I never wrote my update because I forgot, the place never improved. Still the same weird plastic container packaging, the dumplings if ordered fried, barely come fried. It's just kind of a mess. Theres not much else to say. The restaurant is closing next week, don't worry though, the owner has Tanaka Ramen making them a majority of money, so they won't be out on the street. (I personally don't recommend Tanaka Ramen as well, it's poorly made ramen with no authentic technique behind it and severely watered down.) read more

I had a bad feeling when we came it was empty during prime dinner time. After eating here, realized why it was empty - it was the worst Chinese food/dumplings I ever had. We ordered the pork leak bao, cucumber salad, pan fried beef onion dumplings , braised pork belly over rice and zha jiang mian. Pork leak bao 9/10: The only thing we liked was the pork leak bao Cucumber salad 2/10: one of the worst cucumber salad I had in dumpling restaurants Pan fried onion dumplings 5/10: this one looked promising but lacked flavor Braised pork belly over rice 1/10: one of the worst braised pork belly I ever had. The pork was super tough to chew , had to spit it out Zha Jian Mian 3/10: didn't like this one either Service 2/10: Waiter was doing the bare minimum and no energy at all, not a single smile, hi, thank you, or bye. Our fave remains the boiled pork and Napa cabbage dumplings - dip those in some black vinegar and chili crisps and its juicy deliciousness. We always order sides of kimchi and wood ear mushrooms (marinated and with peanuts). The been and onion bao were middle of the road - fluffy steamed bao, and decent flavor, I was glad the beef was more shredded than 'patty', but If probably just stick to more dumplings. We tried the chicken shiitake ones for the first time today. Our party was split on these. Flavor ok, some of the rehydrated mushrooms were still a bit tough. Located on Kapahulu street heading into Waikiki it is located on the left side in a 2 floor complex building with private parking lot. When you get into the restaurant you need to scan a QR code and enter your car information for parking in the lot. The inside seating area is very nicely layout with some large tables for about 6 to 8 and the rest are set for 4 seat. We ordered the shrimp, Pork, Chicken and Chives which was very good, they had 12 pieces per order and it was very tasty. Also we ordered the Pork & Green onion Bao which came with 3 Bao and we didn't care very much for the Bao it was like a patty in a light covering which was not much and the taste was on the bland side. I really struggled with writing this because the staff here is absolutely wonderful, but at the end of the day, the meal itself was a bit underwhelming. Pros: -Parking: Finding a spot in Kapahulu can be a nightmare, but they have a dedicated lot right out front. Since we arrived for an early dinner, parking was a breeze. -Atmosphere: The restaurant was very clean and had a welcoming vibe. -Service: We were greeted immediately and our waitress was incredibly attentive and kind throughout the entire meal. -Speed: Our food came out very quickly, which we appreciated since we were starving after a long workday! Cons: -The Food: While the concept is great, the execution wasn't the best. Every dish we ordered was perfectly edible, but nothing stood out as spectacular or memorable. Overall: It was a pleasant early evening date spot, but the flavors didn't quite live up to the excellent service. I'm not counting them out just yet, though! It's a northern style dumpling restaurant serving mainly dumplings. You have to order through QR code as well. Another way to be efficient and less human service interaction and no customer service. (This is how we are rolling these days too.) But it's not a bad thing because you tend to get your food way faster and don't have to wait for your server and maybe tipping culture will eventually diminish? As for the dumplings, we got chicken with Shiitake mushroom and shrimp, pork boiled dumplings and also Wood ear fungi with light dressing. It came with some roasted peanuts. I ordered pork and napa dumplings (fried) and edamame for pickup. The dumplings were pretty good. Plenty of vegetables, but probably suffered from the 10 minute drive. The edamame seasoning was good, but it was a little undercooked. Online ordering and pickup were easy. I really enjoyed this little spot! My husband and I came by on Mother's Day. We were seated quickly and the two woman working the front were very nice. The fried dumplings were delicious and so was the spicy sour soup. The shredded potato was a cold dish which were weren't expecting but really enjoyed. My husband ate all the braised pork belly but he did give me a bite to try lol. I thought it was on the bland side. Hot and New Restaurant! We ordered and paid for the Pork & Napa cabbage & Green onion dumplings. You can order it steamed or pan fried. There is a reasonable charge of $1.00, to request the dumpling to be pan fried. We ordered it pan fried. It came out quickly and it appeared mostly crispy fried, except for a few pieces. Each order comes with 12 pieces. There is soup in each dumpling. Served very hot so be careful on your first bite. The dumplings are tasty and had a strong chive taste. The ones that were not fried well, tasted a bit undercooked and floury. On the table you have condiments of vinegar, shoyu and chili oil. The vinegar is strong. Go easy on the vinegar unless you really like the strong flavor. Iced water is served upon request. Our observant server refilled the water without having to make any request. There is a unisex bathroom available in the restaurant. The atmosphere is nice. The music is a bit loud for me. There is a peek-a-boo window where you may observe an employee making the dim sum. Price for these dumplings is $13.99 plus tax and tip. Parking is limited here. We parked @2 blocks away. It was a nice walk to the Dumpling Factory. I picked up lunch for my fam today after trying them out last week for a Yelp event. The dumplings were really good, so I wanted to get another variety as well as a different offering. Their website ordering made things very simple as I was going there after donating at the Blood Bank. I just scheduled and paid for my order and drove down. I had anticipated waiting for parking but there was a spot open right as I pulled in, so got there a few minutes early. The entrance to the lot is easy to miss, since it's on the Mauka side of Kapahulu, and you're not supposed to turn left into it if you're driving down towards Waikiki. My order was just finishing up when I walked in so it was perfect timing. I like that they provide both soy sauce and dark vinegar in separate small containers to use. I forgot to grab some chili sauce (again), but I'll be back again next week. I ordered the chicken and mushroom dumplings, pork and cabbage dumplings, and the braised pork dish. They were all really good. The braised pork had a slight anise flavor reminding me of one of my favorite dishes, Kau Yuk. I still wish they would allow for either a "mix and match" order, or have a "Variety pack" type of item available (my only gripe). My daughter and granddaughter both loved the chicken with mushroom dumplings. They really were very flavorful, with or without the sauces. The take out containers have a little cup area in them to put the sauce for dipping; so convenient. It prevents over-saucing and you don't need a separate dish. You can also order them uncooked, in case you want to steam or fry them later yourself, or add them to ramen or saimin that you make at home. Parking is free as long as you frequent one of the businesses there (scan the QR code inside near the register). I tried the beef and onion as well as the shrimp, pork, chicken, and chives. Although not soup dumplings, there is a little bit of juice that trickles out as you bite. I honestly would've preferred the pan fry to be crispier and more consistent amongst all pieces, but it was all still tasty. Service was quick and the staff were attentive. The restaurant itself is nice and very trendy. When you first walk in, if you parked in the small parking lot outside, be sure to scan the QR code at their counter to register your car. A parking attendant actually came inside the restaurant while we were eating and asked every seated table which vehicle was theirs. But it's free parking for 2hrs! Just have to register your license plate online. Their menu's are unique, in a sense they open up like an accordion, no flipping pages like a normal book. You order your food (for dine in) through your phone using a QR code attached to your table. You can also pay through that app or you can go up to the cash register. They have nice background music playing, but not so loud that it overpowers a meal conversation. We went for a weekday lunch around noon and were seated right away. Minutes within placing our order, our food was delivered steaming. I'd say the portion sizes are a bit small for the cost. Definitely better if you're able to go as a group and do family style... If not, you'll be eating 12 of the same dumplings! Haha, which might not be a bad thing for some people! The soda was served in a room temperature can, but with a cup of ice to pour it in. Finally had a chance to check out this new trendy business called Dumpling Factory. Located in a small strip mall which has Honu's Kalbi and sushi and Pai cafe . This Dumpling Factory took over the space of Mango Mango. The dumplings are very good it is very juicy and flavorful. I ordered their Chicken w/ Napa cabbage, vegetarian comes with Zucchini green peppers and eggs, shrimp, chicken and chives also chicken w/shiitake mushrooms . I ordered half steamed and the other half fried . If you want them to fry the dumplings it's $1 more per order . Their order comes in 12pieces on a platter w/ different sauces from vinegar, shoyu and chili oil . Parking can be a challenge although they do share parking with other businesses. I got there @ 4pm to order take out and I guess that's the time there were 3 stalls available. I would definitely be back in the future. The only thing I love more than wrapping dumplings is eating them! After a long day of working and shopping, I was so excited to have dinner at the Dumpling Factory. Although my party and I went around peak dinner time, we were seated right away. The menu and ordering are online, provided by a QR code posted at each of the tables. The system is actually pretty cool--you can order simultaneously as a group and split the bill amongst group members. There are photos, and you can make adjustments in the notes section as needed. After ordering, our food came out fairly quickly, too! (And later, you pay online.) We ordered the edamame, spicy sour soup dumplings with thin noodles, shrimp/pork/chicken/chive dumplings, pork and nappa cabbage dumplings, chicken and shiitake mushroom dumplings, and tofu salad with green onion. The edamame was spicy and seasoned well--I can never resist! As for the dumplings, I can tell these are very fresh and hand-wrapped!! The fillings were generous, juicy, and delicious. My favorite was probably the pork and nappa cabbage. Pairing these with the shoyu/chili oil combination is elite!!! The noodle dish was also a good way to change up the dumpling palette a bit, though I preferred the non-soup dumplings. The tofu was pretty standard but seasoned nicely and very flavorful. Dumpling factory opened up a little while ago in the spot of mango mango on kapahulu. There are other businesses in this complex including pai coffee, honu kalbi, and a udon place. Honestly I was skeptical- a lot of food influencers promoted this place, but the dumplings looked mediocre in every video and photo. I was hoping maybe it just looks not appealing but is really good! Lucky for me a friend went during their soft opening and was a ginuea pig but she said it wasn't that great. There is also a small parking lot in the front with a huge QR code to alert you to pay. I think if you are not dining at any of the businesses it might be $26 an hour. Or if you are then it's free for the first hour I think? You'll just have to scan the code in the business to validate your parking. Trust me. Do not get a ticket from Diamond parking lot. It is $50 per fine. Parking at the time was ok for me. There was one stall that was open and it really depends when people come and go there. I came here during the grand opening bogo promotion (3/5). Their Instagram said dine in or take out, but I saw a review that said take out wasn't honored, so I sent a DM to reconfirm before I go over and they said take out was ok but there was a bit of a wait. I got there at about 445ish, the restaurant itself was not that busy and there was one takeout order before me. The wait was about 25 mins which isn't too bad. You could only get one cooked and the other one would be raw /uncooked. I opted for the pork and cabbage and the chicken and cabbage that was recommended + pan fried which costs an additional $1. There wasn't really anywhere to wait around so I just sat at a table and you can see them make the dumplings through a little hole. Maybe they can add chairs inside or outside for takeout orders. The packaging for takeout was kind of neat, but it was also really oily for the pan fried container. Taste wise was pretty average as well. On opening day where it's advertised that you buy a dish and get one free..the restaurant should be prepared. First the parking lot is very small and tight. Also, don't forget to obtain the QR code to register your car. It was 6pm tonight and we expected it to be crowded. Interior was very small and the air conditioning did not work. It was so hot and stuffy inside that it was just unpleasant being there. We walked up to the hostess and she looked stressed. We asked her how long the wait..she replied that it would be 1 hour. Okay, scratch that. How long for take out..and she said 2 hours. Okay, next idea. Can we just buy uncooked dumplings to cook at home? That wait would be 1 hour as well. Ladies in the kitchen need to make dumplings from scratch. We walked out and I don't think we will return. The stuffy interior smelled like stale cigarettes. The lack of food. Traditional dumpling fare. Tasty and reasonably priced. The dumplings are boiled, however, for $1 more they're pan fried and that makes it significantly better. The best was the egg shrimp chive The beef wrap appetizer was smaller than anticipated and while tasty will not be something I'll get again. The hot and sour soup with boiled dumplings was very comforting and not too spicy. The noodles were thin and traditional tasting. Their braised beef with quail eggs was very tasty and worth the price. It was homey and was very comforting (and not too salty). The service is average as now everything is moving towards ordering on the app. However, the staff was nice and accommodated us when the site wasn't working properly by giving us physical menus. Pro tip: be sure to scan the parking poster. These parking police are crazy - they are hiding somewhere and are fast. In our short time, we saw someone park, get their food and got a ticket. I didn't see who did it, and apparently they were fast enough to place multiple tickets. Dongbei jiaozi! (Northeastern Chinese dumplings). This is a friendly spot that has authentic dumplings made from scratch. The skin is soft and the fillings were tasty! We enjoyed both the pork & cabbage and shrimp & chives. My favorite dish was the spicy noodle soup with pork dumplings. Hints of vinegar, cilantro and numbing spices (mala). We went at an "off" time too. The restaurant is nice and clean. Service is friendly. Menu is simple. Wish the appetizers had descriptions or pictures. Wood ear mushroom salad - mix of wood ear mushroom, carrots, white onions, sesame seeds, sesame oil, salt. I'm sure there's more, but those are the main flavors Cucumber salad - tasty, just as expected, familiar to our tastebuds. Slight spice, hint of Mala numbing or something, lots of garlic (wish they were pickled), shoyu. Braised beef wrap - green onion pancake wrapped braised beef. Tasty but wish they added cucumbers, mayo, and plum sauce. Very nicely cooked beef. Also wish they sold the pancake separately too. The dumplings were decent sized. I was surprised that 2 of us were able to eat so many dumplings! I thought the home made wrappers were much better pan fried than boiled. It didn't have the chew it needed for a boiled wrapper. But my Chinese mom enjoyed the boiled more. We tried the shrimp/pork/chicken/chive and the pork/napa/onion dumplings. The pork/napa is the one we're familiar with and it was yummy. read more

I heard about this restaurant through Yelp Perks, but did not get in. I couldn't resist, so I decided to come anyway. I google mapped it ahead of time and was nervous about the parking, but we came at lunchtime and there was ample parking! You just have to make sure you register your license plate with the QR code at the front. The restaurant itself is very clean and sleek looking. I was kind of surprised it wasn't crowded at all. We were the first ones for lunch and a couple tables filled up after us. Their menu is short and simple, but it keeps them from being spread thin, and what they do, they do well! It was just my friend and I and she was skeptical if we could finish two orders of a dozen dumplings (24 total). I was confident so we ordered one order of shrimp, pork chicken and chives and one order of beef and green pepper. We got one pan fried and one boiled. It was so delicious and we were definitely able to finish it. The service was decent and the bathrooms were clean. I bookmarked this cafe after reading several reviews from Yelp Friends about the newly opened Dumpling Factory in Kapahulu's Wong Leong Plaza in early March. We recognized its location as the former Mango Mango Dessert Shop. We discovered this cafe is owned by the same person who owns the dessert shop and the Tanaka Ramen & Izakaya restaurant chain. Since we've enjoyed the flavors and food quality at Tanaka Ramen & Izakaya and Mango Mango in the Ala Moana Center, we looked forward to eating authentic Chinese Northern-style dumplings and side dishes, as the owner hails from Northeastern China. From the posted photos, I gathered that the dumplings were truly Northern Chinese style from their typical crescent or ear-like shape called "shui jiao 水饺" or boiled in water dumplings and its close pan-fried relative known as "guo tie 锅贴" or potstickers. The wrappers of Northern Chinese, also known as "Dongbei dumplings," tend to be thicker, chewier, and hearty instead of delicate or thin than those of Southern Chinese dim sum because, in the North, they primarily use wheat flour and develop gluten. However, the seasonings and types of fillings of Northern Chinese dumplings usually feature ground meat (pork, lamb, or beef) and various vegetables such as cabbage, Chinese garlic chives or jiǔ cài 韭菜, scallions, carrots, leeks, and mushrooms, and they are seasoned with only garlic, ginger, and soy sauce. Typical condiments are soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil. The Northern Chinese or Dongbei-style flavors and cooking embrace robust and flavorful flavors because of geographical FOOD: -Shrimp/chicken/pork/chives: the boiled Dongbei dumplings were savory, juicy, and soul-warming with their typical thicker and chewier wheat flour-based wrapper. We dipped the dumplings in vinegar, soy sauce, and chili oil to enhance the delectable mild garlic and onion flavor yet slightly pungent flavors of the garlic chives or kutchay. I would advise eating boiled dumplings more immediately than the pan-fried version because the cooled wrappers became chewier and somewhat hardened. Its filling mixture included shrimp, adding a subtle seafood flavor and bouncy chew with each bite. 12/$14.99 -Chicken/shiitake mushroom: These flavorful pan-fried dumplings were tender and juicy when eaten from the kitchen. Their filling was mildly seasoned, and we could taste the earthy and woodsy-tasting shiitake mushrooms. Each dumpling was packed with filling, but we found it a bit dry as they cooled. Still, a small amount of the signature pan-fried crisp, the lacy skirt was at the bottom of the dumplings, while the tops were tender from steaming. 12/$13.99 -Braised housemade pork belly: Got pork belly? We're porkaholics, so whenever we see a dish with pork in it, we will order it. The Northern Chinese braised pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and its soy sauce-based braising liquid was tasty yet milder than its Cantonese counterpart. Still, we liked the quail eggs, which complemented the tender pork belly textures and rich flavors. My husband asked for a bowl of steamed white rice with the pork belly. $12.99 During our visit, there was a single female worker in the dining room who was a "one-man show." She was friendly but not talkative and professional as she took telephone orders for takeout and dine-in customers, cleared tables, served the food, and did cashier duties. She managed to keep everyone's glasses of water refilled without asking and brought the food out at perfect serving temperatures from the kitchen. Everything was delicious! We got seated right away and it was midday (highly recommend because your food will come out quick)!! You order through the QR code and you're able to add more if you're not full, but I will say, everything we ordered was so filling!
