HONEST TEAM I been turned down from these guys now 5 times because it was something that didnt require money to fix. Last time I took my mom's car and they said take it to Toyota and they will fix it under warranty for free, and my mom gave Saul a box of donuts because they wont charge us. These guys are probably the LAST honest working people I know. Today I was turned down for service because my 4Runner's engine light came on and I took it to them, He checked and within 3 mins came back and said "I think you just didn't put the gas cap back on correctly, so I reset the engine lamp and later if it comes back on, then come back No charge" . WTF ? They could of lied to me and kept my truck for a few days and charged me whatever, but they kept it 100. Thank you Katsu san and Hiro's auto team, not to mention Saul ! One day, being the moron that I am, I randomly decided to drive way too fast over a dip that I know very well. Needless to say, I broke my car. :( I drove around for about a week or more, hoping that the horrible, grating noise would go away. Well, it didn't, and I couldn't handle any more pedestrians or drivers turning to stare at me when they heard my car braking. I'm broke, and I'm scared that a random auto shop will take advantage of me. After asking some of my male "car" friends for suggestions, the unanimous recommendation was Hiro's. I called in the morning, was told to come by in a couple hours, and three hours later, my car was fixed! A few more problems were uncovered, but they don't seem to be emergencies, so I was advised to come in after the new year. I used to take my Jeep to the dealer service centers, mainly because simple oil changes didn't cost that much and they could do stuff under warranty and especially in Long Beach and Santa Monica they did good work. Now that my warranty is done and the recommended work from my most local dealer's service center in the South Bay began to seem both over-cautiously unecessary and outrageously priced, I come to Hiro first. If there is something that they feel uncomfortable fixing or don't have the right computer to diagnose properly, they will tell you. They are great though at mechanical and maintenance issues. They are awesome! They were referred to us by a good long time friend, and replaced my rear brakes last year. They did an excellent job, brakes work extremely well, and I love the ceramic pads they used! I believe they were ceramic. Now, very recently my wife's MDX was diagnosed by the Acura dealer that it needs new brakes, very soon, front and rear, down to 2 mm of pad. So I took her car in for inspection a few days ago, and after evaluating both ends, found 50% left on both, saying she is safe, and probably has 2 years more till replacement is needed! They said the dealerships do this all the time, recommending things that are not truly needed. I've always known this, and only utilize dealer service while under warranty. This time, no exception, as the car was taken to them for an unrelated problem, not a maintenance issue. Hiro did not even charge me for brake inspection! So cool of them! My other long time mechanic up in Lawndale has charged me for inspection alone before! He does great work, but is always super busy, and it's triple the time and distance to get there for us. Being a female with very little knowledge or passion when it comes to cars, I have great reservations when taking my car in for service - whether it is at the dealer or private mechanic. I brought my Lexus in for the usual maintenance service and found Hiro's to be hassle-free. I told them what type of service I needed based on the Lexus maintenance recommendation and they provided their honest opinion. For example, the recommendation was to replace brake fluid but they told me I didn't need to do it since it was still fine. The service was done in less than an hour. Wanted to charge me for parts and labor at a reasonable price but I had already bought the fluid so all I needed was the labor and he charged me way less than the other places!! These are my local mechanics, chosen because I can walk home and wait there for them to call to come pick up my car. If I do want to wait, they have a small little sitting area with free coffee and wifi. Each time I go in for an oil change, they've always printed out a list of repairs I will likely need in the future, which I appreciate so that I can plan. It's usually things like a leaky something or other, not a problem yet but we'll need to fix eventually. And then an estimate of the price. One time they did give me a future service estimate that totaled quite a bit, but it included lots of things like new tires, new brakes, new this, new that...and in all honesty, I did likely need those new things. My favorite Hiro Auto Service story...I went to my local Toyota dealer to take care of a recall. While getting that done, the dealership *of course* found some other things that needed fixing. One being a $2000 oil leak that, according to them, required them to hoist my car up, drop down the engine, take apart the engine, fix the leak, then rebuild the engine. Ummm...my car wasn't even giving a hint that it was leaking oil, but OK. I told them we'll think about it. They sent me home with scary paperwork all in red about how I need to fix this leak ASAP or *dum dum dum* else. The next week I took my car into Hiro for an oil change and low and behold, they also found a leak. They fixed it for, wait for it, $60. Turned out it was some rubber gasket or something. My wife got hit by someone who ran the red light and the damage to the car was pretty bad. So after the insurance company gave us a check to get the car fixed. We didn't know who to trust with her car. So of course we looked at yelp and brought it here. They had great reviews and have been around forever. They were very nice and friendly staff who made us feel comfortable with leaving her car with them. They did take some time to fix the car but there was a lot of damage. But when we got the car back we could not even tell that it got into an accident. They did a great job and we were very happy. It saddens me to have to write a bad review for a place that used to offer great service but it has to be said, the management at Hiro's is atrocious. I was first referred to Hiro's from a friend of mine who had frequently used Hiro to take care of his car needs. Being new to the area at that time, I took his advise and checked this place out. After my first visit I enjoyed the quality of work and continued to go there for my car needs. Everything and anything in between from oil changes to replacing a timing belt I brought to Hiro's. Needless to say I spent quite a bit of money here and had up to that point trusted and honestly enjoyed getting my car serviced here. That all changed one unfortunate and terrible day when one bad visit left a taste to sour in my mouth EVER to get me to go back to for lack of a better word, trust my car with the asshole manager at Hiro's. Long story short I had been having an issue with my vehicle, my engine would pretty much just shut off randomly and without warning from time to time, then start back on. In fact my car would pretty much just shut down. The breaks would stop working and even the power steering would go out! Obviously this was a pretty dangerous situation to be in so I took it immediately to the fine mechanics at Hiro. First and foremost I want to make clear I don't blame the mechanics and heck to this day would even trust them to do work on my vehicle again if not for the manager. I don't want to make this too personal and start naming names but anyone who goes there or plans to will have to deal with him so just prepare. Anyway they couldn't quite figure out the problem with what was exactly causing it and since my vehicle had been well maintained and seemingly no reason it should do that advised that I drive it a bit more and if the problem occurs again bring it in immediately. So under their advise I left and sure enough when it happened again I came back. This is where the trouble started happening. I don't know if it was some sort of miscommunication or misunderstanding but the way the manager treated me that day made me truly regret ever having spent one cent of my hard earned money at a place that cared so little for not only customer service but customer safety! As the mechanic was talking to me and advising me on what best to do the manager took me aside and very harshly referred me to seek service at another shop. I was really confused and honestly taken a bit back by this. I thought he was joking. To this day I have no idea why he felt this way and chose to handle this situation so poorly. I could totally understand had I been rude, unruly, or even causing a scene to kick someone out but up until he arrived the conversation between me and the mechanic was cordial, respectful and just plain friendly. There really did not seem like any reason business as usual shouldn't have taken place, but if I knew the reason why I wouldn't be writing such a negative review I suppose. So it really perplexed me on why I was basically being kicked out of the shop that I had been going to for about 2 years at this point. I'm not one to cause a scene so I simply asked had I done something wrong or did something to offend him, because if so it was 1) not my intent and 2) if there was a misunderstanding I would like to apologize if I caused it and would like to move forward amicably. However the manager simply go mad and angrily yelled go somewhere else we don't want your business. Keep in mind this was done in a very deliberate, rude, and manner in which to insult. To THIS DAY I have no idea what I did. In fact I wish i knew. Maybe he was having a bad day? Maybe he confused me with someone else? I don't know. But to send a loyal customer away who has spent thousands of dollars on work there is just unacceptable and made me feel compelled to warn others about this place. Add into the fact I was still left with my dangerous vehicle issue. You might not have this same experience and I hope you don't but if it happens don't be surprised. There are better places out there that value customer loyalty and know how to maturely and rationally. read more

I found Hiro about a year ago after SB Toyota tried to scam me for hundreds of dollars in work my car didn't need. Hiro took a complete look at my car and only found minor things - saving me tons of money. At my last visit I paid and then got a phone call that they had overcharged me for an item that I didn't get. They were so very apologetic on my voicemail. They sent me a copy of the original bill with the credited invoice as well as a free oil change and a letter that clearly expressed their fault. It was a small over charge, but the integrity of this business is amazing. How many people have experiences such as this with their auto service??? Disappointed. Usually they are very understanding with taking people in for an emergency cause they are closed on holidays but I am disappointed with their customer service. Rude guy picked up and didn't even care or acknowledge that I needed to get an oil change and I'm one of their valued customers. He didn't even care that it was an emergency. Oil change doesn't take long and he advise that it takes 45 min to an hour . All the times that I came there it only took them 15 min. I am beyond disappointed. Well we had to get alternator replaced. Was told it may take two days cause they were busy the day I had it towed there. Then I got a call in the afternoon telling me what exactly the problem was how much it will cost and it will be ready the same day. I was running late and they offered to stay open until we got there. Again this Mech shop is clean professional and even my wife like this shop cause its clean and the waiting room is comfortable. I give them 4.5 stars cause they are so popular and I think they raised there prices just a little but I still think they are the most honest reliable Mech around. Excellent service. I went it to repair a very broken side mirror on a Lexus IS 250. They were able to replace the mirror at a very reasonable price in a short amount of time. Took my car in for an oil change. They could of totally ripped me off as I told them to do whatever needed to be done. I believe his name was "jay" ? Not sure. Quoted me and told me he would only do what was needed. They did the oil change and mentioned some things that will need to be done eventually. (Normal service things which my cars manual says that should be done at a certain amount of miles.) he checked everything out and quoted me prices for things if I decide to take care of in the future. The guys at this shop were very friendly and professional. I immediately felt that I can trust them and will refer them to friends. Also, they offered coffee while I wait. By 1225pm, I had a new alternator, clean battery leads, a declination of unnecessary work that I forecasted (battery change), and a renewed faith in mankind and decent, honest businessmen. Came back here again now with a new car. My complimentary maintenance with Toyota just recently ended and the dealership told me on my next visit to them I must replace my pads and must resurface my rotors. They quoted me $294 and it is subject to change depending if I have to replace my rotors. I went to Hiro since I know how honest they are and their work is 2nd to none! Jun checked in my car and prepared my car for the oil change. He the found out my brakes doesn't need replacement soon as I still have about 40% on the pads! Good job Toyota! And they also paired up my 2 brand new tires and placed it on the front because according to Toyota Cerritos they have to charge me for labor and they must balance the wheels again if they will do that. LMAO!!! They think I know nothing about cars and they think I can fall for their moves! Long story short: 1. immediately felt comfortable with the whole idea of a mechanic and knew they were honest and we were not going to get raped (figuratively speaking). 2. He looked at HIS car because there was something going on. I didn't ask... it came up in the conversation and they evaluated it for free. 3. They kept the car and figured out what was wrong. Constant communication and never once did I feel like I was being talked down to, or being told a "story." It was "this is what's wrong, here's what we can do, call us back with a decision." I have taken multiple of my cars to Hiro Auto Service for many years for services and fixes now. They have always been honest about what they do and charge, and never tried to sell me service that I don't need. In fact they have even persuaded me to delay replacements on brake pads because there is still plenty of useful life left on those pads. They also at times would make minor fixes free of charge if it doesn't take a lot of time. There is a review from a user complaining that Hiro uses cheap Chinese oil filter. However, the picture of the "Chinese" filter actually has Japanese text, not Chinese text. Based on my past experience that my cars never had any problem after Hiro replaced my oil, and that Hiro takes great pain to ensure the right type of oil should be used (synthetic vs traditional), I trust the parts that Hiro uses on my cars. read more

I'll be honest, I do not like to deal with mechanics. I have had too many bad experiences with them in the past. My wife felt like it was time for a tune-up so it was time to visit a mechanic. Unfortunately, my wife's uncle's mechanic shop closed down and we had to find a new shop. The car also needed an oil change. Robert recommended that I bring the car in for an oil change and they could take a look under the hood to see what we "needed". Slightly skeptical I agreed thinking I would get a long list of things of which I would have to try to decipher and eliminate half. I was surprised when Robert told me that I did not need a tune-up but I did need to have my timing belt replaced (which I already knew because it had been last changed over 100 000 miles ago), and my front brakes replaced. He also told me the gasket cover was leaking but it wasn't an urgent issue. I asked again if we should just do a tune-up now so I wouldn't have to bring my car back in but he insisted my car did not need a tune-up. Good experience read more
