They did have some great Hawaiian bbq here. The only item that let me down was the short ribs or kalbi, as even in a combo, they only had two bones instead of the traditional whole cut of three bones. But the bbq chicken and bbq beef were right on the money. I did have a problem paying $24 for one combo and one drink, as even with these three items, I was still expecting the meal to not be more than $20 total. That will be the main reason I probably won't return. The service was good. It was quick and friendly. And the ambiance was alright too as everything was clean, efficient, and not distracting. I just agree with the statement earlier that there are better rice bowl, hawaiian, and/or teriyaki food joints in the area at either a much better quality or better pricing. This seems to find that line where what you get, though good, is a bit over-priced for what you get and there is no recourse to get something smaller because then you will be over-paying and still hungry. My mom got the HoAloha Chicken Mix, that came with Chicken Katsu & BBQ Chicken. She got hers with rice and a salad. She really liked the salad dressing. Just tried HoAloha and had a pretty solid experience overall. I went with the BBQ mix plate, my usual when it comes to Hawaiian BBQ, which hit the spot but could've used more seasoning. The meats were tender and cooked well, but tasted a bit plain on their own. Thankfully they have a good sauce selection, so I loaded up on three different ones: teriyaki, katsu, and their spicy sauce. The teriyaki was sweet and savory like you'd expect, and the spicy sauce actually had some heat to it without being overwhelming. The katsu sauce was tangy and helped bring out more flavor in the BBQ. Their macaroni salad isn't what I'm used to. This version felt more like a regular pasta salad you'd find at a deli since the macaroni was firm and the dressing was more mild instead of that thick, mayo-heavy coating I'm used to. When you're eating smoky BBQ and salty musubi, you want that macaroni salad to be the soft, cooling contrast that cleanses your palate between bites. Since getting the mac salad right is pretty important to the whole Hawaiian plate experience for me, I'm taking off a star for this. My sister ordered the spicy mayo shrimp musubi and it was packed with flavor. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and juicy, and that spicy mayo had the right amount of kick, definitely made me a little jealous of her choice. The rice held together well and you could tell it was seasoned properly. We both got Thai tea to wash it down and I was impressed because it tasted authentic with that distinctive creamy texture, yet wasn't overly sweet like some places make it, which I actually prefer. You could taste the actual tea flavor coming through the condensed milk. The portions were decent since I finished my whole order, though I usually have leftovers at other Hawaiian spots, so they might run a bit smaller here. The prices seemed fair for what you get though. Service was friendly and our food came out pretty quickly considering everything is cooked to order, which I appreciated. If you're in the mood for Hawaiian comfort food, definitely give this place a try. Just make sure to order their various musubis, that's where they really shine. This was my second time at this restaurant. Parking is fairly easy and the staff was nice. The decor was also nice inside. However, it took almost 20 minutes to get my food. Chicken Katsu plate was good as well, but not what I ordered unfortunately. You can choose your side and I went with the Mac Salad. No flavor, very bland, and too many carrots. I did order a couple sides (loco moko gravy & fire island sauce) which did make it better. As for the portion sizes, it was a bit on the smaller side, I was hoping for a little more especially for the price. It is on the pricier side. Overall I give it a 7/10 read more

Saw that there was a soft opening a few weeks ago and decided to give this place a try. If you're into the Hawaiian style genre of food, then this is your spot. I am not a huge fan of this type food, but this shop is akin to Ono's Hawaiian BBQ chain, but better. I gave the chicken katsu plate and the grilled spam masubi a try, and I was pleasantly satisfied. The katsu comes with rice and your choice of macroni or green salad and overall, they give a good ratio of meat, rice, and salad and at a pretty good overall sized portion to fill anyone. I wasn't expecting to have such a large plate which is why I ordered the spam masubi. The chicken katus alone was grilled to perfection and as mentioned, it's a decent sized portion. It could use a bit more seasoning on it. I am not a fan of "katsu sauce" or teriyaki sauce, but they are available, and as expected, sweet sauces. I was surprised there was no soy sauce. I might be weird, but I usually eat chicken katsu at places like this with a dab of soy sauce over the sweet sauce. While spam masubi is simple at its core, rice, spam, and with some form of sweet sauce add, all wrapped in seaweed, I do feel like it was missing a tad bit in savoriness (aka saltiness flavor) compared to what I've tried before at other places. BUT, I will say it was still good nonetheless. Their spam masubi is a good size, they use your typical, averaged sized spam and give a decent chunk of rice, more than most spots. While the size is good, the pictures on the menu and on here at Yelp are a bit deceiving. It says 4 piece, but in actuality, they are two "longer/larger" amounts of masubi that are cut in half and given/sold as 4 pieces. Because of the size of them, I think it's totally fine and the price is on par with most places. And when I say most places, masubi is a unique appetizer here in SoCal so it's always upped in price just like how gyoza is overly priced. The place gives more like cafe-like vibes, is clean, and quiet with no complaints. Prices are adequate for the amount you are given and the quality. Definitely a good place to pick up family shared meals and whatnot. I was in and out pretty quick on a weekday afternoon, maybe because this place is still new. I will definitely be coming back to try their loco moco and giving some of their other masubi a try. I'd definitely rate this a solid 3.5 to 4 stars, but the closest I could give is 4 so will keep it at that. read more

Craving Hawaiian BBQ, and missing Honolulu. This place satisfied all my longings from the huge menu, to the amazingly friendly staff and atmosphere. I looked this place up on yelp as I do with most my ventures and decided to give it a try. Being a local in Chino I knew this place was fairly new and decided to try it out (so glad I did). Walking in: the clean design wall to wall, and very welcoming Hawaiian decor made it easy to feel at home. The employee at the register was very welcoming and gave great suggestions. I don't want a full plate so I decided to get a bbq chicken bowl and side of macaroni salad and of course the star of the show my favorite mystery meat SPAM masubi! The entire meal was very delicious and not at all over powering. The mac salad was simple and tasty. The lady who took my order was sweet and friendly, the building was clean and spacious, and the kitchen was clearly preparing every order, to-order.
