We were a tipsy party of four on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Having just left a wine tasting, we were famished and in need of substance. One of the guests in our party raved about the fried chicken here, so we opted for seats at the bar to order ala carte. We had the French onion dip and chips for appetizers, and it was absolutely divine. The dip was rich, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned, while the chips were exceptionally crisp without being greasy. It was one of those appetizers that disappeared from the table almost immediately. Of course, the star of the meal was the fried chicken. The coating was wonderfully crispy, and the meat inside was tender and juicy. Personally, I found the seasoning a touch mild, but a few dashes of hot sauce brought everything together beautifully. For context, my benchmark for fried chicken is Willie Mae's in New Orleans, which is high praise in itself. What really elevated the experience was the atmosphere and service. The bartenders were incredibly friendly, energetic, and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we sat down. Their enthusiasm added to the fun, relaxed vibe of the afternoon. Addendum is a to go place, you order at the counter and they prepare your meal, the menu is more limited than Ad Hoc. So this simple menu goes with picnic tables under the trees, corn hole on the lawn. We also could order drinks or ice cream sundaes. Many more families and groups here. Excellent on all accounts. I try not to come too often so that I appreciate it more. Prix Fixe comfort food is only for those really see the perfection in everyday cooking done right. Menu: Bouchon Bread, Chopped Salad, Pork Belly served over Orzo served with toasted cauliflower, 28 year old Gouda, Buttermilk Fried chicken, French Onion Dip Kettle Chips, Lemon Posset Shortbread crumble. Served Family style it is the perfect Napa Valley style meal after a long day in the sun. The Fried Chicken and Kettle Chips were extra. Service was on point and staff was friendly and attentive but not intruding. Aside, a woman and her family that did not make reservations was extremely insistent and hard on the host staff and delayed the seating for 10 minutes, but the staff never lost their cool. We had a dinner reservation here for a large group. Set menu was $69 but there are a couple of add on menu items that you can get a la carte and they are priced per plate (versus per person). 3.5 stars but rounding to 4 stars. Minimal signage, farm-to-table vibe, sleek interior, and a beautiful outdoor picnic/garden area that's open for lunch. I got a cocktail (forgot which) but was tasty. The staff was incredibly welcoming. The menu does come out family style for you to share, but they portion it perfectly that everyone has a good portion. Thoughts on the dishes: + Broccolini Salad - simple, clean taste. The sherry vinaigrette was light, and I really liked mushrooms palladin crisp although from reading the menu, I thought there would be actual mushrooms + French Onion Dip & Kettle chips - the onion dip was tasty but I expected some caramelized onions in there. Chips were tasty but debatable is homemade? For an add on of $24, a little pricey. + Crispy Pork Belly - these were very large but on the underwhelming side. Maybe just a preference on how to cook pork belly but these were pretty tough both meat and skin. A workout to cut and chew. I wish there was more verde sauce to soften it up and the sauteed greens on touch was a nice pairing. + Buttermilk Fried Chicken - the infamous chicken was surprising not on the set menu but an add on for $32. Too pricey in my opinion where the chicken was juicy but the crispy skin was a little tough too. It was not oily though and the Hoc hot sauce was a good amount of vinegar for me. + Manchego - a tasty, savory, firm piece of cheese for sure. I didn't love the pairing with bread (I feel like a soft cheese is better for that large piece of bread) so I ate the cheese and garlic confit alone, but I think a homemade jam would have made it so good. + Tiramisu - solid but not as coffee forward and soft/pillowy. It's my favorite thing there so I had to stop in and get a small bucket for my family. Delicious. If you go there for a sit down dinner, you won't be disappointed. They have lovely prix fixe meal. If anyone could run an eatery on reputation alone, it'd be Thomas Keller. Kind of a bummer when taste & quality don't factor into the equation after a chef reaches certain career heights. Follow the gravel path behind Ad Hoc to their picnic & backyard area & you'll find yourself at Addendum. Open for just a few hours on Fridays & Saturdays, the window to eat here is limited. Menu is short & sweet, & relatively affordable compared to other Napa Valley meals. We ordered one of everything on their savory menu, $22 per plate: -- 3 pieces of buttermilk fried chicken served with macaroni salad, cornbread, & honey butter: random mix of dark & white meat. Batter is thick though not crunchy, as if it's been sitting rather than fried fresh, & meat was devoid of any juiciness. -- pulled pork sandwich on a Hawaiian roll topped with pickles: extremely dry pulled pork with a bbq sauce that desperately needed some sweetness to counteract the acidity. -- fried chicken sandwich on a Hawaiian roll with slaw, aioli, & pickles: this is odd to admit, even odder to experience, but the slaw & aioli were the best parts of the sandwich, as it gave the chicken strips some actual interesting flavor. Been once to Ad Hoc for dinner and now officially been to Addendum for lunch, and enjoyed both times! While staying in Yountville with a couple friends, we booked a last minute dinner reservation after a day of wine tasting. It's only a tasting menu option, but it's reasonably priced for Napa. Smart casual atmosphere and great service. I remember everything being delicious and good portions, we even splurged on the caviar addition as well. Since we've been for dinner, it seems like the menu is focused around the fried chicken. That's not what they had when we there, so I have been wanting to come back to try it. Earlier this month, we finally got to give Addendum a try! I'm gluten free, so I was super excited to try out their GF fried chicken. We came right when they opened for lunch and there was already a line through their backyard. It was even more laid-back patio with picnic tables and items served to-go after ordering from a counter. I was hoping to try the GF chicken and bean salad, but unfortunately for me they weren't doing their seasonal salad when we came. Only other GF item they had was slaw, but I couldn't do eggs either so all I got was the fried chicken. Not sure why they even offer gluten free chicken if they can't offer anything else to go with it! Fortunately, the chicken was really good and I was satisfied with my three pieces. The rosemary and flaky sea salt topping was delicious. I definitely want to come back next time I'm in wine country during the summer, when they have their seasonal salad back! Have Ad Hoc and Addendum phoned it in??? I rarely update my reviews, but after several mediocre visits to both, I feel the need to. On our last visit to Ad Hoc, we were excited to learn Addendum would have a more extensive menu including BBQ items. So we arrived to find the usual suspects: fried chicken, fried chicken sandwich. The pulled pork sandwich was the only BBQ addition. They also offered caviar with potato chips. I ordered a small bucket of the famous fried chicken and asked if I could request dark meat. "No, but they give you a pretty good variety" is what I was told. We received 2 wing pieces and 5 white pieces. No thighs, no drumsticks. The white meat was dry and under-seasoned. Maybe it wasn't brined long enough? The exterior was exceptionally thick and bread-y this visit too. We also got one seasonal green bean salad and the macaroni salad which were maybe half full at best. A joke for $8 each! There were about three bites worth of the green bean salad. read more

I have been to Ad hoc restaurant before and it was great, never tried the addendum and I read so many good reviews about their fried chicken. So I was really looking forward to give a try. Arrived the place on a weekend and found that the place is not currently open. But we could order at the restaurant as take out (without the usual add-on and for an extra charge). We went ahead and ordered a small bucket. The order didn't take too long and as we were waiting, we saw a few other people came by and check out the fried chickens just like us (popular fried chicken spot indeed) Our small bucket came with 7 mix pieces. They were crispy and crunchy but I didn't get the " wow " feeling. They do seem to be less greasy than other fried chickens I had, but good or bad, that is really subjective. The buttermilk fried chicken was perfection, and the side of red pepper polenta paired so well with it. We added on lobster mac and cheese and WOW was it incredible, if only i could recreate it at home. The warm chocolate brownie was unlike any other brownie i've had, the contrasting textures with the caramelia pearls were just to die for. It's basically a full garden with plenty of picnic table seating and grass space. I loved that they had corn hole available to keep kids occupied. We ordered the 3 piece chicken combo and the pulled pork sandwich. The sandwich was fully loaded. The pork was very tender and juicy. A little messy to eat but delicious. I dream of their chicken every summer season. It's a go-to spot for lunch before you head off to Napa Valley or in between tasting rooms in Yountville. This season (2023), they have such an efficient process of the ordering shack and the pick up shack. There are plenty of picnic tables and it's community style, so if you see a small group at one end of the table, snag the opposite end of the table - don't be shy. They pack all the food as to-go. There is a small set up of napkins, wet wipes, plates, and condiments to create a picnic set up if you are eating on site or somewhere else. The menu is small but if you know you know, you are probably coming here for the chicken anyway. For drinks there are basic soda options, ice tea flavors and a small option for beer and wines. We always order a large bucket so we have extra pieces for left overs to take home. It reheats well in a toaster oven or air fryer. Located behind Ad Hoc but there is usually decent amount of street parking since it's further away from Bouchon. read more

Nothing else matters. A bucket of chicken, which was about 60 bucks and had like over 10 pieces is definitely good and filling for at least four people. At 15 bucks pop for delicious high-quality chicken and beat it. it was so juicy crunchy flavorful nice little salt and rosemary on top. How did they do it. Today's chicken felt a little greasy however they're greasy is still delicious. Great venue for nice. Picnic area had some shade. Recommend the spot and will be back hopefully before the season ends. We waited 6 years to get back to Napa. We were very excited to try Adhoc. If you're expecting to try their Fried Chicken it's not always on the menu it's not even offered as an Add-on at your advanced notice request. I was told no even when we went in the night before to request it for our dinner as an add on. I messaged the restaurant on instagram we went into the restaurant the night before. I emailed them and no response. The menu changes daily so there's no guarantee the day you make reservations that you will even get the opportunity to try it. The ambiance is casual which we loved and the food comes out family style even better! Our menu for the day that we could get reservations for, was Roasted chicken. We all agreed roasted chicken is not something any of us would typically order at a high end restaurant for dinner. So we won't so much review the Roasted Chicken, but i will say it was super tender . You get salad which the night we did was with an avacado dressing. We could have had more of the salad for the table it was that good. The sides come for the table you get 2 sides plus the salad . This night the offer was orzo which was tasty and roasted cauliflower (spicy) the night we went Sunday 6:45 May 12th for dinner had optional extra add ons which were $60.00 per add- on for the table. We ordered the truffle risotto with scallops there were 4 of us and only 3 scallops, which was not recognized by wait staff that we were a table of 4, nor was that communicated to us that there are only 3 scallops (awkward) We could have made a meal of that in itself the truffle was such a fragrant subtle taste (might I add truffle isn't my favorite) but this was an exceptional. The scallops ( 3 ) on top of the risotto had an exceptional caramelization and flavor which is what you'd expect scallops to have, but do not typically get. The shrimp add on for the table ($60) was well worth adding on you do get 4 of those. They were huge the coloring and the flavor was so appealing to the eyes and taste buds they did not disappoint. You do get a cheese tray After dinner and before dessert, Dessert was ice cream Sunday. It's a pre set menu so your only extra add-on options are the sides that they offer for that evening. For us Fried Chicken is the star of their show and is what is always reviewed on food shows. So people come from all over to get this experience, it's something we never knew going here that it's not a regular option. We felt per our request if we wanted to pay for fried chicken as an add on that Adhoc should have made that happen. ( Mind you Fried Chicken was offered for lunch that day so this wasn't an impossible request) and you don't know that when you make the reservation so far in advance if you will get to order it that day of your reservation. We may never fly 3000 miles to get back to Napa and try Adhoc and Adhoc makes no apologies for that. Nor for not accommodating a patrons request and for not responding to any messages. So If the experience is what you want and good food, and if not getting to try the Fried Chicken is not an issue for you, then I'd say go! read more

It's served on a Bouchon bakery roll with coleslaw, bread & butter pickles, tangy mayo and a side of kettle chips. The chicken sandwich was crispy and had a good crunch to it. It was great to be able to try Thomas Keller's take on fried chicken. I got my food with a Hibiscus Lemonade $7. My brother-in-law had the buttermilk fried chicken and he says it's the best chicken he has ever had. There are several picnic benches outside, it was a super hot day when we went and we tried to hurry eating our food. Not Addendum's fault, but there was a swarm of bees in the picnic area. It was a bummer too since that area was the only part with shade. I've had this place on my radar for months (waiting for it to come out of hibernation!) as a cute and budget-friendly introduction to Thomas Keller's restaurant group, but my expectations were sadly too high and unmet when I finally was able to make it during a holiday. We lined up right at opening and there was a line ~10-15 individuals deep, but it moved quickly. The menu was a bit challenging to see from afar (although very aesthetic and handwritten, and it was sweet to enjoy the garden ambiance (picnic benches, flowers in full bloom, a little side garden) as we waited. Since we came for the chicken, we got a pail of fried chicken, and also decided to try the lobster roll special. After a wait, we received both and dug in with anticipation. The fried chicken was crispy and not dry, but overall the chicken itself was not so flavorful. It also felt a little too wholesome without any of the comforting grease that I think of when I think fried chicken - kind of like whole wheat bran crust on chicken breast. There were a few sprigs of herbs and generous salt crystals on the chicken but after one piece, the I grew a bit tired of the flavor and added ketchup for a pop to subsequent pieces. We wondered if we'd gotten a plate with mac salad and cornbread if that would have helped with some variety, but didn't think that either of those carbs would add the acid needed to cut and deepen the existing flavor of the fried chicken. We also found the lobster roll to be a bit bland and simple in flavors, too. There was a generous amount of well-shelled and cooked lobster, but even the mayo seemed underseasoned and there wasn't much dimension to the dish - a few pickled onions, otherwise just the lobster mix and a toasted bun. I had high hopes for Addendum but just didn't find the foods to be very flavorful and could not keep eating the same flavors. As delicious as it is, it's not my absolute favorite fried chicken in the world--the batter is a little thick and inconsistent on some pieces. I did like the rosemary and flaky salt on top though! I first ate a small breast piece and it was a little dry (as breast pieces typically are)... and then I tried a small thigh and WOW, it was so juicy!! Pick-up was super easy. I would definitely suggest to pre-order your bucket and to get to the picnic area early! It may be hard to find a seat in the shade (especially in the spring + summer) if you go too late. read more

Some tasty, bougie fried chicken that goes great with a wine buzz! My friends and I preordered a bucket of buttermilk fried chicken for pick up. This place gets packed but luckily it didn't take too long to get the food. It survived the drive still hot and crispy! It definitely hit the spot. Basically a Garden of Eden... but better, because this garden has Fried Chicken instead of fruit. Tucked behind "ad hoc," is a gravel path that leads into "addendum" -- admittedly thought it was going to be more hype than anything given the attributions, location, and the ubiquitous category it specialized in... but it turned out to be the most impressively delicious fried chicken ever. Frankly I didn't know fried chicken could be so good -- it wasn't greasy, the inside which was juicy and extremely balanced and seasoned through-and-through, the outside was perfectly crunchy with a good consistency, and the finishing touches of salt and rosemary. The side items faded into the background, including the understandably pricey added-on caviar item that didn't really add to the experience headlined by the fried chicken... although the champagne (that comes with the caviar) did work well with fried chicken. Deceivingly casual, besides the location, the entire no frills service format involving ordering out of one shack, picking up at another (bigger) shack, and self seating at basic picnic tables... great for any kind of party whether single travelers to families. read more

Kitchen of Thomas Keller, where you get close to French laundry. Had this about 2 years ago and though it was a bougie kfc, before trying it, thinking who pays 50-60 dollars for done fried chicken. Well I guess I'm one of those people and was it worth it! You can order online 48-24 hours before. Select the day and time or you can order when you arrive. I can't remember how many princes I order but it comes with chicken wings, thighs and breast. The batter is crunchy and season with salt and thyme and rosemary on the outside. The chicken on the instead is not dry but perfectly moist. Once you get your bucket of chicken you can find a bench and table to eat there or walk across the street to a Parker and have a picnic. Note they do give you plates and utensils. They have a parking lot or you can park on the street. read more

One of those memorable experiences that you have been waiting as you heard so much about it from your family, but it fell way short. Decided to order our bucket of fried chicken when in the region during our anniversary weekend. Hubby had been there with our daughter before (1+ year ago) and absolutely loved it (he is a big foodie and I trust his judgement). - there is no sign at Addendum that your meal is really being delivered from the back door of Ad Hoc. - once we knew, the meal was ready and we got it right away. - Asked why we couldn't order sides on the website and wanted to order while there, they said they didn't have any sides to serve that day (Saturday being a busy day you would think they would plan for!!) - took the fried chicken to the picnic tables in the addendum area and there was no utensils, napkins,...) - Chicken lacked taste and most pieces were too dry compared to what my husband had tried the first time. Bottom line, not a Thomas Keller quality of meal nor service we expected... won't be back to this one. What a shame!! read more
