My wife told me to go to this place. There are many other auto shops in the area that are closer than this place but I was told they are honest and do good work. I showed up and immediately was helped. I believe his name was Robert. I explained my problem and he said that it did not sound like an alternator problem. He then told his assistant to pull my truck into a bay so they could check it out. They tested a few things and then told me what to do and try out first. If it does not work then bring it back and they would check out some other things. He said he did not want to waste any of my money so try his recommendations first. I was very impressed with their honesty and willing to help. I highly recommend this place. He did not even charge me for his time! read more

Before coming to Hiro, I use to take my car to another local mechanic for all my basic services. After purchasing a new car, I wanted the absolute best service that was a) competitively priced and b) reliable. Not to say that my previous mechanic didn't meet those standards, but they were just so, for lack of better words, bare-bones with their service. You ask for oil change, they take your car, change your oil/filter, your car gets returned. What I love about Hiro is that I come in asking for an oil change, they ask me what kind of oil I want, they take my car, change the oil/filter, check the brakes/tires, and provide me a diagnostic report once their done. No pushy sales pitches; just "this is where this is at, you can probably afford x amount of time before you need to get that changed." I love that they go the extra mile for the same amount I was paying at my other mechanic. The only con about this place is their popularity. Good luck trying to get your car serviced on a walk-in. I tried on a Tuesday afternoon assuming it would be empty, but unfortunately had to make an appointment for the weekend. I think his name is Sal needs to lighten up and change his attitude on the phone because his attitude sucks and when I call he makes it seem like I'm not a priority. My new go-to spot for Auto Repair. I'm not trying to give more power to a stereotype but I'm a woman and I don't know shit about cars. If something sounds weird with my car, I usually just turn up the radio until I can't hear the noise anymore. Well, since my radio has been broken for about 2 years, it's hard to ignore my Jeep's cries for help. I was driving to work and my "Check Gages" light came on, steering wheel wouldn't turn, smoke came out from under my hood and I could hear coolant boiling. Rad. I was able to roll into work and knew my car was hammered so I had to get AAA to tow me somewhere. I immediately googled "Auto Repair 90501" to find the nearest garage and saw that Hiro's had great reviews. AAA tried to get me to go to one of their "recommended" mechanics and the one they suggested had heinous reviews across the board. Nope. After my car was towed to Hiro's, I received a call from Robert explaining all that happened to my car - Serpentine Belt Idle's pulley broke, causing the Serpentine Belt to fall off and basically send my car into crazy town. I braced myself for the estimate (that I knew was probably going to be around $1,000.00) and Robert told me the estimate was $190.00. AWESOME! I also told him about an unrelated problem that I would need fixed before I register my car in September (because I have to get it smog checked and my catalytic converter makes my car sound like a rock polisher when I drive it - I know it will fail) and he said he'd give me an estimate on it but suggested I wait until August (closer to registration time). That's awesome, I was prepared to pay for the extra work and get it out of the way and he encouraged me to wait. So rad. My whole experience was so wonderful and painless, I will continue to go to them for as long as I live in So Cal. Honest, friendly, clean, considerate, efficient, amazing. For the past few months, I have been looking for an A/C repair for my car. I searched here on Yelp and found this place very close to my job. Decided to call and the nice person on the phone scheduled my appointment a week from when I called, me thinks because their work ethics, Yelp and word of mouth are keeping them busy. I dropped my car off and walked to work. Long walk... phew Anywho, unfortunately, they could not find the problem as it seems to be more complicated than I thought. The diagnosis was FREE! They recommended a visit to the dealer but I will wait off on that... I don't really feel like selling my soul to the devil! XD As I was driving off, I noticed my check engine light was on which was not there when I took the car in. I couldn't back because I had other things to do but I went back later on in the day and they fix it. Just a simple reset of the computer and I was off and running. Saul, Hiro and everyone else in the front desk area are all very friendly. The shop looks nice and neat, so does the office. I would definitely go back there again for other services. These people are very very honest. They never suggest more work than is necessary and they give you all of your options. I had to get my air mass flow sensor replaced which cost $250 for the part and $45 for the labor. When I picked up my car, the check engine light turned on again. I brought it back in and they found that my throttle body needed to be cleaned also. They cleaned it no charge and my car now runs smooth as ever. read more

Long overdue review. This shop is honest and will quote fairly. Oil changes are only $25. They will diagnose for free when my Lexus dealer charges $150. Some of my lights were misfiring and they reset it no charge. The manager at Lexus actually told me he thought my transmission was bad without doing the actual diagnosis, terrible corporate service. read more

Honest and thorough mechanic. These guys take pride in their work. What I thought was a starter problem turned out to be an old battery. In addition they found the culprit of my oil leak without me asking them about it. They also found four nails in my right rear tire and called me after I had picked up my truck to let me know. I also asked them to check my rear brake pads to confirm that a different shop had actually replaced them like they said they did. After all that they charged me $20 labor. Customer for life. Very honest mechanics. One time Pep boys messed up my car by not attaching tubes correctly to my Acura. I went to them to fix my car overheating. Bad move. They messed it even more, and charged me $400. I took it to Hiro Auto based on a friend's recommendation. Hiro showed me by not attaching tubes correctly coolant was leaking everywhere. They only stock and use the correct fluids for imports and have always gone above and beyond not only fixing what was agreed upon but replaced old shroud buttons I knew were missing. Condescending and proud of it! These guys are competent mechanics and will keep their word on cost and how long a repair will take as long as you make an appointment beforehand. But if you're a woman who knows something about cars, you can expect to be treated with patronizing, sexist condescension, particularly by the Latino mechanic I dealt with. I have no plans for returning here and, in particular, I wouldn't refer any of my female friends to this repair shop. Long before I relocated to Southern CA from the SF Bay Area, I used to have a 1987 Toyota Corolla 2-door coupe. This car was manufactured on the cusp of the computerized age when chips and sensors ended up everywhere in the vehicle, so I was able to work on the car. At one point, it wouldn't pass smog so using a Haynes manual as a DIY guide, I removed the cylinder head and EGR valve and ground out the carbon deposits. You can tell when you've put things back together correctly when the car starts back up and you have no "leftover" parts ;-). And, yes, the car did pass the smog test, so renewing registration was hitch free. I no longer have the time or equipment to do the work on my own car anymore, so I rely on the honesty and integrity of a repair shop. It's fine to know your stuff and to be proud of it, but there is no reason to treat a customer as though she doesn't know the car's brake system from its motor when I clearly know the difference. read more

When my husband arrived, the team determined that we needed a new alternator. My husband told them that we still had 395 miles to complete our trip. This is a story I must tell. My 92 year old father's 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport developed a bad misfire at exactly 100,100 miles - just out of warranty. He was a loyal Hyundai dealer service customer, with a perfect service history on his Santa Fe, but the dealer sat on this problem for months (no loaner car, no action, nothing but excuses and talk) before finally hitting him with a $9,081 estimate to replace the engine. I said "Dad, get it towed to Torrance. Let's try Hiro." AAA did the free 130-mile tow - absolutely lovely operation there - and Hiro had a careful look at the problem. There was zero compression in one of the cylinders, due to a bad valve. He said he was pretty sure he could get the head remachined and the engine going again for about $2500. My dad's decision was "Go for it!" (Note: Strangely, the Hyundai service department at Palm Springs Hyundai not only gave him the above engine replacement estimate, but told him Carmax would pay $11000 for the car, once it was fixed - as if that was great news.) Anyway, about ten days after he got the car, Hiro called to say the head and engine work were finished, and it was running well, but there was a minor idling problem. He said I might have to go to Hyundai to get fixed (ug!) but asked me to let him keep working on it for a few days. We did, and sure enough, Hiro got that fixed, too. The car now ran perfectly. Total bill: $2442.00. Because my dad had already purchased another car to replace the Hyundai (gotta have a car to drive, even at 92) I took the repaired Santa Fe to Carmax, and they gave him $10500. It took a bit of effort - and that's why we go to dealers, I guess - but you do the math. Thank you, Hiro! read more

I brought my car in 2 days ago with the specific intention fixing my brakes which they supposedly did and charged me for parts and labor and here I am 2 days later and my brakes are worse than ever. Very very disappointed. Just moved to Torrance and was in search of a good and trustworthy car repair shop. Went here due to high yelp rating, BIG MISTAKE! Brought my car in at Hiro due to some issues with the transmission. They said they were pretty sure what needed to be replaced. I trusted them and told them to get it done. Next day, smoke was coming out of the hood of my car. Thought of bringing it back to them but changed my mind and brought it straight to the dealer. Dealer found a crack on my radiator. Not sure if they missed it and misdiagnosed the problem or tampered with the radiator on purpose. Will never find out since I am not coming here ever again! read more

I'm telling you, once again Hiro NEVER disappoints! My brakes started making noise and I should have brought them in to get serviced sooner..but being so busy and my commute being so lengthy I never had time. When I finally brought my car back to Hiro (the only place I trust my car the last 5 years) they took a look and as I suspected already, I needed new rear pads AND rotors. I know for a fact I needed rotors due to the sound they were making. They called me back, quoted me the price for rotors, pads, and labor. I agreed and waitined for my car to be ready. Upon arriving at Hiro's, the front desk gentleman, (forgot his name, cool guy) said that Hiro looked at my car's service history, and that I had a full brake job 10 months ago, and he didn't think the rotors/pads lasted as they should have....sooo the verdict? Hiro took off the labor charge and just billed me for the parts. Who does that in 2017? True story. I'm thankful for his generosity, and great business practices, and of course, I will definitely return with any car related issues and recommend to friends and family. I've been a fan of this auto shop for a year now. I found this place on yelp after the mechanic I usually go to was unable to diagnose a certain problem. Hiro use to be located behind South Bay Hyundai. When ever my car acts up the first thing in my mind is Hiro auto service. They helped me a couple times free of charged and I really appreciate that. I always wanted to pay for their service even if it was minor because I felt bad they didn't charge me for labor after solving my car's problem. I use to go to a different shop for oil/fluid changes and belts and such. Even after discovering Hiro's place I still went back to that mechanic. Just recently my AC wasn't blowing as cold as it use to be and the brakes started squealing when engaged. At the same time the car also needed a transmission fluid change and differential oil change. Normally I will go see the other mechanic for this, but this time I decided I should pay Hiro a visit so I can pay for their service while getting the AC and brakes checked. I guess it is my fault for not asking how much they charge for labor because it came out to be double what I expected. It was much more expensive than the other place and they worked on the AC without telling me. From experience, mechanics don't usually charge if they don't fix anything. They could've at least call me and tell me what they were going to do before adding Freon and changing a valve then charge me for it. I didn't sign up for that. At least let me know what you are doing. All I asked for was transmission fluid change and differential oil change then take a look at the brakes and AC. So I ended up having to pay for AC check plus parts. When I was handed the receipt I was a bit confused about what happened because I trusted these guys and here I am looking at extra charges I didn't ask for. The oil changes cost a bit more than I'm used to but I was fine with it because that's my problem for not asking. I then signed it because again I trusted these guys but after I walked out I felt played. Went back in and told them what was up so they deducted the AC labor but I still had to pay for parts. Overall I am still a bit unsatisfied. What if a customer cannot afford the extra work they do? As a college student I must add not everyone is ready for surprise charges. Luckily, they are willing adjust for their customers. Don't get me wrong though, these guys do quality work, I've had great experiences with these guys and thought they deserve nothing less than 5 stars. After what just happened though I will think twice about going there and next time definitely get a quote before anything. read more

I normally don't leave reviews... But this place seriously deserves it... First of all, i haaateeeee when my car has issues... I've never had a reliable mechanic... I don't even know who to trust. I bought this used Dodge Charger recently... i test drove it, seemed fine, and for two weeks it worked well... Then this light started coming on the dash board, and the car just wasn't running right... Not sure what the issue was. So I contacted the Dodge Dealer, and they suck ass, can't even take a simple appointment, on top of that, they wanted to charge me $200 just to look at the car! So I took it to Aamco, that claimed they do a free inspection, but they just checked the codes, still couldn't tell me what was wrong with it, and wanted me to pay them $200 as well to just do an inspection. All other mechanics were telling me to get rid of the car, it's a lemon, and that it'll probably cost me $2000 to fix!!! I was in a rut, not sure what to do, so I searched and searched the internet for a decent mechanic. Found Hiro Auto on yelp, read the good reviews... I took my car to them... they inspected the entire vehicle for free... they fixed ALL THE ISSUES for $200... it's been three months, car is still running perfect... I mean.. PERFECT... i feel they are my new secret weapon. I buy a lot of used vehicles.. and usually, if they have an issue, I just sell them off before it becomes major... Now... Hiro Auto Service took care of my valve cover gasket set replacement, 2002 Toyota Tacoma. They cleaned my idle valve for free since my truck would make a weird start-up sound and they gave my truck a good once over look. Toyota wanted $800 and some other place was around $450, but Hiro beat both of them in price and honesty by a long shot!
