We tried to get in downtown and I'm really glad that we didn't and we found this little hidden gem a short distance from all the busy hustle and bustle. It's a really nice restaurant set up in a very romantic and intimate fashion. The staff greeted us was super friendly and seated us right away. I forgot the server's name, but he was awesome. Funny and had quite a selection of the menu memorize. We started off with some good drinks and ended up with the salmon and steak. I have to say my wife and I were pleasantly surprised because the food was amazing. Not only was it tasty. It was very filling and cooked just right. If you want to get away from the hustle, bustle of downtown Napa, come to this place because they will treat you well and feed you well. I forgot to mention they also sent us a thank you note to let us know they appreciated us coming to the restaurant!!

Our server is grumpy... seem to take offense when we asked for cherries that were supposed to come with a mixed drink, literately knocked some salad into wife's lap when he was peppering her salad (didn't apologize), and turned very curt when I asked to sub onion rings for fries with my burger. Btw, no sub onion rings it only comes as an appetizer so I passed. Calamari was very tender and good flavor but cornmeal got to be too much. Salad fell flat on flavor. Mushroom Swiss burger was properly cooked and tasted good but came out under temp. Sole almandine was pretty darn good. Ambiance is along the neighborhood pizza/diner joint even with a bit of smokiness from the pizza oven. A lot of regulars sitting at bar. Parking lot was tight and junky. Hoping next time to have a better experience. I think it is worth a second chance if only in honor of the previous find memorie

We arrived about 30 minutes late, but the staff were incredibly kind and accommodating. We were seated right away and greeted warmly, which immediately made the experience feel relaxed despite us running behind. The one thing I knew I had to try here was their famous buttermilk fried chicken. Although I probably should have checked the menu more carefully beforehand, I was a little surprised to find out that Ad Hoc offers a fixed $69 menu, and everyone seated has to participate. I was even more surprised to learn that the famous fried chicken is actually an add-on to the set menu. The whole thing kind of felt like Hermès, where you have to buy all the other restaurant offerings first just to get access to the thing you really came for--the chicken. Lol. Regardless, we went with the set menu and added one order of the fried chicken, which was more than enough to share among four people. It ended up being a great lunch before a full afternoon of wine tastings. The meal started with crudités, and the vegetables were beautifully presented and very fresh. The dip leaned more like a hummus-ranch sauce, which was lighter and not as thick as I personally prefer, so this course was probably my least favorite. Still, it was a nice, refreshing way to start the meal. The main course was pork, which I initially wasn't too excited about because I was still mentally waiting for the chicken. But honestly, it was absolutely delicious. The meat was tender, flavorful, and cooked to literal perfection. It ended up being one of the best pork dishes I've ever had, and I would happily order it again. The fried chicken was, of course, amazing. The batter and skin were crispy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned, while the inside was juicy, moist, and cooked beautifully. It's genuinely impressive how they manage to make fried chicken taste this perfect and consistent. Dessert was peach cobbler, and even though I'm not usually much of a dessert person, I really enjoyed it. It was warm, comforting, and a sweet way to end the meal. Overall, Ad Hoc was such a fun and satisfying way to start our Napa weekend. While the fixed menu setup and chicken add-on were a little unexpected, the quality of the food made the experience worth it. The pork was a surprise standout, the chicken lived up to the hype, and the service was warm from start to finish. I'd definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a relaxed but elevated Napa meal--especially if you're going for that famous fried chicken.
