This is one of my go-to places when I crave sushi. Good varieties of sushi. Our food did take a while to come out and we had to remind the server a few times of the missing items. Other than that, service was good and our servers were friendly even though they were busy. One other complain I have was the mackerel we ordered didn't seem as fresh as usual or they just cut it wrong, the fish was kinda falling apart. Habanero sauce, sliced jalapeños on top oh and fresh fish. My mouth was on FIRE! Their lunch special consist of 2 rolls and 1 appetizer for $13.99, not a bad price. We got 2 dragon rolls, 1 spider roll, 1 golden gate roll, and gyoza Dragon - Pretty good. Had good amount of unagi, shrimp, and crab. Rice was OK. Topped with lots of spicy mayo. Spider - Worst roll we got. It did not resemble any spider roll I have ordered before. Very small, not filling. We also only a half portion of this one when the other rolls had more pieces. Golden Gate - This roll was decent until we bit into the strange lemon slices (rind and all) that were put into the roll. The lemon rind ruined the taste of the roll. Gyoza - Pretty standard. Tasted like the Ling Ling brand ones you can buy at the supermarket. I give them one star for cleanliness and service and one star for affordability. COVID-19 ALL YOU CAN EAT! Lunch $21.99 Masks required except when seated at your table. Friday afternoon- no wait! All staff wore masks and gloves. Tables placed at least 6+ft apart from each other. You place your AYCE order by filling out the paper menu. It was our first time there, we were getting HANGRY, and we were eager to try everything! The server was very friendly, and it may be our fault we didn't ask for clarification on the menu. They had 3 different menus to turn in-- 1) Appetizers 2) Nigiri 3) Sushi Rolls We ordered our drinks, (Diet Coke $3.50, and hot tea $2.50), then turned in our appetizer orders. Edamame, mussels, takoyaki, miso soup, and veggie tempura. We enjoyed it all, except the tempura-- we'd skip on that next time. For the nigiri, we ordered tuna, cajan tuna, yellowtail, seared tuna, salmon, unagi, scallop, beef, "Donald Duck", and "Mickey Mouse"". It was mostly good, but the problem was that it all came out on 1 plate, so we didn't know what was what, and when we asked our server, she didn't know either... lol Sashimi isn't part of the AYCE, and although the rice-to-fish ratio was pretty good, we did get really full off of the nigiri. When our rolls came out, they also all came out on one plate, so we didn't know which was which, and again, neither did our server. On the menu you either check off a column under "Long Roll" or the next column that didn't have a title. Thinking there's only 2 of us, we didn't want LONG (entire) rolls of each order, so being a virgin to this restaurant, I could only assume the other option is Short (partial) Rolls... right?!!? HAHAHAHAH I was wrong. It was for "Hand Roll". Oops. No regrets. The hand rolls were all great. Golden Gate Mountain Spider R & B California Would definitely re-order them all if we didn't get so full from the nigiri. Their system is quite organized for a large group of 16, resulting in no missed orders. Sashimi was fresh, rice to fish portions were great and rice was properly seasoned and cooked. Presentation was great. Dessert included. Service-great and friendly. Overall, really impressed for an AYCE place. Good for kids too! I'll be back on our next trip! The menu is very diverse, each roll is very unique and doesn't taste like anything else you've already tried-- The yakiton and mussels are solid appetizers! My friend and I came here on a Friday afternoon and overall it was an alright experience. This spot is one of the better sushi places in Reno. We got there and it was right before dinner rush and got the all you can eat option. We got our appetizers quickly but the rolls took a long time. Right before our rolls came out, the server asked us if we had ordered. Probably our rolls were forgotten in the sea but they came out after that slip up. For appetizers, the quantities were very small. There was only one takoyaki in the order. It tasted so good we had to order two. The agadashi tofu was authentic Japanese tasting and the seaweed salad was delicious. The fish was fresh. The salmon nigiris were so delicious. The ratio of rice to fish was great. I had no problems with any of the nigiris I ordered. The rolls, unfortunately, were a different story. The Hionoki roll missed hard for both me and my friend. The balsamic and basil made it taste like an Italian dish called caprese. Personally, the balsamic was too overwhelming and did not work on a roll. Then I had the Yoyo roll and the lemon was too big and overpowering. Lastly, the R&B rolls had so much green onion that I could not taste anything else. Even though I did not enjoy those rolls, the Dragon roll was super good. I ordered it twice. I recommend this place for solid sushi. Don't try anything adventurous and you'll be satisfied. read more

A few days ago, I was just made the happiest pregnant lady when I ate here at Hinoki. I ordered take out a couple of times before but never sat down to have a meal. This time around I got the all you can eat option (lunch $20). I ordered almost every roll (with only cooked ingredients due to pregnancy) in hand roll form. I loved that all their rolls were available in hand roll form so I could taste everything. On top of that, each hand roll was well balanced with great combinations of ingredients and the right amount of each (I get overwhelmed by restaurants that use too much rice). The seaweed they use is top notch with great texture and flavor and they have out of the ordinary ingredients (mango, lemon peel, cilantro, Cajun tuna) and unique sauces (basil sauce, lemony honey sauce, balsamic sauce). I'm a raw fish lover and if these rolls tasted perfect without raw fish, then I'm sold. I can't wait to taste their raw options. The seaweed salad was super fresh and delicious and again, the perfect portion... The muscles were nice and clean with great flavor (nice dollop of siracha on top)... The takoyaki (Japanese ball snack made with batter and seafood) was just like the ones I'd get from Japantown in SF, delicious (though each order only comes with one so I'd order a few next time)... Miso soup was great.. And tempura banana ice cream dessert was heavenly. I also got a bite of my husband's green tea ice cream and that was super legit. I noticed that they also have a few vegetarian rolls, aside from your usual avocado and cucumber maki. My parents are vegetarian and I just know they'd enjoy this restaurant. Loved the ambiance inside (minimalistic and dim) and location with lots of parking. I wouldn't have mind if the waitress didn't come around all the time taking plates off the table as she did take a couple that I wasn't quite finished with. But overall, everyone was nice and service was super fast. It seems like Hinoki is run by a sushi aficionado owner that really wants their customers to enjoy Japanese food and sushi in its true raw form. A million thanks!! Awesome sushi! We decided to come here for the first time today and we will definitely be returning. The service was great. All the waitresses were very nice especially our waitress Xochitl who was so helpful with our questions. We informed her that it was our first time here and she took the time to explain everything even though they were very busy. Also they have coke products which was awesome. We ordered a bunch of sushi rolls and appetizers and everything came out so quickly. We had to wait no more than 5 minutes to get most of our food. Sushi was very fresh and delicious. This weekend we got to sit down inside and do the AYCE menu! We had multiple orders of miso soup, gyoza, mussels, and edamame over the course of the evening and everything was delicious each time. We had four rolls, spider, dragon, mountain, and yo-yo! We were surprised by how refreshing the yo-yo roll was, that was one of our favorites for sure! Each item came out really quickly after we placed our order, but the staff was really respectful and let us take our time to finish our drinks and the last of our rolls before bringing us the check. I heard about the new Hinoki Omakase restaurant opening up, and I wanted to check out the AYCE place before I dropped $120 for Omakase. The place is nice and has great parking. All of the staff were on top of their game, and super friendly. I ordered the King Kong roll, the Dragon Roll, Mussells, and 1 Ebi nigiri. The mussells were super bomb, really enjoyed them. The King Kong roll didn't taste like much, and also kind of tasted like the oil it was fried in was stale or something. Bland and had a weird taste. The Dragon roll was 100% inedible, it tasted like butane fuel. Like it wasn't just a little bit, you could even smell it on the roll. The ebi was limp, and kind of fishy tasting (cooked shrimp shouldn't taste fishy). All in all, even though everyone there was really great, service was awesome, and they didn't charge me for the Dragon roll, I left disappointed, unsatisfied, and still hungry. I don't think I'll be going to their new Omakase spot. Really bummed about this. read more

We decided to try someplace different for all you can eat (AYCE) sushi. This restaurant is a farther drive from where we live. It's on Longley right off of McCarran. The restaurant is simple, spacious and open. The servers are prompt and ordering what you want is pretty straight forward. What stands out on the menu here is that they have Takoyaki and Shitake Mushroom nigiri. One roll that stood out to me was their Hinoki Roll. Not only was the presentation beautiful, but it was very flavorful. The basil and balsamic sauces together made every bite enjoyable! Their other rolls were delicious as well. We also ordered a lot of salmon and yellowtail nigiri. To finish everything off we had strawberry ice cream. No ice cream mochi here compared to other AYCE sushi restaurants, but no biggie! The quality of sushi and portion size was very comparable to what I ate in Japan. They are taking reservations so take advantage of that. These are all you can eat and made to order so it may take a while but worth the wait. I love that this place has some special rolls and characteristics. They had a roll with basil sauce dressing and cajun style, pretty interesting. My favorite was the rolls with salmon skin because they make it super crunchy! My second was that the rolls are small so you can have a good variety and most of these rolls can be in a roll or hand roll. The staff was friendly and helpful, good at checking in on us and safely wearing their gloves and masks. I definitely recommend trying this place. read more

Hinoki is a hidden gem in the south Reno area! The sushi is great one of the best I've had in Reno fresh and well put together even contributions of everything, they don't over for it with the rice like many places in the area. I tried the R&B, Dragon, and spider rolls and the mussels, edamame, and Yakiton as appetizers and let me tell you they came through! I wish I could give a 4.5 because they don't deserve a solid 4 the only reason they were docked was because the Spider roll was not good the soft shell crab didn't taste fresh like their other rolls and it lacked in a lot. The other reason was due to the service in the beginning lacked for a party of 5 with only 2 all you can eats they messed up our orders a few times (and yes they wrote it down) however they made up for that with excellent customer service I felt like we were the only diners because multiple servers came and checked on us and ensured our dinning experience was worth it. Hinoki is a small but mighty space they have enough space for about 20 tables so if you have plans to go, go before you actually want to ensure you get a table quickly.
