So many options to choose from! I was at the food court and on my way out I spotted this boba place and ShareTea. I've been to a fair share of ShareTeas on the mainland so decided to give this place a try since I've never heard of it before. They offer so many drinks, can come off as quite alarming since I didn't know what I wanted. I think I read through the menu three times and finally came to a conclusion to order the Mango Jasmine Tea. I believe I also got lychee jelly. My initial thought was that I didn't get enough mango flavoring and that I got too much lychee jelly. But after I walked around the mall and my drink had time to melt and settle the flavor was actually pretty good. There are always people waiting here so I felt it was time for me to finally give HiTEA Cafe a try. They have a great selection of teas and smoothies, as well as lunch items. However today I only had time to grab something to drink. I ordered a mango jasmine tea with lilikoi jelly. The jelly was star shaped and easy to go through the straw. I was jonesing for bitter melon, so I got it with beef and white jasmine rice. We also tried the fried rice with chicken. I liked the thinly sliced bitter melin and thinly sliced beef. Had this place bookmarked for a while for their food (not for the drinks) and finally remembered to try it out. Most everyone is here for their boba drinks -- the menu is long and varied for bubble tea. As for me, I was here for the food, specifically, the house pork chops: item C21. The description of the dish is super vague. It's actually a version of what I know as "capital pork chops," sort of a slightly more ketchupy sweet & sour pork. The chops are cut into random thirds, served bone-in with two scoops of white rice. Devoid of vegetables, it's probably meant to be eaten family style with other dishes. I definitely wished that I'd ordered other items to go with my plate of tasty meats and carbs. The food is more like what you'd get at a mom and pop and I do think it's great to be able to get this kind of food at Ala Moana. First of all I absolutely LOVE Garden Lanai food court in Ala Moana SC, yes I'm on crutches with a broken ankle super difficult to walk. They have 20min Togo parking right outside, automatic doors and a clean convenient bathrooms...yup! Not sure if HiTEA is a Chinese restaurant or smoothies bar because their menu is quite incredible. Ordering is easy once you have decided and service is incredibly fast, tonight was Beef broccoli with crispy noodles and I requested the topping be on the side if not it would all spill out hobbling on crutches. Omg gonna slap me because I failed to take a picture of their beautifully packed order they did their absolute best to accommodate my situation and it came home perfect. Ever since the Chinese restaurant by my house closed down due to covid, I lost my go to place for beef with bittermelon. I wasn't able to get my fix until I saw they started serving it here. I usually come here to get my smoothies and occasionally my seafood crispy noodle. This time, I got both just for me (they thought it was for two people and gave me extra utensils too)! Who would have thought I would be able to find authentic, tasty and large portions of my favorite Chinese foods at ala Moana! Seafood crispy noodle- a lot of reviews mentioned it was bland and could use more flavor, but honestly, that's how it's supposed to be. This isn't an overpowing flavorful dish. It's a nice light dish on top of crispy noodles. I thought the flavor was just right. I wanted to be able to taste the fresh veggies and seafood and the crunch of my noodles. There was a lot of seafood and veggies too! Fair warning- the first time I got this, I was so excited to eat, I burnt my tongue. But it was worth it because I came back a couple more times for this. Beef with bittermelon- cooked exactly like what I wanted. The bittrnress of the melon pairs well with the soft and juicy beef. The black bean suace didn't mask the flavors. I know some places try to tone down the bitter by adding more sauce or salt, but this dish was perfect. I really liked the portion too. It was like having my own full dish of beef and bitter melon with a side of rice at Chinese restaurants. Writing this has me craving for it again.... Smoothies- tasty and fresh! I didn't get a smoothie this time since I was starving, but I would always get a smoothie whenever I'm in the area. My go-to is the mango smoothie with lychee jelly. It doesn't taste artificial at all and doesn't have extra artificial sweeteners that make it taste fake. I love being able to grab a smoothie from here and knowing they use real fruits and not powders (I believe there is a few smoothies made from powder, but they have it marked on the menu). If I'm not grabbing my usual, I'm getting the watermelon smoothie (no jelly no boba, just plain watermelon). It's refreshing in this Hawaii heat and tastes like pure watermelon. HiTea is located inside of the Lanai at Ala Moana where the old shirokiya used to be. With ample parking and shopping, it's a step up from fighting for street parking at Chinatown. The prices are a tiny bit more expensive than Chinatown, but the convenience of not having to circle around for an hour for street parking or paying outrageous parking prices, makes it worth it to come here. Although there is usually a pack of people standing in front of the counter, I simply ask if they have ordered yet and they're usually just waiting to pick up their order. Staff is always friendly and attentive when I'm ready to place my order and it comes out pretty quickly. They give you a number after you pay and call the number out when your order is ready so there's no confusion of whose order is whose. read more

Came here to get a couple cold drinks to enjoy on a warm afternoon. Lots of flavor choices (smoothies, milk teas and teas) and topping choices (extra tapioca, flavored jellies, azuki beans). We opted for smoothies: strawberry, orange and mocha coffee smoothies. Pretty safe choices. Freshly made. Fast. Delicious. What caught my attention the most, however, were the sealed covers on the drinks! As a parent, spilled drinks are a huge nuisance. These drinks didn't have typical plastic lids - which can pop off. Instead, they had a foil seal/cover that you pierced with your straw. Genius! Would definitely come back to try a few of the other drink flavors. Smoothies are $5.25. Teas are $4.25. Quality food, reasonable prices with quick friendly service. The style of Chinese food here is milder in flavor and and lighter in oil. They do sauces very well. Whether it's the Tofu with eggplant, Shrimp with vegetables or Shrimp with tomato sauce, you'll find the sauces milder in flavor with a nice balance of sweet and salty. The Shrimp tomato sauce is definitely my fave. Good size shrimp in a sticky tangy sweet tomato sauce that coats the entire shrimp. They could've done a better job deveining the shrimp but that's a 3rd world problem I'm willing to live with. The shell is still on the shrimp so be prepared to lick your fingers often if you don't like shells. As for me, the shells are the hub of flavor town that add texture and a modest degree of danger with every bite. Lighter flavors aside, if you're looking for that heavy dose of carbs and oil, they have the classic Fried Noodles on the menu which we plan to dissect in all of it's fried gloryness. Hidden gem in Lanai food court at AMC in the Macy's wing. HiTEA has become one of my favorite places to grab food during my lunch break. Call in your order and it'll be ready by the time you get there. They must have some serious gas and wok in the back because the food is always piping scald your mouth hot. Their chow fun is very traditional, get it with your choice of beef, chicken, pork or shrimp. Very generous portions. I've also enjoyed their seafood crispy noodle. Man, this place can make some fried noodles! I love their minute chicken crispy noodles with the sauce on the side. Keeps the noodles extra crispy when I can control the amount of sauce. The chicken is flavored well and the sauce is great too. They give a lot of noodles and chicken, so the portion justifies the price. There is a special going on where you get a drink for $2 (normally $4.25) if you purchase a food plate. Finally tried this place at The Lanai Food Court in Ala Moana. Good News & Bad News!! Let's start with the Bad! OMG!! WARNING!! The food(Chinese take-out) is UTTERLY LOADED WITH MSG!! Their most popular dish -- Generous portion, fresh, Great Flavor... but 20min into eating it.... ***Bandabi, StrawBEARy & I were lying about the living room like shriveled listless slugs that just had salt poured on them!! =P We were seriously rendered utterly incapable of doing anything remotely productive.... for over 5 hours!! =(! And I wouldn't say I'm particularly sensitive to MSG.. Have eaten at dozens of Chinese & Vietnamese restaurants who for sure use it in their cooking and felt perfectly fine. So to have this bad of an MSG attack, there had to have been an UNGODLY AMOUNT of MSG in there!! =O What's worse, we even went back the next day to give the food another try. We thought it would be fine if we just requested them to prepare the food with NO MSG. The guy behind the counter said "We don't add any msg in our food." What??! Are you kidding me??! I'm sorry but I find what he said terribly hard to believe!! Anyway, we had no desire to argue with him, and absolutely did not want to risk another msg attack again! That's 5 precious hours of our life we can Never. Get. Back. Ugh!! The Good News! Good Bubble Teas & Fresh Fruit Smoothies! ROSE JASMINE MILK TEA! I LOVE ROSE anything! Got it 25% Sweetness, which was actually still a tad on the sweet side (next time I'll say 10% sweet!), but the flavor was just LOVELY!! You could really taste the Rose & fragrant Jasmine tea....^^!! The BOBA BUBBLES were pretty good but not as chewy & bouncy as many other Bubble Tea places.. Anyway the drink was a dream! WATERMELON SMOOTHIE w/ BLACK GRASS JELLY! Totally refreshing, not too sweet, and SUPER COOL -- they cut up the jelly into rectangle pieces (like the lychee & rainbow jelly they also have)! Every other bubble tea place we've tried, they always put in a couple huge globs of the jelly which you have to break up yourself with the straw. Speaking of straw, please clean/reuse the plastic boba straw or buy reusable metal boba straws online! Every bit of single-use plastics we can avoid discarding into our environment helps!! =) The FRESH FRUIT SMOOTHIES & TEAS/MILK TEAS here are FANTASTIC! I was looking forward to trying this place since I learned that they use real fruits in most of their smoothies/teas. I ordered their eggplant tofu which turned out extremely bland...this may have been because I asked for it non-spicy (and it's listed as spicy), but I really wish they would've taken that into consideration when cooking it. I ordered a plantation iced tea with it since I saw on the menu that certain teas (including the plantation iced tea) would be $4.50 when ordering with an entree (as opposed to the regular price of $5.50) The plantation iced tea was good. My friend (who also agreed that the food was extremely bland) asked how much the food was, so I looked at the receipt and saw they had charged me the regular $5.50 instead of the discounted $4.50. I went to the cashier (cause as Ross Gellar said-"It's about the principle!") and explained to the worker I was overcharged. She pretended to be all confused, acted like she didn't know what I was talking about, then finally took a dollar out of their tip jar and handed it to me without apologizing. The fact that she grabbed money out of the tip jar without checking with someone tells me she's most likely not just an hourly worker but possibly the owner or at least a manager. Between that and her fake acting, I can only conclude that she purposely overcharged me hoping I wouldn't catch it. Terrible business practice. I won't be going back. read more
