This place is pure nostalgia for me. I've been coming here since I was a kid, and even though it's gone through three different owners, the current owners are doing an amazing job keeping it going strong. The menu is very versatile with so many great options. One thing I really enjoy is being able to watch the cooks prepare the food it adds to the experience. In some cultures, people prefer to see their food being made, and it's honestly nice to sit and watch your meal come together. The gravy here is truly something special. There are times I crave just their gravy and rice it's that good. Their Chinese food is also very flavorful and authentic, and they'll make it just how you like it. The staff has always been great. I've been coming here for years, and they've really built relationships with their customers. When my parents passed, they even extended their condolences, which meant a lot. They've seen generations of people come through, and you can tell they genuinely care. It's the kind of place where the love between the staff and the customers goes both ways. read more

Somehow my experience here was exactly what I expected from the pictures. Cozy, friendly, and welcoming. The food was nuts - so good. We came here on a winter weekend morning and the place was packed when we got in. It's not surprising given the very discounted prices that you don't normally see, unless you were back in the early 2000s/2010s. But for the price that you pay, you can get a lot of food here. We ordered veggie fried rice, French toast plate, and an egg plate for about $30 (including tip). Our friend got the hot link plate and thought it was fine. The food is pretty good, though the veggie fried rice was a little bit bland. But everything else was good diner quality. The French toast is a little bit on the eggier side but it's still solid. Everything is very very cheap compared to todays regular diners. Because of the reasonable prices, this place has a consistent stream of people especially on the weekends. If you want to experience a place where folks gather to share good food and everybody knows everybody else, this is the place. A friend and I were in Fresno attending an event and Ho Ho came up as one of the dining options. It's a 20-minute walk from the downtown area, but I'd recommend driving if you can. It's in a part of town that is in need of TLC but as soon as we walked in we knew we were in a place that was a local favorite. We were greeted warmly and our food was served quickly. It's not fancy but as soon as my food came, I felt transported to afternoons spent at a friend's house after school where her Chinese grandma always fed us with something she threw together out of whatever was in the fridge...and it was always delicious. My veg chow mein was amazing! The dining room is tiny and crowded, and the decor reflects the prior businesses that occupied the area before the restaurant was added on. I'm so glad I came here and patronized a local business and would absolutely come again if my travels bring me back through Fresno. read more

That would have been me except that my good friends invited me there for brunch. It's definitely a throwback to a bygone era and, it turns out, that's a good thing. For example, the staff knows and cares about the patrons. Many are regulars on a first name basis and engage in short, lively conversations. It's a melting pot of people. Secondly, servings are hearty, delicious, and inexpensive. The menu offers the typical American breakfasts-eggs, hash browns, toast and pancakes or Asian fare , such as chow mein with chicken, pork, beef or shrimp or egg rolls. Thanks to TikTok for showing me this place. I use to cook like a restaurant like this. A mom and pops. There's pros and cons with that but I won't get into that. I had bacon and eggs gave me fresh bacon not pre cooked.Their pancakes were better than Denny's and I love theirs. My wife had their combination chow mein it's a little in the salty side but very hot and fresh . I am not gonna lie, we chose this place just because of the ho ho in the name. We have a Chinese friend named Hahaha and when we say this spot on our phone we quickly thought of our friend. An odd combination of cuisine, what with the breakfast and chinese food, I opted for pancakes, bacon, and some of the best hashbrowns I have had in a long time. The bacon was very good as were the pancakes. Lady had the combination chowmein. She said it was OK, and added that the chicken and beef was a bit dry. She also said that it was around 50% cabbage. A cheap way to cover a plate for sure. The area where this place is located is a bit sketchy, but it is only a breakfast lunch place, no one is here much past 2:00PM. I am not sure if we will come back as we do not live in this town, but we did enjoy our stay at the little hole in the wall with the cool (to us) name. read more

Went there today for breakfast had high hopes that the food was still going to be good like the last time I went (1yr ago) and was disappointed. First served orange juice was good juice then came my pancake not as well made like usual but still ate it. Then came my pork steak plate. Looked good took a bite then a bite of hash brown that was underneath the steak then went in for second bite when I noticed pink all in it flipped steak around and opened it up to find it still bloody leaking all on my plate of food. SMH couldn't believe it. Then I told the young owner I assume what was wrong then he said I can give you plate for free and do you want us to cook it a little more. I was like bro it's still bloody and it's pork and got all over the other food. He then said ok I was like I'll just pay for the pancake and juice to be courteous and he actually still charged me $6 smh couldn't believe it. Then he just says they thought it was a beef steak. Like it shouldn't matter beef or pork should be fully cooked unless told otherwise. Place has gone downhill since the last time I was there. I was skeptical at first, but i came out really glad I got to experience this unique experience! We tried the the combination chow mein which was very flavorful and definitely worth the $11. The French toast, bacon, eggs, and hash browns were also very good. I felt like it needed a little more seasoning but it was still good. -Chicken Chow Mein was with Chicken and it had some veggies mixed. The noodles are orange and not yellow. Fried chicken, chowmein combination and hot link chop chop. Fried chicken was spot on. The outer layer was crunchy, good seasoning, chicken breast was still juicy. Over easy eggs was cooked perfectly. Yolk was still running. I'll get the rice without gravy next time. Personal preference. 4/5 This is what I want after a night of drinking. Chowmein combination. It hits a lot of the notes. Crunch from cabbage, a little greasy, not too salty, shrimp, chicken, beef. 3.5/5 I ordered the hot link chop chop but I think my order might have gotten mixed in the kitchen. I hate to put these mediocre reviews but I just can't convince myself to give it a 4th star. Maybe it's my own fault thinking a Chinese place known for its American breakfast would be the wrong place to go for Chinese food? Upon arrival we were already wondering did we have the right place? Talk about a sketchy area.... but sure enough it was the right place. We were driving back to LA from Sacramento and didn't want to deviate too far from the route so we decided to try this place due to the star rating. We entered and immediately felt a little frightened for our lives, there were no other Asians inside despite this area being called old Chinatown. Instead there were several intimidating and mildly suspicious looking individuals. Many looked like they just got out of jail for something. Anyhow we sat down and ordered a few items from the Chinese food section of the menu. Here's my review on those items: Shrimp fried rice - 6/10, nice big fresh shrimp on a bed of whatever fried rice Shrimp Yakisoba - 5/10, noodle was oddly thin for Yakisoba and it was about 40% noodle and 60% cabbage, shrimp was big and fresh like the fried rice. Combo chow mein - 5/10, same good shrimp but the rest of the meats were grilled to the point of almost inedible. Also more cabbage than noodle. We asked for extra utensils and they looked rinsed more than cleaned. I want to believe my review would have been much higher had we ordered the breakfast items but unfortunately we wanted lunch. I doubt we will be back due to how sketchy the place is and just the feeling that we may get stabbed, mugged or carjacked at any moment. Whatever the owners are doing seems to be working for them and it's customers so more power to them but I think next time I'll just drive an extra 15 mins to a safer feeling place. read more

So let me tell you what I ordered for my satisfying breakfast I had today at Ho Ho Kafe located in DT (down town) Fresno CA on F St. Orange Juice 3/5 it's a min maid product not the store brand orange juice. Thai Tea 4/5 not too bad and the right amount of sweetness. Hash Browns 5/5 this is one of the best hash browns i've ever had and it's from a hole in the wall place not a franchise. Hot Links 4/5 good tasting hot links with some kick. Bacon 4/5 I preferred the bacon at Black Bear but this was good too. Steak 3/5 it was some cheap steak from the supermarket it wasn't too bad or too good just ok and hugh. 5/5 Laos Omelets it has some veggies and jalapeño with some kick to it and it was good and flavorful. Condiments 4/5 Impressive uncle James is using Min Maid products and now he has A-1 steak sauce. Last time I was there he used only supermarket knock offs. Service 4/5 I got my food hot and yummy and it didn't take too long when I came in. Location 3/5 There's a lot of homeless and c-heads (any way you wanna say it) in the area but I've seen worst. I'd really enjoyed my breakfast at Ho Ho Kafe today and it was so good I finished everything. I'm not a breakfast kinda guy but here it was so satisfying and I enjoyed every last bite. I'm not too sure how much my actual breakfast cost but it was worth every penny, auntie didn't have to give me that discount. Also BTW you want to wake up early because it tends to get really busy with limited seats and they're closed at 2:00PM.
