As we walked in the lady at the counter was very pleasant and accommodating, explained everything I asked about lol. I ordered the blue burger which comes with blue cheese and bacon, and hubby ordered one with jalapeño and bacon. He also ordered some lemon pepper wings. Everything was well seasoned and yummy to my tummy, especially because I've been doing really good on my diet and working out. What's one cheat day anyway! The restaurant itself is not too big and not too small. I personally do not like sitting near any restrooms,and this one had a lingering odor in which I wanted no parts of, so we sat near the front. I have been a fan of Hippo for several years going back to their original location in Humble. This outpost is their newest and is located directly beside Hwy. 6 N in a small strip center with adequate parking available in front. Inside its a counter service restaurant with a self serve drink machine. I ordered the Classic Burger with a side order of sweet potato fries and drink for about $13 with tax. This price was a la carte because Hippo doesn't offer combo deals. The food was ready in less than 10 minutes and I started with the sweet potato fries first. While they were a little limpy they still tasted rich in flavor. The burger, served upside down, was just as juicy and tasty as those served at their other locations. Delicious! I'm glad Hippo is able to keep their food at the same high quality no matter where you buy it. Hippo Burgers is easily on my Top 5 burger list in Houston. The beef patties are well seasoned, flavorful, dressed well and on a nice bun at a fair price. They prove that you can serve a quality hamburger for under $8. read more

If you want a messy specialty burger this is the place. I loved how messy the burger was. Flavor came from the meat patty. I can see why some individuals would think it's salty but which all the condiments it really complimented it. My only one criticism is the fries were a bit too mushy for my taste. But they're seasoned and good. Service was great. I like it when you can ask someone what their thoughts on the menu are and what they recommend. Especially when she seemed sincere in wanting to share what's best seller etc. They bring your meal to the table after ordering. Place is cute, simple. Not very large. But clean. Good food, horrible customer service. Needs new staffing. I walked in, didn't get greeted or acknowledged as I walked in and stood there waiting. I saw the staff eating in the back not looking at me or saying anything such as, "be right with you!" Which wouldve made me more okay with waiting even tho I could see them eating and laughing in what looked like the kitchen. Finally someone different came out of somewhere other that the kitchen, and took my order and admittedly they were nice I left a tip despite the bad first impression. I was forgiving but then there was miscommunication with my order, and how it was handled was not courteous or friendly. I was argued with and ignored. I was less impressed with mine, but I think it's because I prefer less meat - either 1/4 or 1/3 lb. is enough for me. The onion rings were excellent, and the garlic fries were good as well. New burger place close to my house! So we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is clean, especially the bathrooms. The employees are very friendly and helpful. Even though Hippo Burgers hasn't been open very long, they seem to have quite a few customers. The thing I don't like is the burgers! Yes, I know.. but they serve smash burgers and that's just not my thing. I like crunchy onions, crisp lettuce and fresh tomatoes, but when it's all smashed you just don't get any of that. Visited this place a while back (April 2023), just now getting into to writing a review. Went on a Tuesday afternoon so it wasn't busy. Ordered two burgers #2 H Cheeseburger and #3 H Special plus onion rings and two mike shakes. We give the food one maybe two stars, the burgers were dried out over cooked even though we had requested all the way with all the condiments. They cost way too much for such poor quality. We were very disappointed as we hoped the food would be better than the fast-food burgers just down the street. They were not. Service was also lacking and merit a one star. Staff was totally disinterested in waiting on us and offered no suggestions or upgrades to our meal. The restaurant was clean but lacked any warmth, we guessed it was because they had not been open very long. So three stars on this item. Over all too pricy for quality of food and lack of service. This is a good place. The burgers are big, tasty, and around the same price as the bigger chains are these days. They cooked them rather quickly, and got them to us just as quick. They're a local place, so I see no reason to spend a ton of money at places like Burger King or McDonald's. They also have Manzanita Sol at the fountain, so that puts this place up there in my book. They also have a Drive Thru if you don't want to sit inside. I just wish everything was cheaper, but that's more of a broad statement about the economic situation. read more

For a burger joint, it's good! They do need to work in their fries. We ordered the garlic fries and they put that bottled wet garlic on the fires. I would have preferred garlic salt instead. I got the hippo special burger and tater tots as my side and what I loved about this popping restaurant is how clean their environment is and the quality of their food. This restaurant is a a la carte type of restaurant but their food will not disappoint you if you're looking for a good burger restaurant. Also, I love how fast they serve your food and their staff are so friendly.
