This is a great little pub....and little can mean friendly and cozy or loud and crowded, depending on the night of the week and if Curry College is in session as it's just down the road. The staff is all very friendly and for a small place they have a pretty broad bar selection - I think there's 20-something different vodkas to choose from alone - and maybe 8 different beers on tap. I've only had the pizza and fries here so far, and both were very good and served quickly. The rest of the food, sandwiches, shepherd's pie, burgers, all smell and look delish, so I want to come back for a meal, but it's such a great place to stop for an after-work drink. It's popular with the locals and they keep coming back as most patrons know the staff by name, and Mike & Steve, the owners, know theirs as well. I stopped into this pub a few weeks ago. I've driven by a million times on my way to climb Blue Hills. Parking lot is very small. I went on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty packed for a tiny little bar. Age range from 21 to 71(?). You get the picture. I grabbed a seat at the bar in front of one of their big screen TV's. Ordered a draft (about 8 to choose from) 5 bucks (good pour from the bartender) and ordered the steak tips. Order came out pretty quick and the steak tips were cooked just as ordered and were delicious. Came with fries that were really good and a veggie medley. I was really surprised at the medley. (Usually this scares me cause it's tuff to get everything cooked perfectly) but it was great. Even had some chopped up celery to give it a nice crunch! They have a juke box and the bathroom was clean (although tiny). Bartender was wicked friendly and attentive. Bill came to a little under 20 bucks for 1 draft and the tips. Gonna try a burger on my next visit. read more

My favorite bar. The owners and staff are the best and will know your name after a few visits. I'm consistently pleased with the food here, the pizzas are great (the buffalo chicken is my favorite) and the pastrami sandwich is honestly the best I've ever had. I'm a nerd and always get the same beer, but they have a good selection and always have some seasonal beers on tap. They host Stump Trivia Mondays at 6 (except during the summer), and it's a good time. You might have trouble beating my team though. I suppose The Hillside is the kind of place you really don't want social media to help uncover, though I suspect it would've been tarnished by now if it was going to happen. So, okay, just between you and me. The Hillside is an unpretentious spot with great value food, all seemingly made fresh, and very affordable drinks. Wally's a superb bartender and others are cool, too. No worries about not being a regular either, you won't feel out of place. And, to cite one of my wife's top criteria for any 'quality' dive bar -- it's clean. If you're ever cruising the lower end of Rt 128 and need a pint and a sandwich, sneak into the Hillside. Standard hole in the wall, Irish pub fare. You won't have a bad time but you won't be impressed. If you are looking to unwind after work and have a couple beers and maybe some food then it's a great place to be. Wait staff is nice. If you are a regular there you will get much better service. They have trivia nights on Tuesday from winter til the end of May and then darts league takes over in the spring and summer. Prices are reasonable. P.S. The place can be pretty small. Awesome place to unwind after work with your friends and coworkers in a casual come-as-you-are atmosphere. Parking is a little tough since the intersection there at 138 and Royall Street is a giant cluster-you-know-what, but just don't park in the condos and you will be fine. The bar itself is small, but it is cozy and everyone there on staff is really nice. There aren't many tables and chairs in the establishment, so someone in your party may end up standing, but it's actually not that bad. The appetizers are great for sharing amongst friends and although it's an Irish bar, they have nachos, fries, wings, etc. that is great comfort food. This is a great Friday night hangout after work to wait out traffic on 128 with your friends and coworkers. Most of the people there mingle with their coworkers, but it's certainly worth popping in for a drink or two. read more

Great little pub that you might drive buy without noticing it. These guys pour a great drink, have a super selection of beer and are super quick on the food delivery. Good solid pub food is served in a cozy atmosphere. The place gets packed on Friday afternoon with lots of construction folks so be prepared to stand a bit. Parking is challenging but once inside you will appreciate your efforts to park. PS: If you where there around Memorial Day do not judge the pub by those inside. Great little bar that I hadn't been to in literally a decade. Not much has changed and this is exactly how it should be. We went here to warm up after attending the Pats/Ravens playoff game and got in just in time for some pizzas and wings before the kitchen closed. Many a weeknight drinking festival have begun here. Its where we go to wash away the day, the week, and the crazy people at work. Between Dunkin Brands, Reebok, and Boston Mutual there are always some suits in here! We take over the smallish bar the "top of the hill" around 4pm and clear out around 8pm. Its a great after work spot, close to the highway, convenient, parking is ok, and the servers are quite friendly. They do have food, but I have never had more than fries. And the fries were pretty delicious! Beer selection is good and the vibe is really low key. Its where you want to be when you work in Canton and have had a rough Tuesday. Cheers! read more

Got to our hotel late, discovered the Hillside Pub next door. Walked in starving. Asked Dave working behind the bar if they were still serving food. A gentleman who had stood to the side stepped in and walked us over to a table, sat us down and Immediately made us feel at home. I introduced my family to this Irish Gentleman who's name was Mike. He sent over a wonderful waitress named Lorraine who was as polite and made sure we received food and drink, Mike came and visited with us several times and the evening was a real treat every time he spent a few moments with us. I asked him to translate the Gaelic writing on the menu. "A hundred thousand welcomes" he translated. We went back the night before we had to leave to pay our respect and say good-bye to Mike. He had made us feel so welcome we wanted to express our gratitude. He was off. We were able to speak with Dave and were introduced to our waitress Suzanne who was also wonderful to talk to. Look the food was great, the beverages are all you can ask for and of all the places travelled, Boston, New Hampshire, Vermont and back, the Hillside Pub will always be at the top of a short list of unexpected delights. Stopped in three friends before a Pats game. Food is good for what it is - pub fair. Space is cramped, and tables are small (mostly 24" round high-tops). Waitress has an attitude for sure, she kind of grew on us, and did a decent job taking care of our table. You get the feeling right away that regulars get a different level of service. The 2-star rating came when someone in our party spilled their water on their own lap and floor. Not hard to do given four people eating apps and meals on a 24" round table. The owner (or possibly mgr) came over and proceeded to tell us we spilled the drink on purpose, and gave us all sorts of grief. First off, if we wanted to be a jerk and spill a drink on purpose, we go with soda or beer - not water. Secondly, who wants to spill water all over themselves before a freezing cold Pats game? The whole encounter was absurd and left us dumbfounded. Would go back for the food, but never with this a-hole running the place. Cheers read more

Was attending a football game at Curry College and one of the security officers recommended Hillside. The place was packed so we sat at a small counter waiting for table to open up. The waitress kept an eye out and directed us to a table that would quickly be empty. The service was spot on. We ordered cheeseburgers and pizza - food arrived quickly and was delicious. The place had a fun vibe and once again, the service was excellent. It was a pleasure to visit such a well-run establishment. read more

I tried Hillside Pub and its a very cute little pub and the bartender was really nice but the food was a different story. I ordered a Buffalo Chicken Wrap and most places will make it mild or give you a option, this was rediculously spicey...i was sweating the whole time...so gross! I ate maybe half of it, if that and complained and they only offered to give me something else. So when it came time to leave it was still on my bill...i didn't even tip, i felt horrible but i was kinda pissed that i was actually charged for it! I might try it again...someday... read more

Aye, This is a great local place. The food here is actually surprisingly good too assuming they get your order correct which at times can be seldom. This is quaint small little pub on the Canton Milton border at the foot of the Blue hills. It draws well from the local office park and Curry College which is right down the street. the Menu is standard pub grub and it isa solid place to grab a burger and a beer. The bar is top shelf with some great whiskey and scotch choices. My only suggestion would be to get some music in once and a while. read more
