I've always treated this place as a quick in and out for spam musubi (when I've needed a fast meal) and I never took the time to actually see what else was on this places menu... hence this review of a bbq beef and katsu combo. Venturing out, by looks alone you can see they pack it up pretty well. Few scoops of rice, your Mac salad, and self serve sauce (if you're a sauce lover it's perfect). There are those times where you see a picture and you just know the food was good, this was absolutely one of those times. The meats were warm and tender, no rubbery texture or hard to pull. The sauce put the cherry on top, and for the price I was blown away. It has since been added as part of my regular going out list, and I'm mad I didn't try anything else sooner. The lady at the counter is so sweet and she works extremely hard, there's decent amount of seating inside but tables in the courtyard if it's a nice day out. Food was mid, service was the worst! Cashier was RUDE AF!! Ordered off Uber Eats to pick up. Came a few mins early from the stated pick up time. Showed her the order on the app, just say "nope no order". Just kept repeating that instead of looking at what the order was. I step out to get it fixed with Uber Eats. Order is done and confirmed in the app. I go back in show her the number and detail order. I tell her the name on it, she has it in her hands.. There wouldn't be a mix up because my name is pretty uncommon as it is. She's still insistent of going back a screen to show my name in the app. Then I put my hand out so to take the food, she places it off to the side of the counter instead of handing it to me. I'm not here to knock on the food. It's actually quite good. The short ribs and the Mac salad are so good. The problem comes if you order online at the website. The Family meal clearly states 3 meats, macaroni salad and 10 malasadas. When I got there, they said that I don't get the malasadas. I showed her the menu, but she said with confidence that the malasadas are not included. She said she'll ask the Owner later. There's a section online that asks "How can we make this right?" I told them and gave it several days, but no response. Bottom line right now. Don't order the Family meal online. Call the restaurant directly. I had a really disappointing experience with Young Hawaiian Barbecue in Chino. I ordered delivery and spent over $31+, but when I asked for six cups of katsu sauce, they said I could only get three. In the past, even at the store, they have the sauce available on the counter wide open, but this time, it felt really stingy. It's frustrating because I couldn't fully enjoy my meal. Instead of prioritizing customer satisfaction, it felt like they were saving a few cents. I might give ono hawaiian a try since they are also on uber. Same price and same tip for the driver. It's a small little place with five or so tables for sit down eating. Nothing fancy, everything is about the food. The owner is really friendly and greeted us when we came in. Placed our order and waited. The owner brought us this tasty sugar coated what essentially is a doughnut ball for us to snack on while we waited for our order. That was unexpected and really welcomed by my two "always hungry teenagers". My son ordered the two item combo and i feel that is really a great deal for about $14 you get to choose two proteins. He ordered katsu and hamburger patties (you get 2). My daughter and I ordered the short ribs. Loved every bite of it. Definitely recommend a visit. read more

A scan of the menu offered many choices & drinks. I ordered a combo plate with Short ribs & chicken. You get 2 scoops of rice & macaroni salad. First off, portion sides were huge. Perfect for those looking for a protein boost. The meat was tender, moist & very flavorful. What I like the most is that the meat is not dripping with sauce because they don't pour anything on it. You need to put the sauce on your own. They have a dispenser with warmed sauces, bbq, teriyaki & katsu. Don't forget to grab some if you're eating to go. Sticky rice was perfect & macaroni salad classically made. Add a bit of shoyu & you are set. Only one gal working the counter, she seemed somewhat distracted but she took my order correctly. One cook on the grill. The food was delicious & satisfying. I can see where some might be put off by the service. I will definitely be back to try more of the menu especially the Lau lau. read more

I ordered right away and got the 2 item combo, which comes with 2 meats, 2 scoops rice, and 1 scoop mac salad. I usually don't like the mac salad, so I did all rice. I waited about 5-10min, and my order was ready. They had a sauce station with 3 different kids of sauces, katsu, teriyaki, and BBQ. I got one teriyaki and one bbq to try. I opened the box, and it looked pretty promising. However, I took a bite, and I was a bit disappointed. The beef and short ribs lacked flavor. It didn't taste like much, but I was very glad I got sauce to flavor it with. The teriyaki didn't add too much flavor, but the bbq sauce added a pretty good amount. It still could have used salt. I usually expect it to be sweet and savory but it just didn't have that taste. Large portion, just not a lot of flavor. Overall it was okay. read more

I am a weak man who is easily swayed by public opinion, and it almost scares me to see so many bad reviews at a place I adore. But I must persevere and sing the praises of this store that has satiated my previously thought insatiable bbq itch. Don't get me wrong, this place isn't some fancy high class location. What it does have is a seriously impressive protein to dollar ratio, with some delicious mac sides. I eat a lot and I dislike having too much carbs, this place has enough that I can get full on bbq alone. Crazy good value and tastes delicious. The worker was nice and even told me I overpaid since I used DoorDash, which makes the value even better here. The ambiance unfortunately isn't great, it's more of an order and go home to eat kind of deal, there are bugs flying around, it looks a little like a fast food joint. But I forget about all that when I open my little white styrofoam container of food and feast my eyes on the bbq that's piled high inside.
