Man, I've been to Pigeon Forge numerous times over the decades and I've always stuck to restaurants you see in the main road. Never have I really ventured outside of that and I couldn't actually tell you why. When my kids and I made a quick 1 day Dollywood trip over to Pigeon Forge, 23 we're looking for a place to eat prior to the big day at the park. What's funny is I relied in Googles AI (Gemini) to tell me where to go. I was driving around and was asking for recommendations. It said Mama's Farmhouse was a popular place to eat for families and it was all-you-can-eat. The kids wanted fried chicken and Salisbury steak, which was in the menu for that day. What a coincidence! If I could summarize it, this is basically a local Cracker Barrel-style restaurant but the food is a lot better. It's tucked away off of a side road off of the main highway 321 road and reminds me a lot of the Applebarn Restaurant down the road. The ambiance is this old timey feel, like many of the establishments around the area. The fried chicken (bone-in), chicken tenders, fries catfish, and Salisbury steak was what we ordered for our mains. Everything was delicious! The seasoning had the perfect amount of salt across all the dishes and sides. The chicken was juicy and tender. The Salisbury steak was solid, some of the best I've ever had. Savory, rich brown gravy, and tender chunks of beef. All the sides were amazing too, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, and chicken and dumplings. Upon planning our trip, I was discussing local restaurants and places to eat with my coworkers, one coworker of mine is local to the area and highly suggested this restaurant. The online menu gave plenty of eye candy and we were absolutely starving by the time we arrived Friday evening. The staff was very attentive and kind. It's clear that this place is fully operated by word-of-mouth and return guests. It's a huge establishment with several rooms by big fireplaces and Lazy Susan's to pass around the family style meal. The menu was a little difficult to navigate so many options laid out, but only certain options available per day. So ultimately, we were not able to order exactly what we wanted, but we ordered what was available for Friday, which was the Salisbury steak, fried fish, and fried chicken. All of these meats came in a small portion to split amongst our three people, and with unlimited sides. Some of the sides were pretty impressive. I would have to say my favorite side was the broccoli casserole, followed by the mashed potatoes and gravy, which were real potatoes! The mac & cheese was more on the creamy side versus the gooey cheesy side. Unfortunately, some of our chicken was undercooked, and the skin was very thin and not too crispy. The fish was decent, not dried out whatsoever, which is a pretty good compliment. While my coworker said that the chicken and dumplings were her favorite, I failed to enjoy them :( All in all, this was not our favorite restaurant from our trip this weekend and it appears that big groups and big families really do enjoy dining at this establishment. read more

Walking into Mama's Farmhouse felt like walking into a big Southern kitchen where everyone's already happy to see you. From the moment we sat down, the food just kept coming . fried chicken that was crispy and juicy, fluffy biscuits, creamy mac and cheese, and sides that tasted straight out of someone's grandma's recipe box. Nothing felt rushed, and the staff was genuinely warm and attentive the whole time. And they had fun games to play outside while you wait. We played cornhole and ping pong. It was alot of fun. What really made it special was the atmosphere loud in the best way,we all were going back for seconds. You don't leave hungry, and you definitely don't leave disappointed. The outside is very quaint and appealing. They have a little photo cutout you can use to take photos and an outside game area. The hostess was friendly and welcoming. Our waitress was okay, but the wait staff and kitchen staff were a bit loud - almost yelling at one another to talk and was a small disturbance. The food was okay. It would be nice if they offered the full "meat" menu instead of a portion each day. While I am sure this is due to preventing waste, it's still manageable to offer a larger range to select from than 3 meats. The pricing is average for "all you can eat"; it comes to about $25/person before a tip. As folks who visit Pigeon Forge 3-4 times a year, we had never been to Mama's Farmhouse until this past week. Holy moly. I am so sad that we had never been here before. We went on a weekday morning before 10. We got the breakfast served family style. This started with pinwheels (YUM), jelly/jam, and apples. So so good! We could have as much of anything they brought that we wanted. Our server was excellent and had us in stitches the whole time. It was very reasonably priced in my opinion, considering you could eat all you wanted and kids 5 and below were free. The atmosphere was like being at your mountain grandmas house and it warmed my heart as I looked around at family photos, the little lace valances, and the coziness of the restaurant. To top it off, my daughter was told "if ya eat good, you get to go to the toy box!" Lo and behold, there was a toy chest in the foyer filled with all the trinkets a nearly 4 year old could want. There is plenty of seating inside to wait, as well as seating on the porch, complete with a play area to the side to pass time before or after a meal with family. Every time we have visited in the past, we have done the all-you-can-eat thing, choosing your meats and sides and they're brought out in individual bowls. This time, we went with the Blue Plate option: you choose your meat and sides (2 or 3) and they bring it on one plate. So it's the same food, except smaller portions, and cheaper. We had already decided we wanted a steak for dinner (see my review for The Cherokee Grill in Gatlinburg!) so this portion size was perfect! We got the fried chicken we were craving, but without being too stuffed for dinner that night. Win-win! As usual, service was sweet, fast, and friendly. The food was horrible! The gravy had cornstarch clumps in it and they didn't bring enough of it to equal a half cup for 3 people. The potatoes had hard clumps of burnt pieces of what I can only assume was potatoes! They served a small bowl of summer salad for 3 people to share that held about a cup of cucumbers, cherry tomatoes and onion... this was not good food! Told the manager we were not happy he said "we haven't had any complaints in about a week." He felt this was "good country food" on the up side we didn't have to pay for this slop and we went to the old mill... for about the same price we got good food! read more

The biscuits were good but we didn't care for the syrup that was brought out with them. My drink came out wrong, TWICE (it was just supposed to be a sweet tea and lemonade). My little one spilled his drink because the lid wasn't on all the way and they just left the puddle there at our feet (at least bring me napkins and I will clean it up! But doing nothing is wild to me). and after I let them know about the spill I still had to make another request for him to get a new drink. The chicken was dry, the corn was over cooked, the Salisbury steak was also a bit dry and very small. We were very disappointed. The Mac n cheese was good as was the sweet potatoes and the desserts but my gosh, how can you be a southern momma's kitchen and get so much wrong?? Outstanding family owned spot for breakfast. It's AYCE but it's family style - not a buffet. They bring everything to your table, and as much as you want! Today was our first visit. The entrance was very appealing compared to most other local breakfast places we've eaten in. The waitress was very helpful and patient as we reviewed the extensive menu. Prices were reasonable for the amount of food you get. I had a meal that included very tasty bacon, decent sausage, and country ham that had a taste not to my liking. The rest of my meal was very tasty except I wasn't fond of the grits, which are usually my favorite part of breakfast. The pancakes were a highlight of our meals. So I researched fried chicken places for a while and heard this place was supposed to be great on both Yelp and Reddit...After going there, I can only assume most of these yelp reviews are paid for or were from Yankees who have never had good fried chicken. We were greated by our server, Maggie, who dropped some of our biscuits when she introduced herself. She said she was going to bring replacements. She didn't bother. While I didn't follow up on it because of the amount of other food we got, a server shouldn't be saying they will do something and not doing it. It also meant my youngest daughter didn't get her own biscuit. This seemed to be a theme of the night as Maggie kept bringing out skimpy plates with food for 3 instead of 4 (which was also weird bc other tables seemed to have heaping portions of food). The chicken portions were tiny and I'd have had to ask for 3-4 refill plates if I actually wanted to fill up on chicken (which I didn't, see below). But if this was the worst of it, I'd have been happy. I asked Maggie what her favorite sides were and she said she didn't really eat the food there...this was a red flag that I shouldn't have ignored. And after eating the food, it all made sense. We got our meal: fried chicken, fried fish, and Salisbury steak. The fried chicken just wasn't good. It was lacking salt, and spice generally. I've had better chicken at both Publix and Popeyes. The rest of the food was equally bland. The fish was probably the best of the bunch. The Mac and cheese, sweet potato casserole, Salisbury steak all tasted like something out of a bad buffet. Also, I should say that while I didn't complain to Maggie about any of this, it was because she kinda warned us when she said she didn't eat the food there. She knew. We should have listened. The best way I can describe this place is to say it's a terrible tourist trap...a crappier version of Cracker Barrel with better biscuits. I was angry by the end of the meal, because we've been to great food in this area (Bustin Butts BBQ, and Applewood Farmhouse) and I felt duped with flavorless chicken and bland buffet food. We had a cozy and fun Friendsgiving dinner here. The servers welcomed us with all the delicious hot meals. The cocktails are also really good. The server made lots of good recommendations for desserts (ie. banana bread pudding). All-you-can-eat dinner is $23.99 and it comes with unlimited sides and entrees, 1 choice of dessert. Won't go again. 5/10 stars. Had reservations for party of 12 on thanksgiving. Waited over an hour past reservation time. They were an hour behind on reservations. Staff makes you feel rushed after you get seated, zero smiles or friendliness, small portions come out slowly, which you can ask for more. Turkey and ham are like lunch meat. We dined at Mama's Farmhouse on an early weekend night. When we arrived we noticed a large menu board behind the cashier/counter and church pews in the waiting area. We were seated immediately, since the restaurant wasn't very crowded. At our table was ice tea, lemonade and water pitchers. Since we were with a larger group, the menu was already preset for us but normally you can pick from a menu of several meats and then four sides. It all comes with biscuits and soup. It's all served family style and it's all you can eat!! The biscuits arrived first with a dish of strawberry jelly, I later learned it's strawberry butter! We asked for more but never received any, which is okay because we ate so much food. The biscuits were loaded with butter and were dense and delicious. Next up was our soup order. The options were bean soup or chili. I ordered the bean soup, which arrived next. It was a pretty traditional bean soup but I didn't eat it all in anticipation of my main meal. The three dinner sides that had been chosen were fried chicken, country fried steak and ham. The fried chicken was amazing and oh so filling. I had one small piece but was mostly full at that point. The boys raved about the country fried steak! The ham was okay but the least appealing of all the main courses. The four sides were Mac n cheese, broccoli cheese casserole, green beans and mashed potatoes. The sides were ah-mazing! I kept going back to refill my plate with them. Very traditional but extremely delicious Finally, we had a choice of three desserts, I heard you can have them all if you save room. We did not! I ordered the apple crisp with ice cream and ate all the crisp from the dessert. The other options were banana bread pudding and peach cobbler. All in all, it was a super filling and good dinner! Also, price point is really good. Adults were $22 for dinner. Best advice, skip the soup and go right to the main entrees and sides. Mama's farmhouse is a restaurant that I would return to. The menu was an all you can eat family style. For those of you who don't know what that means.......short version...... pick the meat and sides you want for the entire table. Order more if you run out.  Our table tried their famous fried chicken, the ham, and of course chicken tenders for the kiddies. We had macaroni and cheese, corn on the cob, and chicken and dumplings for the sides. Overall, I really liked the fried chicken. Besides needing a pinch of salt, I love the crispiness of the skin and the moistness of the meat. I didn't like the corn on the cob. Whatever batter they dipped or cooked in, didn't taste good to me. The only side I tried was a chicken and dumpling. It could use a little more chicken.  A pinch of salt and a dab of pepper and this dish was pretty good. Another dish that stole the show were their homemade biscuits. They were great with and without jelly. Nice and fluffy. I may have had three. I saw there was a $12 dinner special for this place so I decided to try it out. My experience is based on being a single diner. The restaurant is cute and I like how it's decorated. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming and my server was excellent. Regardless of how many people, 3 meats and 4 sides are brought to the table-just the amount differs. You can get more food or change the sides when you get extras. You also get biscuits and jelly plus a dessert. Now as a solo guest, this was a ridiculous amount of food. I didn't see anything on the menu that you can't bring your leftovers so I was expecting to take home the over 1/2 that I didn't eat. Since it's all you can eat, they don't allow you to bring leftovers. I could understand if I'd gotten multiple rounds of food but since it was just the initial food that came, it wasn't like I was taking extra just to be able to bring it home. Wasting that amount of food really makes me feel horrible. For that reason alone, I won't be back. The food was all going in the trash anyhow so why not let me take it? The fried chicken was decent, nothing else was all that great. The Salisbury steak could have been warmer, the fish was not fried to a nice crispy but more mushy. The Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes were goopy and bland. The green beans had an unpleasant taste, like someone was cooking them while smoking a cigarette. I got the chocolate cobbler for dessert, which I was allowed to take with me. I really enjoyed that. Wasting that much food was incredibly stressful to me. I felt guilty all night and still do. If you are someone who can eat a ton or in a group with someone who can, this would be a better option. I understand it'd be hard to monitor but I do think if you only order one serving and don't request extra food, you should be able to take home the unfinished items. If you like all you can eat buffets but prefer table service, you might enjoy this style of restaurant. read more

Dinner here was like a warm hug from the Mama. All food was served family style. I am a vegetarian so I ate mostly sides. My fav was fried okra and the creamed corn. I also got to sample the mac n cheese, sweet potato casserole and broccoli casserole. Everything was delicious! For desert we got the Peach Cobbler with cinnamon ice cream and the banana pudding. Each of those was home made and mouthwatering delicious. The interiors of the place felt like having dinner at a relative's house. The decor and the curtains were what you'd fine at someone's house. Our server was sweet and made great recommendations. She shared some thoughts about the hiking trails in the area and was very friendly.
