I've been a long time customer of Hiro's Auto Repair, but it's been a few years since I went back for work done at the shop. Most of the service items were done at the dealership since they are closer to me. I went back to Hiro's recently after our Mazda CX9 needed front lower control arms and brake pads installed on all 4 corners. The dealer quoted me an astronomical amount, and the 1st order of business was to make an appointment with Hiro's Auto Repair! I dropped the SUV on the time agreed upon, and Hide made sure the work to be done was correct. I've been taking our Japanese cars to Hiro's since the early 90s. Hands down they are the best when it comes to reliable and honest work. They may not be the least expensive, however, they know their stuff and stand behind their work. I like that they understand that a 10 year old car is going to have issues and it's not going to be a new car, and, in my opinion, doesn't need to be, it only needs to be safe and reliable. Hiro's understands that, so they don't upsell you on issues that don't necessarily need fixed, at least not immediately. In addition, they've been good about letting me procure my own parts from Rockauto.com and then just charge me the labor to have them install. Some reviewers complain that Hiro's is so busy that they can't schedule an appointment right away. Supply and demand, get over it. These guys are good and worth the wait. read more

I have used Hiro's Auto Repair for well over 10 years. I have two older Toyota Hybrids (Prius and Highlander) and the service has been top notch. The front office person, Hidenori Shibusawa, was always able to help on short notice. Quality was absolute tops. Over the last six months, I had two repairs one on the Prius, one on the Highlander. The most recent one was today (26FEB). I needed to have an outside temperature sensor replaced. Without this sensor the A/C temperature does not properly work. I called to make an appointment. I explained to Dai, appartently the owner of the shop, what the problem was. He stated that they are booked out for three weeks and gave me 18MAR. This was the second time where I was told to about an appointment 3 weeks out. While I know these guys have a great following; i believe having to wait for three weeks is not way to conduct business. Really, who in car-culture SoCal has the leisure to wait three weeks to have the car fixed. I find it an audicious imposition to the clients. 5-star rating for Hiro's was the norm for me. Quality of work was high, I recomnmend Hiro's to everybody in my circle of friends and neighbors. After what has happened twice to me the last 6 months, it will be 1-Star for lack of responsiveness to clients' needs. Sorry, Hiro's guys, but that's the best I can do. We are a huge car family. Depending on which car we are working on and what is being done to it we have specific places we take them to. The Mister had a small issue with his older Nissan Sentra SER and this place was highly recommended by his uncle. They figured out the right wheel lowered suspension arm needed to be adjusted inward. They narrowed inward to help eliminate tire rub. Then pulled the fender a few mm. After all that they performed an alignment. If you do have a performance car, this is one of a few places that can be trusted. Prices are reasonable. But remember you get what you pay for. These guys are honest and hard working. Great experience with this local shop. Had my speedo cable break on a recent trip up Maple Springs. Also needed to address a few other minor issues on my 1984 Land Cruiser (DollytheFJ60). Previous owner had the engine rebuilt, the builder used some incorrect gaskets on the valve cover. Hiro's was able to recognize the issue and correct it. Also had a small exhaust leak from the egr pipe, they had the gasket I needed and sealed up the issue. Clear communication from start to finish. The main mechanic I spoke to is a previous FJ62 owner. Great shop for any Toyota specific needs. Would recommend highly. read more

my experience at this establishment was poor as I just got my land cruiser back from a mechanic who immediately needed to fix all the errors done at this shop. faulty welding job near the exhaust manifold gasket, a poor carburetor replacement job, and most importantly the vacuum lines were all done incorrectly. there are mechanics who work on these older cars well but this shop does not in my experience. my car broke down for the first time ever driving away from this shop. All good now after paying to have the work redone. read more

I rarely post reviews, but Hiro's Auto Repair is probably the best auto shop I've been to. I'm new to the area and visited a lot of auto shops, but didn't find one that I completely trusted. Luckily, I was recommended Hiro from a friend who works at a well known Auto Design company in the area. My car means a lot to me and I wanted to make sure it got the quality service it needed. Hiro was very professional, honest, and gave fair pricing for replacing my rotors, brakes, and oil change on my G37. They had a well experienced crew and tested everything to make sure the car was operating perfectly before handing it back to me. I've been taking my cars to HIro's for repairs or estimates for at least 10 years now. There used to be an auto shop up the street (MAS) that some of my friends who were more into cars recommended me to use, but after my own personal experiences with MAS turned into a $2,000 gut punch which didn't fix the problem with my car, I've just brought my car here to Hiro's. Koji and the guy do excellent work, and are always very thorough with their explanations of what the problem is, and are able to come in WAYYYYY under what you'd see elsewhere. I bring my Prius here for all major work. The dealership quoted me $1,000+ on a water pump replacement. Hiro did it for $200. My front windeshield got cracked on a road trip to Vegas, and all the other places in town wanted $500-$700. Hiro did it for around $150. If you've got a Japanese car, and you're trying to find someplace to that isn't going to rake you over the coals for decent service, get your trunk on down to Hiro. read more

Used to be very happy coming here until a recent visit where I was charged for service that I didn't request. They casually informed me at the end when it was time to pay they "took care of it" for me and I signed the receipt without thinking. When I called later to ask about it, I pointed out the work they did literally takes less than five minutes and yet they charged me 80 dollars for it. I was told this was their minimum labor charge which is nonsense. Had I been asked ahead of time, or known I would be charged 80 dollars for an insanely simple act of maintenance I would have refused on the spot. I won't be coming back again. Everything had been good until now and this is very disappointing. The two stars is taking into consideration the good service I've had until now. Having come here from a dishonest mechanic that would constantly try to upsell you on things you don't need I was very happy to have found Hiro's and recommended their shop to friends. So that day in my previous review came. I got a little cocky in the rain and hydroplaned in a low speed turn (but high speed for rain + UHP tires). Got lucky and only bent some wheels and the front right suspension. Flatbedded it over to Hiro's, and he got the car up and running in about 5 days (including wait time for new parts). They also seemed to have improved in their alignment skills as well. Last time I mentioned that, despite two attempts, the steering wheel was still off, but this time it was dead center, and the car felt very stable. He gave me some interesting settings, though, that I'm not used to. I'm not sure how I'll like it until I hit the track. Speaking of the track, despite focusing on general auto repair (a smart business move), it appears he also does some track support. I've seen the RS-R drift team trailer hanging by Hiro's more than a few times. Hiro himself told me he'll fiddle around with suspension settings if you give him track feedback. read more

I dont like to write bad reviews, unless its totally unreasonable. The price quote I got to install lowering springs at Hiro Automotive was double the highest price i got elsewhere. AND i called maybe 10-12 shops around orange county. My only advice is to shop around as I did. His quote really irked me, hence this review. In all fairness, I have no idea how their quality of work is. It is probably really good but at double the price of everyone else, Danica Patrick better be delivering it to my house. One of the few auto shops in OC who are very honest. They take good car with your car and when your car is in the shop, they follow up with you regarding your car situation. I had issues with my engine, but they were very helpful and my car got fixed good car. Please understand that the mechanics work 50hrs or more / per week to get your car good and done. They can get super busy at times but just keep calling them frequently and they should help you. read more

I'll put it as plainly as can be...Hiro's is the best! They were originally recommended to me some 18 years ago when I bought my first Honda (now a Mitsubishi), and they haven't let me down since. I've gone for regular oil changes, and more 'substantial' repairs over the years, and the crew is forever friendly, knowledgeable, and up-front. Just recently, I brought my car in for some quirky thing: brake lights were staying on constantly, and I was closest to TWO Pep Boys (AND another indy shop which "specializes" in Mitsubishi)--each told me it would be a 2-3 hour wait, plus a $75-$100 'diagnostic' fee. I decided to drive a little bit out of my way, to Hiro's for a 4th opinion. I briefly explained the situation, and mid-sentence the guy behind the counter grabbed a $0.50 piece from the back, was under the pedals within seconds, and I was driving off in minutes. He wouldn't accept a tip or payment of any kind (hardly even a compliment, really), and was already helping the next customer before I caught his name. I certainly can't guarantee that kind of treatment each and every time, but THAT is exactly the kind of integrity and workmanship upon which Hiro's has built their reputation. Hiro was my hero! I couldn't start my car. I called the Auto Club to get a tow. While waiting for the tow truck, I popped open the hood and saw that the battery terminal connections were corroded and had broken off the battery post. The Auto club recommended to me a local mechanic, but, I later found out that the local mechanic was busy and could not fix my car until next week. I made a couple of phone calls to get a estimate of the price to fix it. I heard all kinds of funny answers, but, the cost to repair averaged to about $100. The tow truck driver arrived and gave me a low ball price to fix it, and mentioned that he could also sell me a new battery. Since he seemed sneaky, I declined. I asked him for a tow. Instead, he started my car. The tow truck driver told me that he would follow me to Hiro's, but, got lost along the way when he turned into the mall. I fortunately made it to Hiro's. They remembered that I called. They told me that it would take 2 hours. I told them that if I needed a new battery, that they should call me. They did everything as instructed, fixed the connection, called and told me that I needed a new battery, and fixed my car in less than 2 hours. When it was time to write me up, they saw that I had been there before. They were honest in my time of need. They didn't try to upsell me or do anything extra. For that I am grateful. 4.5 stars...rounding it up to 5 stars. read more

Two weeks ago I came in with several parts that needed to be replaced on my Toyota Prius. There are not many shops that dare to repair Toyota Prius' so I was thankful for this recommendation from my friend and a former co worker. I was told by my friends that its owned by former Toyota Racing mechanics. A few days before I took the car to the dealer who said I needed the battery, pump, and engine belt replaced. Comparing the parts and labor quoted by both Cerritos Power Toyota Service Dept and Hiro's Auto Repair I saved approx $300 dollars. Hiro's Auto Repair does not allow you to purchase the parts for them to install, but again comparing the quote from Power Toyota I was very happy. I called Hiro's after I got the estimate from the service department on monday and immediately called Hiro's and they broke down what each repair would cost and I made an appointment for the following wednesday. The repair took the entire day, but I was satisfied with their polite manner and service. I trust them as auto mechanics go and would highly recommend them. I don't think I could bring myself to give ANY auto repair shop 5 stars considering the treatment I've received in the past. But again I have to say I don't want to take my car anyplace else for repairs from now on. read more

I have a 1990 Diahatsu Rocky 4x4 (2nd owner since 1995), so I've put on well over 150K miles on this vehicle. I've had limited success in the past couple of years, even finding any repair shops that would service my little Rocky. Being that they discontinued importing the Diahatsu from Japan back in 1992, the parts have become very hard to find. Enter Hiro's . They are my Hero !!! A year ago I had a breaking system issue with my Rocky, and had almost given up hope of getting it fixed. Hiro's was able to make the needed repairs, and has been working great ever since then. My 2nd trip to Hiro's was just last week. The turning-indicator lights on the passenger side started going literally hay-wire. Hiro's was able to find the faulty wiring, and fixed it ...plus an oil change, all for less than $150. read more

After trying several other car repair shops recommended in Yelp (because they were a little cheaper), I finally tried Hiro's, and have found them to be the best for my Lexus, Scion and Toyota cars. I have always been very happy with their work, and expect to continue bringing my cars here for many years to come. I have used them for shocks/struts, radiator replacement, brakes, routine maintenance, belt noises, water pumps, etc. One downside: Hiro's is so popular, that you almost always need to call in advance and make an appointment. I stopped by to get my cam gears removed from the cam shafts since I did not have any power tools and Hiro got it done in less than 30 seconds and was generous enough not to charge me anything! He was genuinely interested in what car they came off of and seemed very knowledgeable about import cars in general. Him and his employee were in the middle of doing a valve adjustment on a Lexus ES & changing axles on a Toyota 4 runner. A friend of mine recommended Hiro's to me. Previously, I used to take my car to the dealership for service & maintenance & always felt like i got ripped off. I've had gotten a quote at a different place that was a lot more,basically where they were saying I needed this & that done. I don't know anything about cars,but decided to ask my friend who's into racing cars if he knew where to go. So off to Hiro's I went. Yes there were stuff that needed to be done,but not to the extent that the place where i took my car first had stated. I feel that they are honest,do a great job.It might not be the cheapest place around. I'm willing to pay for quality work & not feeling like I'm being ripped off simply because I'm a female who knows nothing about cars.
