This was our third time and we have had the same experience every time. The menu has great options, but pricey. If you are going to charge these prices, service should be good. Food was ok, but we should have turned around as soon as we walked in. Never had a hello, because hostess was on the phone. Server never said welcome, never made eye contact, could not be bothered to answer our questions. She took our order and was gone. Never asked how our food was and did not offer drink refills. I had to flag someone down for more water! We felt like we were bothering her and the whole staff. Food under seasoned.Decor is amazing and I can imagine that in its heyday it was the place to be. We had a party of 30 in their separate dining room. We were very pleased. The whole affair was very easy to plan, the food was delicious. And, the service was superb. I came here once about a year again and everything was great from the service to the food. Not today! The service from the waitress was good but the service from the kitchen not so great! The food came out 45 min after for a Medium well burger that came out well done. Specifically on the ticket it states no bacon due to the person being allergic they put bacon anyways. The table next to me asked for medium rare steak and received a rare steak. Not sure about the kitchen staff anymore.... only received a 2 because the waitress tried to make up. read more

First time coming here on a Friday night. Got seated right away. My boyfriend and I ordered the filet with green beans and smashed potatoes and a NY strip with asparagus and smashed potatoes. It was fantastic. Steaks were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Our waitress was very sweet and gave us great service. Bar was quick to make drinks also. The Hilltop Grille has pretty decent steaks, killer artichoke crab dip and great service. The Sunday brunch changes up weekly, which is nice. Their signature crawfish gumbo isn't bad, unless you're from Louisiana. My favorite thing on the menu is their crab cakes. I have eaten at the Hilltop Grill in Athens, GA a couple of times, even hosting a moderate sized party for my daughter when she graduated from UGA. I went by with my son in November 2012 because their website listed a Blue Plate Special for $9.00. There was no mention on any restrictions regarding day or time. The waitress and hostess were unaware of the special even though I showed it to them on my phone but they would not allow us to order it. I contacted the restaurant via email with no satisfaction. Their contact, Chris, emailed me "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, you're nuts, the special refers to a lunch special". I will never spend another dime at that restaurant. read more

We have eaten here for over 20 years and have never had a bad experience. Our daughter had her wedding pre party there and we had a fantastic event! I went there today and had to order a " to go order" but had a salad while I waited. The waitress was so accommodating in letting me order special items on my salad and order from the dinner menu when it was lunch/brunch time. I had a tough time deciding if I wanted brunch or dinner since both are delicious!! I ended up ordering from the dinner menu as I was bringing it home for later. My husband bring a native of Louisiana ordered the crawfish gumbo. Did not add one drop of Tobasco. T was the best gumbo he's ever had. Cooked to perfection. The bacon wrapped shrimp are awesome. My husband and I normally eat brunch or lunch here, which hasn't been bad, the usual fare for midday eating. Most recently we took a chance and had dinner there. Wow were we disappointed. Everything was really pricey and our food was awful. We started with the artichoke dip, small portion, desperately needed seasoning and too thick to be scooped up by the thin tortilla chips it came with. I had the crab au gratin, which tasted like lump crab from a can, it was supposed to be in a sherry cream sauce, it tasted like they dumped crab meat in a bowl and microwaved it with a bit of cheese. It was dry, no sauce and just some stringy cheese. I couldn't finish it. My husband had the shrimp and grits which he said weren't bad, but were rather bland. We noticed mostly everyone else in the restaurant had ordered steak, maybe thats the one good dish they serve for dinner, I definitely wouldn't order any seafood. They're ok for brunch, good for lunch, but I give them a BIG thumbs down for dinner. read more

If I could rate it a negative star, I would! DO NOT GO and DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD! The food was HORRIBLE. Both steaks that were ordered were well under cooked. They were both sent back and still came back under cooked. One of the steaks was inedible. I understand that they did not make the meat. However, they did not offer to replace the steak or allow me to choose something else. I ate one bite of the steak. It was clear that the meat was not edible. The service was the poorest service I have ever received. After the initial food was dropped off, the waitress did not stick around to ask if the steaks were cooked properly or if we needed anything else. It was a full 15 minutes before we were ever able to get someone back to our table. By the time the food that was sent back to be cooked more was returned, the other two people in my party were almost finished with their food. Again, the waitress did not stick around to see if the food was cooked properly the second time. It was not. In the mean time, drink glasses were not refilled and no one else checked on our table. At the end of the meal, I asked for the manager. The manager was just as horrible. I can see why this restaurant is as bad as it is. If this manager is the leader, the rest is going to be junk!!! He had a horrible attitude and was not willing to do anything to make it right. On top of that, when I received my bill, they had added an 18% gratuity to my bill. WHAT??? (1) The service was HORRIBLE! I always leave at least a 10% tip. Even if the service is bad. I feel that they brought me my food and drink. That is worth 10% I guess. I tip 18% for average service. I tip 20% and up for phenomenal service. This service was so bad that I was playing with the idea of not leaving a tip at all! That has never happened before. (2) The policy states that an automatic gratuity is added for parties of seven or more. I had four people on my check. What???? THIS PLACE IS A HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE place to go. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. I wish I had read the reviews before I went. Apparently I am the norm and not the exception. This place needs to go out of business. First, I'd like to say that I love the food, it's excellent. I love the menu selection. I have visited twice: once for lunch, and once for Saturday evening dinner. Both occasions I had the same server, Sarah, who is superb. The food tasted wonderful, and the ambience was perfect. Lovely music, fireplace with a roaring fire, the tables are nicely decorated, and the waiting area is lovely. Here is the only reason I am giving four stars instead of five: as soon as we finished eating, the manager asked my mother to leave because "they needed the table." ( I was in the ladies room). When I came out, my mom told me what happened. Well, our table was re-set, but no one was sitting there, and there were many other empty tables. Considering the price we pay here, and the fact that they are supposed to be geared towards upscale clientele, I thought that was out of line and rude. This happened at lunch time around noon on Wed. 2/29/12, if anyone at the restaurant is reading this review, you need to tell that manager that he's very lucky I came back, and if it happens again, I won't. As it is, now it's on Yelp that you treated a client so rudely, and for no reason at all (i.e. they did NOT need that table). read more

I've been here many times, and last night will be the last. Out of respect for the waiter, I won't state his name. Our family was seated and our waiter came to our table once to take our order. He then came back one more time with our drinks. Then we did not see him until our dinner came out, which was a good 25 minutes later. He wasn't even one of the two servers that brought out our meals. We sat with empty glasses the entire time while waiting for our meal. Once we got our meal, our waiter never even came to our table to ask us how the food was. We finally got refills on our drinks halfway through our dinner. I've never seen such horrible wait service before. The kicker is that there was probably about 5 tables in the whole restaurant, so it's not that they were even busy. The food was mediocre this time. The asparagus was as thin as straw, and way overcooked. My $26 steak was half gristle. I've always enjoyed this restaurant in the past, but after last night I'll never dine here again. read more
