Quick review for Ho'Brah a Taco Joint in the New Dorp section of Staten Island. My son and I stopped in for a quick bite after a medical procedure where I had to basically fast a day prior. So of course food was necessary and the restaurant was around the corner from the doctor's office. It was roughly 3:00pm when we got there and we were the only customers on a dreary and rainy Tuesday afternoon. We sat in a booth and the bartender doubled as the waiter. I got the classic Ho Brah margarita and my son got a blueberry/lemonade smash. We ordered the guacamole and chips which came out quick. We then got the Birra and Blue Belle Ranch Pork Quesadillas. They were really good. We use to visit their location on Forest Avenue when we lived here ten years ago. The food was always fresh and always good back then and today was no different. There is no lot to park in but I got a spot in the street right in front. You do have to feed the meter but the parking meter is now an app. read more

I've been to both the Brooklyn and Staten Island location and I love both. I might just favor the Staten Island location more as the spacious interior and not needed to wait an hour or more for a table. Food is excellent as always I love most of their options. usually I'd get the chicken fajitas but this time I opted for the fried shrimp taco and the Cali fish tacos which were both decent. I just wished that the fish was crispier and a bit bigger piece wise. Drinks are excellent , not too strong but not weak either. The guacamole is always a must get and they refill your chip basket often once you run out. I will say their soft drinks are on tap so they might taste a bit off. But besides that I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to have good time with drinks and music. read more

I am a BIG FAN of their Birria tacos. I was first introduced to them at their Bay Ridge location and had to check out the Staten Island one. I am personally biased to the Bay Ridge location because it's more lively, just how I like it, and it makes me enjoy their food much more. Came here on a Saturday night around 7pm and was seated right away! It was pretty busy but they have a lot a tables and room available. It was an amazing atmosphere. Everyone dining in was super friendly as well as the staff at Ho' Brah! Definitely a great first date spot. I sat at the bar and was automatically greeted with a smile by Daniela! Such a sweetheart, she made sure we had a menu on hand and took our order quickly. Jenny brought us chips and guac for starters. She was very attentive and helpful. It's extremely helpful when your waitress knows the menu by heart!! Thank you for making our experience here outstanding! The guac was super fresh! I was so amazed, I never had such a big portion of guac and it was tasty on top of that! The margaritas are amazing and powerful! We always order takeout from Ho'Brah, but never eat in. Well we decided to eat in this time and we weren't disappointed. We were greeted upon entrance and despite it being Saturday and very busy, were able to be seated at a table. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drink menus. We ordered a Corona, ginger ale and a jalapeño and cucumber margarita. Our drinks arrived in minutes and we placed orders for food. We started with chips and guac, chicken empanadas and baja street corn. Everything was sharable and tasty. We ordered various tacos for our main course and each was better than the rest. One of our party is pescatarian, so she was happy to see many vegetarian and seafood options on the menu. Our favorites were the Korean BBQ Taco, the Southern BBQ pulled pork Taco and the Cabo fish taco. The food was delicious and filling. A good experience whether eating in or ordering out. I should have known Ho Brah was going to be average. I went to the one in Brooklyn and it didn't wow me. Its like Surf Taco from the Jersey Shore but with a liquor license. The guacamole was average but the first thing the waiter asked us was if we want guacamole and salsa. Caught us off guard so we ordered it. The chips were good with just the right amount of salt. I ordered some tacos as well and I would skip the veggie taco. The crispy fish taco was solid but needed a kick of hot sauce. I found the steak in the korean bbq taco dry. I do like that you can order individual tacos so you can try different ones. Some places just make you pick one style. Had Ho'brah cater my outdoor baby shower for about 40 adults. They arrived on time and set up their tent and station so quickly. Their staff was so friendly and truly genuinely cared to make the party a hit. Obviously the tacos & gauc were amazing and enough food to feed another 15 ppl. Everyone raved about their food and the party. Tommy was so easy to talk to and easily reached, since we had a temporary power outage that morning. Luckily, we were able to catch a table right before it started to get extremely busy at 7:15 . We started off with chips with salsa and guacamole. The chips were not thin and they were super crunchy (Kind of makes me wish they sold them in bags because I would stock up real fast). I have been wanting to try birria tacos so I had high expectations when I saw that it was on the menu. I really enjoyed it and it was super cheesy and had a good amount of meat in them. The dipping sauce however did not have any taste. I actually preferred putting the salsa from the chips/guacamole appetizer into my tacos. My friends thought that the chicken empanadas were bland and the shrimp empanadas were extrmely watery. Everything was quick and the staff made sure to clear our table. The food was ok. I'm always nervous about trying places that have a different 'take' on some pretty basic food. Don't get me wrong, I applaud those willing to step outside the box and offer up new twists on traditional dishes. I had the Bobbo burrito, and to be perfectly honest......I seen more moisture in a bag of cement. There was enough raw cabbage in the burrito to choke a rabbit. I fought my way through to the end hoping all of the actual ingredients just settled at the bottom of the wrap as burritos do. Wrong. Just more raw cabbage. My wife had the Thunderbird, and Classic Cali fish tacos. The Thunderbird was actually pretty good. The fish was kinda slimy, and the panko was soft and greasy. I can't be 100% negative. The bar and wait staff were great! Attentive, polite, they hustled as a group the entire time we were there. We tipped generously, and TBH, we're just glad our restaurants and staff are coming back. I loved the food here. I went indoor dining here twice since it's been opened and the food is delicious. My only complaint is some of the wait staff. My husband and I ate here a few weeks ago and we came maybe an hour or two before closing. I even called ahead to make sure the kitchen was still open and they said yes (I hate inconveniencing restaurants close to closing time) so I wanted to double check and make sure it was ok that we came to eat inside. We came there and we were 1 of 3 tables. Right off the bat our waitress (I don't remember her name) seemed uninterested and unenthusiastic. We ordered multiple apps, margs, and an entree each. Other staff were bringing our food to us and they were very friendly. But one thing I didn't like was that our waitress actually sat down at the booth next to us with 3 guys and was talking and laughing. Completely ignoring me and my husband, and at that point we were literally her only table. She was sitting in the booth with her back to us. We tried to get her attention a few times and twice another gentleman who was cleaning and sweeping had to help us because the waitress was too busy giggling with the guys. I think her name was Jess, it seems to ring a bell. I honestly think it was very rude. My husband and I are very polite and easy customers and we don't ask for much. She came over maybe twice the entire time we were there and asked if we needed anything and we ordered more margs which she gave us, and we asked for more chips & salsa. She never came back with the chips and salsa. Another young man who must've been in high school age asked us if we needed anything and we again asked for chips and he never gave them to us, so we eventually gave up on that. It sucks because the food is absolutely delicious and it's evident that some of the wait staff actually do care (multiple men there were working their asses off cleaning and being attentive to us when our waitress wasn't). The one man actually had to remind the waitress to print out the check again after we asked for it because she just kept going and sitting down with the other table. It was rude. The other staff members actually seemed upset with her as well. We paid and still gave her a good tip (at least 20%) because at the end of the day I know the staff split the tips and the guys working their asses off shouldn't suffer for slackers. As we were walking out she went back to her table of friends and didn't even say "have a good night". I'll order to go from here but I won't come back, the service was bad, especially considering we were the ONLY table in the whole place, no excuse read more

I wanted to so like this place. I went on an earl Saturday afternoon. No crowds, tables were not filled. We were greeted and seated immediately. Server came order asked if we would like chips and salsa ( guacamole is an extra fee). Chips came VERY VERY dark and borderlined burnt. Next was our appetizer, nachos with all the fixings ( or lack of). Once again, borderline burnt chips with very scarce toppings on top. Next was our entrees, not impressed at all. I make better Mexican with Old El Paso seasoning. asked for extra jalapeños, the waitress gave them to me AFTER the table was cleared off from our meal ( totally not going to be eaten).
