I am switching vets and want to warn other pet owners about the lack of care, accountability, and professionalism at this office. After my dog, Lincoln, was discharged from the ICU at an emergency hospital, no one from this practice ever checked in to see how he was doing. Zero follow-up or concern after a critical illness. Lincoln now requires a special prescription diet. When I asked for a prescription to purchase it elsewhere, I was told it would take several days simply because I wasn't buying directly from them. To avoid delays, I bought cans from the office -- only to discover they gave me the wrong food entirely. When I returned to fix their mistake, they didn't have the correct food and told me my options were to wait to see the doctor or leave empty-handed, then drive elsewhere to get it. Completely unreasonable for a working parent. What made this unacceptable was Olivia at the front desk, who gave me the wrong food and then blamed me, claiming I asked for that flavor (I did not). When that didn't hold, she changed her story and said my dog had eaten it before -- ignoring the fact that he is now on special prescription food because of a serious illness. She was rude, dismissive, and dishonest. The office manager was no help and suggested I "switch vets" since I wasn't happy -- which I absolutely am. This practice lacks compassion, ownership, and basic professionalism. I would not trust them with a pet recovering from serious illness. read more

The sad time arrived when my husband and I had to make the unbearable decision that our dog's time with us had to come to an end. His quality of life suddenly went downhill and it would have been unfair to let things progress any further than they had. We were so grateful for every moment of the 15 and 1/2 years we had with our dog. In large measure, his longevity had not only to do with his good genes and the excellent care we took of him but also because of the careful and caring ministrations over the years of his veteranarian, Dr. Charles Waters. At this time of sadness we of course turned to Dr. Waters who has been Scout's one and only doctor since we brought him home. Dr. Waters readily agreed to perform the euthanasia at our home where Scout would be most comfortable and at ease. On the appointed day Dr. Waters arrived with his assistant who likewise has known Scout for years. They were kind and gentle with Scout and with us and in a dignified, pain-free and very quick moment Scout passed away in our arms. We opted for a private cremation which means the ashes we received yesterday were just those of our dog and not a compilation of a number of animals cremated together. This option of course is pricier in terms of money, but in our opinion it was the only option because it's in fact priceless. We are overcome with sadness and with missing the very presence of our dog but remain grateful for our years of great memories. As well, we can't say enough about the wonderful and compassionate care we've all received from Dr. Waters and his top-notch staff over the years. read more

Terrible experience with new vet. Dr. Saks We have been going here with all of our animals since 1995. Our dog was due for 2 vaccines and we wanted to be educated or at least informed on them. He was due for another in 1 month we asked if we could come back in a month and she told us he was getting all 3 today or we could GET OUT! If it was my dog i would have walked out then and there but i was there for my mom. I was put in such an uncomfortable and compassionless position by this doctor. Never have i experience anything like it. Dr. Waters saved one of my dogs life. Hingham animal clinic has always been our go to. They have never ever done wrong by us. Our first visit was fine. Our second was rushed, chaotic and illogical. I spent the whole time helping the Vet understand that the tests she was suggesting didn't make any sense-- we'd either already had them done, or they didn't match up with her symptoms. She admitted she'd only briefly looked over our most recent notes before seeing us. I reached out after saying my dog was still vomiting and I needed the help I'd come seeking but didn't receive. It took 11 days to get a response from the manager! A manager thinking it's acceptable to take 11 days to get back to you while your pet is vomiting. We loved Dr. Waters but have felt the new vets aren't compassionate and make you feel guilty at times if you don't agree with their course of action. One vet said, "we have a conscience here" when I asked not to have a removed cyst biopsied since my dog is 11 and if she had cancer we wouldn't do a cancer treatment. VCA Roberts in Hanover and VCA in Weymouth will work with you and come up with a treatment plan that everyone is comfortable with. read more

MY ANIMAL WAS DYING AND THEY DID NOT HELP. This animal clinic has gone down hill fast since Dr. W has retired. Brought my dog in for a senior check. They DID NOT check his eyes, temperature, or legs. Just suggested he needed blood work ($300) to know exactly what was going on. I asked if there were any signs he needed it she said no he is just an old pup. My dog needed to be put to sleep three days later. The next part is why I am writing a review. THIS CLINIC IS SUPPOSED TO STAY OPEN WITH A VET WHEN THE HOURS SAY. I called to put my dog to sleep at his vet so he wouldn't get poked and prodded at the VCA (which is routine for when they haven't seen an animal before) HINGHAM ANIMAL CLINIC would not put my poor dying dog to sleep because it was 11 am on a sunny Saturday because the vet decided to leave. THEY CLOSE AT 1 PM. Sure leave, but have a vet on call. They said they wouldn't call the vet because they left. So I had to watch my dog be poked and then be charged an emergency visit of $300 because they had to do an "entry level exam" I will never bring another animal here. I have brought my dogs here for 10 years and on top of other things. This was my last straw. I have the receipt and phone call on recording to prove these facts. read more

Horrific experience the last time I called to schedule an emergency appointment. The person who I spoke with sounded annoyed by my call, was brusk & demonstrated zero compassion when I told her that my cat was fine one moment and the next she lost her balance initially and then lost the ability to use her back legs. In response to my telling her my cat was in pain and appeared to be dying I was rudely told that that I would have to take her to VCA in South Weymouth. Sadly my feline constant companion for over 20 years died 25 minutes later. We have been taking our animals to HVC for over 20 years and have always impressed by their professionalism & compassion - until my last experience. I would not recommend Hingham Animal Clinic to anyone who cares about their pet. Since Dr. Waters left his full-time role, the place has gone to crap. My wife brought our beloved dog to the clinic to have a growth looked at. The vet scheduled an appointment to have the growth removed and said she would perform a teeth cleaning while our dog was under anastesia. When my wife arrived to pick up our pet, the growth was still there and 29 teeth were pulled. The vet claimed no responsibility for their actions and even put the blame on us for signing the pre-op paperwork that was very unclear. It seems that Hingham Animal Clinic is here just to turn a profit. So if you care for your pet, find another vet. read more

I've had very positive experiences with Hingham Animal Clinic. I've found the receptionists to be professional, friendly, knowledgeable about products (flea preventative), and kind. When dealing with our 2 cats and 1 Jack Russell Terrier, the vet technicians have been compassionate, able, and friendly. One woman is called the cat whisperer and I saw why when she handled our blind, nervous cat. Our kitty was relaxed and soothed in this tech's hold. Our dog actually gets excited and happy to come to HAC. She looks forward to getting inside to see her buddies. Another reviewer said she had to wait a long time. I've also had to wait for as long as 45 minutes for my appointment. However, when I was seen I didn't feel rushed at all. I thought Dr. Sacks gave me all her attention and listened carefully to me. Other times, I've been late, and once I got the time of my appointment completely wrong but the clinic still made time to see me. Dr. Sacks and Dr. Dana are very knowledgeable and experienced. I trust them to know what's best for our animals. HAC offers first rate care and products for very reasonable prices. They've renovated their space within the last few years and though it's not huge inside, it's big enough. There's a nice bathroom for clients. I highly recommend this veterinary practice. I've lived in the area for 20 years and I've taken my cats & dogs to most of the vets from Hanover to Weymouth and all in between. This practice is the one we trust the most. read more

The only reason they are getting two stars is I like Dr. Waters tremendously. As for the rest of the clinic, I'd give them one star or less. Every time I need a prescription refilled it takes an excessive amount of time. The excuse is always the same, short staffing. Sometimes it takes more than a week to get a refill approved. Messages are misplaced. Call backs never happen. Very unprofessional. If I could get my pet seen by Dr. Waters and go elsewhere for everything else, I would. Again, I have to skip doses for my cat's medication because of the slow response from the clinic even though I had the refill request submitted days ago and have already called 3 days in a row explaining the need for a quick approval. read more

I have been bringing my cats here for over 25 yrs and was usually seen by Dr Waters. He was always so kind, efficient, soft spoken, and trustworthy. Today the clinic looks and feels like a factory. Always overcrowded and rushed. Receptionists always seem overworked, confused, and rude. I now have a winter home in California and trying to get my cats prescriptions transferred, on a timely basis, is nearly impossible. I usually start calling into the clinic 2 weeks before the prescriptions need refills as the communication is intolerable. I have now returned to Hingham and on Tuesday, I called for a new prescription to be called into the pharmacy and was given a run around for 4 days. When I finally got the RX signed by a Vet, I was told I needed to physically pick it up and deliver it to the drug store. When asked why it couldn't be faxed to the store I was told "this is what I was told to do". Really? Are you that lazy or that overworked that in the middle of a pandemic you need to tell people to leave their house, pickup the RX, and physically bring it to the drug store? I am happy to say I will not be dealing with this inefficient, rude, and overpriced clinic anymore. It will probably take weeks to get my records transferred to my new vet but I will have my sanity back. read more

Absolutely the worst. To get anything done takes 3 or more phone calls and each time you have to call to beg them to do their job they are annoyed. My latest experience-I needed a copy of my dog's prescription faxed to my new vet. I called twice, the new vet called twice. Still no movement. Called again this morning and the call went straight to voicemail. I am now out of my dogs prescription and am left scrambling to get my dog's necessary medication by tonight. I just moved to the area and The Hingham Animal Clinic was highly recommended to me by my previous vet. Sadly, I couldn't be more disappointed. I trekked my way over there with my dog in a huge snow storm and found that the parking lot and sidewalk were never shoveled out. I ended up getting my car stuck and it took 20 minutes to exit the lot. When I entered we weren't greeted at check-in. When the staff finally came they were unwelcoming and rude. The vet came in with a cold demeanor, was very judgmental when I told him where my dog came from. After he put my dog in uncomfortable(yet necessary) positions when checking him, he scolded me for not holding him enough. My dog is aways on my lap, cuddling with me and he loves being held and touched by other people. The only saving grace was the lovely Vet technician that was kind to my dog. read more

I moved here a few weeks ago and I literally got off the plane and grabbed my large dog from baggage claim when he started hacking. I didn't need a vet's opinion to know it was kennel cough - I immediately brought him to Hingham Animal Clinic because it happened to be the vet closest to where I was staying. They quickly got him in and gave me antibiotics to kick the cough. My dog is a walking wrecking ball and is constantly eating plastic bowls, nylabones, dead birds, infested with tick bites, you name it - he has it or will have it again in the near future. I've already had to take him back to get antibiotics for a very inflamed tick bite. They are very accommodating and understanding of my spastic dog. Knowing that we just moved to Boston, they recommended that he get vaccinated for lime disease and provided info on the disease. I appreciated that as I've never had to deal with it. I really like the vet that goes back & forth between NYC. I'll keep bringing my dog back to see her even after we move into the city. She was really helpful with my crazy dog and recommended some activities to help calm him down. read more

Not a fancy place like the VCA, but the Dr. Waters is excellent and attentive, prescribing the tests and medication that are needed, but not "everything that you could possibly do" to maximize fees (which is my perception of the practice at the VCA). Techs are caring. My dog loves it there and gets giddy with glee every time we arrive. Adding an update. They have renovated the office and it looks great. Bright and clean. Also Dr. Waters has expanded his staff and added two new vets. I've seen both and they have the same sensibility as he does. They have also added acupuncture which I can't wait to try for one of my elderly dogs, only $50 a session (half the price of VCA). read more

A friend referred me. They are the last of the small town vets and the nicest, most caring - and practical - I have ever dealt with in all my years of pet ownership. I would recommend them to anyone and will. Their prices are reasonable and the staff is great. To the person that called the place a dump. You are entitled to your opinion. It's in an old house but it is clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. If I could give zero stars I would. The receptionists are rude and give the attitude that you are an annoyance when you call for an appointment. If your pet is injured or sick their immediate response is call the VCA we have no appointments available for days. I called at 7:45am on a weekday- not a holiday and not a weekend and was told we have 3 Emergency visits per day and they are full. You should have called at 7:30am. I did call at 7:30am and got a busy signal until 7:45am. So I ask is there any way to get an Emergency appointment for tomorrow now -their response NO try again tomorrow. They do not care that your pet is sick or injured. I called another Veterinarian's office where I was not a patient and they were incredibly kind and caring and got my pet in for an appointment within a couple of hours. Needless to say they are now my new vet. It looks like I am one of many who no longer take their pets to Hingham Veterinary it is a shame because Dr Waters was an amazing vet. read more

My dog came in for teeth cleaning and died from the procedure by an improper general- anesthesia dosage. Then the Vet didn't have any compassion called me while I was driving, upset me terribly and I almost had an accident. When I called back, she was defensive, interruptive, condescending and would not take responsibility. Last time she did not kill my other dog but was equally obnoxious. Small vet office on Route 3A Hingham. I've seen three different veterinarians with our German Shepherd when he was being treated for prostate cancer. All three were great. Tight parking lot, and can be tough getting out onto 3A. Most appointments are three weeks plus out, but you can call in the morning to see if there are cancellations. read more

I went with my GF over the summer with her 2 cats. Although the Dr. seems competent, the place is a dump. The vet tech (an obvious smoker) made her cat smell like an old pack of cigarettes since she was holding her during the examination. The waiting room had some old towel on the floor, granted it was raining that day, and one doesn't want to slip, but why not a door mat? I don't get creeped out easily, nor am i a germ-a-phobe. However, this place was really run down, and gives me bad vibes. I wouldn't take my animals there. I know my GF had been taking her cats there for many years and have a history, but this place needs to get their $h!t together! I would suggest Kingston Animal Hospital, not the cheapest, but not a dump.. read more

I am horrified. I picked up my puppy this past week from a recent neuter and he smelled like rotting dead fish. I have never smelled anything like this in my life. I was concerned about the smell as I have never encountered this in any of my past dogs neutering's. His paws were matted and dirty and his whole belly was soaking wet. I called the vet at 5:30pm and no one was there to respond to my questions about his condition or what could be causing the smell. I reached my old out of state Vet and he said to keep an eye on him until I could reach the surgeon and to bring him to an emergency clinic if he was showing any advanced discomfort. I reached the vet the next business day and they were extremely rude and defensive about my concerns. The tech said the smell was from a solution used to stop swelling, which is fine and not really what my concern was, but when I told her it was his mouth that smelled she snapped back at me and told me I shouldn't have allowed him to lick his wound. I quickly explained that this was the condition he was given to me in, now leading me to believe from the severity of the odor he was left licking his wound as the vet for hours. She had no explanation about the matted fur or the soaking wet fur nearly 7 hours after the surgery was complete. Needless to say - I am taking him to another vet to have his stiches removed and will not return to this office. read more

He allows them to die with the dignity they deserve, unlike some emergency clinics I unfortunately have had to visit in the past. How much do I trust Dr. Waters and his staff? I wish they did children. We have used H.A.C. since moving to the South Shore back in 1982. 5 dogs and 8 cats later, they are still the only place we would consider. Fantastic gentle care, they understand these are members of our family. Yet they have a realistic view of animals and have encouraged "letting them go" when their quality of life if gone or they are living in pain. There are a lot of options on the south shore for vet care, but we happily travel two town north to Hingham and will continue to do so. read more

My cat Isabella was diagnosed with nasal cancer in February. She had 3 pallative radiation treatments and I was looking for holistic options to keep her healthy as long as possible. In May I made an appt with Dr Saks. I was running late and called to let them know I would be 10 minutes late. It would have been nice if they had informed me she was running late as well,my poor kitty and I had to wait in the teeny tiny waiting area surrounded by dogs for 40 minutes. Sr Saks did an exam that basically involved cleaning Isabella's ears and quickly rattled off a couple of herbal remedy ideas.The exam was rushed and as I sat in my car immediately after the appt I saw Dr Saks leave,guess that's why she rushed our exam. She had exchanged email addresses with me,I figured although no useful information was gained during the visit maybe I could learn something through emails. A few days later I emailed her some questions and got no response. A week later I tried again....still no response. At that point I gave up. Unfortunately Isabella died last month and I was reminded of the wasted time with this uncaring vet. I never did find a good holisitic vet read more

I have been going to this clinic for at least 40 years, and it is the best! Craig, one goes to the vet for the health of their pet, not for a high end building. It is always clean, and the vet techs are as wonderful as Dr. Waters. I have had 3 dogs, and 4 cats seen at this clinic, and they have had outstanding care. I moved to Boston 5 years ago, and still come back to Hingham to have Dr. Waters care for my 14 year old dog, who continues to be in good health. Love, love, LOVE it here. The staff is fantastic and are always around to answer any question you may have. I have called them for some silly things before, and if they don't know the answer, they will take the time to ask Dr. Waters and call you back. The prices cannot be beat - we were recently scammed into seeing another local vet (were told the prices would be dirt cheap if we brought both our dogs in together) and I can say that the Hingham Animal Clinic would have been $200.00 CHEAPER than the place that scammed us. After bringing all of my beloved pets (four cats/one dog) - over a period of 37 years - to this clinic for all of their treatments/vaccines/special diet needs/etc., today, when my 20-year-old dog was suddenly taken ill - clearly in pain and listless, and perhaps at the end of her life - I called to ask that she be seen some time today. The woman who answered the phone put me on hold twice to ask the veterinarians if I could bring my ailing dog into the office, and both times I was told no, they "were too busy, too booked" to see her today, but I could bring her in tomorrow. I told them she is probably not going to have a tomorrow, that she was clearly in pain, and still I got nowhere. When Dr. Waters operated this clinic, many years ago he came off a beach celebration on a July 4th evening to treat my cat, who had just suffered a stroke. Such kindness and understanding was certainly not on display today, and I will never return to Hingham Animal Clinic. read more
