Hitchhiker Mount Lebanon is so quaint that you must know before you go in case you're not a fan of people or small spaces. The food selection is snack like but Luma is next door (and since it's winter not sure if thy do food trucks or byof). That said they had some sours, IPAs and stouts on the menu. A pretty good selection for winter. The bartenders were friendly and talked to my friend and I on and off while we sat there. I will start by saying that they make more styles that I don't like than I do like. I used to really like a lot of their sours, but I can't drink them anymore because I'm old and now get heartburn. They continue to make some good sours in the city. Their IPA's are hit or miss. I am a big fan of the DDH Double Bane of Existence and the Triple Bane. I've been here a bunch of times but never reviewed them. My son who is in 20's loves a lot of their sour beers and their IPA's. Today I'm drinking a Triple Bane while he has a flight of a peanut butter and jelly sour, a creamsicle sour and the Triple Bane. We both also like the Mimosa sour they make, Bottle Service. The venue is big and industrial, located in the brewery building of the old Fort Pitt Brewing of years gone by in Pittsburgh. Parking is all street parking, huge lot beside the building but someone else owns the lots and will tow you. Thankfully street parking isn't hard here: no food service but always a food truck. read more

There are often food vendors visiting, and the bar does offer some small snacks now. The indoor space is fairly tiny and often crowded, especially with the bar line. Hitchhiker consistently makes amazing craft beers! If you're at all into beer, I promise you will love this brewery. Especially if you like sours - they have some of the best I've ever had. In my opinion, their mimosa sour is one of the Pittsburgh brewing scene's most iconic beers! It's a cool spot too - it's smaller but I like the intimate vibe. Just be aware it does get very crowded during the weekends so you may need to wait a little for a seat (though standing around with a great beer in hand isn't the worst problem to have in the world) I especially like visiting during the summer when they have somebody outside grilling up food! read more

We find ourselves at Hitchhiker pretty frequently. I love that they change the beer menu up, so there's usually something new and different to try. I'm a big fan of sour beers and my fiancé loves IPAs, and we each can always find something we like. During happy hour, draft beers are $1 off, and it's usually not very busy a.k.a. you'll have no problem getting a seat. However, on weekends, the place is usually pretty crowded, so many times you have to stand. Not a huge deal but wouldn't definitely love if they had a larger place with more seating. In addition to the small interior, there are also picnic tables outside that are dog friendly and more tables on the back deck, so plenty of seating options when it's nice out and not so many once it gets cold again. The bartenders are very knowledgeable and friendly and seem to genuinely enjoy working there. My favorite part of Hitchhiker (other than the delicious beer, of course) is their board games and card games! They have plenty to choose from, and it gives you something fun to do when drinking beers with your friends. read more

First time in and we really enjoyed the beer! The inside is a smaller room with a big bar. It's cozy with good character. Flights are 3 8oz pours. To start I got a red IPA, fruited sour, and milkshake IPA. All 3 were great. Really nice fruit flavors in the fruited sour and milkshake IPA. After that I ordered a pour of another fruited sour, Cran-Bottle Service, which was excellent. Very tasty. Food-wise there are a few snack options available. We'll be back! read more

Great atmosphere in a nice little neighborhood! One of the best places to stop for an excellent local craft beer. The staff is friendly and it's a comfortable place to relax and have a drink! So this is the original location and we normally go to the Sharpsburg one but my friend literally lives a three minute walk from here so we hit it up now and again. They are busy, always busy and always packed. It's super small compared to Sharpsburg so it fills up fast. I've kind of slacked with reviews lately but figured I better post one because these guys are getting some negative feedback from someone in their neighborhood complaining about noise, parking, etc almost as though they want it to be a nuisance bar to get rid of. I'm here to tell you from personal experience whoever is complaining is full of shit. Seriously. The noise is never that bad and they close early anyway. My friend lives close enough that we'd hear any disturbances from her place. Never have. Not once. And I'm always at her house. They are so freaking nice and professional at this location and do a good job of respecting the neighborhood and making sure it doesn't get rowdy. This is a place where people bring their kids and pets. They've been open quite some time and all of a sudden now someone has an issue? It's awful. Anyway this place is amazing, the employees are incredible and the pours are some of my favorite beers in the area! Keep doing what you do, gang! read more

This is a perfect neighborhood brewery, tucked into a building with a ton of character inside & out. We enjoyed very good Berliner Weisse and Oatmeal Stout, which speaks to the range on offer. Just like the many breweries in our home state of Colorado, this place was very kid- and dog-friendly. We visited HBC at their Grand Opening for the Sharpsburg location. My hubby had an IPA; and, I had a saison. We were both impressed with the quality of the brews and the uniqueness of their individual nuances. The interior of the building is plain but pays homage to old Pittsburgh, as original architectural elements are preserved. I also loved that there are low-tops, high-tops, the main bar, a side bar, and an area open to the outside. It's a very friendly, welcoming place. I highly recommend checking out HBC! How lucky we are to see places like this move into locations like Sharpsburg. It is my hope that it will help to revitalize the area. At the very least, it's on our shortlist for date night! read more

We just love hitchhiker brewing! I remember the first time we went to hitchhiker Sharpsburg location about three years ago and none of the beers we're appealing to us and the only thing we left with was a leona's ice cream sandwich. I decided to give them another try after my brother-in-law was visiting from California wanted to check it out. We went anywhere pleasantly surprised with a few great sours and their line of hole punch IPAs which include fruit sugar and milk in the brewing process. We have now been back at least six times in the past two months. The service is usually pretty great, there is one individual that slightly pretentious but I can get over that. Another plus is that they can hold a tab open on an iPad without holding your card which makes things convenient. They also offer a nice selection of appetizers everything from cheese and charcuterie to Hummus or homemade soft pretzels. On the weekends the Mount Lebanon location has food trucks from what I understand their Sharpsburg location has food trucks every day that they're open. We will continue going to hitchhiker and applaud them for their excellent variety of beers! read more

Smoked Wheat Beer. Seriously. I don't get it. It's delicious, but it's definitely not what I thought I'd like. I don't really like wheat beer. I like darker beer. But this wheat beer was so good and so different with the smoked flavor! Apparently it was 50/50. The bartender said some people loved it, some people hated it. I loved it! I did a three beer sampling. I also sampled the brown ale and my cousin eddie (made with yams, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice). I thought my fave would be the darker brews, but it was the smoked wheat! They've apparently added more to the food menu, so now they offer chili and pulled pork sandwiches. Totally substantial drinking food! I'm excited to see what other brews they come up with, and glad this is around my hood! When I walk into a small intimate craft brewery like Hitchhiker, I have expectations of a very personal & enthusiastic presentation of beers that people are passionate about producing and sharing with other beer lovers. That didn't happen here. Although the person drawing my beer seemed nice enough, beer wasn't even mentioned and honestly there was minimal conversation despite only a handful of patrons on a Saturday afternoon. The Barbarian IPA was tasty but I have no idea what else they might be brewing that I might enjoy or find interesting. A couple of tastes offered up based on conversation would have been very welcomed. We tried a slice of local beef jerky that was well seasoned but so shoe leathery tough that I'd need a canine's teeth to gnaw through it. All in all, I'm not rushing back. read more

My personal go-to's are the Sickle & Plow or the Trial by Fire, both are the brewery's saison offerings. Unfortunately, indoor seating space is limited and can get rather crowded on busy nights, which only adds to the noisy atmosphere. During the warmer months you'll find me at a table outside. The outdoor seating areas (yes, multiple sections) accommodate a larger number of patrons and spreads out among the front, side, and back of the building. This IS as good as it gets, and good is phenomenal. The brew master has created a strong line up of fresh, high quality beers for every taste. I expect awards to be hanging on the walls in the near future. The space is amazingly located at a charming intersection near light rail access, and there is a bike rack for those inclined to cycle for a pint. The menu is small plates. Everything was locally sourced and finessed. I probably would not come here for dinner, but I would not leave hungry. I have seen similar menus in neighborhood pubs in Portland, Seattle and Toronto. Heck, this is the way to go...anyone been to some of the most raved restaurants in East Liberty + Lawenceville? Actually, this place feels more like something in those cities/hoods than an affluent first ring town out side of Pittsburgh. Mt. Lebanon is a great town on its own with a blistering hot restaurant scene, walkable streets and really awesome architecture. Mt. Lebanon gets wrongly lumped with more suburban locals like Upper St. Clair and that is not fair. This town has far more in common w/ Sq. Hill than sprawling gross McMansion-lands... Anyway, the crowd was a great mix of locals and folks from all compass points checking out this boutique pub. The pub has a sophisticated urban/rustic chic thing going with ample outdoor seating, nice little gardens and an indoors that make one focus on the beer/conversation. FEW TELEVISIONS = AWESOME! What makes Hitchhiker so great other than location, vibe and cool name is THE BEER. It is on level with Roundabout which is my other favorite Pittsburgh brewery. I will be picking up many Hitchhikers and will have NO FEAR! Well done. read more

I was a little surprised at how small this place is - guess I was expecting something a little bigger inside. There were only a few other people in there on a sunny Saturday afternoon and I think if 3-4 more people had walked in it would have felt cramped. But hey, their space is what they have to work with and I'm not complaining. I can imagine that in the summer time when they have the outdoor space available out back it changes everything! But I was there for the beer. And yes, I had some. And I liked it! The Barbarian IPA was a favorite of mine - I'm always drawn to the IPA's and this one was quite good. Also on tap were 3 stouts, a sour, a black ale, a blonde, and even a cider. Something for everyone! We saw signs for home made beef jerky and beer nuts and thought, hey, let's get some jerky. We did. It was one "strip" of jerky and even though it was flavorful, it was so tough to bite that even our granddogs (bulldogs) would have had a heck of a time getting through it. But that's neither here nor there and really isn't important. The beer is what matters and on that ground they are on firm footing. It's an A-OK place indeed! read more

Such a great environment at Hitchhiker! The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that I wish there was more seating and a bit more on the food menu (only because I selfishly want to be able to spend hours at a time there.) The beer selection has increased and improved since it opened and there really is something for everyone. The inside is definitely tight, but the outdoor patio adds a decent amount of space with nice weather. We went last night and one of the most surprising things was how family friendly it is for being a brew house (something that Pittsburgh breweries have definitely embraced, which is so awesome being a new parent). Again, the beer selection is great. I recently had the Trial by Fire which is a perfect summer Saison. My husband had the Conversion, which was a lighter American Blonde that we ended up taking a growler home of. I've also had the Shadow Walker and the Barbarian - both solid beers that are great to sip and enjoy after a long day. All in all, a great place that we love to go to. Don't go with the intention of eating a meal, but as long as you're just looking for a good selection of beers, a fantastic environment and great service - this is your place! read more

Hitchhiker describes itself as a small batch brewery and it's rotating beer list is testament to that. They offer samplers, pints and growlers of their beers. There's always an impressive list of available beers (as well as their own delicious root beer) to hopefully please any palette. I haven't been disappointed by Hitchhiker's brews, my current favorite being Tumbleweed Oatmeal Brown. I've sadly missed a few beers that intrigued me over the holidays so I try to stay updated via social media (which I recommend any beer lover do with all local breweries) to watch for upcoming brews, events and local entertainment. They have a few small bites and snacks but I've only tried the jerky. Food trucks are often there for other options, but I think that's mostly on the weekends. For any adventurous souls, stop by on Real Ale Wednesdays when Hitchhiker offers up a cask version of one of their brews (with a twist). My first encounter was the Tumbleweed Oatmeal Brown with Chocolate and Peanut Butter. The staff is always friendly and eager to help you navigate your way through their current offerings. I was told when inquiring about the weekly casks that sometimes they run out after a couple hours, sometimes it will last through the weekend. So if something catches your eye, don't wait. Why take away a star you ask? Well, the main reason is the chairs. Those high school shop class chairs are not conducive to an extended stay drinking the bar. The taproom can also be a bit noisy when they have entertainment because the space itself is not very big. But I've heard about some outdoor (hopefully more comfortable) seating and can't wait for the weather to warm up so I can check it out and add another star. read more
