(Kari's Rating 9.9/10) Came for lunar new year with a friend, came right about 6 PM and got seated right away. Ordered two orders of the pork Xiaoling bao. This has to be my absolute favorite place for soup dumplings, I would take this place over your triple crown, and QXY. The trick is eating these soup dumplings before the bottoms give out and the soup explodes as you have to eat them a little bit fast.

Hing Kee is definitely worth a stop, but just know you might have a bit of a wait. The wait was longer than we would've liked, but the restaurant isn't that big, so I totally understand how it can back up during busy times. Once we were seated, the restaurant was standard looking and clean. The food made up for it. The egg rolls were super fresh, hot, and perfectly seasoned with a great crunch. The General Tso chicken was the star though, really flavorful with a nice balance of sweet and heat, and there was this bright hit of orange zest that made the whole dish stand out. Overall, great food and I'd come back, I'd just plan ahead and expect a wait.

Hing Kee has a huuuuuge menu, but I only wanted dumplings because I wanted to eat at other places too. Ordered the pork xiao long bao and the shrimp & pork dumplings in szechuan chili oil. Didn't get much of that soupy goodness with the XLB because each one was unfortunately leaking already before I even touched them. So all in all, the dumplings were good, but were they amazing? No. I was disappointed, but still liked the dumplings even though there was no soup in them. Service was whatever and the table we were sat at was a bit dirty. The Vietnamese coffee was awful too. I figured it wouldn't be good as I wouldn't order something Vietnamese at a Chinese place, but husband really wanted coffee. Don't order it haha

Everything comes with onion says server, but menu does say comes with onions. You get more onions on this food than meat. Never knew rice comes with onions didn't know steak comes with onions. Orange chicken didn't comes with onions chicken nuggets didn't come with onions. Didn't get a plate refund or fixed for this mistake. Pictures will say everything. There's lettuce not onions on everything. Can you fix this problem for everyone. Again don't say everything has onions if not everything has onions

This place needs to be more popular!! The food is heavenly! The food was so good, I didn't take pics of everything cuz I got really busy eating The flavors were dancing in my mouth! I had a couple of vegetarian items- mapo tofu and friend eggplants. My family had a few chicken dishes and each one loved it all. The table next to us got some fried rice and the aroma made me hungry immediately after finishing my dinner. I know what I'm getting next time. This restaurant is in the middle of China Town, so parking is always a challenge, but put in the effort and get here cuz it's worth it.

This restaurant is located in Chinatown. It is a very small establishment, seating is limited. We sat down & placed our order pretty quickly. We ordered the chicken dumplings and combination fried rice. I also got a brown rice, green tea. The combination fried rice came out first it wasn't fresh. It was served to us a bit lukewarm. Decent size dish, it can serve up to two people. The rice was very mid in flavor. It lacked the traditional fried rice taste. We requested chili oil to savor our food. The chili oil added a good heat to it. The chicken dumplings were excellent. You do get quite a bit. Me and my partner shared them and had a few left over to take home. My brown rice tea was excellent nice and light green tea flavor with a nutty rice undertone. The cleanliness of the outside area where we all eat at was pretty up to par. However, the bathrooms were disgusting as soon as you walk back there before even entering the bathroom it smells atrocious. I walked into the women's restroom. It was a pigsty. I saw something floating above the door doorway and it was a roach caught in a spiderweb. It doesn't even feel safe to wash your hands in there it is that dirty. They need to do something about that because that is a representation of how they are treating their kitchen back there because it is right next to the kitchen. I did feel some kind of way after eating and seeing that but Hopefully they get their bathroom together other than that I did enjoy my experience here. I might come back because they have so many great options on their menu and I'm interested in trying a few other things. The service was good. They accommodated us intended to all of our needs.

Braised Beef Traditional Hand-Pulled Noodle Soup

If you're craving comforting, old school Chinese flavors in Chicago's Chinatown, Hing Kee is a must-visit. The food feels deeply rooted in tradition simple, hearty, and made to be enjoyed slowly. Shanghai Soup Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) These are the star. The wrappers are thin yet sturdy, holding a generous amount of rich, savory broth. One bite and the soup bursts out, followed by well seasoned pork that's juicy and fragrant. They're balanced, not overly greasy, and taste exactly how soup dumplings should warm, delicate, and satisfying. Braised Beef Hand Pulled Noodles This bowl is pure comfort. The hand pulled noodles have a great chewy texture, and the braised beef is tender with deep, slow-cooked flavor. The broth is aromatic and savory without being overpowering, making it the kind of dish you want on a cold day or honestly, any day. Shrimp, Pork & Mushroom Hand Pulled Noodles Light yet flavorful, this noodle dish highlights clean, authentic tastes. The shrimp are fresh, the pork adds richness, and the mushrooms bring an earthy depth. Everything comes together beautifully with the springy hand pulled noodles, making it a great option if you want something comforting but not too heavy. Overall, Hing Kee delivers genuinely authentic Chinese cuisine with a focus on handmade noodles and classic flavors. No frills, no shortcuts just honest food that reminds you why Chinatown spots like this have stood the test of time. If you appreciate traditional cooking and comforting bowls of noodles, this place is absolutely worth a visit.

    Pork xiao long bao

I wanted soup dumplings while in Chicago and found this spot while searching online. Nate and I walked in around 8 pm on a weekday and were able to get a table right away. The menu is huge, but we were focused - we got an order of pork xiao long bao and shrimp toast. Service is no frills and efficient. The dumplings came out steaming hot and they were full of pork. A few did stick to the basket and ripped, so that was a little sad, but they were flavorful and tasty. I loved the shrimp toast - it was crispy and savory, and covered in sesame seeds. I would definitely come back for more soup dumplings and other dishes. The portions for main items looked huge, and it would be a great place for groups.

Yeah, generally when I'm in town, I do like to come over here and visit. I'm a creature of habit and I know there's other places to try in Chinatown but I really come here for about three or four dishes. Today was no exception. I opted for the egg rolls and the Chinese broccoli and beef lo mein with the soft noodle. It was a quiet Friday afternoon due to the severe weather so it was nice not to have to wait. Service was friendly and helpful. It would've been a great day for any of the noodle soup bowls. Both the eggroll and broccoli beef noodle dish were excellent. I ended up taking the leftovers home. I will definitely come back when I visit. Known for their soup dumplings - I did not have them this time, but they are really good as are of the scallion pancakes.

Food: Szechwan Style Stir Fried String Beans - your standard string bean dish and how you'd imagine it to taste. wasn't mind blowing but still good and good shareable portion. Xiao Long Bao Pork Soup Dumplings - soupy and flavorful! came out just how like my soup dumplings to be. i love to eat this with chili oil or vinegar! Xiao Long Bao Chicken Soup Dumplings - yummy if you prefer chicken as your protein and it's also laid on a bed of cabbage. soupy and flavorful as well! Stir Fried Soy Sauce Flat Noodles - flat noodles are on a more soft side and the beef isn't too salty (a problem i ran into at some other places serving the same dish) loved the veggies with this as well. also a good shareable portion Service: decent service here. very straightforward! Ambiance: cozy and causal chinese restaurant vibes in the middle of china town! nice restaurant to stop and eat with others.

Great service, not so great soup dumplings. I really wanted to like the xiao long bao here, but sadly every single one of them came broken at the bottom so the soup leaked out before I could even taste it. We asked the waitress if we could get another batch in case this was a faulty one. Same issue with the next one. Unfortunately I can't recommend their soup dumplings. If you go, try some of their other dishes! -AD

Taking a star off because the bathroom is kind of gross and the hallway to wait for an open bathroom is stinky sometimes. The food however is SO GOOD. I love the handmade noodles, the last time I went I got the wontons with handmade noodles..big bowl and I finished! The iced HK Milk tea is good too! Service is good, it's quick. Sometimes there's a wait but if you go early enough you might get seated pretty quick. The soup dumplings are also SOO GOOD.

Quick. Delicious and no non-sense. :) their soup dumplings were great. And Chinese broccoli in garlic sauce, salt and pepper tofu and eggplant were crispy and good. Whenever we go to this tournament in the city this is our go to spot.

    Is it BYOB?

I'm pretty sure it is, there is a liquor store in the strip across from there.

Do they have a variety of soup dumplings or just crab with pork? Was hoping for at least just pork.

Yes, they do have different ones. The traditional one is pork only.

We went with the whipped rice pudding but had it without peanuts because I'm allergic. We didn't really enjoy it much. It was kind of bland and I'm guessing it might be because we omitted the nuts. 5 stars based on Bahn mi, cha gio and iced coffee I ordered today…read more I must have been part of an early crowd. When I arrived, there was only one other table dining, which made it GREAT for me. It's a decent size hall with 10+ table arrangements, making it pretty great for a group to enjoy their lunch. It also featured a couple of kiosks for ordering, which I thought was a bit easy to miss, since it was tucked away in the left corner when you walked in. It looked like there was also a cashier available to take orders, if you miss the kiosks. I've seen places where they simply do not have anyone at the register to take orders, but that wasn't the case for Lotus. Before deciding to visit them today, I had an impression that their menu choices were very limited compared to other Vietnamese restaurants I was used to. I'm certainly not complaining, since I'm usually a huge fan of select "specialty" approach in restaurants. That's why I decided to order one of their Bahn mi, where I normally would have chosen pho for my first visit. And it didn't disappoint. First off, the size of the sandwich was good. I've had it where they charged a buck or two less, but they weren't big enough to be a full "lunch" portion. Lotus' size, I thought was decent. I had ordered one of their cha gios just in case the sandwich failed to fill me, but I think I would have been okay without it. Cha gio was super good tho! Oh, and the iced V-coffee was good, too. Typically, they'll bring out the coffee before your meal is ready, probably because they're ready-made in the morning and all you'd need to do is pour them over ice. I of course, have known legitimate mom n' pop places, where they'll actually bring out coffee as it's brewing in Phin (stainless steel coffee filter) and a glass of ice with condensed milk, so you can wait for the coffee to finish brewing and pour yourself one, which is what I *always* prefer. Not here, but no big deal. You can usually tell how good the food is going to be by trying their iced coffee. Even though V-coffee isn't known for using "incredible" beans, the balance of the strength of coffee and condensed milk *does* make a big difference in your experience. I felt this place had it correct! I'll definitely come back myself and even bring coworkers or my family to have their Bahn mi again. What I'm not sure about is whether I want to try their pho or bun. First, they don't offer too many variations, so I'm stuck choosing from just a few. (For example, I usually go for "brisket-only" or a combo of brisket and rare steak, but they didn't seem to have those options. Granted, it's possible they'll make it happen if I asked) Secondly, I think they're a couple bucks more expensive than what I would like to pay for a bowl of pho. We'll see.

I've liked what I've tried here including their bun bowls and most recently, I got the rice paper salad. It's not my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the city (but in fairness, there's so much good Vietnamese food) but I'd go back again when I'm in the area and want a meal. The vibes have wedding banquet hall energy and the staff has always been good vibes.

Spring rolls and Phở, of course, but also trying some of the other items on the menu. (I'm not Vietnamese, so I won't try to talk about authentic vs inauthentic). The restaurant brags about its phở broth and it's very good, very meaty and balanced. There are also large platter options (lettuce wraps, for example) and hot pot options. I didn't try the hot pot, but the group one table over had it. Speaking of the other group, so many varied entrees came out of the kitchen - it was cool to see more than just phở. The waitstaff is quick... almost to the point of impatient! But never problematic. Be aware that dishes fly out of the kitchen as they are ready. One bowl might come out way before the others. An appetizer might come out last. It just whatever is ready (it appears). Also, their takeout game is strong, judging by the amount of trays ready to go and people coming in to carry-out. It's a little far for me to do takeout, but still nice to see.
