We enjoyed a yummy meal here tonight! We had the rack of lamb which was very good! It includes either rice or nan. The shrimp salad had an amazing dressing on it. How often do I eat in St. Helena...lets say never. So when I was in the area, I needed my trusty friend (Yelp) to give me assistance. The first thing I see is the Sherpa Kitchen, which I was sold already with as I love Indian/Nepalese food!! First and foremost, parking sucks, lets not beat around the bush, other than that getting to the restaurant is not too hard. During a busy weekend before Christmast, it still was pretty open in terms of table availability once we walked in. Once we were seated, we were given a very easy to read menu with our normal favorites, and a few dishes we had never seen before. Before I dive into the menu to far, the aesthetics for the restaurant are pretty average for a Indian/Nepalese (Very low key and relaxing). Anywho, back to the menu, Garlic Basil Naan is a must followed by the Eggplant Masala and Veggie Masala. The menu prices are middle of the road, which I would expect for the area since its wine country and prices are typically 20% higher than other cities nearby. Either way, still in a normal price range for lunch and the serving size is enough to fill you up for lunch and dinner! Both dishes along with the appetizer were quite flavor packed and easily up there with some of our other favorite ethnic restaurants. Located in the heart of St. Helena, Himalayan Sherpa Kitchen offers a bite of spice in between wine tasting excursions. The Mixed Grill Tandoori was a "surf and turf" combination of two huge chunks of leg of lamb, two juicy prawns, and my favorite, a super thick fillet of salmon, all served on a sizzling metal plate with onions and peppers and topped with fresh spinach. Each of the meats had been marinated in yogurt and spices and came out perfectly charred, tender, and flavorful. But I was an even bigger fan of the curry dishes (tarkari). The Machha Ra Bhanta was a curry of tender salmon and eggplant in a garlic ginger sauce, and the Lamb Tikka Masala came with chunks of lamb in a smooth, creamy, tomato-based curry. I ordered both of these medium, and both the dishes came out plenty spicy and flavorful. On the side, the entrees came with a choice of rice or flatbread, and we ordered all three versions of naan: plain, garlic cilantro, and the most unique, the basil cilantro, which came with pesto spread on top, adding an herbaceous, olive oil flavor that paired perfectly with the chewy flatbread! read more

The server was very attentive and accommodating when we sought a dish replacement wanting spicer prep. With three vegetarian and one fishiterian (?), our needs were varied but we left the place well satisfied w no room for any dessert. My prep was tandoori salmon w basmati rice, Nepalis dal , fresh and just right hardness garlic butter naan , so heavenly, and broccoli sabzi. I like Indian food, a lot. So when one goes to a restaurant repetition is a must! I cannot say that about H.S.K., where the staff is so limited that one is forced to remain calm for over an hour to be fed and the food is different each visit. In total though multiple visits, I have had approx. 11 dishes and cannot say any are memorable at all or taste like Indian food at times. Dinner for six before our first concert since the pandemic began. Our host was very gracious and seated us immediately. Veggie momo plate for the table was very good - the only other time my wife and I had momo was a major disappointment, these restored our faith! The menu offers a very nice variety of choices. Five of us got various curry dishes with rice, all were really great! My lamb with spinach was presented a bit differently than I've had before, but I loved it. My wife's chicken tika masala (her usual) was among the best we've had. One of our sons got rack of lamb - wow! As good as everything else was, this dish was the highlight of the evening. The skin is just like my mom makes and while the stuffing is missing vegetables like chives or cabbage, the flavor is pretty much the same. I've not had a ton of Himalayan food, but my guess is this is not correct? If you didn't tell me this was Himalayan I'd say it was what I've had literally thousands of times at home or at restaurants. 3/10 3. Mixed Grill Tandoori: Not bad. Momos!!!! The name sounds so weird and cute at the same time, and the actual steamed dumpling were pretty darn good. Our party tried both the lamb and chicken, but if you like lamb, then this is a must try (for $12.95). Other dishes we tried were chicken tiki, tandoori tikka, and saag paneer (spinach with fried cheese). Everything was good, but the saag paneer stood out to me, because I don't usually like that dish, but I surprisingly loved it here. The cheese they used or the way they fried it, actually tasted good. The naan was also very good when fresh. It was soft, fluffy, and very tasty. I would say, go with the garlic cilantro if you like garlic and cilantro. Service here was good and I thought the prices were decent - not cheap but for the flavor and the food you get, I think it's reasonable. But like everyone recommended, momos!! Came in a group of over 15 and was glad they could seat us immediately on a Friday night for dinner. As soon as we were ordering there was confusion with how our table was gonna order the naan. I told the waiter I wanted garlic naan and he kept saying that the table would get some, but to me, I was thinking is it unlimited, or not, because I wanted my own whole garlic naan, I'm a big fan of it. But what happened was pretty sad, as seen on the photo. My first bite and 1 of 2 slices I got the whole night was a burnt garlic naan. I flipped it after that first bite and i saw the burnt evidence of overcooked naan I had to peel off the burnt parts just to enjoy what was left of the bread. Now for the Tandoori tikka, it was unfortunately dry chicken breast. I expected juiciness from the yogurt it's cooked with, but was very disappointed. Also, the chicken's edges also showed a rushed process of heating the chicken, so some parts also tasted burned. A friend of mine had the lamb saag, but after I tried a bit of his dish, I agreed with him how salty it was, almost like the tiktok challenge of putting salt onto a spoon as a prank when taste testing.
