High Seas Tattoo Parlor is a god send! I came from San Francisco to LA for one night, soley to get a tattoo with an artist I had booked months ago. When I arrive to her studio, the artist's assistant informed me that the tattoo artist I was booked with was not going to be coming in at all for a "personal reason". I shed a few tears after leaving, and once I was feeling a bit better I set off to find another tattoo artist to do my tattoo. Not shockingly, not many artists are open for last minute appointments on a busy Saturday in Los Angeles! When I called High Seas Tattoo Parlor I was delighted to find out that they accepted walk-ins and could get me in that day! I'm not going to lie- I was super nervous. The tattoo I wanted is something deeply personal and important to me, and I waited 6 years until I allowed myself to get it because it represents a major part of my life. So having a tattoo artist I spent months looking for not show up for it, and going to a studio where I didn't know who would be doing my tattoo set my teeth on edge a bit. Let me tell you, I had NO reason to worry! All of the employees and artists at High Seas Tattoo Parlor were so kind and instantly made me feel so at ease. My tattoo artist, Niko, was so wonderful and personable, and I felt all my anxiety melt away. He was super attentive when I explained the design I had in mind, and was eager to lend his expertise on positioning and composition. The sketch that he brought me was perfect on first draft- I couldn't take my eyes off of it! Niko had a super light hand while tattooing me, and kept up wonderful conversation. I found out that he grew up where I live, and he was so attentive and kind. The tattoo itself is gorgerous, and I catch myself just staring at it even after almost a week of having it! I seriously and truly believe that being canceled on by my original artist was a complete gift from the universe so that I could be led to Niko and the High Seas Parlor so that I could get the tattoo that I've been dreaming about for years. When I got my tattoo I was disappointed The tattoo artist spelled out my tattoo incorrectly and I had to teach him how to spell then when he tattoo'd he did not even wipe down/sanitize or shave the area first. Niko was the artists name it was not a great experience here and that same tattoo had to be redone so the words could show because it faded in less than a year. read more

If you're considering a single needle style tatt, BOOK WITH JOEY HILL!!! This was my first tattoo so I was pretty nervous, but he made the entire experience totally breezy and painless. I started chatting him about the concept over Instagram a few weeks prior to my appointment--even though my ideas were kind of abstract, he drafted some different options that were more gorgeous than I could've ever imagined. I wouldn't review anyone who is anything less than phenomenal. With that said, Joey is your guy to go to for delicate single needle tattoos! I'm so glad that he created my first tattoo, from a rough concept to art that I never even thought of. I knew I wanted something simple but edgy, and I went to the shop nervous about not knowing exactly what I wanted, or not liking the design. I knew what concepts I wanted, but I didn't know what I wanted the whole picture to look like exactly. The way I tried to explain it to Joey overtime sounded complicated, but nonetheless his first sketch was something I've been wanting but never had the right descriptive details to explain. The whole process was a breeze, and Joey did not make me feel uncomfortable for one second. He never rushed me, ensured that the design and placement was 200% what I wanted, made conversation with me while he was doing his work, and kept me pretty relaxed after my first five minute silent panicking lol. For reference, my appointment started at 7:30 PM and we finished everything, from sketching to completion including line and shading, at about 10:00 PM. I will say this: treat your artist right and they will treat you the same! This should go for anyone in the customer service industry, really. Can't say enough about this tattoo parlor. The tattoo artists are super chill and make you feel at ease. They'll place the stencils on you as many times as you want and not complain about it haha. I had one of my stencils replaced so many times, but my tattoo artist was more than willing to do whatever it took to make me happy. I got this tattoo back in February and it quickly faded and soon realized how overall bad of a piece it turned out to be. None of the lines are straight, clearly the bottom right is much more thick than everything else, none of the corners come together nicely, the inner lines are completely faded. paid $100+ for this and I am so disappointed that I have to go get it completely redone at a different shop. The only reason I made this Yelp account was to give props to Shon and his shop. I've been tattooed by him twice now, and each time I brought in custom work, he's made it even better. Although I've only been tattooed by Shon (the owner) at High Seas, I wouldn't have any issue getting tattooed by anyone else at the shop either. Everyone's line and colour work is seriously top notch and the walls covered with their flash should be an easy indication that this is the #1 spot to get traditional work done. Got two tattoos here a few days ago (walked in no appointment) I guess it's my fault for going to a walk in place and not thoroughly inspecting the tattoo before he started. I didn't notice till I got home my axolotl had three major mistakes on it's leg, the leg had no ankle, the foot was missing a digit and the line to the back leg was curved instead of straight making it look like the leg was flexing outwards which anatomically makes zero sense. I gave the artist (shon) a photo to sketch the exact shape onto his tracing paper no idea how he messed up those three things with the reference photo there to draw off of. So major bummer, not sure what I will need to do to the tattoo to fix it now. Then the second tattoo I showed him the reference photo and he straight up was too lazy to do it because it had shading in it. Another artist Niko was looking for other reference photos of something that was similar and simpler. It was a scale. I mean I do like the scale that we ended up picking out but it was very strange to me how they straight up were too lazy to do the first photo because there was a small amount of shading. I definitely won't be back. Make sure you stand up for what you want and don't make the same mistake as I did and not really look over every detail of the stencil before they start. read more

Let me just say, I didn't even get a tattoo and still had the most awful experience with Joey Hill. His assistant double booked two other people during my appointment time today. I was booked for this appointment over a month ago and followed up with 2 confirmations, so I thought we were good for this time and date, and that a mishap like this would not happen. I paid for an Uber and traveled over an hour to get here for my appointment at 11:30, only for Joey to text me past 11am saying that he was running late and can take me between 12-12:30. When I arrived at 11:30, the door was not open and the 2 other people that his assistant booked today at 11 asked me if I had an appointment. When I told them that I had an appointment at 11:30, they told me that they had an appointment at 11, had been waiting for a while, and traveled all the way from Yucca Valley. When we got inside the parlor, he was unaware that he even had an appointment with this couple and came in for his appointment with me, yet he served the couple first, disregarded my presence, and attempted to send me home. Logically speaking, he came in for an appointment with me so why is it that I was sent to the back of the line behind 2 others he did not know would be coming in? What really upset me today was the lack of professionalism and Joey's inability to take any responsibility for this mishap, even on his assistant's behalf. I understand that mistakes happen and there can be a mixup when trying to handle someone else's schedule, and I would not have been as upset if Joey had handled this situation in a more professional manner, but his arrogance and rude behavior was uncalled for. I did my part to show up for the appointment on time, as I had confirmed... and as someone with a busy schedule I do not have time to wait around all day for him to take me in 3 hours later than the time promised. I stayed at the parlor until 1pm and at that point he was nowhere near ready to take me in -- was still working on the first person and hadn't even gotten to the second person yet. He did not in the least bit even try to accommodate me, let alone apologize for the whole situation, and just handed me his phone to put in my Venmo username to send me back my deposit (+ $20 for Uber costs). In addition to his inability to own up to the situation, all he said to me in response to the situation is "I don't know what you want me to do about this and you need to stop critiquing me." I'm sorry, but that was truly an ill-mannered response that I did not deserve to hear. Like I mentioned earlier, and as I mentioned to Joey in person as well, I traveled over an hour to get here and have to travel over an hour back home without a tattoo ($60 each way) -- so I found it pretty offensive that he simply sent me $20 to make me go away and not even acknowledge my presence afterwards as I sat in the parlor for an hour trying to catch an Uber back home. When I opened the door to leave, all he did was look back and glare. I was honestly very excited to get my first tattoo done by Joey as I do love his work, but this experience really left a bad taste in my mouth and I'm glad I didn't get my first tattoo done by someone with such unpleasant energy and customer care. Joey and his assistant need to book appointments more carefully as to not be discourteous towards his customers and treat them with the respect that they deserve. Truly at a loss for words at Joey's awful customer service.... the least he could've done is say "I'm sorry." -- was that so hard? I hope he reflects upon this incident and doesn't treat his customers with such disrespect moving forward, and that no one else has to experience what I did in the future. read more

What's not to love about this place?? As soon as you walk in the door your surrounded by TONS of beautiful hand painted flash designs on the wall. The shop is very spacious and wide open, everyone working was very chill and down to earth. Shon tattooed me and I couldn't be more happy with it. Bold lines, bright color, and an amazing price...I was blown away. I'll def be going back to Shon for all my ink work from now on (with some Pancho pieces thrown into the mix :).
