Definitely had a fun start to my husband's birthday week! We got in on the happy hour and ordered the pretzel, the potato skins, and the chili cheese fries sub tots. Due to the OC fair going on, they had cowboy caviar which was basically elote. It was yummy! Our son got the kid's chicken tenders with fries. We got to enjoy live music from Parker Smith. The service was exceptional, our waitress was on top of it and she was extremely nice! Went here last night with my girlfriend for our first time. We loved the vibe as well as the food and drinks and service was great! After we finished eating we ordered another round of drinks, however we were kicked off our table before we were able to enjoy them. This was at 10pm, we were unaware that it was going to turn into nightclub mode right away. We sat in the corner table in the southwest corner of the restaurant completely out of the way of the crowds but were still told we had to get up from our table. This has to be one of the better bar/grill type restaurants in the area. Not only did my ribs not disappoint in the size department, but it turned out far tastier than it had any right to be. This is an entree I would re-order in a heartbeat. In fact, most of my party said their food was more than good with the only notable exception being my friend's bison burger coming out medium rather than the medium rare he had asked for. The space is big, there's a definite vibe I really get into walking in, and overall the noise level was on par with what you'd expect from this type of establishment. Entrance is largely by rear of restaurant and is interconnected with Mickeys bar Theme is largely western, with a huge array of trinkets that decorate the location. Furnished in wood and subtle lighting, the music is low and tranquil, with easy country music . Patrons are friendly, mostly family oriented and the atmosphere was welcoming. For small gatherings to large, you'll have a good time. Food menu is varied with unique servings and large 32 of beers available. The only problem i would state, and which affected my score, would be the service. At the end of the night, I was heavily charged for drinks that I had not ordered. My bill was 250 plus . The result was being charged 8 32oz beers when I had only drank 1. I did invite a few beers and food items, of all which was a grand total of 140... but to be charged 11 drinks more? My issue is, the lady bartender wanted me to split and review the bill with my friends. And after a couple min, she realized that , yes, i had not ordered so much. While the bill was fixed to reflect actual charges, i felt a bit annoyed by how it was handled and why my card had so many charges, especially when I was at the bar most of the time. So please people close out your tab every time you order, and always review your bill - always! So my final score is 2.90 - the great atmosphere really was great- it just the bad taste of getting a bill that was filled errors. read more

I went to the High Horse Saloon for a bar experience and was lassoed into club movement. I needed a bit of drink and hoopla, work stress--I am sure your familiar- so I welcomed the bump and grind experience, I used the word lassoed above because it aligns with the country charm of this joint, not because I was forced into the piano-music, hay, boot and horseshoe vibe of this place. And, the music of this place was top 40 and recent, I did not line or square dance atop the floors of this place. I just want to affirm that this place is decorated to feel like a Saloon of movies, but it does not fully embrace its cowboy fever dream. For example, once I slowed down- due to a bit of booze- I was able to take in the decorations of this place, and let me tell you, cow-folk, the place made me feel like I had a snake in my boot, a bale of hay in my pick-up, and a horse named Friday. But this feeling was only temporary, the place did not fully embrace the Old West Saloon feel of yesteryear, like I said above, so I came back to the moment and realized I was not a cowboy on a trek for a bounty, more like cow-milk drinker in a quest for a hostess cupcake to pair. As I was dancing with a glass of Tequila, soda water with a splash of OJ (a dieter's drink) I saw a television play a commercial prompting us to offer money so we can help children with cleft lips smile brighter after corrective surgery. I am aware of pain and need of the world, I certainly am. But I felt like as a cowboy in-training, I did not need to be reminded of such a specific need, in this moment. I was here to escape woe, not to see it as I sipped, grooved and imagined life with only a horse to get me from point A to point B. I did see a bar game I have never had. There is basically a string, or a rope, that holds a circled ring. And the object is to move the rope in such a way where the ring lands and connects to a hook on a wall. Simple. But I have lived long enough that some simple games take a moment to learn but a life of practice to master. This was that type of game. I wanted to join the fun, but I did not know the etiquette of the line. For instance, pool has etiquette; you either put a quarter on table or your name on a board. Then your called. I wanted to play but I was too scared to ask and find my place amongst the crowd of friends. Not sure why, but maybe this place would benefit from a system that tracks turns that way inclusion is upheld, in a way that makes it easy or maybe the game does not demand more thought then landing a ring into a hook? The place had mostly a proverbial college crowd, which makes the place fresh, octane-driven, unruly with performance and action, and, overall, crazy but in. a way that reminds me why youth matters--- it is a time of freedom, exploration, and sheer fun even in dispute. And this place brought a lot of people together looking for a good time, and that is what a good place should do, provide the background for those who seek unrefined tradition and giggles. Kudos for that. Yee-haw for that? Praise for that. I also met quite a few people on the day I went, which means that the party was tight. Ha. The most memorable of the bunch was a dude who saw me vibing and observing the crowd and said to me "go get them don't be afraid, go get them." He encouraged me to seize the moment, and try to flirt in the least, and at the most, be aggressive but still appropriately for a club setting--- so in other words be confident but stop before you get to obnoxiously persistent. And that line is trying and accepting a no. But I was not there for that. I was there for movement and mental rest. Seeing the crowd and the different outfits, and the different scenarios unfold, all while I moved my knees and arms, was engaging to my mind and in away a night well spent. The place also had good music. You know top 40, the music that makes you want to move. And move hard. The place also had animal faces mounted on the wall. Were they fake or real? I am not sure. If they were real animals that onced lived, why would you keep that as a trophy? But some people tattoo their mother's name on their chest, so I guess, to each their own. The place got crowded. It smelled like sweat and skin. At that point, it got too crowded. But the fact tht it got too crowded was part of its charm, its magic, and reason why I loved it. So I guess, I knew to tolerate a small discomfort because of the great prize at steak---- a sea of people that wash me into their moment. I would go here again, and I would feel like drinking more to be in line with the rest of the crowd. But for that too happen I need a designated driver. You'r welcome MADD. read more

Food was great! We ordered the pickle fries for our app. They were good, it was just hard to get them to not separate from the breading. Had the steak baked potato and it was so good! We usually frequent downtown Fullerton but on the south side (Heros, Roscoes, etc..) so we just started recently crossing over to the north side. High Horse basically shares a kitchen with it's sister bar next door Mickeys Pub, so the food is all pretty much the same with just a couple of different takes. Drink's wise, you'll get a lot of whiskey selections here. Prices are a little high so best to come during Happy Hour if you can. They do have some good country music playing so that's a bonus. read more

The salad was fresh and tasty, along with the skewers, which were tender and well seasoned. We came for a quick stop for drinks so we were not able to try other meals but we did catch the happy hour pricing which was nice. Drinks: I ordered "The Smoking Gun" and my wife had "A Boy Named Sue" both were tasty and bourbon based. The best part of the experience here was the ambiance and decor. You really feel like you're in the Wild West! Our experience with servers was great, our original waitress had to go on break shortly after so we were taken care of by the manager and they were both great. Got dinner here on a weekday and enjoyed the ambiance and food. It's a country bar that played country music and was decked out in western decor. I go to college in the South and felt at home in this little corner of downtown Fullerton. I ordered the blue collar burger with seasoned fries. I don't like a strong blue cheese taste, and I loved this burger. The blue cheese was subtle enough to make the burger extra juicy and flavorful but not overpowering like blue cheese tends to be. The fries were crispy and pretty good too! I just wish the fries came with a signature dipping sauce. The service was excellent and quick. The hostess was very nice and the waiter was very attentive and kind. Everyone seemed friendly and engaged. Overall: the food was tasty, no complaints regarding service, and the interior decor is so cute. I would definitely come again on a weekend when the place is buzzing a little more. read more

These guys deserve two thumbs up! We have only been here twice so far but have loved both visits. It is a fairly new restaurant/saloon in Fullerton connected to the other business, Mickey's. We still need to check out Mickey's. The owner also owns a number of other restaurants in Fullerton to around Newport Beach. For my first visit I went with their loaded baked potato with steak. I recommend asking for bbq sauce to add more moisture as well as a nice additional flavor punch. Everything in it tasted delicious. That potato was very large too. For my second visit I had their bison burger with pepper jack cheese, bbq sauce, bacon, onion rings. The burger tasted excellent and practically melted in my mouth. They also give you a lot of french fries to go with it. Steven had the tri tip sliders on his first visit and loved them. For his second visit he got the tri tip entree (Two Steppin' Tri Tip) which included delicious tri tip, baked beans, a side salad, and garlic bread. It was a lot of food for $20. You get a great portion of tri tip too, and it was very tender. No sauce was even needed because it had so much flavor. You will often get a number of people helping you out aside from your server from anything from your drink orders and refills, to your food, etc. Everyone has been friendly here and you get help from everyone. I hope this business remains just as great between their delicious food and friendly service. I am happy they opened up and now I will need to check out Mickey's. read more

I absolutely love this place and am so glad that they are relatively close to us in Downtown Fullerton. The space they occupy has been a couple different businesses over the years but High Horse Saloon definitely has the staying power to be the one that thrives along with Mickeys Irish Pub next door (same owner along with Matador Cantina across the street). We have been here twice now and both visits were great and exceeded expectations. Everything from the menu to the service to the flavor and even the pricing are just right. They also have sports on the tvs and a full bar with a quality cocktail menu as well. On my first visit I went with the Wedge Salad and the tri tip sliders and was very happy with both choices. The salad was huge and the tri tip sliders were cooked perfectly and bursting with flavor from the meat and Chipotle mayo. My wife went with the steak loaded baked potato and it was huge and she loved it as well. We decided to come back today on New Years Eve for lunch (they serve brunch on weekends until 1:30 but full lunch/dinner menu is open from 11:00 to close). We were quickly seated in a large booth and asked if we wanted brunch or lunch. Lunch didn't start for another 5 minutes or so but we waited and looked over the menu to find some new options. I opted to go with the Two-Steppin Tri Tip which comes with a side salad (with choice of dressing), garlic bread and baked beans for $20 and this is a great bargain and a very filling portion. My wife went with the On The Range Bison Burger and absolutely loved it as well. On both visits the service was impeccably great (not something I can say much in this day and age) and really makes you feel at home and wanting to come back and support this great business. Overall lunch for two was $44 before tip and we both left full, satisfied and already making plans to come back soon to try their breakfast service and options. We will definitely return again soon as I definitely feel this will become a regular dinner/lunch option for us going forward. I also hope to try Mickeys (sister business) next door soon as well and will post a review once we have. Great spot if you are into Country Music and enjoy the chill vibe that you get in Fullerton. The bartenders are all great and all the food that I have tried here is great. I enjoy sitting at the horseshoe bar, ordering some whiskey and some appetizers. The decor reminds you that you of the western theme but not overdone. I came here with my book club for dinner and it was the perfect setting! We all ordered the "ladies love outlaws" cocktail and it was tasty. The menu is a mix of salads, sandwiches, and steak. It's all pretty heavy and rich (not that I'm complaining). For dinner, I ordered the steak loaded baked potato. The portions are generous. I think I was able to finish only half of my entree. The steak could've used a little more seasoning but it was cooked to perfection. Our server was great and checked on us regularly. Welcome to the Downtown Fullerton neighborhood High Horse Saloon! This place is a trendy country bar and so cute. The design is beautiful and so curious to see what it is like at night on the weekends or during college nights since it is located in DTF. We came for happy hour(3-6pm weekdays) on a Monday which was a ghost town but we had exceptional service from Sienna. The old west cocktail list is really fun and creative here but a total bummer it is not included on happy hour. They do $5 well drinks, etc but being at a new spot I wanted to try the cocktails. We did not have food here because we ate at Mickeys next door which is owned by the same owner and they have almost the same menu. Favorite Cocktails: The Smoking Gun $16 - A Smokey cocktail which is fun but the really surprising factor was the bacon washed bourbon. It had that Smokey bacon taste and it was so good! What Would Dolly Do $14- Similar to a spicy margarita and I was there for it. Ladies Love Outlaws $14- This was the only cocktail that was pretty lackluster for myself but the rose petals were pretty! Waylons Oasis $14-was really refreshing loved the cucumber and aloe vera infused water. Overall, a fun place for drinks but Palapas (the previous bar in this spot) always had my heart so I was sad to see it replaced. She told us where to check in, since we did come from the street. And by absolute luck, she became our server!
