Stopped by Creighton's while I was in Diamond Heights, and it has the kind of hometown neighborhood bakery feel that's becoming harder to find. It's a small local spot with friendly service, and I always like supporting businesses that have been part of the community. That said, the pastries left me wanting a little more. Most of the items I tried tasted more like quality store-bought pastries than something baked fresh in-house. One thing I also noticed is that, despite visiting on multiple occasions, I've never gotten that unmistakable aroma of fresh pastries baking when walking through the door--a smell that's usually part of what makes a bakery feel special. The pricing also felt a bit difficult to justify. For pastries that tasted fairly standard, they seemed a little expensive, especially with a Safeway literally next door where you can find similar offerings for less. If everything were clearly made fresh on-site, I'd have no problem paying the premium, but that wasn't the impression I came away with. Overall, I think Creighton's is perfectly fine if you're already in the neighborhood and want to support a local business or grab a quick pastry and coffee. Wanted a banh mi in the early morning and decided to give this place a try. Unfortunately I had too many problems with it. The sandwich length is quite long and they don't cut it in half, so if you're not eating it at home, it may be quite difficult. I got the combo pork and I was not used to the flavoring being so sour (hopefully the meat wasn't bad), the carrots had no sweetness in the pickling, and the paté wasn't very umami. The bread was also sourdough like and chewy. The flavors weren't there for me and I'm hoping I don't get sick and that their pork is just more acidic tasting. I don't think I'd come back. read more

Stopped in after my pet's vet appointment because I was starving and needed something quick. We ordered two sandwiches, the combo and the pork banh mi, so my husband and I could share and get a taste of both. I've definitely had better banh mis. The pâté in the combo looked and tasted like liverwurst straight from a can and was simply spread on, which wasn't very appealing. The pork banh mi was very salty, and I even pulled out some of the meat from the combo because it was so fatty. Honestly, the bread ended up being the best part of both sandwiches. It filled the immediate hunger, but it's not something I'd go out of my way for again, especially with so many good banh mi options in San Francisco. read more

I just found my new fave bahn mi spot! I did a short hike in the area and came across this spot since it was near by. Located in a plaza (with parking since it's next to Safeway) it's easy to simply walk past this place. The spot is pretty small, more like a quick pick me up for coffee and pastries, and there's a couple of seating inside. My bahn mi took a while to made, and it was absolutely WORTH IT. The difference is the bread. It was fresh, crispy, and made the pork extra delicious. The sauce made every bite sooo good and I honestly didn't want this sandwich to end! Pretty solid spot for pastries. Walked in as I was shopping at the nearby Safeway and wanted a sweet snack. Grabbed two donuts a sugar and glazed and of the two I would say the sugar had more flavor and crunch. These donuts are seriously fluffy and have height! Did you know Creighton is Carol Burnett's middle name? Anyway, this is quite a little unassuming bakery cafe. It's not the type of place I would search high and low for, but to say it's anything less than serviceable would be just plain mean. I have a feeling most of their customers live within walking distance because they have that lived-in tone to their transactions with the seasoned woman behind the register. I come here not because I shop at this particular Safeway but because I usually need a bit of caffeine after scaling the depths of Glen Canyon. I would almost give Creighton one star for selling really old cheesecake. We saw some individual red velvet cheesecake and since this is a rare flavor to find in cheesecake form, we were excited to try it. Once we opened up the container and took a closer look, something seemed off... and the taste proved it -- old, REALLY OLD, cheesecake. So old there was a strange taste and we couldn't eat more than a few bites. Also decided to try their banh mi Vietnamese sandwich -- combo cost $10.50 and is a seriously sad looking shortcut imitation... I can make a better version at home. There was hardly any pate and Vietnamese mayonnaise, so it tasted really dry and bland. There was way too much carrots and hardly any meat slices. Definitely not worth $10.50 Creighton is lucky there isn't much competition in the plaza. From the exterior, it looks promising but once you step inside, there are small details that should've clued me in to save my money. I also felt the boss lady could use some customer service skills. This store would be better off transitioning to a different restaurant. Unless you're desperate because the park is nearby, I would highly advise you go elsewhere read more

The woman behind the counter is extremely rude. A few months back, I walked my bicycle into a completely empty restaurant to order a coffee to go. The woman ordered me to leave my bike outside first. Yesterday, after ordering a full lunch, I walked to the coffee bar to top of my coffee that was getting cold. The lady said, "one dollar." I left my coffee cup on the counter, half full from what I already purchased, and she said, "You can't return it." I walked out. The Creighton's on Portola has a totally different and welcoming atmosphere. I will only go there still and never return to this Creighton's. Creighton's is a small mom and pop coffee shop/bakery in the Diamond Heights shopping center complex. The coffee is OK and the pastry/food options are pretty good. They have a wide variety of sweets/pastry options (fruit turnovers, cookies, macaroons) and savory options as well (meat pies, bagels, sandwiches). Everything I have tried here (mostly the sweets/pastries) has been OK, but no stand-out items really. The inside is pretty basic and could use an update, but they have some nice sidewalk seating outside. Not really a destination, but this place is a convenient pit stop if you need to grab a quick coffee and bagel and you happen to be in the Diamond Heights shopping center (after a Safeway visit or a visit to Christopher meadow). read more

This is the type of local business I support. The owners Moi and her husband seem to be here at all hours, seven days a week. Their daughter assists every so often. They all work hard and quick. The cafe is small with some inside booths and tables and a couple of small outside tables, always clean. Usually not too busy but it occasionally gets packed on Saturday mornings with parents, kids and strollers. Moi and her husband handle all drink and deli orders efficiently and with a smile. They hung in during the pandemic even though business was tough and deserve our continuing patronage. Straight ahead as you enter the cafe there is a display case of pastries and cookies with a cold drink refrigerator on the right side of the store. Also some self serve coffee urns left of the cash register. Definitely wheelchair friendly doorway and tables. Moi greets you at the front counter making all the coffee, tea and Italian soda drinks doing a very good job of creating whatever you desire. Pastries and cookies are ok, apple fritter is good, nice selection of muffins that aren't bad although a tad too sweet for me although I still indulge every so often. Surprisingly, their sandwiches and salads are better than you would expect, much better than the nearby Safeway deli. Moi takes the orders and her husband promptly makes them in the back kitchen. My favorites are the Bahn Mi sandwiches (not traditional but tasty good fillings, large soft roll, heated), roast beef sandwich and chicken apple sausage roll. They make hot breakfast items but I have not tried those. Prices are reasonable for everything. This is a great little shopping center with a post office, veterinary office, Jensen's mailbox office, Bank of America ATM next to the vet and a drive thru ATM, Safeway and a Walgreens, a new sushi restaurant and a Chinese restaurant with a small Chinese takeout steam table type outlet below the Chinese restaurant. There is an attorney upstairs who also heads Urban Angels charity that does great work collecting clothing and other donations for those in need. Kudos to them. After shopping at Walgreen's or Safeway sometimes you just need a little pick me up and a nice ice coffee made by Moi does the job. Plenty of parking. I have had no feelings of being unsafe in this area as there are always people around including recruits and officers from the nearby SFPD training academy and many dog walkers and parents using the next door playground. I prefer spending my money here at a local shop with hard working friendly local people rather than at the Starbucks inside Safeway or the Safeway deli. Nothing against Starbucks or Safeway but I want to support community members. BTW, I never ate their sandwiches until a few years ago when I ran across the retired owners Danny and Tom of their now closed and lamented Andiamo deli on Diamond Street in Noe Valley. These guys knew food and sandwiches and multiple times I saw them eating sandwiches while schmoozing with their friends. They gave me the thumbs up on the sandwiches and they were right. Food okay. I was 2nd in line to order. I noticed about 4 customers behind me. Only 1 person taking orders and serving food to customers. After I ordered my to go food, I asked for my receipt, the lady seemed annoyed when I asked for my receipt. I noticed some customers behind me talking to the server. The server seemed very friendly to them. I waited at least 1/2 hour to get my to go order. I noticed that the customers that was behind me in line got their orders before I did. When I asked the server where my order is and why customers behind me in line got theirs first, she replied: "I know my number". She then went to the kitchen and got my order. I truly love the mom and pop shops and believe we all need to do a little more to support the small businesses. I had a Chicken Banh Mi that was absolutely delicious. The mix of flavors was perfect, and I like it spicy, so I added some extra jalapeños. The bread was fresh baked. I would recommend it! I had a cookie and a macaroon for dessert, and they had specialty cookies that top Crumbl cookies, in my opinion. They included the bear claws and apple turnovers etc. Not too sure how I feel about this place hence the 3 stars.
