I will never go anywhere but Hilights !!! I am so happy I found it. Jaime is my girl and amazes me every time she does my hair. The staff is always so fun and friendly! Whenever I get the chance I recommend it to someone. You will not regret coming here!! read more

Great salon... Awesome staff... Thanks to Kendra and Melissa for listening to my requests... Can't wait to go back!

I came on a recommendation by a friend and it was great! I got a healthy trim. Very affordable and friendly staff. They're a young team but they have talent and are very sweet. I haven't gotten any color done there so I can't speak to that. But my trim was perfect and at a great price! read more

Okay so I've been to this salon twice and I love it. I love Marium, she is just the cutest and knows how to do my hair, she never tries to make me buy products which I love. I'm sad to see the negative reviews because yes this salon is a bit on the pricey side but ... they use quality products and your always able to see a tier 1 stylist and a lot of them are amazing ! I also met the owner of the salon and she's a total sweet heart and super funny. This salon deff has me as a customer. read more

I live 30 miles from this salon, and there are plenty of salons near me, but I make sure to make the trip to see Mimi for my hair needs. Mimi is such a wonderful person who is kind and always listens to what I want! She knows her stuff when it comes to hair, I always leave so happy with my hair! I highly recommend Hilights, they are all talented and kind! read more

I live nearby and decided last minute during a snowstorm to get a trim. I saw that they had a lot of good reviews compared to the other salons in town. The salon had a comfortable atmosphere and was not pretentious. My stylist was Linda and she did a wonderful job. She was a clear communicator and was very knowledgeable and approachable with questions which put me at ease. This is very important to me because I can never find a stylist that understands how to handle my hair. When I left, I was handed promotional discount and referral coupons, and didn't hesitate to rebook with her. When I got home, my boyfriend said my cut looked great and that I should go more often. Thank you Linda and Hilights Salon. read more

Professional and clean salon with experienced stylists of all levels. Everyone, including the owner, is very sweet. It helps to have stylists with different levels and price ranges. I've tried a couple of the stylists (Mallory, Kendra, etc.) and they're all really great. You just have to find the one who fits with your needs/budget. I've been living in Lyndhurst for over 10 years now and this is the only salon I've stuck to in town. In a town that has a ridiculous surplus of hair salons (and nail salons!), Hilights is an exception. read more

Jaime is amazing and always makes sure that she gives her clients the time and attention they are looking for. I always leave the salon feeling amazing with a boost of confidence! My hair has never been healthier and Jaime will help you find the right products to maintain your color/style. She introduced me to all natural makeup and face masks while I was waiting for my color to process - I am obsessed! I look forward to what new products they will have when I go there. I will forever be a customer, thanks to Jaime. read more

I love love LOVE highlights! I have been getting my hair cut here for about two and half years now. The past two times I have been cut by Gina who is just wonderful. She helped my cut about 8" off my hair and I just loved it. They make you feel so comfortable and are very helpful and expierienced when it comes to stylying, products, and cuts that flatter your face. Making appointments are so easy and they are always very nice on the phone. I have always been so hesitant to get my hair cut because I never seem to like it but so far at Highlights I have yet to be dissapointed. Also great prices for a wash and cut. I don't get my hair colored or highlighted but I hear those prices are good as well- ADG read more

I was very apprehensive coming to a new salon but I am very glad that I did! Kendra is awesome! Really took the time to talk to me about what I wanted and she did an amazing job! Can't wait for my next appointment! read more

After sifting through countless Yelp reviews, I finally settled on Hilights Salon to get my hair and makeup done for a wedding last month. My appointment started right on time, and I was made to feel at home from the get-go. Tricia gave me the beautiful loose, beachy waves I'd asked for, and Erin applied my makeup after carefully considering all the things I'd told her I wanted and didn't want. Their prices were very reasonable--much less than I'd expected to spend that day--I walked out of there in less than an hour and a half, and got compliments on my hair and makeup all day long. Thanks, Hilights! read more

I'm giving hilight salon 5 stars because they truly deserve it! I went in on christmas eve and was greeted right away everyone there was extremely nice! I had an appointment with cassie which I've known since high school and I got to say she did an amazing job! I'm not just saying it because I've known her for a long time but she really did deliver and I'm obsessed with my hair! I went in to get rose gold hair. Unfortunately my hair was not taking the rose gold at first but cassie and I believe her name was melissa made sure I was going to walk out with rose gold hair and I did! I have been getting compliments from left to right! Not only did I get my rose gold hair but when cassie had to take another client I had a couple of the stylists check up on my hair. I love how great they work as a team. They even offered me a bagel and a drink. They were extremely generous. It really felt like a good environment to be in and due to that i definitely will be paying them a visit when I need my hair done. I was also observing other people getting their hair done and they all left with smiles! I love my rose gold hair so much I can't wait to go back and go even lighter! Thankkk youu again! If you ladies out there are looking for a good salon to go to I would highly recommend hilight salon! You'll be missing out if you don't! read more

Hilights Salon - In love with my hair thanks to cassie! Shes great! Make sure to book your hair appointments at hilight salon! - Hair Salons Near Me - Lyndhurst, New Jersey

This is probably the worst hair coloring known to mankind. This was my first visit to this salon. As soon as I got there, everything was a mess. They said my appointment was cancelled, whereas someone had called me 2 days prior to confirm the appointment. Then they set me up with a different stylist. I told her I wanted to touch up my balayage and showed her a picture of what I wanted. While she was doing my hair, she was not listening to me at all or answering my questions. I asked her if my hair was going to look the way I had described and she just said yes it will be fine. Then without checking my hair in the foils, some other girl came and said "let's wash your hair" and I was like "shouldn't Yesenia check?" And she just said it's fine and washed my hair. Yesenia popped back in and said "oh it looks great!" How could she tell it looked great without even blow drying it? My hair was wet!!! Then they put some toner/glaze into my hair and I had no idea what color it was. Now a different stylist began to blow dry my hair, because Yesenia left the salon for some reason. I felt really bad for this stylist, because she had no idea what Yesenia did to my hair and she had to suffer with me crying! My hair just had highlights all over!!! It was not balayage and looked horrible!!! I had no roots left!!! I asked her to please fix it and she tried to fix the root but it just became warm/orange in tone. The manager Dina came by and said "your hair doesn't look bad!" In my head I was thinking what the f*#k??? I think they were trying to cover there butts and prevent me from making a scene. I am not a crazy person... I just wanted my hair to look a certain way and if I'm going to pay so much, why should my hair be so ugly?!?! I'm sure anyone could understand that!!! I told the manager Dina that "this was not what I wanted... can you please fix it?" So she tried to fix it, but it was just messed up... on top of all that, some other manager came by to let me know that I still had to pay for the horrific hair job the first stylist did. In the end my hair was still ugly and I ended up paying $200+ for a sh*#ty job. Never going back there again. You can take a look at my pics and let me know if you think it's beautiful haha read more

I've been going to the same hair dresser since I was 3 years old, and wanted to try something new. My friend recommended I try this salon (she came across them on insta) and I made an appointment that day. Little nervous about trying a new hair dresser, but the women who runs the phone recommend Erin. Let me just say a m a z i n g. She is the kindest, most genuine person and works magic on your hair. I absolutely loved my hair when she was done with it and can't wait to go back!!! read more

I paid $379 for my first time getting my hair dyed. I asked for a light silver grey and after it was done I looked at a photo of it. It wasn't really grey. It was more blue and had some blonde streaks. Not really what I wanted. They said that it would take around 4 hours to do but I ended up leaving in 7 hours instead. They never told me how to take care of it either. My overall experience was okay. Employees are polite but my hair washed out in a week and turned green. read more

I always have trouble finding a good spot to get my haircut for a fair price and an actual good, male haircut. You'd think cutting mens hair would be easier, but from experience, most stylists don't know what they're doing. Hilights finally answered my prayers. This place is more than fairly priced for the haircut you receive and the stylists and owner are very friendly and attentive. They do whatever you ask and always know what to do if you just want something different. The owner Tricia is super friendly and nice and you will actually. look forward to going in and getting a haircut. I highly recommend this salon. And guys, don't be afraid by the "salon" title and think it will be too girly for you... there are plenty of men that go here and you can shoot the breeze with any of the stylists with ease! read more

Came here for the first time yesterday. A coworker of mine gets her hair done here, so when I saw a Groupon for full highlights, hair cut, and blow dry, I jumped on it. Melissa did my hair, I think she is one of the more junior level girls there but she was amazing!! She explained everything she was doing (but not in an annoying way) and I had a really enjoyable experience. My hair looks great! I was always so sick of hair stylists trying to up-sell all their conditioners and shampoos and it usually annoys me. Melissa actually explained to me why $3 drug store hair products aren't the greatest and I really appreciated it and bought a couple products. I've never had a hair salon or stylist that I've liked enough to consistently go back to, but I already made my next appointment before leaving. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this salon and everyone who works there! I live in Manhattan and have a lot of famous salons at my disposal...but I prefer going to Hilights! I'm new to this area and needed a place to retouch my hair, style it, and do my make up for my civil wedding. I entrusted Hilights Salon with my important day and without a doubt I have made the best choice. Erin preformed a miracle in 3 hours and 15 minutes. I am definitely recommending my friends and family to Hilights Salon because not only did I have exactly want I wanted in short amount of time but the level of professionalism is wonderful. I do not write reviews to any place unless it warrants the recognition it deserves and Hilights Salon completely does. Erin had to deal with a badly dyed hair that was needed to be done weeks ago plus my hair is thick and long. Plus the makeup she did on was perfect. Everyone loved it. I am definitely going to be a regular customer. Thank you so much ladies!!! read more

I've gone to Hilights twice now after deciding I couldn't afford the city salon prices anymore. Both times, I left feeling young, spunky and beautiful. I'm shocked that I don't see any kudos for Mallory on here. She's a tiny little thing, but she is great. I, admittedly, haven't had any color done, but I'm pretty particular about my hair and Mallory made it look and feel soft and healthy. She gave it bounce and I left with soft, shiny, bouncy hair that held for three days! I don't know what kind of products she used, but I woke up with pretty hair for days after. Will definitely continue to go to this salon and will always ask for Mallory. Prices are great and everyone has been super friendly and accommodating. (Again, I've only had cut and style done, so if you're going for color, I can't comment). read more

Very disappointed with this place. I wasn't sure to write for a while but I really don't want another person have the same experience as me. First time I went to this place to get my hair cut and half balayage, it ended up HORRIBLE !! She totally get me wrong with cutting style and color. I can understand 1 thing to become wrong but I really don't understand how can she make wrong all the way even I have shown pictures. First of all, when she done with my hair I didnt like it because it came out dark which is not what I want. was not even close and then She tried to fix it and glazed it second time. Came out a mess !! she left me "unknown creation color" Of course I did not like it, but all she has to tell me that if I want to get my hair to be blond I was needing to see her at least 2 more times. And each time suppose to pay almost $200. So this is something that customer needs to be inform before the process not after when it's too late. After I went home I called them and tell them how I am upset with my hair and needs to be fix urgently. Then they gave me another appt with another person. She was nice but she wasn't even want to touch my hair from the beginning. I went to hair salon 1 day before appt just to show her my hair and tried to explain how I want to my hair. And all she has to tell me that she has another customers that day on my appt day and she can not do anything long on my hair which means she can only glaze it. Fine !! But it is very unprofessional. If somebody requesting recover it has to be book for proper time and get it done accordingly. And I did not even talk about my cutting style yet. I had long hair before I go there and I have shown her round cutting style in the back, and all I got a straight cut in the back with little shape in the front. First, They defend themselves as I had dark hair on my first visit and thats why they could not go far in the first day. Which is totally lie!!. I had half highlighted hair but 1 year old. All I want to get refresh on my hair since I already have highlight. And after I went my second time they came up with that she didn't want to ruin my hair in the beginning because I had highlight. Very frustrating !! Eventual, I have paid $260, plus 3 days visiting and they left my hair big mess. It was a disaster. I had more then 3 colors on my hair. Never be back and Do not recommend to anyone. read more

came in today for highlights, a cut and blow out...used annalyse... going from dark ugly brown boxed hair...i showed her a picture of where i wanted to end up. expecting it to take more than 1 visit ...i was shocked and pleasantly surprised when i saw the finished product...its exactly what i wanted...you nailed it!!! thank you so much...already have my next appointment set up... :) read more

I love having a salon I can go to, tell them I want something different, tell them The length I want my hair and getting the perfect result. Tricia DiFranco is my stylist and I have no complaints about anything she has ever done. I live an hour and a half away and still come to Hilights, because I wouldn't dare go anywhere else. Love this salon! I've been looking for a new place ever since moving and hadn't been able to find anywhere I loved until giving Hilights a try. On a whim, I called for a same day appointment and was lucky to get one. The girl on the phone was super sweet and helpful. I was scheduled with Melissa for highlights and a haircut. Upon arriving, I was greeted immediately and everyone there was friendly and welcoming. They offered water, coffee, magazines, etc multiple times and really wanted to make sure you are comfortable. Melissa chatted with me and was super patient (I'm so indecisive!) until we came up with a plan and I was extremely happy with the results. A few weeks later, I also made an appointment for curls and makeup for a wedding I was attending. Deena did such a great job and I got so many compliments on my hair and makeup that night! The girls here explain and recommend the products the salon sells but are not pushy about them at all. If you want to try, you know the details of what you are trying and if you don't they're ok with that too! Overall, this is for sure my new go-to salon for all of my hair and makeup needs! read more

I have never gone out of my way to write a review, however with my experience here I had to mention how great it was. As a first time client I met with Melissa. She was so friendly and inviting she made me feel very comfortable. I had a bit of a color mishap with sun-in. (I know who still uses sun-in) Melissa was extremely knowledgable and was able to fix my hair and give me beautiful blonde hair! I highly recommend Melissa! I will definitely be going back! Every hair dresser here does such amazing work and is consistent, which to me is the most important thing when it comes to my hair.

Last week I walked into Hilights Salon after reading reviews online and had my hair highlighted by Cassie and it came out better than expected. Yesterday I went back for a cut and again she did a great job. The Salon is very nice and everyone in there is welcoming. Prices are in line with other salons in the area. Cassie took her time with my cut to make sure she wasn't cutting too much off which is great and she gave a great blow out too! If you are looking for a new salon, this is it, call Cassie, would definitely recommend her! read more

I went to Hilights Salon after a friend recommended me. And I highly recommend it too!! I had gone through getting my hair done by someone at another salon and it didn't go well-- poor job for quite the price. (This was the first time ever dying my hair.) I didn't get what I paid for so I went back to get it "fixed" for free and still it wasn't what I asked for. After skepticism about whether I should even try again to fix my hair, I booked an appointment with Cassie and she did an absolutely wonderful job! I got exactly what I was looking for all in one session and for an amazing reasonable price. I am so happy with the work she did that I'll definitely become a frequent client. Great place and great atmosphere there too. read more

Will definitely be coming back for another one! read more

Beware: Poor Business Practices. Be careful when making your appointment here. When you inquire about this salon's services, they will tell you a lower price in order to get your business. Then after your service is complete, they will charge you a higher price with no valid explanation as to why. The front desk staff is dishonest and poorly trained. They pass the blame on each-other rather than correcting their mistake and making the situation right. Zero regard for customers here. After making me pay the higher price, I was told that two managers would contact me the next day to discuss and process a credit. Needless to say, I never heard from anyone. If you're looking for classy, this is not the place to go. read more

"you declined the root touch up, again for financial means" - Clearly as you stated - I have been to your salon 5 times - does that mean I can't financially afford it??!! This comment of yours clearly shows how much you respect your clients. I did not go through the plan to go "gray" because I changed my mind and was not ready for it NOT because I could not afford it! It is pretty low to comment on someone's financial status just because they did not buy something from your business. I hope all reader's can see this review before they go to your business. And if I was a regular client WHY did you NOT try to make sure that I was satisfied - Is this how you treat your "REGULAR"clients? By saying that they can't financially afford your services if they ever complain? AND please tell me where someone pays more than $125 + tip - to refresh their SINGLE PROCESS (as you told me) and come BACK home with GREY ROOTS!!! According to your reply if I had decided to not go through wit transitioning to grey because I "could not financially afford it" then WHY would I make another appointment for hair color with a "cheaper" stylist, pay $125 and STILL come home with the grey hair that I never wanted in the first place. I am kind of baffled at your explanation or rather sad excuse for poor service- which from other posts seems to be a trend. From my search on the internet - Single Process means that a new color or toner is applied all over to create a new base color. The hair is lifted and deposited in one easy step. It's the most common out of the two, and it's Wonderful for COVERING GRAYs and adding shininess to dull hair. FYI your stylist Yersenia NEVER called me back! read more

Just moved to the area....after a couple of months I needed to find a new hair colorist. With the name "Hilights" I didn't think I could go wrong. Went in to have my highlights touched up....never went back. They should think about changing their name. read more

I have to say, salon was much better when Gina owned it. Tricia is not owner material at all, very unprofessional for the prices she's charging. If I'm paying 300$ for Hilights and a haircut it should be the best experience of my life! I shouldn't be paying for Hilights 5 inches away from the root and her assistant to put on my color. She overcharged for the quality of work she provides and is tarnishing the name of the salon. Wasn't happy, won't be going back, wouldn't reccomend. read more

I was here a few weeks ago. Their charges are very unreasonable now! I have been to this salon a few times, but this time I was charged double the price. Why..because the hair stylist got promoted. Shouldn't they inform us of the price changes when we make an appointment . I feel cheated.... for a haircut, rather a trim, that took less than 5 mins..I paid a lot. And, I had to wait for 20 mins in spite of making appointment several days before! More important, I asked to trim a inch and she trimmed less than a quarter inch. My hair looks no different and I still have the split ends! I was running late and did not have time to ask her to trim bit more after she was done..as she made me wait for 20 mins to start with. Whats the point in spending time and money when there is absolutely no difference in the hair...I am not going to this salon again!! read more

I've been going to Deena for the last year and she has made my hair so much healthier. From coloring to cuts, this salon knows what they're doing. Everyone is friendly and warm, the environment overall is just great. Also, it is cheaper than other salons in the area, but the quality of work is better. Everyone there, not just Deena, will listen to what you want and work to make you happy. They also remember who you are, which makes me feel confident in saying this place is as good as it gets. read more

Was going back and forth between leaving review or just letting it go but at the end decided that I wish I had known this before I went in. Here is my experience - I stopped by the salon first time for blow dry just passing by and it was great - I was very happy with the service and the result. A while after I was looking to change my hair color and decided to go back. I needed full head highlight so made an consultation appointment with specialist to discuss options and costs. My hair was a challenge so I didn't expect miracle and was ready to spend more money for quality service. Upon coming in I was told that they have different levels of experience hairdressers and that I will be getting highest level. The estimate I got was $245 for whole head. I made appointment and they asked me for $50 deposit. At the day of the appointment I came in and hairdresser was abt 15 min late and was shadowed by trainee who seemed to be fresh out of high school. Hair was processed and colored however 50% of the work was done by the trainee while highest level stylist (think top $$) was out doing something else (assume someone's else hair) All process took few hours and result was mediocre but as I already mention I didn't expect miracles. So I come to check out and am told that final bill is $275. I'm thinking "ok, so we only went $30 over the estimate, not too bad" than I ask receptionist to apply the $50 deposit and this is when she tells me that $275 is "including the 50 discount". Frankly at this point I'm a bit confused... did she just say that she is discounting my money with my money? Yes she did! They tried to trick me into saying that total is $275 when in reality it was $325! I don't know if she would have mentioned this to me if I didn't ask At that point I'm feeling a little eaky abt this experience but I ask her to apply $20 off coupon they gave during first visit blow dry and during second visit consultation.... Well it turns out I can't apply it because "it's not valid on the first time but you can apply it next time you come over"... for the record NOWHERE on a coupon does it say that.... I felt gross.... I still left $60 tip which brought my total for full head highlight performed 50% by experience hair dresser and 50% by girl who barely know basic colors to $385.... So nearly $400 ... and I most defiantly didn't get my money worth.... Just for a record my hair is shoulder length at best so we not talking abt long hair and lots of work Truly disappointed experience and there is no way I'm coming back to that place read more
