Usually good food however on this visit we stood in the lobby for over 10 mins while two different servers walked by us at least three times apiece and no one could be bothered to acknowledge us much less seat us. For the past 2 years this has been our favorite Japanese resturant. Tonight we went with family for dinner and the entire experience was horrible. We waited 30 minutes to be sat and then another 30 before they started cooking because they had one cook and one waitress. All of our meat was undercooked including a piece of chicken that was completely pink in the middle. The biggest reason I will never return though is a ROACH crawled across the table in front of me. This was the worst experience we have ever had at a hibachi grill restaurant. Terrible from start to finish. When I provided feedback to the manager, she nodded and walked away. My mother and I didn't even eat our meals. Please, if you are going to spend that much on a meal, go somewhere you can actually eat and enjoy yourself without worrying about bad taste or food safety risks. Also, the bathrooms were disgusting. My husband and I had a bad experience with wait time once....but since then they've done a better job. They now serve beer which made him happy. The hibachi grill chefs do a great job of catering to children and making it fun. We enjoy family night there more than date night although date night can be fun at the sushi bar. Came here last night for a family dinner as most of our family hasn't been to a restaurant like this before. Everyone enjoyed the grill chef (not sure what their title is) and he kept us engaged and entertained. The waiter service was a little disappointing as we finally had to request drink refills as he was walking by. He did come back after that instance though and check in on us. No plates were ever removed from the area, which I thought was odd. The actual food was a little bland I thought. Yes, the presentation was good, but I just felt it had no real taste unless I poured my entire ginger sauce on it. I guess that slightly pathetic is what I should expect of a Japanese place in Avon, but still I was disappointed. I'm not saying "its not like Chicago", I'm just saying, its not quality food. I respect that they actually serve dishes and not just sushi like some "Japanese" places, but what they did serve was mediocre at best. The chicken in my dish was overcooked, and the tempura was greasy. The seaweed salad was good, but the portion was disappointingly small, and the california rolls that came with my meal tasted old (like they'd been sitting in the refrigerator all day). I've been to Hirosake with friends on numerous occasions: both for hibachi and sushi. The staff is friendly and the food is delicious. With that said, there have been a few times when the waitress has been a bit slow or doesn't visit the table as often as some customers (including myself) would like. For the most part they do a good job, but if they mess up your order or if you need something, you may be waiting a while to get a hold of someone to fix the issue. read more

I've sat at alot of teppenyaki tables and these are among the best. Also for lunch they have very good specials. I had the terriyaki chicken and it was perfectly balanced (not over sauced). The Koi pond is also great to linger at on the way out. read more

Hirosaki is a pretty good Hibachi restaurant. I see many complained about the service but our waitress was very good and kept up with our drinks and bringing our courses on time. Chef was entertaining and food was very good. Only have one very small complaint; the "Hot Green Tea" was a Bigalow tea bag in a pretty nice tea pot not a "real" Japanese tea. read more

Well, i cant tell you anything about the food because I left before i could order food. All i can tell you is we left after 15 minutes because no one even took our drink order or came by to let us know they were our server. It was really dirty (menus were dirty with food on them) and the place was pretty empty on a friday night-- never a good sign. I'll be shocked if this place is still around in a year. It used to be good but it has been going down hill. For my birthday we brought the whole family to enjoy however it started with Dirty dishes, condiment holders were dirty - not been cleaned in awhile A, Cockroach came across the table as we sat there!!!. The manager was of no use- (English is not good) - came over and took a napkin to kill the cockroach we had trapped under the pepper shaker. Than did not come back to clean the table!!! We had to ask for sanitizer to clean our own table. When should have left than, but we did not. The first cook that came out said he did not know how to cook,he only cooked in the back, but they were short staff. He left and later another cook came out - who was good. When the bills came for our large group, we sent them to the manager to take care of due to the substandard experience. She only took off 10% - needless to say we are calling the health dept to get this place back to the restaurant it once was. They need to fire the manager, hire and train wait staff to clean and be attentive. read more

Absolutely horrible! We waited all day to take our 15 year old to this restaurant to celebrate his birthday. My husband was skipped with his soup, I had to chase the server down. Refill cocktails were not offered. We had to clear our own table and ask the cook for another beer. We just adopted a new child and it was her first time, the cook did not do anything special. No flare, flame, etc for our sons birthday The consume was extremely watered down. They skipped my husband again on sauces, making me chase down the server again. I complained to the manager and she gave me a gift card for a future visit. For someone who just spent 135.00, and dissapointed not only the birthday boy, which as a mom dissappinted me but our new adopted child. We tried using the gift card because we knew we would never return, the owner would not let us use it. So we passed it off to another patron. We decided to check out this nice looking Japanese style restaurant however it was a regrettable decision my wife ordered th chirashi sushi and I ordered the Sushi deluxe dinner. When the order arrived my wife got her chirashi and I got sashimi deluxe the waitress said oh, you ordered sushi deluxe I brought you a bowl of rice to make up for it, (if you know sushi and sashimi a bowl of rice doesn't make up for it) she didn't offer to replace it or offer a discount or even apologise the fish was almost spoiled and the mackerel which was pickled was almost inedible. When the check came I was charged for the sashimi deluxe which cost 5 dollars more than what I had ordered I complained and she told me that she had paid for the difference and that I had gotten more food than I needed! Needless to say I will not be back. Her tip was commensurate with her service and attitude unfortunately I can't give a negative stars review or I would. They need to train their staff and have either a uniform or insist on nicer clothing for the wait staff, they look like they just walked in off the street even the manager wasn't dressed all that nicely in everyday stretch jeans and a plain top. read more

We had dinner at Hirosaki on Christmas since we were celebrating with our families on other days. The restaurant was very busy, but we were seated quickly. Our server, Rachel, had tables from one end of the restaurant to the other. Nevertheless, we received our drinks and food in great time as she went swiftly around the restaurant. The food was excellent and Rachel was great at keeping drinks filled in a timely fashion. We eat here often on half price sushi nights and will definitely continue doing so. read more

Let's start off with the waitresses, I don't even know why they were there. She didn't know what a single thing on the menu was when I asked and the funnier thing was when she went to ask another waitress, she didn't know either and then they went to ask a third one and finally figured it out. Good food but terrible service. I had the soft shell crab as an appetizer and the sushi dinner as my entree. The soft shell crab was good but barely soft-shell....the shell was a little thick and almost inedible in some places. It was a hard-shelled soft-shelled crab. It could've been a bad one that was past the soft shell point and thy wouldn't be completely there fault. That said the batter wasn't too heavy and was pretty tasty. The sushi dinner was quite good. I was a little hesitant because Indy isn't exactly known as the sushi Capitol of the world but the quality of the fish was good...especially the eel. I'd probably give the food a 4 star rating. On the flip side, the service was a lousy 1 star disappointment. My entree came about 20 minutes after I had finished my miso soup which is astounding because the place wasn't packed and I'm slow eater. Oh my gosh this restaurant had changed so much with new owners. First they did away with sesame dressing for salads and now they have done away with salads totally. Also the soap is now just like water with a few little noodles in it and one piece of mushroom. Awful!!!!! Ordered a shrimp appetizer that is $8.95. Had three shrimp and 2 pcs of zucchini and 2 pcs of onion for $8.95. They should be ashamed of themselves. Such a ripoff Vegetables are not cooked all the way. Onions are hard. I used to praise Tegry Bistro but their service has gone down the tubes. They do have a great sushi selection, though. I've been patronizing Hirosaki since they opened and watched them get better and better. I started with lunch pick up but about four months ago I took a group for a dinner of sushi. Let me start it off with a positive review. The Koi pond was a very nice touch and it seemed like a nice place at first. Now bad, it was extremely dirty. We walk in and my wife has to switch her chair because it was covered in food. All of the dishes were dirty and I watched them clean a table. All they did was push all the food off the table and onto the floor, which made me question the whole place in general.The service was a tad slow, but overall good.
