Vegetable soup
Dawn B.

I haven't spent a lot of time at cafes lately, one reason is that many of the items aren't really made in-house and you can taste that it came premade/prepackaged. Hungry cafe brings me back to what I loved historically about cafes. All of the food is made with love and fresh. You can taste the freshness of the arugula which is paired with many of their dishes. The chickpea confit had a wonderful slow-cooked, almost smokey flavor, paired with a delicious side of carrot coriander hummus. All the flavors were so complex. We also enjoyed the quiche as it was jam packed with vegetables and paired with the arugula salad. While not pictured here, we ate it too quickly, the salmon toast was a crowd pleaser as well. The chile and roasted tomato flavor really paired well with the dish. The vegetable soup also was a hit. Some bites let the vegetables star in the soup and other times the dill bringing almost a honey flavor stole the show. Not only is the eatery a massive hit and definite stop I'll return to, but the cafe atmosphere is incredible too. The cafe has indoor and outdoor tables, but showing a view of the community center's park. This park is very well designed with plants, bench swings, a slide, and flowers throughout. The staff is also super friendly. Note that there is only one person handling the register and drinks combined, so service is a bit slow at peak ordering times. One person can only do so much and grab the food that's being prepped for service. It will definitely be on of my go-to places going forward.

Wow what a lovely place! I came here to study and it is a large area to study, eat, drink, or just relax. It has a cool menu of Arabic infusion foods as well as breakfast items and coffee bar. I got the oatmeal which was massive and delicious. I also got a hot mocha that was delicious. The lady at the register is also very nice. Lot of outlets everywhere and free WiFi. There is a large parking lot in the back area. Such a cute place will come again!

Love the oatmeal with fruits and the peanut butter, delish! We love the salmon toast and we got to try truffle beets, amazing!!! Need to add to their regular menu. I can't wait to go back again to try more new dishes. No and Ryan are so friendly and the place is so welcoming

The environment is beautiful, the weather is a bit cold, but it is good to sit inside, there are two floors, the inside is very big, it is very good to study in it.

The menu looks fabulous, and the prices are very reasonable for the area. I can't wait to try this new cafe in Bayview!

I'm always hunting for spots like this because I have a weakness for those over-the-top, Instagram-worthy desserts that look like diabetes in a dish. Like most places in this genre, A Buttercup is small, modern, and minimalist with limited seating. If you plan to go, aim for off-hours unless you enjoy waiting in line for sugar. The decor is cute and trendy, perfect for photos if that's part of your dessert ritual. As they say, "you eat with your eyes first," and when it comes to presentation, this place definitely gets an A+. The desserts look stunning and set high expectations. Unfortunately, that's where things started to crumble. It's like going to see your favorite artist live. You've watched the videos, memorized the songs, and paid for the experience. But instead of the electric performance you imagined, you get someone lip-syncing and barely connecting with the crowd. That was this place in dessert form. We ordered the Mango Bingsoo on our first visit, and when it arrived, we were surprised by how small the portion was. The guy next to us even looked over and said, "Whatever that is, I'm getting that next time." He shouldn't have. The Bingsoo looked great but was bland, and the "snow" was more chunky ice than soft shave. The Thai Tea Roti was also not what I expected. It came with Thai tea ice cream and sauce alongside a roti that was fried to a crunch. Interesting idea, just not the best execution. The sauce and ice cream needed a stronger Thai tea flavor to balance the crispy roti, and the flavors never quite came together. Overall, A Buttercup nails the aesthetics but misses the flavor. If you're here for the photos, you'll be happy. If you're here for the taste, you'll leave with a full camera roll and an unsatisfied sweet tooth.

Usual go-to: Mango Sticky Rice Crepe FOOD: 8/10 Everything I've tried throughout multiple visits is pretty good overall. The presentation is beautiful, and the flavors are solid without being overly sweet. I really appreciate that their portions don't feel too heavy, so it's a nice place if you want dessert but don't want to feel overwhelmed afterward. Some items stand out more than others, but overall it's usually a satisfying experience. SERVICE: 8/10 The staff is always friendly and quick. Ordering is easy, and everything comes out promptly. My favorite is when they have their melon flavors, and I was so excited to see cantaloupe back this week! It was just as good as I remembered... fresh, creamy, fruity, and not overly sweet. Their flavors are creative without feeling gimmicky, and everything I've tried has been yummy. They let you sample up to 3 flavors, which definitely helps when you're trying to decide between all the seasonal options. There's usually a pretty long line but it moves fast so I've never felt like I was waiting too long. The staff is always friendly, and the whole experience is worth it. If you're into unique, seasonal flavors, Garden Creamery is definitely a place you'll want to keep coming back to.

The quality of the food is why I'm still giving this place 3 stars. Unfortunately, the service continues to be disappointing. This isn't the first time I've felt this way whenever I visit. We were helped by a female staff member around 2 PM, and she seemed very unfriendly. When I politely asked for a cup, she just stared at me for a moment without saying anything, then turned around to grab one. A simple smile or "of course" would have made a big difference. As a young person, I can easily brush off that kind of attitude. But it made me feel sad for my 90-year-old grandfather, who deserves to be treated with warmth and kindness. Customer service isn't just about getting the order right, it's about making people feel welcome, especially elderly customers. The food is consistently great, but I hope the customer service can improve to match the quality of what they serve.
