John makes HVAC repair look easy, much like a great athlete makes their job look easy. What impresses me most about John is his honesty. He will tell you what is really going on w your system, unlike other local major HVAC corporations, who paint a doom-and-gloom-you-need-to-replace (soon) picture. John is a rare gem in a sea of crooks. Along with John's honesty is his integrity. When John gives you a quote, that is the real deal--no add ons, no surprise fees, no major changes at the last minute, etc. John is a man of his word, unlike two local major HVAC corporations, who give you a quote, then they add all kinds of extras that result in a significantly higher quote than at the beginning. I feel that John's goal is to fix an HVAC system to the best of his abilities, so it runs smoothly for years to come. He takes pride in solving an HVAC puzzle, and getting the system back up. This is not the goal of most repair places, whose goal is to ensure you need them sooner for another repair. Another note... Materials. John uses the best quality parts he can find. For example, a very common repair is a simple changing of the capacitor. The contractor can use any brand they like. There are many grades of quality ranging from low to high. Most contractors will use the cheapest part they can find, and charge you the most they can. Not John. He has done much field research of his own, and has found a brand that meets his standards of quality and longevity. My advice here, if you need any kind of service on your AC, please ask John to also replace the capacitor with his best quality capacitor. It will likely save you a service call fee down the road. My review will be another 5 star rating for High Performance Heating and Air, and specifically the owner John who seems to be the common thread among everyone's high praise. John's exceptional knowledge and dedication to his customer is readily apparent to anyone who has had ever had another company to their home for HVAC/Furnace issues. I was a new home owner a decade ago. Shortly after being in the house I experienced issues with heating and air. I had a company come out and right away was told I needed a new furnace, among other things. I may not be a furnace expert but I do know when someone is trying to sell me a bill of goods. As luck would have it my next call was to John and as soon as he came out he diagnosed the problems and quickly fixed them. I learned allot during my appointment and saved John's business card. That was 5 years ago and I still have the same furnace. Unfortunately when things go wrong they are never at a good time. Right after the New Year I had just brought my mother home from the hospital and the heat went out. And of course during our cold spell when the outside temps were in the 30's. It was not a question of calling around to see who come out as I only wanted John. Despite being tired from all the extra calls over the holidays and being booked for several days ahead, John still managed to squeeze me into his schedule, an act of kindness to which I was most grateful. Having dealt with other companies for various repairs in the house it is very rare to find someone who is that committed to doing Grade A work and has no interest in ripping you off in the process. My first great experience with John was three years ago. My AC had stopped working and the original contractor who had been referred to me told me that I needed a whole new unit. The cost was an eye-opener for me, and I searched for a second opinion. I found John on YELP and he evaluated and fixed what was wrong with the unit for only a couple hundred dollars. He fully explained what was wrong and how he was going to fix it. Also, as the work was on the roof, I did not accompany him, so he followed up by emailing to me the pictures of what he had worked on. Just last week, my heater had shut off after I had changed the filter. I had an acquaintance who is also a handyman look at it, explaining when the shut off had occurred but he could not find a solution to the problem. John to the rescue !!! I left him a message yesterday that we were having a problem with the HVAC. Unfortunately its about 39 years old. We did replace the condenser about 6-7 years ago but the problem is with the inside unit (furnace). Knowing John is so busy this time of year, we expected to wait at least a several days or more. He called the next afternoon and said he could be here in about 1/2 hour ! It was already 4:30 so we figured he was making time for us after his day should have been over. It's a Saturday, 94 degrees outside and my air conditioner isn't working. I yelped air conditioner repair companies in my area. High Performance Heating and Air was rated as one of the best. Now I know why. After leaving a message on the service, John called me back. I explained my situation to him. He walked me through what he thought might be the problem. I did as he suggested. Five minutes later, I heard the click and hum of my air conditioner. 15 minutes later, the sweat was gone from my brow and my family and I were relieved....and cool again! He is efficient, fast, smart, a good communicator, and a wonderful HVAC repairman, installer, and wizard - and even better - he is honest. He can walk you through issues on the phone and help you diagnose the situation. Sometimes you can fix the problem yourself and he will not charge you for his time (which he just did for us over the weekend, when our AC conked out when it was 104 outside). After describing what was nonfunctional, he helped me debug the problem over the phone. With the aid of pictures I sent him of my system, he narrowed in on potential causes and cost estimates. This is another thing I liked about John's company when researching - He states his rate and cost estimates on his web page, which sets clear expectations. After discussing the failed system a little longer, John asked if there was a "red" button that was standing proud. I removed another panel from my system and lo and behold there was. I pressed it, and my system started. We discussed some additional details regarding my old system that could have caused the need for a thermal reset. John's approach of remote debugging on the phone saved me a lot of money, but cost him revenue. This act speaks highly to John's approach to the "customer comes first". read more

I has just spent money on a sustainable energy audit of my house. The audit revealed duct work and furnace replacement that could have count me upwards of $8000-$16000. The audit revealed duct work leaking and suggested replacement of both the ducts as well as the furnace. I gave the information to John at High Performance and he called me to ask me some questions as well as give me some inspection and repair tips. I went into the attic ( where my furnace is located) and the first thing I noticed was the heat exchanger housing was missing a 6inch by 21 inch piece of metal and blowing huge amounts of heat/air into the attic In fact the plenum had separated from the exchanger . John coached me on how to repair this simply and it took me a few hours to hang and repair all the ducts by myself.My cost in parts $61 dollars. I am disappointed with John's service. I usually depend on Yelp for reference. But this time just did not work out as the other reviews. My AC recently broke down. I'd found John from yelp and he came couple days later. He spoke as if he was very knowledgeable and informative. He told me with assurance that the controller for my AC needed replacement. So, he came back the next day to replace. However, my AC did not blow cold air after the controller replacement. He then checked my unit outside and told me that the unit was leaking puron. He should have checked the unit outside the first time he came to assess the problem. With that, he charged me over $500 for less than an hour of work. On top of that, he did not fix my AC. He then try to milk me more by telling me that he could try fix the unit outside for another $1,000. I would not recommend him. He is overly price. Worst, he did not fix the Problem. Then still try to milk you for more... Uggggg. read more

While packing for our next day departure to Maui our furnace quit. I called the last Heating & Air people who had installed our AC some 7 years ago. The tech arrived and showed me the furnace's burned out control board. He then started trying to sell me a new furnace because our Lennox is about 17 years old. He said he didn't have the right control board on his truck to fix my furnace. I'm not about to make snap decisions on expensive home repairs. So I decided to wait and deal with it later when we returned. Boy, am I glad I did !! I did some research online, while away, and called John after reading his Great reviews on Yelp. The day of our return, after spending a COLD night in a 48 degree house, John arrived and switched out the bad control board for a good one that he carries on his truck. We had our bi-annual furnace inspected by two different companies. They both suggested that the inducer motor needs to be replaced and the blower motor needs to be cleaned. They both also suggested that before we put money into system we should look at an option on replacement. I went on Yelp and discovered High Performance which had excellent reviews. I contacted John and he came the next day. He gave us a thorough review of our furnace and we agreed to his recommendation of replacing the inducer motor and servicing the furnace for less. He saved us thousands of dollars! We also inquired about an intermittent noise in the house. My husband and I called John about 3 years ago to help with our furnace. Basically it took him less than 20 minutes last time to find the issue and fix it. How good is John, you ask? Is he really 5 stars good? Well let me answer your questions......15 minutes before he was scheduled to check out my furnace, my neighborhood experienced a black out. No power whatsoever! I called John to reschedule but he was already exiting the freeway en route to my house. We decided he might as well continue, since he was almost there. With no power and only my answers to his very specific questions guiding him, he was able to narrow it down (in 5 mins) to a bad capacitor on the blower motor. He disconnected it, checked it out, determined it was bad and went out his van returning with a new one to install. With no way to actually test it, he assured me that if this wasn't the problem, he would return the following day (a Saturday, no less!) to complete the job. I would write about the most recent repair visit, but I can't!! Instead of coming out to house and charging us for a service call, he spend 30 minutes on the phone with me one early morning helping me troubleshoot our system to figure out why the furnace would not light. We found High Performance Heating & Air via a Next Door referral. They came out and performed repairs on our furnace. They were very informative, thorough and efficient. After the service and when receiving the bill we were pleasantly surprised at the reasonable pricing for the service and parts for which they supplied. Our A/C failed to work the following spring and we called High Performance again. Once again High Performance came out and efficiently resolved the problem.
