High Note is always a must-eat whenever I'm in Boise! The food is delicious, the portions are filling, and the staff is always so kind. I've had the quesadilla with "chicken" soycurls, the breakfast burrito, the pesto sandwich, and their blueberry basil lemonade... All were incredible! I always eat here at least once when visiting or passing through. I've been vegan for 5 years and have lived in the vegan mecca Portland-- the food here easily holds its own against restaurants there. On our last day in Boise, we stopped at the High Note for lunch. Our friends had their dog with them, so we were looking for a place that was dog-friendly. Luckily, High Note has an outdoor seating area where we were allowed to bring the dog. Unfortunately, even though High Note does have umbrellas over each of their tables outside, the umbrellas proved to be relatively ineffective at shielding us from the heat. It didn't help that this place was absolutely packed at lunch time and they only had two employees working. We had to wait a while for our food, so if you are looking for a quick lunch in downtown Boise, this is not the place for you. Once we finally did receive our food though, I think it was worth the wait. I ordered the Reuben sandwich with a side of salmon chowder. The corned beef was thick and salty. It was perfectly complemented by the creamy Russian dressing. The bread was nicely toasted as well. They opted for red cabbage instead of the traditional sauerkraut, but the sandwich still had plenty of flavor. The salmon chowder looked a little watery, but was surprisingly very tasty. It had plenty of salmon and chunks of potatoes. High Note has pretty slow service for a downtown sandwich spot (especially for a week day), but the food tastes great and is filling. If you have time for a leisurely lunch, this place is worth checking out. read more

I am so glad that I stumbled on this fantastic little sandwich shop while here on business in downtown Boise. It's a family owned and family staffed place which serves artisan homemade sandwiches and soups I had the Cuba sandwich and tomato soup. Both were excellent, particularly the sandwich which was served on bread that they bake right in the store. Their ice tea was a bit watery, but that is to be expected. It's very difficult to find good ice tea outside of the South. My sole complaint is that they don't accept AMEX, which I suppose is not really a big deal, but inconvenient for those whom are on travel as I was. read more

This was our first time ordering food at High Note and all I can say is we will be back. They are doing a very good job with their vegan options. Very flavorful and large portions. Walked by this place many times and finally decided to try it out. The inside had lots of art and music playing. Ordered the Mediterranean salad and tacos. It took a while to actually get, 20 mins, and there were only two other tables that had already received their food. The tacos were pretty good, but the salad was nothing special. I maybe picky when it comes to salad but I do not like it when I have to chop and mix my own salad. The veggies were cut large and we're all on the edge of the salad. Which meant I had to chop them into bite size pieces and mix it all together. I love what this place stands for and the giant leap of faith they took in going cruelty free! That said, I think constructive criticism is necessary to make this restaurant as successful as possible. I was extremely excited to come here on a stop in Boise. The reviews were almost perfect. My son and K ordered the hummus plate, grilled cheese, and bruschetta grilled cheese. The hummus was delicious! Seriously one of the best I've had. The big bummer is that the veggies that came with it did not seem fresh. The celery in particular was brown and wilting. The pita was okay. I was really disappointed in the quality of the veggies after hearing so much about fresh and local. I would love to see the hummus platter include some additional,fresh veggies and more interesting "dippers". Regular grilled cheese was rad. Bruschetta grilled cheese tasted great but was extremely soggy and nearly impossible to eat. Maybe experiment with other cheese products or cooking times/methods because the shredded mozzarella did not melt at all, not even a little, and coupled with the slippery tomatoes made the whole deal a slippery mess that fell all over the place. The bread on both sandwiches was fantastic! I'd love to see a BLT with tempeh or zucchini bacon next time I'm in the area,and hopefully the little kinks will be worked out by then. read more

We came in on a Friday night with our 2 year old and had an amazing experience! The service was a bit slow but there was only one server so I understood. She did suggest a baby plate for our son and munched on oranges and pieces of our meals as well. The food was insanely fresh. I got a gyro! The seitan was perfect in this dish. My partner had a habanero quesadilla. He said it was one of the best he's ever had. We got dessert! Apple crumble cake and a mixed fruit pie. So delicious! If you choose a salad I am sure you cannot go wrong but I loved the high note house salad with the citrus cilantro vinaigrette. Good portion, not to big or small. After we found masks to walk two feet to our table, the lady behind the bar left us standing at the door so she could finish inputting receipts. The waitress then told us it would be a 40 minute wait when there was clearly 4 open tables available and no other people waiting to be seated. Found this place on HappyCow on day 1 of a road trip from Portland to PA. I ordered a grilled cheese (add mushrooms) and a side of tomato soup. It may have been the best vegan grilled cheese I've ever had (and I've had a few)! The bread and cheese were both homemade and absolutely delightful. Loved the soup too, very flavorful. My partner ordered the gyro with a side of bean dip and he was very happy with his choices. Friendly staff made us feel very welcome. I'd totally hang out here for karaoke night if i lived in Boise. The only thing I didn't care for was that they put ice in the kombucha, which to me is like putting ice in beer... so if you order a kombucha you may want to ask them to hold the ice. read more

This is a small hidden gem downtown on 5th street. I have been several times now and have enjoyed everything I have ordered. Stopped in at noon for brunch on a Saturday. I was expecting a packed house given the bicycle event that was in Boise on Saturday but there was only one other table. Quickly realized that this is family owned and operated business. Everything is made fresh. They literally do not have a freezer. I believe everything is cooked on a large flat hot plate which is why it may take a while to get your food but it is worth the wait. I ordered the pico scramble. Delicious and everything I was hoping for. I wish restaurants like the High Note existed in Seattle. Simple food made well - nothing over the top and out of this world with prices to match. Only complaint is there seems to be no air conditioning in the space so it was quite hot inside given the 100+ temps outside. Beer and wine only but they can do mimosas. read more

I just LOVE this place. I actually was trying to decide where to go to lunch one day so I looked on Yelp to see what was nearby with good reviews and came across the High Note. I don't know how I never knew about this place. It's tucked away in between the Flying M and Guidos. This has now become a favorite lunch spot of mine. The BEST part about this place is they take the time to make basically everything homemade and it really shows in the flavors. You don't get that much anymore...homemade bread..salad dressings?! So delicious. They also dont use microwaves! For the price it's a great value, I get the half sandwich with one of their tasty soups for $7. The turkey cheddar melt sandwich is so hearty with big thick pieces of turkey and homemade bread, I can't finish a whole one. I have only tried the salmon chowder, which I love, but they always have several other soup options. I am really curious to try the breakfast burrito or one of their salads...next time! The inside is small and a little dark and quiet in the daytime but don't worry the food makes up for it. I am going to have to check this place out at night sometime, it seems to turn into a bar and they offer late night food and live music! I hope this place never goes away!! read more

Driving back to Salt Lake from Seattle today, needed somewhere to stop in Boise to take a break and get a bite to eat. My review may be biased after having some amazing food at amazing places in Portland and Seattle the last 10 days, so there's that. This place is TINY. They have no business being a restaurant at this location?! There really looked to be no place to cook any food. Also, it is tiny, and there was hardly anyone there when we were, so were heard every conversation by the employees. Didn't really want to! Food took forever to come out. Again, too small for actual production. Food was good, but portions were not. My sandwich was really big, and my salad was overdressed. But it all tasted really good. My daughter had eggs, just eggs and toast. For about 10$ you could add potatoes. The boyfriend had the breakfast tacos, 5 very-mini tacos with egg and tomato. It just seemed kind of silly. When we got there at 12:30, there were only 2 employees, 3-4 tables. The place is open 11a-3p on Sunday. The whole hour we were there, not more than 3-4 tables were seated. 30 minutes to get food. When we left there were 3 employees, and they all just seemed to be screwing around and talking to each other. I don't think they really know what they are doing, or are at all that interested. And why open 4 hours on Sunday? Weird. The server was indeed nice, but all of them were just unprofessional. I would not go back, even though the food was good. It just all seemed very bizarre.
