Highland Noodles in Frisco was really good! We had two extras with us today, which meant we got to try a TON of things and honestly, there were still so many more we wanted to order! We started with the golden hot buns, edamame, pork and chive dumplings, and golden fried buns. Everything was fantastic...with one exception. The edamame comes with sugar instead of salt, and that one just wasn't for us. For our meals, we had General Tso's Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken, Mongolian Beef Noodles, and Braised Beef Noodles. The General Tso's was one of my favorites, the sauce was bold, slightly sweet, and had just enough heat. The Sesame Chicken was really good too, a little sweeter and milder but still had a tiny kick. The Kung Pao Chicken was definitely a favorite at the table! It had so much flavor and a nice little spice to it. The Mongolian Beef Noodles were savory and really good, and the Braised Beef Noodles had a deep, rich flavor with a really tasty broth. Most of us chose the wide, flat noodles, and I would absolutely get those again. They soaked up all that sauce so well! And apparently scissors are part of the noodle-eating experience. It seemed a little odd at first, but it was actually kind of fun and definitely something different! The restaurant was quiet, very clean, and the staff was incredibly friendly. Our waitress was a young girl who was just the sweetest. And, as is standard for me, I asked her what her favorites were. She recommended several things and was so personable and helpful. Even as we were leaving, everyone told us thank you and goodbye. Little things like that make such a difference. And one completely random thing that deserves a mention...they give you individually wrapped flossers at the end of your meal. My family and I were doing a staycation in Frisco and didn't realize how early restaurants nearby closed. Thank goodness for Highland Noodles! We arrived right as the kitchen was about to close, but they still graciously seated us and provided amazing, welcoming service. The restaurant was also incredibly clean. There is a QR code for the menu you scan with your phone. The food was fantastic across the board. The congee was pure comfort food, and the sesame balls were some of the absolute best I've ever had. They were served nice and warm, the filling wasn't overly sweet, and they weren't greasy at all like a lot of other places. We hadn't been to this noodle place in a long time. We love hand-pulled noodles for their freshness and chewiness. The last time we were here, we got the braised beef noodle soup. The beef was so flavorful, and we loved it. So this time, we ordered it again. This time, we also tried the pork noodle soup. The pork was flavorful as well. It was pork belly, so the fat made the meat even more tender and savory. Both dishes were delicious! But of the two, we still liked the beef option better. The ordering process was completely digital. We scanned the menu code with our phones and then selected our dishes ourselves. There was very little "human" touch. We got here at 1:36 and it 2:44 and we were STILL waiting on two items for our meals. They did not seem to care and still expected a good tip. We got our appetizer LAST. I tried to cancel the appetizer order and they actually refused when I was asking for to go boxes as several of us had been done with our food for over 20 minutes. We came to Highland Noodles in Frisco on July 4th to celebrate America's birthday. Highland Noodles is located in a strip mall area that resembles a mini Chinatown with many Asian food options. Ambiance: Highland Noodles has an open concept and there is divided space in the restaurant except for the booths along the walls. They have 3 TVs over an open glass kitchen where you can see the chefs preparing the food. The open concept is nice and inviting. Parking: Parking is not an issue here as the strip mall area has plenty of free parking aliens the restaurant. Service: The service is very good. Our waters were always full and our table was cleaned of finished dishes immediately. Food: Highland Noodles has a digital menu and you order for your table from your phone which is convenient. They know your table based on the table number and QR code you scan. We ordered the below dishes: Beef Noodle Soup: Tge beef noodle soup was delicious and had hand cut noodles and a good amount of beef. The broth wasn't too salty yet still had a lot of flavor. Mongolian Beef Hand Cut Noodles: this dish had their hand cut noodles topped with Mongolian Beef. These were the same hand cut noodles that the beef noodle soup had and topped with Mongolian beef, the dish was flavorful and massive in size. Chicken and Corn Steamed Dumplings: The chicken and corn dumplings had a lot of flavor and came with a side of hot chili oil for dipping. The chicken was seasoned well and the dumpling wrapper was super thin but full of meat! Xiao Long Bao: the soup dumplings came with 5 dumplings per order and had a side of vinegar. This was not our favorite dish. The broth was light on flavor but if you're craving soup dumplings, this will cure your craving. Dry Fried String Beans: This was one of our favorite dishes. The string beans were crisp yet soft and had so much flavor from the garlic and a little bit of kick from the Sichuan peppers. Would definitely recommend ordering these! Sichuan Wontons in chili oil: the wontons in chili oil were good. The wrapper on the wontons was super thin and full of meat. The Sichuan flavor was good but not super spicy so if you're looking for spice, ask them to spice it up for you more than normal. Salted Egg Yolk Buns: for July 4th, we got a free order of salted egg yolk buns and these were delicious and not just because they were free! These were so good! The salted yolk in the middle was the perfect balance of salty and sweet and the bun was super soft. Do not leave without trying these! I highly recommend Highland Noodles for their reasonable prices, delicious food and large serving portions. We were so full when we left. Their food is made to order and is packed with great flavor. It was amazing and near perfect every time I had it before but the meat was full of cartilage and fat, making it difficult to eat and enjoy. It was actually pretty bad. Broth was fine but I had to spit out the crappy parts every bite. This dish and mostly everything else was overly priced for what it is. I recently had this in nyc for a few dollars less! There was some mysterious ingredient in my noodles that I think was a vegetable, but I wasn't brave enough to confirm. The veggies were alright, noodles did their job, and the service was genuinely nice -- smiles, refills, the whole deal. The ambiance? Also nice! Cozy enough that I almost forgot about the noodle mystery. I'll definitely come back to test-drive some other dishes from the menu. The signature noodle with hand cut noodles was one of the best bowls of noodle I've had in a long time. The noodles had a good bite, the beef was delicious, and the broth was super flavorful. Pork soup dumplings were okay. Spicy beef noodle on the fire pot was spicy and good if you're looking for a kick! I do wish it came with more beef in it though I went on a Sunday around 6pm and unfortunately a lot of their items were sold out... which sorta sucks. It was my friend and I's first visit and we sure gave our waiter a time trying to decide what to order! He was absolutely amazing and extremely patient as we both asked questions of the various items on the menu. (I wish I would have gotten his name!) I finally settled with the Spicy Beef Noodles with wide flat noodles and I could not have been happier with my choice. We also got some fried dumplings and they were equally phenomenal. I did wish there was a bit more beef in my noodles, but what was there was well cooked and flavorful. Instead of waiter service, they have those weird QR codes that you have to scan and then order with your phone. The food was very expensive but totally flavorless. I ordered 1 entree of cumin lamb, but they claimed that I ordered two of them. I told them I didn't order two, but they ignored me and left both at my table and charged me for both. The lamb was mostly fat and I couldn't eat most of it. The expensive entrees don't include white rice, which costs $2.50 extra.
