If I could give this place a Zero I totally would. Wouldn't recommend to stop by here, Really don't! unless you want to be disappointed. When I first came in with my partner we got seated pretty quickly. Then shortly after two menus got dropped off by a female waitress with glasses, unfortunately she didn't feel the need to present her self or even greet us. (Therefore I didn't get her name) Then moments later a male came over and took our order. he at least did the bare minimum and helped us place our order. After that some of our dishes were dropped off by the same rude female. She would place the dishes almost on the edge of the table and quickly run off. By the time we ate most of our food we were still missing our two canned sodas and some soup dumplings. The horrible service obviously ruined our dinner so once she did decide to finally stop by and drop off the soup dumplings I told her she could take it back. I told her she didn't even say hello to us and didn't even bring us our drinks. She said nothing to me and walked back to someone else who then brought us the bill. They apologized and still tried to charge us our drinks (which we never received) I thought maybe the girl with the glass was just shy or didn't speak English and maybe that's why she didn't speak to us but she was speaking to other customers in the restaurant. I don't like to assume people are just rude. But in case it was clear we were not welcomed there. I have never experienced such hostility in a restaurant before. read more

There were 7 of us an we were able to get a seat within 30 minutes on a busy evening! The hostess was helpful and the service during the entire evening was amazing despite them being very busy! We had a few vegetarians with us and overall, the food was tasty, they have a lot of variety of options and really cool non alcoholic beverages. You can BYOB! I'm between 3 and 4 for this :( Hing Kee used to be one of my favorites, but it just feels so different than what it was in the past. Gone are the days of the man pulling noodles in the window, but I suppose there's a new sushi bar. That being said, it's still solid food and at great prices (for today's economy). Service is hit-or-miss (as seen in other reviews), as the workers we had didn't really seem to want to be there. For example, when we got our food, the lady muttered the wrong dish name to us, and we accidentally assigned the wrong orders within our party. Food quality is still good but not as great. As seen in the photo, most of the meat I got was fat - and the parts that weren't fat were really overcooked so it was very tough. The broth for the spicy garlic beef soup was not bad but was imbalanced in a way I can't really describe. So not bad but enough to be like, this could be so much better, if that makes sense. The XLB is pretty good - some of them stuck to the lettuce so they leaked out prematurely but overall, a great choice for any order. Overall, Hing Kee is still a safe go-to, but we're going to try somewhere new on our next visit. read more

Hing Kee hosts an awesome annual lunar new year event with fun activities and a plethora of food for guests. I was lucky to attend this year and try a lot of their menu at a great price! The restaurant was packed and very festive for the holiday- there was even a lion dance group who performed wonderfully in the restaurant! Staff and hosts were very welcoming and gave a small presentation about the history of lunar new year. The menu was served family style and included fried egg rolls, sweet corn & seafood soup, and veggie/pork steamed dumplings. The pork dumplings were definitely my favorite! The egg rolls were massive and piping hot with an interesting spice that I did not expect. I did find the soup to be a bit bland, however. For the entrees, we were served heaping plates of dry chili chicken, salt & pepper fish filet, honey walnut shrimp, beef with string beans, bok choy in garlic sauce, chow mein noodles, and shrimp/pork fried rice. Although deep fried, the salt & pepper fish was incredibly crispy, light and fresh- I highly recommend this dish! I also really enjoyed the honey walnut shrimp, which was crispy and not too heavy on the sweet sauce. The beef entree was super tender with an excellent flavor, complemented well by the perfectly crunchy string beans. The dry chili chicken was well cooked but not at all spicy, and I found myself wishing for the signature numbing spice. The chow mein and fried rice were also well cooked but a bit forgettable compared to the other entrees. Dessert was a dish of ultra soft glutinous rice balls filled with sesame and served in a warm ginger soup. This may have been my favorite dish of the night! It was warm, comforting, and a perfect light end to the meal. I had a great experience at Hing Kee and will definitely return, especially to try the xiao long bao! read more

Staff is typical of authentic Chinese restaurants, it's chaotic, hasty and antisocial. People don't eat at these places for the service experience, they show up for the good food. Xiao long bao - 8 pieces for $11, these were delicious paired with the black vinegar and some hot chili oil. Shrimp wonton with hand pulled noodles - this was so good! Always go with hand pulled noodles. Great texture and broth was light. For dessert, we got the fresh fruit boba mango and passion fruit. The Boba was so fresh and soft! Anyway check em out! I am okay with this though, but it's worth noting. The food here is fabulous. My two favorites are the pork Soup Dumplings which are handmade and burst with each bite. The next is my go-to entree here, the Dry Chicken Chili. I've had this at over 10 Chinese restaurants and this one is without a doubt my favorite. The skin is thick on top and too thin on the bottom, so the dumplings kept breaking and spilling the soup. But the filling tasted good, and all the food came out quickly. Service was a bit shaky. They were not rude, but they were not very attentive either. Our waiter didn't offer us any water until we were done eating. In this plaza, there are several restaurants and there's a line for this place depending on when you arrive - especially during dinner time when there are large parties. The place is older so it's a little run down but don't be too discouraged to try the food. The xiao long bao was really tasty and we shared it between four people. I've been coming here for years, but this last visit was a huge disappointment. The food quality has drastically decreased. The soup dumplings, which we used to love, were just gross--the skin was a weird color and so fragile that all the soup spilled out as soon as I picked them up. Not only that, but the filling tasted off and they smelled sour. ​When I pointed out they gave me the wrong noodles for my Spicy Chicken Handful Noodles, they did offer to fix it, but the new noodles were still not the kind I had originally ordered. To make it worse, I paid for extra noodles but there were barely any in my bowl. When I pointed this out, they just said, "that's just how it is" and still charged me. ​I strongly do not recommend this restaurant and definitely won't be returning. read more

Delicious little spot in Chicago Chinatown! My girlfriend and I came here for a quick meal when we were visiting Chicago. We specifically wanted some soup dumplings and egg tofu. The tofu was pretty perfect - it had a nice crispy layer and hot soft tofu on the inside. It also had just the right level of salt and pepper. The fried rice we got was likewise very solid. The only thing we found slightly lacking were the soup dumplings. They were smaller than we are used to and the soup wasn't as flavorful as we're used to either. Not bad at all but just doughier and blander than expected. Still a nice meal overall. Service was great and super fast, and they had a good system for tracking who came in first / was waiting for seats so we didn't have to hang around too long.
