The "LOSER", tattoo was done here by a regular artist.

This tattoo joint is a dime a dozen in Los Angeles, if you're in town looking for a reasonably priced place with talented work look no further. The staff here are knowledgeable and are pretty damn accommodating to their customers. Best part? They have dogs in the place what more can you ask for.

I was a little nervous about getting my first tattoo and did a lot of searching on line and visiting places. I was so lucky when I found Shon and his crew. He was amazing at drawing up some sketches. He used some new type of ink and I never (barely) felt a thing. The shop is right on Melrose in the middle of it all. Parking is pretty good and they even helped feed my meter while I was getting the work done. I'm glad I went here and am taking my gal to get something next week. Thanks

If you're considering a single needle style tatt, BOOK WITH JOEY HILL!!! This was my first tattoo so I was pretty nervous, but he made the entire experience totally breezy and painless. I started chatting him about the concept over Instagram a few weeks prior to my appointment--even though my ideas were kind of abstract, he drafted some different options that were more gorgeous than I could've ever imagined. The parlor itself is an inviting open space decorated with artworks from floor to ceiling, and is very clean. Keep in mind it's cash only. Joey was super nice and patient about any changes I wanted on the tatt size and placement, the aftercare instructions, and answering all of my questions. The process really didn't hurt at all, and The tatt is now healing very nicely! TLDR: Hit up Joey for the single needle style, you will not regret it! And you can Checkout his portfolio on Instagram @joeyhilll :)

I wouldn't review anyone who is anything less than phenomenal. With that said, Joey is your guy to go to for delicate single needle tattoos! I'm so glad that he created my first tattoo, from a rough concept to art that I never even thought of. I knew I wanted something simple but edgy, and I went to the shop nervous about not knowing exactly what I wanted, or not liking the design. I knew what concepts I wanted, but I didn't know what I wanted the whole picture to look like exactly. The way I tried to explain it to Joey overtime sounded complicated, but nonetheless his first sketch was something I've been wanting but never had the right descriptive details to explain. The whole process was a breeze, and Joey did not make me feel uncomfortable for one second. He never rushed me, ensured that the design and placement was 200% what I wanted, made conversation with me while he was doing his work, and kept me pretty relaxed after my first five minute silent panicking lol. For reference, my appointment started at 7:30 PM and we finished everything, from sketching to completion including line and shading, at about 10:00 PM. I will say this: treat your artist right and they will treat you the same! This should go for anyone in the customer service industry, really. But it's probably best to treat your PERMANENT INK artists extra well ;) Thank you again Joey, for an amazing first tattoo experience.

Made an appointment with Daniel Ward and he did not let me down! Threw an idea his way and he sketched out a few options for me and went over each one along with placement suggestions. He was well spoken, prompt and all around a stand up dude throughout the entire process. It turned out better than I had imagined and I am extremely happy with the finished product. I highly suggest booking an appointment with him, you won't be disappointed!

Can't say enough about this tattoo parlor. The tattoo artists are super chill and make you feel at ease. They'll place the stencils on you as many times as you want and not complain about it haha. I had one of my stencils replaced so many times, but my tattoo artist was more than willing to do whatever it took to make me happy. I've been tatted by two artists: Joey Hill, and one other person (I don't know his name ). They were both amazing! Pricing varies, but you're definitely getting what you paid for. My fine line tattoos haven't faded at all! I'm so beyond happy with my dainty tattoos, and I don't think I'll be visiting another tattoo shop besides this one. Come here if you need crazy talented people to put art on your body!!

I got this tattoo back in February and it quickly faded and soon realized how overall bad of a piece it turned out to be. None of the lines are straight, clearly the bottom right is much more thick than everything else, none of the corners come together nicely, the inner lines are completely faded. paid $100+ for this and I am so disappointed that I have to go get it completely redone at a different shop. Recommend taking your business elsewhere.

Daniel is the artist you want, only Daniel will do. He's an angel, when he was an angel his name was Daniel, right now, in this incarnation m, he's folding up his wings and simply made himself known as a tattoo artist in order to help the world. Mine was slow and painful but at the end very satisfying. I don't know why I did what I did but it sure was good to have it fine properly. Highly recommended.

    more bad linework

my tattoos just healed and they're absolute shit. already spent $120 on tiny finger tattoos just for them to turn out like this. it's honestly impressive. i know finger tatts fade but these literally just healed.

Right leg: incorrect line work, It doesn't have an ankle like the other three limbs. Right foot only has three digits instead of four.
    Carol A.

Got two tattoos here a few days ago (walked in no appointment) I guess it's my fault for going to a walk in place and not thoroughly inspecting the tattoo before he started. I didn't notice till I got home my axolotl had three major mistakes on it's leg, the leg had no ankle, the foot was missing a digit and the line to the back leg was curved instead of straight making it look like the leg was flexing outwards which anatomically makes zero sense. I gave the artist (shon) a photo to sketch the exact shape onto his tracing paper no idea how he messed up those three things with the reference photo there to draw off of. So major bummer, not sure what I will need to do to the tattoo to fix it now. Then the second tattoo I showed him the reference photo and he straight up was too lazy to do it because it had shading in it. Another artist Niko was looking for other reference photos of something that was similar and simpler. It was a scale. I mean I do like the scale that we ended up picking out but it was very strange to me how they straight up were too lazy to do the first photo because there was a small amount of shading. I definitely won't be back. Make sure you stand up for what you want and don't make the same mistake as I did and not really look over every detail of the stencil before they start.

Custom design brought in by me. Tattooed by Shon.
    Andrew W.

The only reason I made this Yelp account was to give props to Shon and his shop. I've been tattooed by him twice now, and each time I brought in custom work, he's made it even better. Although I've only been tattooed by Shon (the owner) at High Seas, I wouldn't have any issue getting tattooed by anyone else at the shop either. Everyone's line and colour work is seriously top notch and the walls covered with their flash should be an easy indication that this is the #1 spot to get traditional work done. No stuck up wannabe-artsy-hipster-art school-dropouts here; just cool guys with tons of experience ready to give you your next favorite tattoo. Ps. Check the High Seas IG account regularly because Shon brings in some pretty awesome visiting artists.

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and immediately made to feel at ease. The shop itself is very clean and welcoming. The jewelry is beautifully displayed. I just wish I remembered the name of the woman who helped us because she made such an impression. She walked us through all the options at different price points in a way that felt completely neutral and respectful. There was no subtle steering toward something more expensive. It genuinely felt like whatever we chose was the right choice. Ivy, my piercer, was incredibly thorough and precise. I really want to stress how pleasant and painless this piercing was. I am talking pain level 0 out of 10. I AM NOT MAKING THAT UP. She is extremely clean in her process and talked me through every step so I always knew what was happening. The room itself felt like a doctor's office in terms of cleanliness and professionalism. I wanted to write this because there aren't many reviews here about septum piercings specifically. When I was searching for where I wanted to go, Oak and Poppy kept coming up but I didn't see many septum reviews. Ivy is a true professional in this work. It's clear she knows exactly what she's doing. The staff cares about the customer's experience and it shows every step of the way. If you're looking for a septum piercing and want an experience that feels comfortable, this is the place to go! Thank you Ivy! Thank you Oak and Poppy!

My husband and I got matching tattoos here and for the tattoo itself it's 3 stars. Today, it has been 3 days since we got the tattoo and although the tattoo itself is small, has fine lines, and is on the wrist, it appears as if it has a smear/smudge on one of the corners on both tattoos. This isn't my first tattoo, and my husband and I have been following the after care and have been careful. It's on the healing stage, but you can tell that the corner line differs and there is a smudged area on both tattoos. For both these it was $240 total and done by Chris. I will update this review once the tattoos heal completely.
