anticipate delays getting to Apple Hill on weekends and even occasionally on weekdays. They seem to have gotten rid of a central turning point off the freeway and replaced it with a wall. This added about 5 minutes to my trip, which wasn't a big deal. I've noticed throughout the years, there seems to be more gluten free and vegan options. The pie house has vegan apple pie while fudge factory has some vegan chocolate options. Overall, Apple Hill is such an amazing place to visit at least once. It's a great place to take those visiting from out of town. I will continue to come during the fall season and pick up some apple cider along with other goodies!! read more

My first time at High Hill. We came on a late Friday afternoon. From what Ive read it's a a sh@t show on the weekends so I'd probably avoid that if possible. Free parking. Since we got there late the kitchen was closed at the restaurant. We were able to get a frozen sugar free pie to go and tried a slice. Pretty good! I personally would go all the sugary sweet pies and add more sugar and caramel and ice cream on top but for my super health conscious hot ass boyfriend who's much more disciplined than me - I'm happy they had a sugar free pie option for him. A must have is the Apple fritters. We plan on going up again soon and stocking up. The donuts were amazing and little chunks of apples inside. Another downside is it feels a bit touristy and gimmicky with vendors selling stuff like a flea market. After going back a second time and trying the fritters at different places we have come to the conclusion High Hill fritters are hands down supreme read more

Came here today August 23 2025 as they stated they were open for the season. Got here, no vendors, fudge shop closed only thing open was the little shop that sales High Hill products and the restaurant. Also I don't mind it being dog friendly. However one gentleman had is dog on a leash the dog did two two on the grass area next to the pond, the gentleman just walked away leaving # two on the ground. I drove.2,5 hrs to get here and was disappointed. I subject if you do plan to come perhaps Oct would be your best bet. High hill ranch is always an absolute most stop whenever I'm at Apple Hill. There's something to do here for everyone. It's dog friendly and family friendly. The biggest attraction is the fishing pond. I did manage to catch a fish once here! You can pay to have them descale it for you. You can bring your own fishing rod and just pay for a permit or opt to use their fishing rod. There's an option for catch and release as well. There's a lot of vendors and it's fun to walk through. I enjoyed our visit as far as walking around and shopping the various vendors. However, we purchased a pie to take home and bake. Something went terribly wrong when this pie was prepared. The apple slices in our pie were cut too close to the core. The apples slices were hard as a direct result. I attempted to contact High Hill Ranch on more than one occasion to try and talk to someone about this but never received a call back or an email response which was disappointing. This place has a huge following so I know I must have just gotten a bad pie? I don't know . . . . but based on the fact that High Hill Ranch refused to talk to respond, I won't purchase another pie there. We actually thru the pie away - a total waste of money. My family and I have been coming here for many years, specifically for the apple fitters, it's the best fritter I've had so far. We do get the other donuts as well togo. We don't live close, so we always expect a line to get parking and a line for the donuts. All the other years we've never had an issue, all the donuts were always available. This past Saturday, we waited about 20mins, got to the register and there was no fritters, young lady said it would be 20mins, then she said 30, you can't pay for them and wait, have to get back in line, ok no biggy, so we ordered our regular donuts, by the time we put those in the car, and looked around for a bit, it was time to get back in the long line again, by time we got to the front there was only 2 fritters left, we needed 4, I asked how much longer the young man said 10 mins, and they still wouldn't let me pay for 2 in advanced, and these kids working the register were rude, no customer service, no smile, nothing, just annoyed faces, like if you don't like your job or want to be busy, don't work there! People come from far away to get specific items, which as a business y'all should know what the popular items are, so stock up, especially on the weekends. So we just had to share the 2 fritters we got cause I was not waiting in the line for the third time. Also the fritters do look smaller in size from previous years. I'm not sure if I'll be coming back next year to deal with all this again. It took us 30 mins just to get in to the parking area, wasted so much time waiting a lines. High Hill, Ranch, what can I say... super nostalgic from my childhood! You can't beat the barbecue sandwich, pies, doughnuts and cider. I can definitely see the appeal; tons of vendors, lots of food options, alcohol, a fishing pond, pony rides, a short walk to the Fudge Factory Farm, etcetera, etcetera. I mean... High Hill Ranch is pretty much the Disneyland of apple farms when it comes to Apple Hill. If you love the Disneyland type of atmosphere, then you'll love High Hill Ranch. It's super busy and crowded with tons of people, but there's so much to do here. But just know that the "Disneyland" atmosphere doesn't just end at the farm. You'll have to deal with loooong lines, long wait times, horrible street traffic, and jam packed parking too. And, don't try to show up at high noon and think that you'll be moseying on up in there. You'll most likely be stuck waiting on a two lane road trying to get to the parking lot just to SEE if there's anywhere for you to park. I'm sure it isn't always like this, but 'tis the season... and people want their apples n' stuff... damnit. Okay so now that I've gotten all of THAT out of the way, I'll admit that High Hill Ranch ain't all that bad. It definitely wasn't my favorite apple farm to visit, but there's still a hell of a lot more stuff to do here compared to the other farms on the hill. What I like about High Hill Ranch is that they really support their local vendors. When you walk in, you'll be greeted with handmade art and clothing as well as other homemade trinkets that are sold by local vendors. They also have plenty of local food vendors here too. The kettle corn stand serves up some DELICIOUS popcorn and your nose might not let you pass it up while you're there. They have a Taco and Tequila bar on site but it's super overpriced for what it is in my opinion. There's also a tasting room for the winos and brewbies. Of course there's apple everything here. Candy apples, apple cider donuts, apple pie. Depending on the time that you go, you may be waiting in a super long line. There are lots of fun activities for kids including pony rides and a large recreational area with a fishing pond right in the center. You have to walk through High Hill Ranch to get to the Fudge Factory Farm, so they definitely have the upper hand on that. This was my last stop on Apple Hill and I was pretty much appled out at that point, but one thing that I wished I had gotten was an apple fritter from here. First of all... they're friggin' HUGE, and the couple sitting next to me pretty much devoured that thing whole. They said it was delicious and I could tell by the way that they were eating it. I was able to enjoy a really tasty caramel apple with nuts. That was huge too and worth every damn calorie. I would consider going back during a time when it isn't so crowded. But since it's only open seasonally, that's kind of hard to avoid. Still a nice apple ranch to go to if you don't mind being amongst the busy crowds. read more

It is definitely one of the biggest stands with the most activities to offer. They also had a food truck that sold lumpia which were pretty good although I don't know if they are always there. Also, since we went on a Friday it was overly crowded which also made it a nicer experience because sometimes these stands are CRAZY packed. We picked up an Apple and Pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. Followed the directions for freezing and reheating. The pies did not reheat well. They were awful! The Pumpkin pie was soggy as was the Apple pie. The Apple pie was tasteless no flavor. I would not recommend these pies!! Thankfully there were other desserts for our Thanksgiving dessert. read more

Huge! On first glance you would've think this is a fairgrounds. Place was pretty packed but traffic moves and they have plenty of staff to direct you to parking spaces within their farm. Place has lots of events and things to do and you can easily spend up to half a day here. Lot of small arts and crafts place, and on the Saturday we went, there were musicians performing by the lake and people were just sitting there listening and soaking up the son. High hill ranch up in apple hill Where you can pick your own apples, ride some horses for the kiddos, even a spot for catch and release fishing, take in some of the fresh mountain air, catch a bite to eat and check out some of the local art work tents. We walked around the booths that were open and saw so many things from glass nail files, beautiful paintings, hand made jewelry, clothing, air brush tattoos, some just to name a few. The food spot had some decent food too. Yes they had hamburgers but they were a 1/3lb Kobe beef, hotdogs they had regular and polish. Hand carved Turkey sandwiches and chicken salad sandwiche that was bomb. It even came with some macaroni salad. Both were Perfectly seasoned and still chunks of chicken not all stringed out and mush. one of the best we have had in a long time. Don't forget the pies, plenty of them to enjoy too. The kids enjoyed the hotdogs and toasted roll. The cheese burger was really good and big. No complaints there. We always visit this place when we come to Apple hill. So cute and so many yummy snacks. We love getting candy down at the fudge shop. You have to walk down to it but it's well worth the walk. Not only are the treats amazing, but a young lady name Emily, who works there was super sweet. I really needed a quarter for the gum ball machine for my granddaughter, I was in a light panic because I had already got one for my grandson and then realized I only had one quarter. Any grandparent knows this is a major no no. Emily came to the rescue she went to her own purse and got some quarters for us. Thank you Emily! You made our trip. read more

I personally don't see the appeal of High Hill. The ranch was extremely crowded, seemed somewhat disjointed. Bathroom was clean, but the floor needed a lot of repair. Parking lot was extremely confusing to navigate, especially the exit. Lots of stuff to do for kids, but expect a crowd. read more

This apple farm was huge! We didn't get to explore this place fully as there was quite a few areas to cover. There's an apple market where we got delicious caramel dips. They had a few small shops selling cute trinkets in the front. There's a small lake where you could go fishing. Too crowded on the weekends! Arrived on Saturday before 10am and there was already a long line of cars waiting to enter. Lots of parking available and they have people directing traffic and keeping things organized which is nice. If you've been to one place on apple hill, you've pretty much been to them all. All of the stores sell the same stuff. Apples, cider, jams, donuts etc. High hill ranch is a bigger property so there are more vendors and booths to look around at and there's a grassy area to sit as well.
