Limón is one of my favorites, and I've been to a couple of their other locations over the years. The Burlingame location is right on the main street, with plenty of seating both inside and outside. The staff are always friendly and attentive. We ordered a variety of dishes to share, with the half chicken as our main course. It comes with two sides, and this time we went with double salad, but the fries and plantains are also great options. The ceviche had wonderful flavor with fresh toppings and delicious house-made plantain chips. The green beans were cooked perfectly, still crisp and topped with garlic and ginger that added great flavor. I've tried all of the empanadas, but this time I went with the veggie truffle mushroom, and it was delicious. The dipping sauce that comes with both the empanadas and the chicken is so yummy! My absolute favorite dish is the truffle mac and cheese. It's rich, creamy, and incredibly flavorful without feeling too heavy. The truffle is perfectly balanced and makes it one of the best! Limón continues to be one of my go-to spots because the food is consistently fresh and flavorful! read more

I generally like Limon but we ordered takeout last night (6/4 evening) and I was extremely disappointed by how dry the thigh meat was in my Saltado de Pollo. Either that or they inexplicably used breast meat (and still dried it out). Check out the photo, the meat looks mummified. For a $28 (not including tax or tip) dish, what is that? Another issue, the Arroz con Mariscos (rice with shrimp) came with no rice. I am actually pretty blown away by how badly this takeout meal got botched. Didn't get a chance to go inside at all because we didn't want to wait for a seat on a Friday night and just sat outside instead. The flavors of the dish were delicious although the portion just doesn't seem to be worth the cost. When we finished and tried to get the bill, the main hostess completely ignored us and another server looked in every direction but at us despite my boyfriend having his arm up to try to get their attention. I like most of what we ordered- octopus dish was tasty and tender, crispy pork came with a very palatable fried rice, paella had generous protein, beed rib looks dry but it was not, ceviche was refreshing and acted like a palate cleaner. Had a great lunch yesterday. We were welcomed right when we arrived and seated near the large window looking out to the street. Our server was very friendly and service was excellent. Limon has generally been a decent experience for me, though I've often felt the pricing doesn't quite match the quality of the food. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was especially disappointing. I ordered the Lomo Saltado for takeout, and even within a few bites before leaving, I noticed I was having to chew a lot more than usual. The texture was both rubbery and dry, and it required far more chewing than expected. After getting home, I set a few pieces aside to take a closer look, and parts of the meat also appeared undercooked. The texture issues were already present before I left the restaurant, even after I gently reheated the dish at home. Overall, the dish fell well below what I would expect. Another issue from this visit was the inconsistency with takeout service. In my recent experiences over the past couple of weeks, utensils are rarely offered unless specifically asked for, and in most cases not mentioned at all during pickup. It feels like an oversight in the pickup process that should be more consistently handled, either by including utensils automatically or at least asking the customer. Considering everything from this experience, it's unlikely I'll be ordering the Lomo Saltado again. read more

The food was like "bouquets" of seafood, the way they plattered it. I've had amazing seafood, but the seafood dishes we had at Limón were extraordinary! The color pops in the food presentation were just as vibrant as the Peruvian culture itself. Some of those dishes were enough for two. The combo appetizer alone could've been a meal. Been here a bunch of times and Limon continues to be a solid option on the corner of Burlingame Ave. Most recently came on a Thursday around 6pm and were seated immediately without a reservation, which was a nice surprise. The space itself is lively but not chaotic, and it's one of those places that works just as well for a casual weeknight dinner as it does for a low-key date. This visit, my husband and I shared the Jalea ($24) to start and ordered the whole chicken ($38). We subbed the house salad for their signature chifa vegetables (worth the extra $2). The Jalea is a classic fried seafood platter - nothing mind-blowing, but you really can't go wrong with it and it's great for sharing. The chicken is where Limon usually shines. It was cooked perfectly, super juicy, and shredded apart easily. That said, I'm personally not a huge fan of their aji amarillo sauce. It's bold and tends to overpower the already well-seasoned chicken. The chifa vegetables are a must-order every time. Savory and easily one of the best sides on the menu. I've also had their ceviche and lomo saltado on past visits, both of which were excellent and among the safer bets here. Service has consistently been attentive and efficient, even when the restaurant is busy. My only real knock is that it's a bit pricey for what you get, especially if you're ordering multiple dishes or drinks. That said, the quality and consistency usually make it worth it. Our party of eight celebrated a friends' engagement here, and despite a rocky start, things worked out in the end. Although we made a reservation, we were seated half an hour late and not initially together. Six of us were at the main table, and two had to wait for the neighboring table to finish before joining. To make up for this inconvenience, they waived the outside dessert fee for our cake and gave the couple a passionfruit margarita on the house. For drinks, the sangria and lycheemelon cocktails were nice and not too sweet. The mixto clasico ceviche and ceviche Limon were delicious! The fish were tender, fresh, and high quality, and the sauces had the right balance of acid. The empanadas were crispy on the outside, not too greasy, and filled with hot, oozy fillings. I fell in love with lomo saltado and ceviche through Limon. The pungent flavors are irresistible. You do have to order a side of taro chips for the ceviche, but that seems to be the norm everywhere else. Although I do feel as though they have been skimping on the steak quantity over the years. I also really enjoy their pork belly chaufa, which is basically pork belly fried rice. A bit unorthodox with the rest of the food selection, but I like their truffle mac and cheese as well. The plates are extremely overpriced, which is understandable for the area, but they are also not shareable as previously mentioned additionally they charged us extra for Taro chips without mentioning this instead they just asked if we would like chips with our ceviche. Also we were celebrating a birthday and when they brought out the nice cake and candles, the cake was charged on our receipt. This place is extremely loud. Every time I come to Limón, the ceviche is a must, you really can't skip it. It has the perfect balance of citrus and keeps you going back for more. It's great with the taro chips, though I personally like it with rice (it reminds me a lot of kinilaw, a Filipino dish). I've been here several times, and the ceviche has never disappointed. The pisco sour is also a must-order, perfectly balanced and made exactly how I like it. On my most recent visit, I tried the pork belly and was a bit disappointed as it was slightly dry, and the sauce was just okay. That said, the service was excellent and very attentive. We were heading to SF and heard a lot of good things about Limon so my wife and I decided to drop by for quick bite for dinner. The parking lot was full so we had to find street parking and were lucky to find one a few blocks away. We were lucky that the wait was not too long since a big party was finishing up but we opted for the bar seating since we weren't planning to stay long and not looking to get a big meal. We started off with some sour drinks. I had these when I was in Costa Rica and they taste very similar but a little more sour. It was very refreshing especially with the egg white. Everyone has been raving about their ceviches and they have a lot of different varieties. We ended up getting the trio sampler and added the mix seafood. My favorite out of the three was the one with the orange sauce. It had a little spicy kick and had a unique flavor. The clasico was my least favorite since it tastes like any other ceviche but it's still good, don't get me wrong. We will definitely skip the trio sample next time and order from the list of ceviches since they have a good variety with different type of sauce. We opted to share the bone-in ribeye and added garlic jumbo prawns. The garlic jumbo prawns were very good. It was not overcooked and was packed with garlic butter flavor which my wife loves. The ribeye was cooked medium rare and was very tender. The steak knife that was offered was not sharp enough to cut through the steak cleanly. The steak was very juicy but some part of the steak was a little salty so next time I would request light on the salt. The sauce that the ribeye came with went well with the steak especially the salty part since it toned down the saltiness. Underneath the steak are potatoes. The potatoes were soft and with the juice of the ribeye dripping on top of it, gave it a really good flavor and made it more tender. Overall, our experience was really good. We really enjoyed the food and the staff were very helpful. When we walked in, the staff assured us that the wait was not long and told us we can sit at the bar if we didn't want to wait 5-10 minutes. The bartenders were also very nice and checked up on us if we needed anything in between our meals and drinks. He spoke to us while we waited for our food to keep the vibe going. Limon has a few locations in the Bay Area and if you like Peruvian food, I highly recommend this place. The price is pretty steep but definitely worth it especially if you do family style instead of ordering individual dishes. This way you can share and try different entrees they offer on your first time there and then know what dish to order individually for your next visit. I recommend avoiding coming on the weekend for dinner due to parking. I believe you can get a reservation so I would definitely do that if you don't want to risk waiting for a table to open up on the weekend for dinner. read more

Limon in the City has been on my to-try list for a while. Recently, my niece had her birthday celebration at this location in Downtown Burlingame. Though not the one in the City, I was excited to try the restaurant at this location. Located at the corner of Burlingame Ave and California Dr., the area was quite busy but we were able to find parking in the meter street parking across the street. We arrived for the 6pm reservations on a Saturday and were seated on a long table by the window. We ordered drinks and I shared in a pitcher of margarita and the diner to my left had the lycheemelon cocktail. While we looked over the menu to select our entrée, the host ordered a starter, the Gran Capitan Seafood platter. The impressive two tiered platter tower had ceviche mixto classico, ceviche de camarones, lobster ceviche, choros a la chalaca, jumbo shrimp, conchitas a la chalaca, leche de tigre shooters and oysters on a half shell. My favorites were the ceviche and oysters. For my entrée, I had the Picante de Mariscos, which consisted of braised jumbo prawns, calamari, mussels, clams, Peruvian scallops in a creamy aji panca rocoto sauce served with a side of white rice. I mixed the rice in so that it absorbed the sauce. This seafood was perfectly cooked and this dish was delicious. Entrees ordered around me included: Pulpo - grilled Spanish octopus Lomo Soltado - a traditional Peruvian favorite Dorado en Salsa de Mariscos - a pan-seared Mahi-Mahi over braised seafood 18oz Bone-in Rib eye Paella - this was an off-menu item Everyone thought their dishes were delicious. The host brought a birthday cake and the restaurant has a cake service. Though the restaurant was crowded and busy, our wait staff was attentive in serving our food, removing used plates and refilling water carafes. But the negative with a busy restaurant was that the noise level was loud as I had to raise my voice during conversations so that I could be heard. I honestly enjoy the food here, the service was great. The place was very busy and lively! I would HIGHLY recommend making a reservation! We ordered a few things that were amazing and a few things thats wasn't as amazing. For appetizers we ordered Brussels Sprout and Truffle Mac and Cheese. The Brussels sprout were good it was lightly seasoned, i would prefer a little more salt but i tend to eat on the saltier side. The Truffle Mac and cheese flavor was delicious however it wasn't baked which made it very runny and milky. I ordered the Pulpo (Octopus) the dish was presented beautifully. The tentacle was placed on top a bed of potatoes. It was delicious and im not even a fan of potatoes. The sauce was delicious! I wished there was more than one piece of tentacle, Ive been to other places where there was at-least two tentacles. The second entree was a Braised Pork over rice. My partner enjoyed the food however the proportions were off. There about four slices of pork belly on top of a huge amount of rice. Maybe a few more pieces of pork would have balanced the dish. The third was 1/4 chicken breast with rice and fries. It's good nothing outstanding or anything that made its particularly stand out. We also got a pitcher of sangria which gave us about four-five cups of drinks between the three of us. My only complaint is there was too much ice and we didn't really taste the alcohol but it was tasty. Not the first time at Limon but it's our first time at this location. They were kind and quick on giving a table to us, and quickly provided high chair for the baby as well. The indoor sitting is a little loud, but still very convenient. We ordered quarter chicken, polli papas, lomo soltado and arroz con marroscos. The food was mostly ok, but arroz con marroscos made me sick, and I don't get sick easily. I would never order it again, at least in this restaurant. The biggest issue was, despite being famous for rotisserie chicken, the chicken arrived VERY VERY late, and my wife was like I don't want it anymore. The restaurant should make sure the food for the table arrives around the same time. One of the dishes on our table was cracked, which they were kind enough to change.
