Turns out the crowd knew something we didn't. I want to be fair: the staff was very nice, and the food wasn't horrible. Nobody ruined breakfast. Nobody served us something inedible. It was simply disappointing, especially for the price. I ordered the Crème Brûlée French Toast, which sounds like something that ought to make you forget every responsible decision you've ever made before 10 in the morning. It certainly looked impressive when it hit the table--French toast, strawberries, blueberries, whipped cream, syrup, the whole production. Then I ate it. There just wasn't much there beyond the presentation. For something called Crème Brûlée French Toast, I expected rich, decadent, maybe a little crisp caramelized magic somewhere. Instead, it tasted like fairly ordinary French toast dressed up for a night on the town. And it was way overpriced for what it was. Gatlinburg is a tourist town. I understand tourist-town prices. But if you're going to charge premium breakfast prices, the food has to earn them. When one breakfast place has people waiting outside and another a block away has empty tables, sometimes the best restaurant review is already happening on the sidewalk. I continue to dream about this creamy, slightly salty dressing. They should definitely bottle it and sell it!
